Indian wedding Services in Singapore

Shan >> Hi again. How’s ur search for the wedding favours in Air Hitam? The lady who quoted u the wedding fav in Singapore is cheap. Wat is it btw?

Anyway, I emailed u my temple wedding program.
wink.gif

YB>> Seen the pics on the link u gave me.. Very nice and well done
wink.gif

Nec>> Hey Nec, thanks for all the PG contacts u gave me for Bali.
wink.gif
.. Managed to find one that quoted me abt $700 for 2 location shoot+ MU + CD (all images) + 20 page magazine.. it was a really a good deal but my hubby finds JB BS is more worth it..

JB BS has 5-6 change of costumes + MU + outdoor only $1-1.2K SGD.. he prefers to pay a little more for all the perks.. I was so looking forward to the PS in Bali..
uhoh.gif
...i even to get my gown from D’sire.. It was a steal too @ only $600..
biggrin.gif
...and now he doesn’t want to do it.. haiz…
sad.gif
... well actually he is just lazy to take pic in BALI lah.. wanted to really rest and relax and the thought of lugging the wedding gown and suit to BALI is a pain.. hahha..
lol.gif
.. Anyway, i had my digicam with me so i went berseak taking lots of pics.. lots of candid moments lah..
crazy.gif

Babli>> Looks like u have the preparation going well.. such a pity, 7 july will be nice day to get wed.. but anyway.. still getting married in this year right.. at least u have more time now to work on the preparation… anyway, I saw in other discussion threads abt Holiday Inn Parkview.. they mentioned the service not very good.. u need to choose ur venue carefully.. Anyway, hope u manage to confirm SSC for the AD venue..
wink.gif

Angelic Gal >> Spoke to Nasir 2 weeks ago.. heard u managed to sign him up.. that’s good.. and dun worry abt his work.. he is a very patient and cool person..
wink.gif
.. I’m sure he will do an excellent job for ur photoshoot and AD..

PB>> Congrats..! Wat a wonderful surprise for all.... New member in the family so soon !! I think ur in-laws muz be very pleasant.. mine are bugging me already.. haiz..
lol.gif

Hi Jeinthi>> I did not understand the part abt the HD video camera and the old DV standard video.. wat is the difference? I got mine from Nasir which is in DVD disc format..
uhoh.gif

Btw, where is ur venue anyway? For deco, it depends on the location, usually people will opt for white/champaign gold, or maroon with cream.. the advan garde ones will pick blue and silver..
wink.gif

Anyway, for mattresses, Do u have any brand that u are looking for?.. u can check the yellow pages for the factory outlets in Sungei Kadut and Eunos/Ubi…Agreed that Sg Kadut is very big.. easier they have 40-50 furniture dealers there…since u dun have car, then Furniture mall @ Beach Road the Plaza and IMM Jurong is a better choice to scout around.. walking is a lot simpler.. Some of the factory outlet in Sungei Kadut also have their showroom in this 2 Malls as they know that getting to the factory outlets are inconvenient.. Actually, Changi has some warehouses regularly having sales...check straits times for ads...
happy.gif

My friends recommend some of these shops
vhive http://vhive.com.sg/product_main.html
star furniture http://www.starf*rn.com/
The Green, Brighton, Nova at A to Z building ( but some say salespp too pushy), Novena , some shops at Defu Lane

** BUT U can expect the salespp there to be very pushy..
uhoh.gif

As for Sg Kadut.. most major stores are there (Aerofurnishing, Novena, Star Furniture, Castilla, Red Apple, etc )

Oh yeah I saw the furniture warehouse (which is under star furniture) having sales for their furniture and mattresses.. can go and check it out. They have branches in Upper Thomson Road (Nearby Lower Pierce Reservoir), at ODC Districentre Level 1 (opp. IMM Building) and Sungei Kadut Avenue

My uncle recommended this..
Avanni Design Pte Ltd ,74 Sg Kadut Loop Singapore 729513 Tel: 6369 3483
Take a MRT to yew tin then try to get a cab.. should be ok.

Think they open till 7pm daily. The building is like a a white MANSION looking huge building or CASTLE out of nowhere, cant miss it.. Go in from the side gate at Sungei Kadut Loop (no main gate i think, the side gate also is the place where car drive in). turn left when u walk in through the gate, up a slope. Walk all the way inside you will see the Avanni signboard then take lift up.

But If you go in from gate and walk straight, there is another furniture store which is totally different from avanni. (not so good according to my uncle)

Sales Staff.. Look for Yoke Khee, male., there’s other sales staff.. think they are all helpful. Solid product knowledge, non-pushy service attitude. He can serve u for 1-2hrs, if u dont buy, he wont complain or say anything. really top class. My friend just went there last week and commented the furniture quality is not bad and price reasonable.

