Hi Och and Bluechin - I've made arrangements to go view the function rooms this sat. Prob will also take a look at their wedding cards as well. But I like the idea of designing our own card, it's prob more personal and meaningful and most importantly, it adds into the whole fun of wedding preps, doesn't it?

i think it's just a matter of arrangement (just my personal opinion), u can always spread the tables out, if it still looks like there's too much space, shift the stage to the ballroom's centre (aka DBS commercial!), so that'll "push" the tables outwards, and fill up spaces lor!

But i think the real problem would be getting hyatt to agree.... if it's too much of a hassle, why not consider stamford (only ballroom at it's level), or hibiscus (pretty and sweet)... my 2 cents worth...

Tam : GH's card's quite plain... and u will also need to contact a printer on yr own for the printing details. They just provide paper for ya...

Since they say they will be changing the cards, u could wait till then to decide.

Do u think Gh will be able to give u the Grand Ballroom? Think they have a minimum... u could try asking though....

Sam : i too feel that it's very personal and meaningful to do up yr own cards....

Do keep us updated on the renovation okay.... I'm using the Grand Ballroom.

bluechin, i got assigned anthony wee. he's a v. nice guy n v. prompt with replies. when he says he will call with an answer, he actually calls the next day, all the time.

i agree that wedding gift shop has some designs that r nice but really quite expensive. think it's bcos their designs r liberal in the use of ribbons n tracing paper. even their printing is a bit more expensive, but i still got them to print my cards, since they r more meticulous in designing the wordings n hv a lot of cartoons.

i think most pple will just dump the cards, so there's no need to spend a bomb on cards. but it's a good n relatively painless way of personalising the wedding. if we dun make our own cards, i think we would bore ourselves to death with an all-commercial wedding.

if u r interested in getting cards fr them, it's possible to source for ur materials n getting them to print.

i think the grand ballrm will look a bit empty with only 25 tables. i've seen a setup with 35 tables n it looks ok, but i thot it's already on the low side. there is a gd 5-6 metres of empty space at the back of the ballrm.

u can ask to look at their invitation cards anytime. i took a look when negotiating my contract, before i decided to trade away my cards. there r 2 designs, a pink one with bells n a ivory one with some abstract design.

Not a really big problem actually.... Just that my boss was being a little demanding....

Thanks goodness, everything's fine now and i managed to get my day's leave for my PS.

It was becos he needs to fly off to Japan for a meeting and usually when he's away he will insist that i'm around. I called up my studio only to realise that the next slot they can give me is September which is too close to my wedding in November.

Eventually i had to apologise to my boss to gain my leave.....

And to think i reminded him a month ago and he says ok, a week ago and he says good and when i submitted my leave form he says i didn't inform him in advance....

He can be really forgetful....and he also said i thot u took yr PS pics already, how about the albums u shown me the other time....guess wat i said "Mr XXX, The albums were my ROM pics".

Actually he's a good boss, just demanding at times when he's stressed.

i dun intend to get wedding gift shop to do the printing for me cos i heard they approach other printers to print resulting in a higher cost.

I've also found my printer which produces my likes and also have many of the designs that wedding gift shop have.

I've also spoken to the WGS owner several times months back when i was sourcing.... She's nice!
But just that my hubby prefers the other printer....

I've not called GH for sometime.... do not know who's taking over for me. Only know the last time eileen told me it's Lavina which i didn't call yet....Hope i could switch coordinator too!

I was just informed by my coordinator that i need to top up 2% gst! When earlier on, she said no need, 'cos management didn't set any directives to raise price... feel a little cheated...

yep, their printing cost is higher. but since i got the ribbons fr them, theirs is a one stop for me.

lavina is the director, she doesn't do coordination work anymore. if u call her, she'll look for a coordinator for u. i think u should call them soon. november is only 4 months away.

tam, i think it's okie! u can have usherers to direct guests to the right ballroom, even if u dun have enough time to inform all guests abt the change... shdn't be a big problem, right?

Still dun understand why GH can only allow change in ballroom 1 week beforehand... as if they can really sell the ballroom 2 weeks before???

ok, wat i heard from my coordinator is that u can request for the change 3mths before, in fact they ever had a couple who book with them only 6mths before, and they got the grand ballroom with 35tables (of 'cos they were lucky that it's still available, it's prob not a popular date, so GH relent on its minimum no. of tables... u may have lesser bargaining power since u've already signed the contract, but they also can't afford to offend u and risk losing a few tens of thousands of business revenue??) Pardon me if i seem too quarrelsome...

