Hi Sanity....

I am so busy at work and school.. that all my time is like buring out fast.. I have not source out the venue yet.. I am just so super stressed because i dont know what i want to do.. My Hubby in the other hand is like on the cool side .. What eva i suggest he is like .. ok.. do what u want.. which makes me freak out even more.. Gosh... I hope to atleast settle the venue by end of this month....

DO u guys know of any place i can hold a wedding dinner?? apart from hotels..

Sanity >> I am probably going to go with the standard edible type of wedding favor. Mine is in sept. Which VG/PG you are looking at? Might go to Chennai too for wedding shopping. Any place where I can get those pretty lenghas in chennai? Looking around for one of those bollywood-styled lenghas, with a mermaid cut and a corset top.
i went to the DY in marina square. Their gowns are quite sweet and simple.

Kani >> what is your crowd size like? If it is a small crowd, u can consider a restaurant? Like song of india? If you like the great outdoors, then how about one of those country clubs? British club, fairways etc?

My updates >> Currently on the great gown hunt. Went to Bridal veil, seletar and GHA. I've still not found THE GOWN! =(
Looking for a videographer. Looking for edible wedding favors.

Wedding is a never ending headache man... Deep inside me i still waant a temple wedding.. but the process is too long winded for me....

Going to sit down with my husband today and dicuss what we want...

Kani, its good that u have decided to sit down n have a chat with ya partner. M sure something productive will come outta ur discussion.

As for venues, jess has given a couple of gd ideas.....here's a few on ma part, mirichi esplanade has a very elegant setting. One of ma gf's had her weddin recep at garuda padang (indon rest) near heeren. It was quite classy i tot. Like i said earlier botanical gardens...hmmm.. or like in sum bars/restaurants @ the hotels... M hotel?

Else follow ya heart and go with the temple wedding. Ask your parents n in laws for help...M sure they'll be more than happy to help. You dun have to do it all alone dear. Also seek the help of ya close frens....hey it can all turn out to be fun?

Relax, chill, dun freak out... think abt it ova the weekend.

Jess, edible type of favor eh? If thats the case then, u can order in s'pore or Jb right? What do u have in mind? Cupcakes...choco...honey kinda? Or laddu, jilebi sorta... Prob ma parents are thinkin abt giving aways bags with laddus n some gifts (maybe a fancy kumkum holder?).

I think u can find the lenghas in a new mall called "express mall" in chennai. I also need to get a lengha....Heard, T-nagar is where its all happening...where u'll get a bulk of ur shoppin done. I'm praying that, i'll find a lengha there....or i'll have to end up at the door steps of the gd old pricey stylemart!
sad.gif

VG/PG- thinkin of edmund leung n Moses....might have to look for another pg for more traditional photos...u know the group shots and stuff.

Kani >> Hang in there! =)

Sanity >> Do people give away jilebi? How do they wrap it? I wish Singapore sold Sri krishna sweets. I love their Maisoorpak. It's heaven on earth.... mmmm.... delish... I really have no idea

Thanks for the tip on the express mall!!!! I will check it out. I've seen Edmund Leung's work. It's really nice!

Jess pple do give away jilebis or jaankiris wrapped in colored papers. Yeap Krishna sweets stores have the most amazin maisoorpaks....perhaps u can order from india when u go there? Ask em to gift wrap it? Ma mum was telling me that pple in india do that for weddings....u can ask for speacial request to ship it to singapore? pple in india r quite flex and helpful...or u can enquire abt it by calling em??

Sanity >> I am going to india way before the wedding so I cannot bring them back with me. But shipping is a possibility. Must explore!

Kani >> For my case, we split it equally between his family and mine. Budget depends on what you want I guess. I think the bulk of the budget would go to the temple booking fee and food.

Kani- yeah we r gonna split the cost equally bet the two families just like jess. Like wat jess mentioned the food would be the most ex...depending on ur guest list...if ya planning on takin journalistic photos, that would cost abit too....temple hall booking fee is generally cheaper than bookin a hotel venue or country clubs. Also if u r thinkin abt bookin the temple's weddin hall, u betta do hurry...cus when my folks called up the temples in nov, almost all temples were booked for the weekends.

Jess, u can look around in chennai since ya goin way b4 ya weddin.....n order if ya find sumthin suitable...ship it later. Mine is gng to be shipped from india.

are u guys goin on a honeymoon trip after ya weddin??

Hi ladies,

I'm a newbie here, noticed this thread and decided to join in.

I'll be having my temple wedding on June 4th 2011.

Just confirmed my MUA few days ago. Mala from Spa Alangkara. I was very impressed with her during my trial, and the best part about her is that she's willing to consider your own preferences, and never forces anything on you. She was very patient and took almost 2 hours with me! Really recommend her!

Hope you girls can welcome me to your discussions as well

Hello Sindhu, welcome on board and congrats!

