urgently need recommendations on who is easier n better to talk to in hyatt. pm me if not convenient to post here... appreciate very much

Hi

find that hibiscus rm abit small to pur projector and screen...

did/does anyone thot of putting projector & screen in the foyer/recep area.. and show montage/ day video before dinner...dunno if it looks wierd??...

hi Ribena,

I'm now down to 2 choices, & Grand Hyatt is one of it... have to decide by this wk... personally, I prefer the whole feel of Grand Hyatt. Can share/advise me on your experience with them? my e-mail is [email protected]. Thanks

hey bigtoes/ limay

Thanks for sharing abt how you exchanged your invite cards for an extra nite's stay at the hotel cos I juz spoke to my coordinator abt not needing champagne and invite cards and what the hotel could offer in exchange. He said he could give us another nite's stay at the suite or a night's stay in their standard room that either set of parents can stay in. I wouldn't know how to negotiate for that if not for your post! So, thanks!

And if anyone is looking at grand hyatt as a possible wedding venue, do look for Andy who's my coordinator. He's really nice and very helpful. Even in cases where he couldn't acede to our requests, he would explain to us and we understood. As much as possible, he would try to accommodate all requests. I think he's fantastic! =O)

Hey Skybebe,
Welcome! My coordinator also happens to be Andy. He has been pretty accomodating & helpful to us as well, no complains there!

Hi Gals,

has anyone tried asking your co-ordinators to throw in wine corkage? cos somehow, seems like squeezing blood out of them when we asked.. not sure what the norm is... and I got a shock when they said must pay for the sample dinner thingy.. any comments on that?

Hi,

They are quite ok and flexible in everything. only thing which not so flexible as compare to other hotel is they do not hv free flow of beer, free video montage, and entertainer at the receiption, like band.

I also find that the floral arrangement given is abit limited too.

Morning Gals!!

Casy, i personally find Hyatt deco quite nice already..compared to some of the other hotels that i went to. I even thought of asking Hyatt florists to help me boost up the deco should i decide on the other hotel...heheh...

As for the entertainers, i think most hotels don provide that unless u pay additional right? It's quite ex to get entertainers, pianist, harpists, etc.

U confirmed with Hyatt already?

Shellz, i was also quite surprised when i first talked to Hyatt. For the food tasting, they wouldn't give way to that. Must pay
sad.gif

hi girls,

yup, food tasting must pay. i was initially v surprised... but try as i may, cldn't get them to budge on that!

wow! casy, which hotel provides band free?? *curious*

shellzzz, i think corkage quite hard to get them to waive, unless u exchange something else in the pkg for that.

Hi girls, yah - the corkage is a bit on the high side, but their wine is reasonably priced (from $17+++) so we are getting wine from them. Tried a couple of the wine, not too bad..Saves us the trouble anyway, wont have the issue of running out of supply or ending up with too much after the wedding since its from the hotel itself
happy.gif

Wah...the wine from Hyatt is very reasonably priced. Just abt the same price as what u get from outside.
Indeed can save the hassle of buying ourselves.

Hi gals

Just to share some of my thots, prob a difft perspective on Grand Hyatt's stand on not giving freebies....

I am actually q. glad Grand Hyatt is firm about not giving freebies cos the way I understand how some commercial companies work is that even though it appears that they can give you many freebies, but at the end of the day, they still have to attain a certain profit so they would give you perhaps a lower quality of another thing in the standard package in order to provide that additional freebie. The fact that Grand Hyatt stands firm on not giving freebies means that they do not intend to perpetuate such unethical conduct exercised by other companies.

All couples who book with Grand Hyatt can also be rest assured that the no. of freebies given to them are not determined by who their coordinator is becos everyone who books with Grand Hyatt gets the same package.

I understand however that if you have many tables with them that it seems rather rigid that they won't provide free food tasting. Would they be willing to give you something else instead of free food tasting, due to the no. of tables you've booked with them?

I wish all of you the very best!

Hi skybebe,

I agree with you. For example, some other hotels around the same price range may give you food tasting (some even only give 6 dishes for 6 person), then they 'charge' you back in other ways.

BTW, did you sign up with Hyatt already? When is your AD?

Hi everyone,
I'm a recent ex-hyatt bride and my banquet was on a sunday at the Hibiscus ballrom. Here's some of my comments and personal advice. Hope it helps!

