Indian wedding Services in Singapore

Thanks all for your comments on my banquet outfit dilemma!!

Oooh Jini, if you're reading this, congrats to you!!! Hope your big day is chockful of great memories for you and your husband.

Kismet - Thanks for your email. Btw, what's CA applications? I've just put in my PR applications and have gone for a med check and police character assessment. Waiting to hear from the police. Takes 2 weeks.

Piggy - what's your budget for photographers? And who have you tried? Is it important for you to have someone who has shot for a temple wedding before? Are you looking at Indian PGs specifically? As for non-indian MUAs, it depends. Are you getting him/her for the temple wedding? If so, you might want to check if they can provide the 'temple' jewellery. Usually Indian MUAs provide them. Apart from that, I don't see a problem using a non-Indian MUA if he/she has experience with our skin tones.

Btw, here's a 'duh' question for those who are having temple weddings. Erm... what if it's the time of the month for the bride??? Still OK??? Temple ceremony takes place as planned right??? Or do we have to take one of those pills to delay it?

piggy - what's your budget? Most photogrpahers do fall within the price range you mentioned. If you are looking to hire a non-indian photographer, it will easily cost around $1000+ (minimum) for 2 days of photography. You can check with the various photographers listed here. If you are looking for a particular style, view their online portfolios then contact them. Most of them do have rates listed on the website.

Hi rany & SK, Thank you so much for your suggestions.

Rany temple jewellery.... actually i'm getting married in a sikh temple...so will be using my own jewellery. The only issue i have with the non-indian MUA is putting the scarf on my head...wondering how they'll manage it. I will try indian MUA as well then decide.

Ok my budget for photography is $1000 nett for two days and tis photographer should have a more outdoor/journalistic/portrait like style. I am not doing a photoshoot with any studios therefore wanna still have very goos photos taken wic we can later frame up or make our own coffee table album. I'm actually very keen on making my own album (simple of course) cos it'll be more memorable...my own hardwork. Haha dunno if i'll even find the time.

I will have another photographer taking the standard 100s of shots. Hopefully my bf has made the arrangements!!!

Anyway SK will look thru the site. Thx.

hi ladies,

piggy - Getting a photographer with journalistic style to cover a Sikh wedding and a reception the next day for $1000 nett is gonna be a tough one...I'm paying more than $1000 each ( m having 2 photographers )...You might just have to up your budget. Check with Jayce Goh of Jayce Photography. But he may also cost around $1200, depending on the number of hours you need him for.

I'm Sikh and will be having a Sikh wedding too. Did/doing my shopping in Delhi too. It will be great to exchange notes on your wedding preps. Is your FH Sikh too?

Hi Rany,
Actually, when the wedding date is being chosen, the bride's "time of the month" will be taken into consideration...but then again, we can never be sure that ours will be the same for the months to come. I was worried that i am going to have mine during my wedding but thankfully my date has changed since deciding on the date. But its best to consult the priest as some are very practical and would say that these things are part and parcel of being a woman. This happened to my cousin sis as well...she was kindda stressed and unexpectedly had hers. So the priest advised her to bath in water mixed with turmeric powder on the morning of the wedding to cleanse her body and he even arranged special prayers for her during the wedding. This is done so that she doesnt offend the gods. He even asked the couple to postpone their wedding nite plans....hehehe...Don go on any Pills gal cos they really mess up your system. BTw, best to consult your mum too...they must have heard of such experiences.

hey Rany, asked my FH the same thing, like Kayla said, he said there's some prayer that the priest will do to cleanse..

Sphire - finally met William Saravenan today. Spent close to 2hrs at his place. Thk we'll be going with him for the temple ceremony. His wife also does make-up, so i mite do a trial with her and see...

hey gals, weekend almost almost here..going for my BS trial make-up tomorrow to see if i want to engage them or someone else for my church ceremony and dinner..Getting stressed as the days go by..got my Photoshoot on March 2nd, so need to start shedding some kilos..hehe..SK/Rany, when are u gals doing yours? think our weddings are around the same time..

Hi Ladies. Long long time since stepped here.

Rany - Not sure abt tht ladies thingy. I'm worried of mine. Cos till now mine always jumps.. no fix predicition.