Nice! We've ur wedding in june...mine in july..think kani's is in aug(sorry kani if i'm wrong) and jess's in sept...one after another!
happy.gif

I was thinking about mala from spa alangkara too...didnt know much about her....thanks a bunch for ur feedback. Don't u just love it when they listen to us n not the other way aroun...

Which temple is ur wedding held at? Have you found someone to do ur temple deco?

i think most probably i will give up indian dress..

didn't wanna waste money to buy it and keep it forever and never wear it..

booked venue and photographer..

Hello Ladies!
Mine's at the Ganesha temple. I had shortlisted Spa Alangara too. But it didn't work out for me. She's got loads of temple jewelry options though. You'd be spoiled for choice.

We've actually not talked about a honeymoon. =O
But it would be nice to go somewhere to unwind.... Where are you ladies going?

Hi Sanity,

Thanks! That's nice everyone's weddings are in a row..Yes I strongly recommend Mala...She worked according to everything I wanted. And yes Jessica is right, she's got loooooads of accessories, although I'm gonna be using my own.

My wedding is at Tank Rd temple. How about yours? My wedding decor I'm really leaving up to my mum to decide on, as she wants to get a wedding planner who does everything all in one...That one I'm really leaving up to her. My fiance and I are more involved in our reception preps, and leaving more of the traditional stuff to parents.

Jessica, we wanted to go to Maldives for honeymoon, but heard that it may be monsoon season in June...so not sure yet...how about you?

Sindhu, we both have the same venue for our traditional wedding.
happy.gif
thats neat!!! Btw i spoke to mala. She seems really nice like u mentioned. Sorry, i took the liberty to tell her that u recommended her on this forum....She was super elated. I tried sending u a PM before i called her.. to inform u, but guess u dun accept PM (thats what ur profile says). Sorry abt that tho. And again thanks so much for ur info/review. I'm gonna get her to do my bridal hair do n tie ma saree.

Uh huh...so ya mum's gonna handle the temple wedding huh. Thats so nice of her. You have one less thing to stress abt.

Maldives is amazin....losta honeymooners all yr aroun. But the weather pattern these days is not predictable, who noes u might end up goin there eventually. The beach villas r to die for, with ur own private beach.

Jess i;ve not decided on a place yet too....Prob i might go sumwhere in the asian continent for a few days, as i live down under...n i dun get much leave.

Well the latest on ma side,ma dad is thinking of guna for temple deco tho i want pandora...is anyone engaging guna??? Is his work gd???

where r u gals printing ur wedding cards. Tho there are lotsa designs in india (menaka esp)...but its kinda pricey...is JB a better place to print?

Hello ladies! Wow the thread is picking up.
Kani, Temple is near katong. Ceylon road to be exact.
Sindhu, No honeymoon plans for me yet.
Sanity, I'd like to find out more about Guna too.
Jun, are you on the great gown hunt? Me too! Sighs... Spent so many hours looking for THE GOWN. I've still not found anything. Any boutiques to recommend ladies? I've gone to stylemart, golden horse and bridal veil. Anyone tried French Bridal before?

Jessica

i am going to bridal veil this sat.. most probably alone..

next week going to silhoutte the atelier...

if u need accompany let me know.. i am all alone..

BF is in UK.. soo i have to do it all by myself..

Hey jun n jess...just an idea,do u gals buy the brides mag?? I think they have plenty of ideas for wedding gowns.....it might help since u guys r havin difficulties findin THE gown...

To all the BTB->> Where are u gurls printing ur wedding invites? Any suggestions?

Hi Jun, thanks dearie. That's sweet of you to offer.

heya Sanity, yup I've bought quite a few mags. If you are looking for a wedding gown, they are quite useful. For evening gowns, not so much though. The variety they showcase is limited. For myself, I'm actually looking for an evening gown.

Invites for me are going to be from india I guess? Online they have some good sites. Then you can ship over.

Hi sanity,

I think most of us are printing in JB.

Hi sindu,

Holiday Inn - u mean orchard city center... ? The ballroom is beautiful for that one...

Jess isnt it kinda ex to buy off the indian websites? Each card is around 50 rupees=1.5 sgd(moderately exquisite ones)...i've a HUGE guest list....so spend abt 1.3k sgd (in ma case) for say 800 guest on invites is that norm?

So geez bummer...they dun have much ideas on evenin wear huh....hmmm...jess u need the gown by sept right? Stitch one?....tho im not sure if thats ez on the pocket....

Heya kani! Have u decided on what u r gonna do? temple weddin or..... Is it more reasonable to print invites in JB? I dun noe if spending 1.3k for invites is a reasonable price or would it cost that much normally...

hey all.. i am like comparing prices and seeing.. i will finalise all by this weekend once my exams are over. Cannot concentrate.. must do one thing at a time. We are leaning more to simple wedding ceremony.. and reception.. finish off.. my Hubby came up with a ridiculos idea last night.. saying after temple wedding, we say fly all the cousin and close knitted relative for a holiday nearby.. genting or thailand... more fun... all his crazy ideas

Hi Sanity >> yup indian online ones are pretty pricey. But still cheaper than SG I think? Anyone knows about SG prices? For me, I can't do the JB cards cos I dont have time to make multiple trips there. It's certainly more affordable to print in JB though. Sighs... weddings are expensive!