Buying a bed needs lot of careful thoughts to it as it can cause sleepless nights and body ache.. Furthermore, a mattress is the next biggest investment next to your wardrobe for the bedroom…here’s some of my person advices when selecting a bed..
wink.gif

1. U should lie down on the mattress and feel for yourself which one you prefer. Don’t just use ur hands and press on the mattress.. U can’t tell if it’s good or not… both of U should lie on both side of the bed to check comfort level and make sure there’s no disruption when either party gets up.

2. Latex Mattress is a little better than Memory foam.. Memory foam and Visco-elastic foam mattress will trap heat.. natural latex provides support where it is needed most by contouring to the body's natural nuances. Some say it relieves pressure points, particularly at the shoulders and hips, and it allows for better circulation with less tossing and turning. It gives a deeper, more restful slumber. Latex is naturally a resilient and durable material, if the mattress uses good latex, they can last as long as 20 years or more. ( this one was told by salepp, u can verify again if it’s true)

For those who struggle with allergies, natural latex is naturally hypoallergenic, and anti-microbial: This means that u don’t need to worry abt molds, mildew, and dust mites that may help trigger allergies .. I heard of this brand GETHA which produce good latex mattress. U can try that if u are interested.

3. if you want cheaper mattress, dont go to simmons or slumberland as those are too expensive.. sungei kadut has ample choices, all located near each other, u just need to spend a day walking and shop around….

4. Branded mattresses are better in most cases since you dont have to worry too much about the quality of the material. Its better to make a decision once you lie down on the mattress and see which one you prefer. You might have to benchmark your back comfort vs cost of mattress though,
wink.gif

5. Most of the mattress stores have the poster bed frame.. Canpoy style is nice and romantic but for new flats which has low ceiling, it is not feasible.…I got my country cottage poster bed from Furniture Mall, same shop I bought the water bed..

Good luck in ur bed hunting..
happy.gif

Raspberriez >> hi again.. emailed u some pic of Khalsa and a few of my MU pic (the one tat I confirmed) as well as my AD MU pic.
wink.gif
... I took with my camera, pardon the pic.. I took with one hand..

Piggy >> Sounds like u had a great honeymoon in Maldives.. totally agreed on the nice scenic view.. I hope ur first born would be MADE IN MALDIVES.. hahaha
lol.gif

Lavani >> Hi gal.. welcome to the club.. ur wedding itinerary is really packed.. can really salute u to have to go thru 3 events in a day.. I think it’s not too late for any preparation so long u are focused and on top of it starting from now… I was worse.. I only started my prep in late Nov when my wedding was in March.. so don’t fret.. anyway, we are all here to help..
wink.gif

So u are having the customary ceremony in the temple in the morning I suppose.. then I think it’s quite easy for to get the décor done.. can approach the riverwalk tandoor for the food and décor can be arranged by them.. they do package it if u want.. if not, vanan from Pandora and Guna wedding services can do it .. my other contact Raju can help as well.
happy.gif

thanks Joelle for your advises. quite busy today to reply earlier since its mon.

my church is at Beach Road, sun was at funiture mall. Found a poster bed at $1200 w/o mattress, shop was willing to neg further but still undecided now to get a good mattress/fabric bedframe or go for poster bed with normal mattress.

found 2 mattresses which i liked; one from Takashimaya - > Serta - perfect night double plush, so far love this very much as its very very soft to lie on and feel comfortable. lost the deal as he quoted $2800 and i wanted for $2600.

Sealy -Royal Monarch -> $2061 w/o bedframe -> less soft but good support for the back and was told used by most hotels in spore eg. four seasons etc.

still checking for better deal. i told my hubby call him and ask the shop person -> deal or no deal ;->

furiture wise - most of the sales out there is bluff. if its cheap the quality is cheap also and clearing old stock. so far i trust few shops like Brighton etc.

DV is lower resolution, quality of color is lesser filesize is smaller also. HD is new technology, i bought HD samsung TV so i want better color resoution for High Definition output. u may want to search the net for a better explanation than this. in short, its like 4 M pixel camera and 12 M pixel camera kind of effect difference. dun know how to explain dear. but HD cost more due to more editing work and file size etc. Generally DVD is good enough but who want a black and white tv when there is color tv ;-> cos once your work is in DVD u cant convert to HD i think.

Jeinthi - Re mattresses, most of the non-shopping mall shops, like those in Sungei Kadut or Hommage at (Blk 263 Serangoon Central) have good deals and a wide selection. They will sell at around the same 'sale' price which is still a controlled price. You may be able to save by negotiating the price of the bed frame tho.