Chick - How did u find William Saravenan's work? Looks like u gonna be busy..kekeke.

hi ladies...

Chick - My photoshoot is on 21st March. Going for gown selection on 10 March. Have you selected your gowns? Where do you intend to go for outdoor photoshoot?

Thanks girls for your inputs on my concern. I remember a gf once took some pills to delay it. But I do agree with Kayla, best not to mess with our system. Guess if it so comes at the time, I'll leave it to the priest to do his magic.

Piggy - When you say you need a PG for 2 days, do you mean 2 WHOLE days or just a few hours each day? Some PGs charge by the hour so when you ask them to quote, let them know how many hours each day. You might get cheaper quotes. I do agree with SK though, I think you have to up your budget a little if you're looking for a journalistic PG.

There is this guy who is a freelance PG: http://www.chrisppics.com/4Frameset_Wedding.htm

See if you like his style and quality. Click on any pic in the main frame. You'll see more of his recent works. I think he charges w/i your budget.

Sphire - Hey, long time no see! ;)

Chick - My shoot is scheduled for late May. That's when my hubs will be here next - for the wedding. Because the shoot is close to the wedding day, our photographer won't have time to make a portrait shot or table top shot. So we've decided to do w/o it and hv asked him to incl photos fr the wedding day of us in our wedding garb in that collage album.

I reckon I'll be going for a fitting in mid or late April. I pretty much have a gown in mind (fr my last visit) but I just need to see if there's anything new that might look better on me.

Have you picked out your gown yet, Chick? What's it like?

SK - I have a long list of locations. Hee! Typical! Cannot decide!! But the Botanic Gardens is a definite. And the City Hall (I just love the grand columns!) Others on my list are Sentosa and the Spottiswoode Park/Tanjong Pagar shophouses. What abt you?

hey gals

How are all of u? been a while since i logged in. just wanted to ask u gals if anyone knows the official decorator of tank road temple? heard his name is Kuna. How are his decorations?

Looks like the topic is now on PS. Mi will be doin my PS in mid or late June. Goin got my first fitting for WG last date of March.

SK - We only select gowns so late for PS? Wht if the gowns do not suit mi? Like tht wont hv time to make or buy outfits.

Rany - Yup... its a long time...kekkeke. Mi thot of China square. Thinkin of Botanic gardens too. Someone told mi go for little india..sounds kewl but u'll get million wondering pairs of eyes.

A question. My AD is in June 08. When do I hv to book the temple hall? Called Tank Road Temple. Some priest said Apr, some say after aug, some say after thaipusam. So when do I book? Heard that got to book before 1yr as Tank road is an hot cake.

Rany - Was thinking of the shophouses along Tanjong Pagar, Sentosa and near Fullerton Hotel/Esplanade...

Sphire - I dont know if its the same for all BS but for French Bridal, gown selection is 2 weeks before photoshoot. They should have many gowns to choose from so i'm sure you'll find something you like. You could check with your BS if they could let you try and select gowns earlier.

SK / Rany - kewl..Me was thinking of Fullerton/Esplanade, Botanic Gdns and also Changi POint...took half day and went to recce today...got kelong and the usual sea/beach etc..Btw, got a list from someone on the net...Just posting it here for reference...some are a bit wacky lah..

Rany/SK, me selected gowns but seriously cant remember what it looks like now cos we did it in december..think the WG is bustier with scrunched up fabric, i'll be doing fitting on 28th feb, will try to take pic..to be honest, its not 100% to my liking, but m jus gonna make do with it..

Rany-whats the one you eyeing? Was it the mini-mini one :-)?

SK - you have your design in mind already?

Sphire - think William's works are oklah, nothing extraordinary, just that since FH insists on Indian PG, will go for it. While Naseer was nice, think i prefered William's pics, at least they were complete pics..with the heads and face all in one pic!

Anyway gals just to update on my trial with the BS MUA, its pretty bad - my face ended up looking puffy and eyes smaller. M gonna have a trial with Shanthi and William's wife..Hope something clicks, getting bit worried especially since i'm one of those people who look better with less makeup. Are u gals using the MUA from the BS for your PS?