And yup need the gown for Sept. Trying get OTR...

Hi guys...

IF u guys are having those pre - wedding shots , u can rent the gown from the bridal studio... much more worth rather buying because most likely it will be just left in the cupboard soon after.

Hi Sanity, that's nice! Tank rd is very big so its good if you're inviting a lot of people. No worries about telling Mala that I recommended..Oops sorry I don't really know what my settings are so didn't know that I can't recieve PM, will rectify that. Anw, for Mala, do go down in person and set up a trial with her ya. And I'm engaging her husband for his photography services as well. Looks very good. Have a look okay.

Yup I would love to go to Maldives. Been reading other forums and I'm getting excited reading what others say about it. Haha

Btw, my mum is considering Guna's also. Cos mine is a malayalee wedding, and apparently he he has the malayalee vilaku and all that. Like I said, that one I'm leaving up to her. But what I hear so far is good stuff about him. He's not that modern tho...I like KM wedding decor..very modern and nice.

Hi Kani, Yup that's the place..Its very beautiful, but one disadvantage is that its kind of small..

hey jess, i think the indian prices and s'pore prices for invites are pretty much comparable...just that india has plenty of designs...gng JB is also a hassle...sighs..

Hi Sindhu, thanks
happy.gif
. Yeah i'll go for a trial in may...tho she told me there is no need for a trial for hair do...well i betta go, dun want any hiccups on the actual day. I was goin to ask u abt her hubs on the photography. Glad that u brot it up
happy.gif
..I have alrdy engaged Edmund to do journalistic photos...but, think i need another for more traditional photos..like the group shots, ceremonial shots yada yada.....how much does mala's hubs charge roughly? If u dun mind sharing.... Malayalee weddin huh...cool, its ez pickin out ur wedding saree eh? ;) Mine is a telugu weddin...i doubt there's anythin diff from the tamilian weddin, except the thali. Therefore the decor is standard.

I really dun feel like guna and his old sch stuff
sad.gif
but ma dad and FIL is persistent..... for gods sake can they let the BRIDE have it her way...laughs. oh well maybe i m gonna just leave it to em just like what u said. Dun wanna get anymore frown lines...

I'm behind u on the maldives idea! Go for it gurl!

Kani gd luck on exams! Go ace it...

Hi Kani, nope we've already booked the place..haha..

Hey Sanity, Yup I also have a modern photographer as well, but you're right, I wanted a traditional one too for those group shots and all. And also he's an indian photographer, he's quite modern as well! Well for his photography alone is below $1000. But that's the package price, as I'm getting the make up as well. Maybe u could ask Mala about the package price. Btw, who will be doing the make up, since she's only doing your hairdo for u?

Ya I'm also a bit worried about Guna being old school, but my mum is also kind of fixed on him so ya...Haha..what to do...I'm doing the decision making for everything but the wedding coordinator, so I let my mum choose for that one..

Hello sindhu, thanks gurl for the info on the pricin. You r right, i shld enquire abt the photography package. Acutually mala is charging me almost the same for hair n saree tyin as the whole works. She said make up is not a big thing thus she quoted me 50 bucks less than the package..(thats steep!).....might also get mala to do my mum's hair bun, make up and saree....sarah is doin my make up.

Have u printed invites yet? Ma parents r goin Ova to the inlaws to talk abt the invites somtime this week...n m sure aft this meetin, another few changes will be made...n i'll age faster. YAY!....NOT!

Hi everyone,

Im a holiday inn bride too.Btw im lookin for a hair stylist and makeup artist for tanned skintone. Any recommendations?

Hi Angel,
try shanti(stylemart)....The previous brides have highly recommended her for tan skin...she does both hair and makeup....or try sarah, but she does not do traditional hairdo if thats what u r after. Hope this helps.

Hey Sanity, Yup Mala is doing my mum and sis's makeup and saree as well. She included it as part of the package. Sarah is really good! She did my engagement makeup. But I wanted someone who does traditional hair, make up, and saree tying so I got Mala.

Haha I understand how its like...there are forever a lot of changes cos both sides may have different ideas. I'm gonna be printing in JB. Parents will be going prob next week.

Hi Angel, holiday inn too? That's great. Who's your coordinator and when is your reception?

Hi Sindhu, sarah is good its a bummer that she cant do traditional hairdo...oh well, at least there is mala to the rescue.
happy.gif
also must thank u again for ur positive feedback on mala.

Guess ma folks r goin down to JB to scout aron for the invites as well, as printing in india does not seem feasible.

Do we need a DJ for the temple wedding, esp where the guests are dining?

Oh wow, its been awefully quiet in here...

Hey jess, for the sign, try auromira trades, at little india arcade, ground flr, opp the entrance to banana leaf...its a mini book store, that does printing too..Look for uncle puru.