1) The food is really quite good. Well, that's according to my guests lah. They like the steamed prawns and the dessert! They commented that the prawns are very fresh and the mango pudding dessert extremely delicious! Oh yeah, the portion is good too.

2) I personally like hibiscus ballroom then SSR. I think the ceiling is a bit higher in HB than SSR. Also I also prefer the gold theme than the SSR greenish theme.

3) The sound systems at HB is quite good too at least to me.
happy.gif
It can play downloaded internet songs ( wave format) and the captain of the day can tune the sound system to get rid of some of the distortion from the cds. So, thumbs up for that! We did not rent the projector from Hyatt as our AD photographer provided that for us. So, if you're getting your projector from outside, do test out the connection and the laptop before the wedding.

4) It's true that there's not much selections for the flower arrangment. Some of the nice ones you have to top up money and we're not willing to do that. In the end, we chose the glass bowl with bronze wire and assorted orchids and it turned out quite classy.
happy.gif
For VIPs we chose the tall vase and dancing ladies flowers which was really a bad choice! It blocked our multimedia presention from certain angle in the ballroom.
sad.gif

5) Not too sure if there's a hiccups on my 1st march-in or what, the lightings were a bit too bright and also there's nothing special during the 1st dish being served. So, may be you all should check with ur coordinator on this.

6) Well, we got free flow of beer, free corkage of wine and some other freebies. I guess got all these because we booked the package during their promotion. We did negotiate for things like alternate sash, ribbons to tie on the napkins, etc and we got it! So, I guess it really depends on how flexible your coordinator is! Oh yeah, though we got free corkage of wine, we din bring in any because it's difficult to estimate how many cartons to buy. So in the end, we just bought them from hyatt. We got a carton from them and subsequently we were charged per bottle basis. We have 21 tables and only consume abt 26 bottles. We only served the wine when the dinner started. So i guess that's probably helped us saved! hehe..

Well, overall, I would say we're pretty satisfied with Hyatt!

Hi Circusbugs,
Thanks Thanks
happy.gif
. Hope yours will be a fantastic one as well!

Heheh...actually I've created a thread to share my photos in the thread " A place to share your ROM ..". Is your PM activated? I can PM you the links..

Oraia & Bugbear

Marriot and Regent got band in their package, only during reception.

But when come to compare, their prices are about there. the most extra more by a few hundred dollars. now very confuse to whether take Marriot, Regent or Hyatt..Sigh..

I like regent quiet place, and their attitude is good. but not the ballroom.

I like marriot ballroom, but not the food, and inflexible too.

I like hyatt flexbility, but not the deco and freebies.

Don't worry i just meet up with one of the manager. food tasting can be free must cho cho them abit.they are really very flexible.

Hi Karen

Yup, I paid the deposit yesterday and my AD is 30 June 2004. We had actually wanted the garden wedding at Grand Hyatt but too many uncertainties, like would it be windy enough, would the music be too loud (there is noise restriction), and the area was segmented into 4 corners so eventually we chose Hibiscus Room but had to pay surcharge cos we are only having abt 16-18 tables. We didn't want Camellia room cos there were pillars but when I went to take a look at the set-up last Sat, I thot the room was done up really nicely! =O)

When is your AD and which room are you using for your dinner?

Hi Marilyn - CONGRATS!
bounce.gif

I am sure u are glad that all the planning & worrying is now over & u can start enjoying ur married life with ur hubby!!
Btw, my wedding is next month in the SSR. Picked the steam prawns & mango pudding as well..hehe...u really did get a good deal eh? Our's is not on a free flow basis for the wine (free 30L only) and there is corkage for the wine.

Can u share ur pix with me? My PM is not activated, but u can email me the link: [email protected] Thanks!

Hi Skybebe,

Mine is 5th Dec 05 at Hibiscus, long time more. I should be able to fit 25-27 tables, hopefully can squeeze to 25. I don't like big weddings and love the cosy feeling of that room.

hi bigtoes,
Thanks thanks!
happy.gif
And yes, quite happy with my coordinator and my banquet package. I guess we're really lucky cos we booked it quite last minute and Hyatt happened to have a promotion during that time. We booked the ballroom in March this year and our wedding was in Oct. We super lucky right? Futhermore it's a weekend and it's in chinese 8th month!

Okie, i already sent the link to you
happy.gif

Hey Marilyn, wow...yah, lucky lucky
happy.gif
we booked our's in Aug 2003 for the wedding in Dec 2004!