Hey Rany, u got your ROM pics already? Me KPO, want to see the makeup from the MAC gal. My fren also had her wedding makeup done by someone from MAC and highly recommends it :-))

Hi ladies,

SK, Rany, Sphire..thx for the PG contacts. Will check them out. My actual is gonna be lenghty from 8am to probably 6pm. The next day is reception therefore another 5-6hrs. So far rates hv been abv $1000 and guess like wat u gals said i'll hv to up my budget. Actually not willing to spend so much. Have frens who have volunteered to take candid shots and i'm a very candid photos kind of a gal....i love snapping the camera every 10 seconds. Anyway will keep u posted on any developments.

Hi Lisa,
Kuna is also the official decorator of Sri Mariamman temple...Think he has the decorating contract for most of the hindu temples in singapore.nothing so special abt his decor dear, just the typical indian wedding decorative items. I met him before my hubby left in dec and he quoted us 2k for very simple decor. Its shocking as not much of decorations can be done in that temple due to restrictions. His cousin, Mr Don does more with lesser charges. Tell me if u want his number dear.

Hi Sphire,
Have u fixed your wedding date dear? Actually, if your wedding is in June 08, then u have to check the Panchangam that will come out in April 08 but wouldnt that be too late? If u have decided on the date, then its better to book asap cos like u said Tank Rd temple is A very hot favourite!

Hi Chick,
U are lucky to have a trial for your BS dear...i didnt know how my MU is going to turn out until the day of my Photoshoot!

As for me ladies, i have been going from house to house giving out my invitations to important family members...quite tiring and i feel as if time is flying by so quickly. My hubby is also busy giving out our invitations to his family members. My MIL just flew to Egypt yest...that made my mum very angry and jealous at the same time! she complained that here we are pulling our hair over the wedding preps and my MIL is happily going on a holiday...hahaha...
Met with Paneer to see my Indian PS pictures...he showed me the layout of the album in his laptop and i was very happy to see that it all turned out well. Hopefully, i can collect the my stuff at the end of this month.

Hi all...

I will be getting ROM this year...Wanna check with you all what are the things that I need to prepare for the function?Venue, food,??? cos I am not sure and is there any1 who can be recommended? And who can i look for the deco ah?

pls email me at [email protected]
thanks lot...

Hi everyone,

Again.. I went MIA for 2 weeks... I’m so exhausted…was running around making the preparation and organising my company product launch...

Here’s my updates:
- MUA: went for 3 MU trials in total.. 1st one was with Haazel's Beauty Lab... Nice place...MUA was my MIL's friend called Usha..she does very good Mehendi, according from MIL, she recommends her to all her friends’ daughters and i have seen some recent pix from weddings MIL has attended.. not bad..MIL has arranged to engage her.. she charging market rate for that… BUT MU wise... cannot make it lah.. i took some pix and i looked like going for a wayang show lah... i guess mayb because i'm very fair and you know chinese features are not so outstanding so she don't know how to do it well.. Hairdo is not so bad..

2nd MU trial was with LOOKS. Not so good as well.. the MU looked very white/fair on me... But the eye MU is very good cos she used at least 3-4 colors to enhance... blush not enuf and not very good at blending it.. i took 1 pic which i looked extremely white and then when she added more... i looked too red... Hairdo wise.. as i haf a round face, if I backcomb everything not so nice.. I also agree too.. she tried to make a more modernised style... but MIL want her to add height to my hair but when she added the nethi sutti, it flattens in front.. tried very hard to fix... not easy.. MIL finds she's not very good with the hairdo.. again, i think the problem lies with me. i haf a face too round lah.

Last one is with my MIL's friend again (she has so many beautician friends - Menaka, Sussie, Vanassa are all her long-time kakis...) Her name is Kavithaa.. She has a small shop at Dunlop Street called Kasanth Impressions... She did well with the makeup.. and very open to comments…even helped me to try and error to make adjustments .. the interesting thing is that i don't even have my sari with me and i looked quite good with the MU with just tee-shirts and jeans. The other 2 places when I did my MU…i brought a sari to change to see if i looked ok in indian costume... So it’s a surprise that this round everything turns out good. MIL very pleased.. I took Kavithaa for bangle and AD ceremony. everything under $5xx (special price cos MIL's friend).. I did not want to use the temple set but she does not have the other jewellery set.. she’s willingly to go shop with me for it...