The shopping malls like Taka sell at the recommended retail price so you will not enjoy the same savings as these smaller shops.

i bought my mattress from this place called Morris Lifestyle at 31 Admiralty Road. They let me get a faux leather bedframe at a ridiculously low price after some haggling.

thanks brokenbudgie, yes found a few interesting facts about these controlled pricing and model name/variations which defers by these retailers. looking for a nice bedframe still and undecided as i read some bad remarks for serta mattresses here in the forum. i might decide for sealy. which mattress u got? waiting this weekend and vesak or the GSS Sale to check a good deal. hope i didnt miss the good deal at taka.

Hello every1! I am soo glad I found this thread.I have been reading the posts and it has been helpful..thanks

My wedding is scheduled this Dec and only managed to confirm the venue for the dinner reception last sat . It is on 30 Dec at Khalsa L2..
Managed to tk a peek at the deco last sat for a wedding reception..the colours and set up were really good

other than the venue booking , nothing else has been done yet and am really panicking now..
The wedding is going to be held in India so have to source for the MUA and other stuff both here and there..Shanti seems to be quite popular ..any idea how much will the trial be?Thanks

poster bedframe will look bulky so may not go for that. Thinking of fabric bedframe like those Serta models with bench. how much u spent for your Autorest mattress ? is it anti dustmite?

Hi everyone...just to share with you all...if your looking for printing of cards, try not to consider Chakra Printers...Some of the problem with their cards...some staint cards..ink is not consistant...alignment is not good..Sample card will be different from actual card (Unbold words will be bold in actual card)...

Hi Girls,

this is my first post, posted a msg before but it didnt show up. congrats to all of you.

was just wondering how much it would roughly cost to hold a wedding in a gurudwara?

wedding is to be in singapore but we are in aus at the moment and finding it hard to find info from the net.

also my fiance's family is against the wedding so they wont be coming :'( so we are organising everything ourselves.
appreciate all the info I can get. thanks heaps..

Hey Joelle ..
Got your email .
Thanks for making an effort to resend it .
Oh yes i have added you. You look soo pretty !
keke

Hey samiya! Welcome...
to what i know...a simple gurudwara wedding can be held for about $500-$1000..just curious..is ur fiance a sikh? coz if he is not..its not too easy to get it done in a gurdwara here...btw..am sorry bt the situation..i faced the same opposition but pray hard and stay strong..u never know they may just get over it!
All the best!

ooh, i just realised i made a typo. My mattress is Orthorest, not Autorest..!
happy.gif

Samiya - welcome to the forum. i'm sure his family will come round one day and accept that you guys love each other very much.

babli, thank you for that.....

My fiance is punjabi(sikh) and I am tamil, also Im singaporean and he is aussie.

did you mean that if both people to be married were not sikhs than they cant get married in a gurudwara????

if that is so, he is going to be very disappointed.
his family is against him marrying me:'(

brokenbudgie, thank you... I hope that they will accept me one day too, but it doesnt look like it.

hey samiya, my fiance's punjabi too and i'm chinese. after my parents' initial reservations, we're one big happy family now.
p.s. what is it about punjabi men that make them so irresistible!
happy.gif

Hi Samiya, inter-racial marriages r v ery common. Depending wic gurudwara u'd like to get married at you have many ppl offering assistance. Do not worry abt the gurudwara, your worry is havin someone to organise. Do you know any sikh, family fren, someone in Singapore who can help you wid bookings, etc.

You sure can get married in a gurudwara if one of you is a sikh. All the best gal.

If you need help you can approach the temple committee.

Babli is rite...you can have a simple wedding from $500-$1000. This wld mean food prepared in the temple. Family and frens will have to go a day earlier to help with the preparations, like washing, cutting and set-up, etc.

Other option is catering wic can lighten ur pockets...$8-$15 per head.

Hope this helps. Will keep reading and do ask anything to clear doubts, we r a helpful bunch
happy.gif

piggy, thank you so much for that info. appreciate it
happy.gif

you are abosultely right about finding someone to organise things.... its quite a hard situation, coz he has no support from his family.

At the moment we are thinking of making a trip to spore during oct, so we are going to make all the arrangements and bookings in person.

also I only have been to one sikh temple in my life and that was the golden temple in punjab. I have no idea yet abt the gurudwaras in spore.

see the thing is that his family is sikh and they wont be coming.... so I dont know what has to be done in a sikh wedding so I am still figuring that out slowly over the net. fiance has explained the ceremony.

the sikhs also have a henna and bangle ceremony right? but i presume that can be held anywhere?

will post more questions as I come across them.
are you punjabi? thanks again.

brokenbudgie
happy.gif
irresistible? yes i have to agree... but it could be something about us too right ;)

having lived in aus for 10 years, everyone expected me to end up with a white man, but a brown man it is.....haha
are you having a sikh ceremony?

