Jessica - Not sure. Used a non-indian for my ROM and pics turned out lovely but not sure if he can do Indian Weddings. Indian Weddings usually have ALOT of details to look out for....As for the lenghas by Saheli Bridal, they are GORGEOUS! I rented for my ROM and never regretted it....

Kumutha >> How is Saheli's variety in lenghas? Also do they have any sleeveless, more modern looking ones? As for PG, there are some non-indian photographers who have done indian weddings. I think Ambi photography is 1 of them. But they are quite ex.

Jun >> yah only in-house materials allowed. U tried indian saree emporium?

Jessica --> She has alot of variety and colours to choose from...maybe u can drop by her place in Pasir Ris...oh and she usually has matching accessories to go along with it too...i rented my lengha and accessories from her for my ROM. My friend rented a wedding gown from Saheli for her dinner..settled on my photo and videographers already...gettin the same guys who did my ROM...so at least dont have to worry about that...Going to check out Menaka today....hopefully can settle today too...

Dear brides to be, hope you girls are doing fine admist the wedding prep stress. I'm a newbie here and am tying the knot come july. Its a temple wedding. I was wondering if anyone of you could kindly let know of someone who could just do the saree tying and bridal hair do. I would very much appreciate it.

Also i was lookin through the archives...the brides were so much more active back then it seems.

It would be really nice to see a lively dicussion board. Just a suggestion.

Hi sanity,

I also noticed that there is not much people on line over here as well. I was also intially preparing for a temple wedding, but after much consideration decided to do a simple temple one at the sanctrum and them have a wedding reception elsa where.. as most of the people coming are all colgs and frens of other races and i dont think they will enjoy a temple wedding as the process is long.

As for sareer tying and hair-do.. i dont think there is anyone who will just do this.. usually comes with the makeup and hair do ... So where is yr wedding at????

Hi kani, firstly congrats on ya wedding

I see what u mean abt the temple wedding. Yea its a good idea when ya have lotsa relatives, but since ya've many non indians comin...prob sanctum wedding is the best idea.

My wedding's at the tank road temple. Where's urs at? How is ur prep coming along? Have u found a place for ya dinner reception? how abt the botanical gardens? cater food and have a reception under the stars, classy...just throwin in some ideas...
happy.gif

Geez i just need someone to do my saree tying and the bridal hair do as i alrdy have someone else doin ma makeup. Ugh...god where are all the '11 brides????? It will be so cool to share info's and tide ova the stress period togetha...moral support maybe??

Tank Road temple... u might be having a huge guest list.. i am still trying to look ard for the venue.. actually i am like kinda of lost in all these preparations.. I have lots of relatives , know those extended family kind... as well as lots of colg and frens - non chinese.. If i am going to throw in a hotel.. they go by per pax. current rate right now is abt $70 nett. i am def going to lose out alot as u know for indian family we cannot just invite so called 1 or 2 person in the family and leave out the rest.. Even if i invite all four people in a family, the most i can get from them the ang pow is like $100 max i think,so totaly not worth it...

Looking ard at khalsa or Bayview hotel.. this weekend have to go and check out.

Who is yr makeup artist? she cant do yr hair?? usually u can get the oldies to help u with the sarees as all sarees are like tied somewhat the same. they are much more experienced.

Hi Ladies! Finally some activity on this page!

Check out Saheli (recommended by some brides here. Saw her work and it is awesome!) Menaka is good for the temple. I hear she's very fast with the saree tying bit.

Anyone has any recommendations for DJs and performers?

Hi Kani, geez i totally hear u abt the whole relative saga! When u invite one u gotta invite the whole clan. laughs...yep i have lotsa relatives. We were initially gonna have a recep as well, but after much pondering, we dimissed the idea, as its just gonna cause much chaos in ma case.

You gotta fix the venue asap girl, as i found out pple book venues like 1 or 2yrs ahead. Esp when it comes to temples...as we have such few auspicious dates in a month. Bayview hotel.. is that in bencoolen st??? Isnt parking diff babe? Just wondering. Why don't you give the temple wedding a 2nd thot. Cus the ceremony in the temple isnt as long as u think it would take...prob all will be done n ova with, within an hr or 1.5 max...as it gotta be done within that allocated auspicious time. Well it could also be an experience for the non indian mates
happy.gif
Plus temple weddings will be ez on ur pockets i would think, in comparison to a hotel ceremony. (no need for emcees TOO) Talk to your folks,HTB and inlaws....bang it out..Do decide on sumthin soon. I have sarah in mind for ma make up....i know she wont be able to do the tradditional hairdo and saree tryin... i've heard of this freelance MUA, jay i think...wonder if she still does saree tying n hairdo..