- PG and VG: Settled. Engaged Naseer for AD and Bangle ceremony...He showed me a couple of good works. He actually operates from home, has backdrop equipments and stuff. Has 17 years of exp. in this line.. so he know how to capture good angles and do the right touchup to ensure photo quality is good. I took up the AD (customary + dinner event)+ bangle ceremony PG and VG from him. Extremely patient guy (based on my meeting with him). I don't like PG or VG always want to rush you for this or that. It's my BIG day so i'm the BOSS here. i should be the one telling him when i should take my time…Mine is about $1800 in total and gave me more discounts since i'm taking the 2-day event.

Decorator: recommended by Naseer.. this decorator named Rajoo. Met him on Friday afternoon...He's been in this line for 12-15 years. Apparently he supplies his services to many bridal shop. knows alot of people in this industry, he can help to do wedding planning as well.. He even recommended me to take my studio pix in JB, Skudai which he said that alot of S'pore Indian couples had gone there for photoshots. Very affordable. Under SGD1500 with 8 outfits changes... nice indian costumes.. indoor and outdoor shoots..He's also getting married in 24 Mar. Unfortunately i had placed my deposit with LOOKS.. so now i'm getting a little upset cos mine package is not as comprehensive and i'm paying about the same.. Btw, it's such a small world AGAIN... he was my FH primary school friend. Both of them looked stunned when they saw each other... showed us some examples on the magazines that has nice decoration for the functions.. Claimed that he does not replicate the same layout for every wedding.. he customized to the mood that the customers want to create as well as according to the crowd.. he only does 1 set up per day so he can gives more attention to the customer which is true…still checking out 1 more guy-Vanan to compare works and price..

As what I think, my FH family must have knew half the people in Little INDIA... ;-p

- Jewellery: only bought a necklace chain from Tekka cos MIL wanted to have the locket separately... she said if i buy a fixed set... i cannot interchange the locket.. which is true.. she wanted me to have something i can wear on normal function.. the one she picked very Ex... i can see my FIL's very sad face... More to buy this weekend..

- Wedding Saree: went to style mart... saw 3 saree.. so beautiful.. the price is even more fantastic... $1300 each... i dropped my jaw... MIL wanted to get... but i told her to look around.. anyway.. i will only wear once.. i can use the same amt of money and get at least 4 other nice ones elsewhere.. If only we have time to go India…they have more selection and nice designs.. anyway..we shopped for 3 full days.. finally got ours at Hannifa... 500+ for wedding sari and one more for me to wear out of the house to the function hall.. tat one cost me $380.. :-(

Brought to the tailor to sew the blouse.. MIL said cannot have pattern at the back… must be square or round… so boring..

- My parents Baju: bought a simple one punjabi suite for Mum cos she has never worn one before... so she's not very comfortable with it.. i walked almost 4 hrs to find the right one for her. Dad was easy.. 15 mins job, but more ex suit than mum... i wonder why...

- FH and FIL suit: only the veshti and the Kurta… the veshti alone already cost him $180… guess it’s made of silk …FH was grumbling..just a piece of cloth and it cost more than a business shirt…

Part II of my updates...

- Studio pix: wanted to get Naseer to do it but I think he does not have enuf costumes. No time to go JB, skudai and take as well… so have to settle in s’pore.. finally took up LOOKS.. but due to my size… she only have certain sizes that suit me cos’ I’m on the plump side… took 2 lengha suits, 1 EG and 1 WG.. the other one more outfit I will have to bring my own.. but the colors of the outfits I chose are very boring colors… the red, white and blue..now starting to regret cos it think the photos may not turn out good…managed to negotiate 2 outdoor shoots in nearby locations FOC.. PS is coming Wednesday on Valentine’s Day.. great!

Wedding Favors: Was scouting around at Joo Chiat to see if I can try to keep my cost within $1 per item cos I need to buy at least 1000 piece of the tokens… only managed to find the flower candles @$1.10 each after disc… No time to go M’sia… so had to look around S’pore… went to other malay bridal shops and they quoted abt $1.40 for tea cups… Finally… I came up with the idea of giving some more oriental since I’m a Chinese bride marrying an Indian… so it will be interesting for the guest to receive something different instead of the norms like candles, incense, tea cups, ornaments and stuff.. Managed to get my own supplier to ship in from China the fortune cookie coin pouch which I can add some chocolates ingots/coins in the pouch… however the packaging design will need to ask my printer to help.. but at least it’s cheaper this way.. cost me in total abt $0.70-80 each.. save some cost there.