As for hard liquor, better prepare in case lor, but u probably can estimate how many guests are likely to drink hard liquor, your parents can do a gauge for your relatives, and u know whether your own frens/colleagues drink or not, right? Hee hee, think i'm not helping much here...

Oh yes, wat abt those frens who want to make the groom (and maybe bride too) drunk??? Some guests will ask for hard liquor, not just for themselves but as a toast for the wedding couple as well... hee, how i wish all my guests will be well-behaved! wat do u all think, if we don't serve hard liqour at all, maybe they cannot make us drunk then??

hi natalie, i think pple tend to restrict drinking tricks on the groom nowadays, so u r spared.

my hubby is allergic to alcohol, a can of beer is enuf to trigger his allergies. since everyone knows that, i doubt we will be made to drink a lot. i'm more afraid they will make my hubby drink weird stuff, like the chilli sauce, green chilli, soya sauce, wasabi, coke, sprite in red wine concoctions his colleagues like to make. after drinking that junk, top off with a raw egg.... yucks!

Yes it's fun! Had changed into seven different outfits.....

I went to several back alleys near Tanjong Pagar area in the late morning, early afternoon before studio shooting with my studio evening gown and my own ROM gown.

After studio shooting about 6 plus we went to Marina South. Even had to lie on the grass then. hee....so many insects.....

Then we went to Boat Quay stretch.... The Fullerton Bridge etc. Initially wanted to go several other places but lack of the time to do so. Everything ended at almost 8 plus nine.... reached home about 9.30pm....

Also realised the photographer's a good friend of my uncle's.....Now i'm worried about the output of the pics...... Thought i blink my eyes quite a bit..... but the photographer says i didn't really.... He says my hubby's behaving very well and i'm photogenic....hee!

hi pf, i like hyatt's ambience. i think it's a kind of ambience i hvn't found in other sg's hotels: simple, yet elegant. food-wise, i've heard comments ranging fr average to gd. since i booked a yr ago, my package price may be rather outdated, but my market survey then reflected that the price is fair for a 5-star. no hotel was offering all the items we need in their basic package, so we based our comparisons on how much the banquet will cost after including all the items we need. our conclusions was that hyatt was still cheaper per pax than other 5-stars with acceptable ambience n reviews, e.g. four seasons, conrad etc. i guess it really depends on what u r looking for in the wedding venue. my priorities r on ambience n food. hubby's was on convenience. all of these hyatt offered n it was going for a fair price. so to us, it's a package worth its price.

I agree with Och that i'm into the ambience that Grand Hyatt can offer.... i like the location of the hotel too... at least not many ppl will have trouble looking for the hotel.... The food from the feedback i have heard of is that it ranges from average to good just like wat Och says too....

Price wise.... i find it very reasonable for a five star hotel.....

I did consider Four seasons however their ballroom can't accomodate 45 tables or more.....

Just to answer your query, when I had my wedding in Hyatt in jan this year.. I exchanged the wedding cards for $100 off the food tasting cost. That's the maximum that they gave me cos to them the cost of wedding cards is pretty negligible not comparable to food tasting.

I also got a 20litre barrel of beer and a day-use room for my helpers.

hi ram, usually, if it's not in the contract, it will be difficult to make the switch lor... bcos the cards r bought in bulk n cost v. little to hyatt, whereas food tasting cost a lot more. something like sashes for all chairs is probably easier to get. or u can try what toastie did, get some amt off the food tasting price.

bluechin, guess i was too busy and miss out your earlier thread on your PC. oic, yr wedding is less than half year from now! you must be very excited n nervous. i hv not seen yr pics so my advice as follows is not meant to be personal -- do some situps ( i try to do it 50 times at least once in alternate days - it works!) and drink bird nests, or chicken essence, go for facials etc.

hmm.. for myself on top of the above, i also try to be less stressed by work...

Thanks for yr suggestions....will try them...as for facials i dun think i will be going..... dun really like them and have seen ppl getting worse skin after facials.... My colleagues think i have good and nice skin therefore will not need any facial for now.....i think i will stick to spa treatments and massages....hee