Hello Jessica! Thanks for the input on MUAs. Saheli and menaka might insist on doing the whole works. I just need the hair and saree tying done. As for the hair i want a simpler version of the tradditional hair do....not too much flowers and accessories. I hate it when the MUA insist on doin it their way
sad.gif
like im the bride, they gotta please me right??? sighs... Have you got ya MUA yet??

Djs hmmm pandora pple who do the deco also can arrange for a DJ (heard they are gd but a'll pricey)...hmmm then there is this guy suresh...dun have his no off hand, but can get for you if u like....does quite abit of weddings...As for performers....what r u looking at...dance? singing? or sum trick/skill display...

Actually i and my husband actually did our ROM quite some time ago.. its like gonna be 2 years soon in may (2011).. We are also currently staying together.. its just that we did not do the customery as we rather pump the $$ into our new place... but now not possible... so called have to do the customery asap ... if not its not considered married... damns sienz.. each time we go weddings or function... its all the same question... when getting married.. i think next time do away with ROm... indian community dont reg. that...

So i am also lost dont know what to do... It so funny walking down the red carpet as if u are just getting married when it was already done 2 years ago....

I had Menaka for my ROM.... she is ok i would say... but i noticed that after a while the make up starts coming off, u know all the heat and all.. As for the hairstyle it was so and so.. the same old thingy.. and the saree .. yes she tied in fast.. but i looked super fat in it....

sanity82

New Member
I presume ur Rom must have been quite grand
happy.gif
nice. Well, its a pity that majority of the indians don't recon ROM as being "officially" married. Guess traddition prevails in this case. Oh well...

Yeah, abt saree tying, not all of em can do it well...also the material of the saree plays a part in the slimming or enlarging effect. sighs....

kani2310

New Member
Yeah soley agree... My Rom was a simple one as well.. I am not a fussy person... I really likes things to be simple... ...

My saree for the Rom was the silk pattu i think.. cost me almost $500++ plus now in the cupboard sleeping... i think it is good to get someone who knows abt the sareer well to tie it.. I got my grandmother to tie it later and wow so much of difference.. The oldies knew it better

Hi Sanity and Kani!

I booked Saheli and Menaka. And yes I have noticed Menaka's makeup is a bit light. Will have to ask her to make it heavier (without looking caked of course)

would you ladies know of the jeanz DJ and how much he charges?

As for performers, I was looking for a dance item. But something tasteful.

For saree tying alone and hair, you could try nakshatra located in sgoon. I think they provide.

Are you ladies getting any wedding gowns? wedding favors? I am having a tough time looking for a gown. =( It's so hard to find a nice and affordable one! Argh.

sanity82

New Member
Geez thanks Jess for the info on saree tying and hair. Nakshatra....will check em out...thanks once again.

You can try stylemart for wedding gowns also. You could even consider hiring from em if you don't wanna purchase one. Why don't you buy an expensive saree and rent a gown instead. Cus atleast the saree can be worn a few times unlike a gown. But of cus this just my opinion.
happy.gif
Don't worry im pretty sure you'll find "the" gown soon
happy.gif

I think my parents are gonna order the wedding favors from india. I'm still clueless on that one.

You can call Jeanz and enquire abt the DJ. They will provide you with the info you need.

yup temple wedding. U found your venue yet?

I went to stylemart last month. Didnt realize they had gowns to rent. Will check them out again! thanks for the info! yup sarees are certainly more re-useable. =)

Sanity are your parents ordering online from india by any chance? I am currently on the great favor hunt!

Hey gurls,
jess, i think my parents are ordering thru some family fren....they have not decided on the type of gift yet. Its def gonna be sumthin traditional since its a temple weddin...tho i have strictly said no to sliver plates and tumblers...so cliche. R u plannin on buyin it online? Or r u plannin on a trip to india?

Kani, im prob doin the wedding photoshoot sumtime after the wedding. As i dun wanna another added stess before the wedding.

So which stage of preps are you gals at, this point?

In ma case, the parents are scouting for invitation cards, wedding deco is yet to be looked at, favors is in the talks... Both VG n PG have yet to get back to me. MUA...another headache..to just find someone to do my hair and saree. Prob, headin down to chennai to get sarees, accessories and other misc stuff. I'm hopin that my dad will look into the food soon. So as of now nothin is done or confirmed. Im pretty stressed alrdy...unlike the inlaws or ma parents...n the husband laughs when i say im freaking out...Sighs.

Oh i forgot...haven engage a DJ for the dinning area...i know i have 5 months to work with...but it'll help to get things sorted out early, so that everyone can breathe in the later months.

Hey Jess, when is ur wedding?
Kani have u booked ya venue yet? How did bayfront hotel go?
And the rest of the '11 brides where are u guys hiddin??