To be done:
Bangles Ceremony: MIL suggested me to wear Lengha for a change, since I’m already wearing 2 saris for the AD… went to Jinder and found one really nice lavender pink lengha.. price quite reasonable but it will clash with my wedding sari color… so got them to reserve and see how.. more shopping this week again.

Bangles and Jewellery set.: went to De’vogue to scout around the bangles… they have really beautiful jewellery sets but they cost easily $250-300 per set.. no point getting it since I only use it for just the AD… have asked the staff to check if they do rental…

Wedding cards: waiting for collection.

Bedroom set: headache now cos these 3 days we are painting the whole house..everything in a big mess.. lots of cleaning and washing to do.. and moving furniture out from FH’s room.… now room is quite empty and we have not shopped for any bedroom sets yet.. looking for teak wood designs but I heard it will be expensive… see how..

Anyone has any furniture place to recommend? I prefer Balinese design/ sandalwood color furniture.

Apryl>> You can try Usha from Haazel’s beauty Lab for your mehendi. 63923217, 94249360

Piggy>> Chinese PG usually cost much more: minimum 1200 for full day event… Malay and Indian PG are slightly cheaper.. they charge by the roll ( $70-90 per roll). You need at least 6 rolls= banquet, 8 rolls= temple wedding, 3-4= bangle ceremony…For PG, i can recommend Naseer. I got this contact from Sphire. He showed me a couple of good works. Can do journalistic and candid shoots for AD as well as outdoor. I took up the AD (customary + dinner event)+ bangle ceremony PG from him. Not the cheapest but he gives good quality pictures and he's very focus on the job.

You may need to up your PG’s budget.. Naseer is quite flexible as well. For simple 4hr shoot abt $250. He has a VG to work with him so he can give you a package rate. He can take studio pics. He has other contacts like MU and wedding decorator services, so you can have more contacts to find out.. just check him out and let him know your budget.

Rany and Kayla>> It is advisable to get a prescription from GP, in tablet forms…to delay your “time of the monthâ€. usually at least 1-2 weeks before the actual day… this is to prepare the body for physiological changes.. Whenever you are stressed.. usually the body will react. Your period day will not be punctual and will come unexpectedly.. This is not good when you are having your wedding day.. so much trouble to go thru with the cleansing and everything. I’m sure you keep track the dates for your time of the month.. just do a quick count forward… usually within the 30-32 days after the current period… if you think it’s going to hit within the same week.. go see the GP or gynae for the pill.. anyway… it only helps to delay temporary for that day.. Safe enuf, gives you worry-free and does not mess up the system.. afterall.. it’s your wedding.. once in a lifetime… small sacrifice lah… Trust me.. you will be frustrated and moody when you are having period.. pimples will appear as well cos you are ‘heaty’.. you will feel dreadful, pics will not look good.. This is something I don’t think the priest can do wonders to change your mood…

Sphire >> Thanks for the PG Naseer contact. Met up with him last week and both my MIL and he happened to have a same close family friend. A very Small world indeed. at first i thought the meeting will last only 1hr at most... they talked and talked and talked.... it lasted 3 hours. ;-(

Shan >> Thanks for the advice. MIL felt more comfortable with Naseer

Lisa >> Agreed with Kayla…Guna/Kuna services is one of the decorating contract for most of the hindu temples.. not very fantastic.... Pandora’s decorations is nice cos they do a lot of Malay wedding so the style is quite grand but that comes with the price.. you contacted Vanan I believe.. anyway.. if you are doing in the temple.. you have to keep it simple due to the constraints of the hall..too complicated the design may not be a good thing.. imagine all the friends and relatives will be on the stage, all the colorful sarees will not help to bring our the grand décor you have… I’m going for something simple and classic.. no typical indian style but more of the trendy ballroom décor.