Hey samiya..piggy is rite..we will help as much as we can...i am punjabi sikh..my fiance's sindhi hindu...we're gettin it done in a Gurdwara in Jakarta coz apparantly in the Gurdwara we checked out here...the boy has to be sikh to carry out the wedding...i dunno bt the rest of the gurdwaras but this was told to my father-in-law by the in-charge of the Wilkinson Rd Gurdwara..so i really am not too sure bt the other ones..but u can try..i doubt u will have any problems..i know alot of inter-racial marriages that take place in Gurudwaras here too...
The bangle and henna ceremony can be carried out anywhere, even in your home...thats not a problem..are your family members cool with the wedding and willing to help? also..u can check out the rites and customs involved in a sikh wedding easily from the net...even i did not even know some of rites myself...heres a webbie u can try:
http://www.sikhs.org/wedding/

All the best gal!

Hi Samiya, the date for our temple ceremony has been booked by his parents but we don't know yet if we want to go through one. Odd situation, but we wanted to keep the entire wedding non-religious. Even if we do, we'd still have to go to the temple post-wedding for blessings. Apart from this, we're keeping the other traditions so in a sense i'll still be an Indian bride like with the sangeet, henna and Indian outfits etc. A cross cultural wedding also allows us to have a Chinese tea ceremony with his parents..

hey Samiya,

Here's my 2 cents worth...From what i know, u may face some difficulty in having your wedding in a Gurudwara if either one is not a Sikh. A few male relatives of mine have married a non Sikhs and in order for the wedding to take place according to Sikh rites, the brides had to sort of go through a 'baptism' process. You may have to check on this. Different Sikh temples here have slightly different policies...

If his immediate family is not attending the wedding, who is from his side? Any Sikh relatives from his side in Singapore to help you? Have you considered having a Hindu wedding instead?

And yes, the henna/bangle ceremonies can take place anywhere and are usually carried out in the bride's home..The bangle ceremony usually involves the bride's maternal uncles & brothers...

hey, if anyone's looking for a Justice of Peace to solemnise their wedding, we met up with ours, a French-Canadian gentlemen called Pierre Paul Gaudette aka Brother Emmanuel, last night. He had a good sense of humour, gave good advice and took the time to explain the vows. He's quite elderly but still very sharp. I highly recommend him if you want someone who speaks English well, add a touch of humour and make your ceremony even more meaningful.

hey babli.... since the fiance is sikh then maybe there would be no problems with the gurudwara... well thats what I am hoping anyway.
also thanks for the website... my family is great and are helping alot... although mum and dad are worried about me marrying into a family that does not want me..
its been really hard coz as indians of course we hear about parents being against inter religious marriages all the time but when it really happens in your own life, you feel so helpless. but hey who said life was meant to be easy huh? wish you all the best.

hi SK, well my fiance is sikh so maybe it will be ok with the gurudwara??
we are having a hindu wedding as well and I initially felt that there was no need for the sikh wedding but fiance wants one. he says that he was born sikh for a reason and so yeah so we are trying to make it happen.
My dad's best friend is a sikh and i have been thinking abt approaching him to help us so yeah things will wait until we make a trip to singapore.

hey gals,

oh shoot...I have been focusing so much on the traditional weddings that I have totally forgotten about the actual sloemnization of the marriage at ROM. should just change my username to dumbdumbbride.

any info on marrying foreigners? the ROM website only mentions malaysians with work permits?

what about marrying other nationalities? would it be the same as the usual process? appreciate any info.... thanks heaps

Hey samiya...had to fight my way through to get accepted too...it took lots of tears, sacrifices..even separation...it took me 2 years to convince them..just pray hard...n keep faith n if he is meant to be yours..nothing can ever stop it...

Hey Angelic..have a suggestion..why dont u buy fabric...u can get lots at Arab Street or even Joo Chiat and get it sewn exactly the way u want it? You can easily buy fabric within 50 bucks..and it will be sewn according to your size? The fabric in the pics look like satin which is readily available in so many different colours..If not... maybe you can try Daniel Yam? I love his gowns...or even try Marina Square..there are some shops there which sell evening gowns..am not too sure bt prices though but have seen some nice ones in the display.its on the first level of Marina Square...Oh and Taka too...Hope this helps...

Kismet- Hey gal..all the best and have a ball!!! Btw..i got SSC for my ROM + Sangeet! YAY! hahha

To the rest...hope everything is goin great!

Hi yen, are u Japanese? try Jewel Palace, buffalo road 2nd level or Hannifa textiles, serangoon road, dunlop st, lots of shops in Little India area.

Hi Angelic Gal....i can recommend a designer who can do such dresses. Cost not too sure. His name is Dennis contact no. is 91301488. You can tell him ur budget and discuss designs & material, etc with him. He works from home in Woodlands. Have seen some pretty nice dresses at his place...dunno if it's for rental. You can call him and meet up.

Cheers Dal