Thanks for the pix! Am still looking thru them..i have some of my own too...scanned the pix we selected & hubby did up his own album. The BS album will only be ready this weekend.

hi skybebe,

I also taking hibiscus but on 13th march 05. i have 18 tables only.. at the moment.. u can tell your coordinator u really interested in that room and ask if u can have it with a min table of 18.. think u might get it... good luck to you!!

hey marilyn!!
Thankz for ur lovely picx.. and i will take note of your "advice" hehe.. who is ur coordinator?

hi bigtoes,
Ur hubby did his own album? DIY? Anyway, do share with us your BS album, k?

hi janey,
I replied your email :P oh yeah, just found out that my coordinator - Nafisah, have left hyatt..
sad.gif

Hi janey

Thanks. We did get the Hibiscus Room but had to pay a surcharge. Did you have to pay a surcharge for using the room cos you didn't meet the min. of abt 25 tables?

Hi Marilyn! Congrats to you and ur hubby. Your package is indeed very good bargain. Managed to get free flow! Can also share your pix with me??

Bigtoes...share some of your pix with us too
happy.gif

Hi Marilyn,

Congrats to u!!! woww.. ure package is a real cool deal! I'll try harder to jio jio them... hahaaa.. can I see ure pics too?? thanks!

Hi skeybebe
I pay for the surcharge to use Hibiscus room. I think about $20 more. I was told that min must be 20 tables for hisbisucus room. anything falls between 20 to 25, must pay surcharge of $20 per table

Hey bugbear - think u have seen my pix, and vice versa...remember cos u emailed me as "bugtoes"..hee
happy.gif

Marilyn - yah, we DIY-ed. Got the album from Peninsular Plaza & printed the pix at Photohub. Will have a look at the BS's wedding album this Sat..hopefully that will turn out nice!

hi ribena,

It's good that hyatt let you have the room by just topping 20+ per table!Actually, my 1st choice was Holiday Inn Parkview cos I fell in love with their chandelier and the ambience! The ballroom gave me a grand and victorian feeling and the cost per table was very reasonable but alas they don't even let me pay extra to close the partition to squeeze my 20 tables into a single room. The sales person attitude disappointed us and in the end we ended up with Hyatt. Think, it's really a blessing in diguise! No regret for having my dinner at Hyatt. In fact, what we paid hyatt is abt the same amount we were willing to top up for Holiday Inn Park View. Futhermore Hyatt is a 5 star hotel and much more convenient!

Circus_bugs and shellzz,
Have sent both of u the links!
happy.gif

Bigtoes,
Wah, very memorable to DIY your own wedding album :P Safe money and get self-satisfaction!
happy.gif

skybebe,

Oh.. i think mine is lunch banquet so can go down to 18 tables without paying extra... but u can try to ask them to let u have it mah.

I think if it is a weekday dinner banquet, they can be more flexible. If it is a weekend one, it will be a bit harder, cos they will think that there will be other potential customers. However, do try to bargain with them. You never try you never know.

Hi Janey and Ribena

Thanks. I've tried bargaining but to no avail. What they could offer was to give me a discount on the surcharge. Mine is a weekday dinner. Perhaps that's why no matter what, I couldn't not pay the surcharge?

Hi skybebe,

could it be because your date was an good one and they have other people with more tables asking for that room after you. so they are only willing to give you only if you pay surcharge.

Is your surcharge an upgrade of menu? I know some hotels allow less than minimum if you upgrade to better menu, but sometimes that is at least $50-80 +++ per table. So you have to determine which is more worth it to you.

Hi Circusbugs,
Thanks thanks for the compliments
happy.gif
..Ya manz.. took me a couple of days.. The "siong" part was to put in the comments..
happy.gif

Bugbear and ribena,
Check our mail!

Hiya Marilyn...Thanks for the link! Really a lot of photos there! I am only half done. Continue later. Really enjoyed your photos very much.

Which BS did u engage??

Bugbear,
Glad that my photos din bore you
happy.gif
My BS is a JB BS called SG Cover Look. We took their bali package. We did experience some unpleansant encounters with them but all were sort of forgiven when the album turned out quite nice..

Dear All,
So paiseh!

Here's my VIP table setting. The tall flowers is a bad choice is it'll block the multimedia presentation from certain angle in the ballroom.

Also the glass bowl with assorted orchids and a bronze wire.