Hi Joelle,
Impressive Update dear! Glad to know that you have done so much within a short span of time. I too went to check out LOOKS before and i found that their MU doesnt suit their clients' features. They did not even touch-up their photos well. For example, there was one particular couple's photo; the whitish MU can be seen clearly on the guy's face and MU could be seen on the bride's elbow and arms. Plus when u go there, they usually force you to do facial treatments with Bubbly's mum. Don have any regrets dear...U have already made the booking so pluck up the courage not to accept their work if it doesnt satisfy you and always ask the PG to show u immediately when the shots are takeN. That way, u can know what amendments to make...Don drink alot of water the night before the photoshoot as it will make your face look bloated the next morning...Take care and have a good time posing ok! Don forget to update us...

Hi Rajesh,
When's your big day and are u intending to hold the solemnization in an outside venue or within the ROM? The main things in any function would be Venue, Food, Decor, PG & VG, Makeup & Clothes, Entertainment etc...So after deciding on the venue, u can brainstorm about the rest.

Hi Lise,
Here's Mr Don's Contact no: 98509924. He can even help you buy things like door gifts from india and brings them the next day. But u have to pay him some money according to the weight of the items.

Hi gals

kayla: thanks for mr don's contact dear. will get in touch with him soon.

joelle: thanks for the info dear. after much thinking i decided to go for sthg simple too. nothing too elaborate.

Rajesh: u can try Vanan from pandora tomorrow. his decor is rather nice n modern.

i was watching the show dhool on tv today n realised that LOOKs did the make up for the host. n it turned out rather nice. was thinking of trying till i read the comments from u girls. haha.. thanks girls!

Hi Joelle...
wow, you've sure done alot! good on you girl,

just a quick question, Haazel's Beauty Lab, where are they? could u give me the address? and also, how much are they charging for mehndi?

Its amazing how much you've covered though really.. making me feel extremly panicky for not doing anything yet...sigh

Also, this decorator Naseer, could i have his contact number too please? does he have a website? my email add is [email protected]

Hi Rajeshwari.. congrats on your upcoming ROM...

hi ladies,

WOW! You gals have been rather busy..Good on you, gals!

Chick - I dont really have a particular design in mind but will try to see if i can get a bustier gown. Also want something in off-white or champagne gold with coloured accents. Dont want an all white gown.

Hi Ladies. Howdies..

Chick - kekekkeke.. well thanks for the list of PS venues. Mi have printed it out to show FH. I c Little india in the list too.
happy.gif

FH is not comfortable with Naseer's work too. Looks like William will still linger in my PG list too. Could u pass mi William's number? Think I've missed placed it.. [email protected]
Mi will be using my BS MUA for PS. NO $$ to engage external MUA..
sad.gif
.

Kayla - My date is fixed but temple is not letting us book. Different priest is telling us different booking dates. So confused. My heart will only rest when the venue is finalised.
U dont hv a trial with your BS? Its normally in the standard packages. U must be really excited now that the invites are flying all over.

Rajeshwari - Welcome on board. What kinda atmosphere u looking to have? A traditional outlook or a modern concept? Guess your food, deco and etc depends on that.

Joelle - WOW!! I'm impressed. Great that Naseer worked out for you. U could probably take a look at holland V or furniture mall for your bedroom set. Rem seeing Balinese designs.

Kismet - Naseer is a photographer. He may hv contacts for decos. His number is 94529202.

Thanks Sphire.. hehehe, realised i read wrongly.. the decorator i was asking Joelle about was recommended by Naseer, his name is Rajoo... Does anyone have a contact number for him or a webiste address?

Thanks

HI Ladies,
After all the preps. the wedding is finally over. It was a nice ceremony and my husband enjoyed it. thanks for your wishes. let me know if you need any help..i will be leaving end of march..

piggy - I'm assuming you got your cards printed in India ( Delhi )? May i know which printer in India you used? I need to get my cards printed there too.I'mm off to India next week. Were the printers you used easy to work with? Did you collect the cards in person or had them couriered?

Hi Sphire,
Ya better to book the temple venue earlier so that u can confirm the other impt things with the wedding vendors...U know, it didnt even hit me to have a trial with the BS MUA!! Thankfully, the photos turned out fine! Actually, i didnt even go for a trial with Susiee b4 i confirmed her. I just looked at her clients' photos and like her ornaments. Cos usually indian bridal MU is quite heavy. Furthermore, i also did my indian photoshoot with her. I am happy with her MU so far but i still dont want to wear so much of MU during my wedding so i have to talk to her abt applying lesser MU.
As for the cards, i am looking thru my yearbooks and old class lists to remember my old friends. Quite nice to call them and talk abt old times...Think i am going to have many pleasant reunions at my wedding reception

Hi SK, I did most of my shopping in Punjab & got my cards from Amritsar. I went there twice. Once wid my bf & his folks and later wid my mum & grandfolks. Got the cards with my bf on the first trip and did not pick anything from the ready-to-print samples therefore it took abt 2 weeks to be ready and in-laws(2b kekke) brought them back through cargo on SQ. Ordered abt 2000 cards for wedding and 1000 for engagement.

Sorry cant help with shopping in Delhi either. I ordered my wedding outfits from mumbai & calcutta thru frens. As for accessories, i'm not much into it really wanted very simple, the plainest bangles, etc wic i got in punjab easily. Have a few costume jewelleries from mumbai but it was bought by my fren. Bf picked/picking up my stuff from frens in india when on business trips.

Havent been to Delhi but i can find out, i'll ask my frens and get back to u soon.

Thanks, piggy. I've done the shopping for my main wedding and reception outfits. Ordered my 'chura' as well. Keep travelling to India for work so am able to do shopping in bits. Will be in Mumbai this trip too so am planning to visit stores like Seasons for some other clothes and an outfit for my sangeet. Just that i have to get my cards printed in Delhi this trip. Do let me know if there's a place other than Seasons in Mumbai, worth the visit. Thanks!

Hey fellow indian brides,
I'm having my temple wedding in OCT & hv not booked anything other than the wedding hall at ceylon rd temple. I'm so worried. My main concern is to book the MUA soon. What points to consider when choosing one, any tips?

I've read thru the posts & saw that Looks, Shanti, Sussie are popular.

Anyone tried Saheli b4? Pics look v.gd.

Thanks ya

hey Angelic...

why not try Moghul at Novotel hotel..i did my rom lunch there for $18net per person.. was a really good selection too...

Hey Kismet,
I did call Moghul but the seating capacity is not much. I'm looking at approx 150 guests.
BTW, How did u do your ROM. Was it just dinner & soleminization or did u have dj, cake cutting, champagne ??? What did u wear? If any pics u cld share, pls send them to [email protected]
TKS
I've another restaurant in mind- Masala Art. Seating is ard 250 at peninsula plaza. I've not been there but the person told me its $32 per head with so many variety of dishes.

Hi Angelic.. my rom was planned in a rush a we really wanted to keep it small so we did the ceremony at the ROM bulding itself and went for lunch at Moghul...
how abt booking a hall at spams jom.. think hall rental is under $1000 (remember my sis only paid $400 but that way 4 years ago)... then u can cater under $20 per person.. its a really nice hall... all the best ya.

Oh yes and as for makeup.. i deff u reccommend u do a trial with anyone.. i'm thinking of trying out shanti. have heard soo many reving reviews abt her...

hi kismet,
We dun want to book a big room.Coz we dun want to have Dj, sound system & have the cake cutting, champagne. We are jsut having 1 DJ, sound system. Keep the cost down.

Is it ok to wear a modern outfit( like evening gown) at an Indian restaurant? I dun wish to wear saree. Leghna also possible but my bf says he'll be not wearing an traditional suit. only modern suit with blazer, pants & shirt. Will it be matching?

Yeah heard gd reviews of Shanti..do let me know how yr trial went. R u a south indian doing a temple wedding?

Hi Kismet/Angelic8, i'm having my trial with Shanthi this sunday, will keep u gals posted.

Sphire - I dun have william's no. with me now, i'll send it to you sometime in the next 2 days k.

Angelic8, the sooner u book the MUA the better. Have u got your sari already? Cos some mite ask what colour your sari is...

Hi Ladies

Angelic- >>
Venue- Check out Gayatri Resturant at The Ogilvy Centre. Not sure how big the place is. Hv been to outlet in Race Course Rd.. love their food. They hv both South and North indian dishes. http://www.gayatrirestaurant.com.
MUA - Its best that U book your MUA soon. I had problem bookin mine for my banquet. I've take the risk and confirmed Shanti without trial.
Outfit - Its okie to wear an evening gown. If u really want to blend with the atmosphere, u could go for lengah. It really depends on wht u'll feel comfortable in.

Chick - No prob. Also update mi on Shanti. If can, post mi a pic too.

Hi Gals...

Happy belated V-day again.. did my PH with LOOKS on V-day... how romantic... but poor bubbly have to spend the day with us... outdoor shoot was a killer cos it was extremely hot... we started at 1230pm and the Sun did not spare us... so lesson learnt.. never do it before 2pm... but i think no choice.. we needed the lighting.. the rest of the day was a breeze cos it's indoor studio..but the outdoor temple shoots were nice..we did it sometime in the late afternoon at 5pm... the pixs turned out the best... but for those who are going to take the pixs at the temple, especially using the temple door as the backdrop… please make sure you go before 4pm as most of the temples will open their doors after that…they can't have it closed for you for your PH if you want it closed and try to take some pix with it… We got scoldings from the personnel there when we closed one side of the door for PH.

Have gone to choose the pixs just now in the evening... total there were 250pix taken.. i selected about 86 of them which are the better ones..will get them in softcopy.. out of which will have abt 36pix printed in the 8R wedding magazine, 1 table top and 1 huge portrait.. took one of the temple shoots for the portrait... quite satisfied so far.. hoping they do a good touchup of me... Finally one load of my mind

Tomorrow to collect the wedding cards... can't believe that the day is getting nearer...

Kismet>> Haazel's Beauty Lab is at 92 Serangoon Rd, above ABR Music Video. Usha charges $120 for the mehendi. Decorator Rajoo's number: 91006579

Kayla>> Thanks for the concern.. did not really regret on taking up from bubbly.. her eye make up was good… she made my eyes look big…in fact we had fun with her and the PG kannan.. at 1st i tot my FH will be the reluctant sort.. u know how men hate to take photos..and they have such a hard time to smile in front of the cam.. When we were doing the outdoor shoots with the WG... he did not smile much, poses were awkward and he was perspiring so much like he just had a swim in S'pore River.. complained alot abt the weather which i felt sorry to put him through.. i was worried that he will look dreadful for the rest of the day cos the mood was dampened by the weather....but once we got on to the studio.. he got "warm-up" and was the joker for the group... lots of smiles, jokes and candid stuff he did.. thank god…. Mayb it’s the power of Airconditioning !.. hahaha… There was lots of couches around and he just made himself at home...he was so spontaneous that Bubbly had to ask me if my FH will ever sit still.... Overall things just fall into place.. i felt alot better...

So far no pressure for any facial treatments from Bubbly's mum. She only appeared towards end of the day and was nice enuf to help me to pack up even.. I guess all of us clicked well..

Got my Lehnga on Wednesday from one of the shops at Selegie Centre.. can't remember the name of the shop but it's in the same building where Menaka is... did not want get something too grand and i can only wear once.. MIL suggested that i go with something i can wear to other weddings yet still presentable for the Bangles Ceremony. Picked a bright orange and blended with some red at the bottom.. Price was afforable but i liked the green wedding Lehnga which cost me $300.. no choice.. had to agree with MIL which was stating the facts.. after all... i do not want the dress to go to waste and get hidden in the closet... it will be a pity if the dress "never get to see a daylight" again after i wear it for the bangle ceremony..

Needed some alterations but should be ready next week... another item off my list...

I kinda of got interested with lehnga suits and saw one really nice one at tekka market.. Red and topped with green tones.. very sweet.. i looked very good (i think lah..) so was trying to convince MIL to let me wear this suit for the bangle Ceremony instead.. she insisted i don't look like a bride... aiyah..so tough lor.. but after that she give way lah.. said i can have a second costume change if i want to.. then i can wear this one for photo-taking.. hehehe...

Will get the bangles next week after the CNY...

Still scouting for the jewellery sets for the wedding sari...actually Bubbly has some nice bombay sets very suitable for my saris.. she charge $80 and above for rental depending on the designs.. see how lah...
