HI Moo,
Yay! So happy for you!!!

Went by GWP today to drop off something for Jeanie and I noticed that GWP is doing MAJOR renovations at their grand entrance (at the reception area). Looks terribe, at least from the outside where vehicles drop off their passengers. I hope this doesn't effect those having their wedding banquets there this time of year! I'm so glad mine's over!!

Anyway, tis the season to be merry! Have a great Christmas, everyone! And a fabulous 2006!

Hi all ex-GWP brides and future GWP brides,
I'm new here and excited that there are plenty of reviews about GWP (althought mostly are postive ones!)...
I've signed up with them too and my AD is in June 06. Yes, Jeanie told us that there's going to be a lot of renovation going around in phases. As for the Tudor Ballroom, I was told that they will likely replace the carpet.
happy.gif

And they're going to build a bigger ballroom to replace the Marquee (the tent).

Q: Excited to see how does the ballroom looked like when it is fully decorated, LS, can you send your pics to me? (LS, such a coincidence, I'm a BC bride wannabe too!) My add: [email protected]

Q: Previous GWP brides, can you advise which suites are the best?

Thanks & Merry X'mas!!

Hi cs pair

Glad that we chose gwp, no regrets
happy.gif

Welcome to the club! Heee...

I think it will be good if both of you go and take a look at the suite yourself. Different people look out for different things.
happy.gif

We will choose the smaller suite as my hubby finds it more cosy. It is nearer to Tudor Br too.

When will you choose your bridal gowns and etc? Got your lovenest?

Hi L.S. ,

Thanks for sharing your AD photos.
happy.gif

You went to GWP last Friday ? What time were you there ?

We were there too in the morning taking outdoor photos at the mainpool and Mayfair pool. We are back again in the afternoon to check in for the dinner.

Yup , there are renovations at the grand entrance. I think it helps in a way or another because the guests will think that the other entrance is the main lobby and they will not be confused. My guests definitely walk straight to the ballroom !

Hi L.S and eastlibra...

Hi L.S. and Gelaine ,

You've got mail.

My AD photos are not ready yet and I let you view my Studio and Outdoor pictures.

I can said after the wedding night , I feel dazed and need some time to re-organise myself back !

There is a good Christmas atmosphere around the hotel.
An advise to those who want to hold their wedding dinner at Orchard Road during the December Festive season :- You have to expect traffic jams and some guests will be late if they drive or take taxis. As for mine , it rain that night and the traffic is even slower.
Luckily , majority of the guests have arrived and I am able to start on time.

Dear all and eastlibra,

I am new here and my actual dinner is at 6th of June 2007. hee... i know it's a bit early to source for hotels now. Anyway, I love the nostalgic look of GWP. Any photos to share with me? Do you mind by sending the photos to [email protected].

And how's the food there like?

Hi LS,

Thanks for the pics! Can you tell me where did you go for your outdoor shoot? Did kit suggest the place or you decide?
happy.gif

Hi Moo,
I've just chosen my gowns 2 wks ago...hmm...now having 2nd thots as I felt my choice is a bit too safe...should have pick something more daring...
We went to view one suite, but Jeanie kept stressing that we may not be getting what we saw and it really depends on the actual day's stay-in guest numbers...so fingers crossed for me. I think I will follow LS' advise to pick a big big suite although it may be far from the ballroom.
Me now also lookin for photographer too...

Hi eastlibra,
Can share your pics? Me also need advise on photograher for AD. Also, can share your hiccups (need those pertaining to the hotel..hee..)? My email add [email protected]

Hi honeybear,
Welcome! Hee...you're really a bit early hor? But of course it is gd to start early. Prices are lower...start with the hotel first, then bridal package, then photographer...

Hi rest of GWP ppl,
Happy 2006 to you all!
Cheers!!!

CS pair,

We went to the Spottiswood Park area for the Peranakan homes. We love the look of the old Peranakan homes! Then, we let Kit take us to Marina. Would have preferred to have gone to Marina South for the beautiful "park-like" setting, but we didn't have enough time. Anyway,we had a wonderful time and I'm sure you will also!

Our suite at GWP wasn't big. It was nice and cosy, but not exactly "big" lah. Certainly a much nicer room compared to the suite they assigned to us at first. We had to request to be moved to another suite because we didn't like the 1st one. GWP accomodated our request and we moved. The suite was beautiful. A little small, but very beautiful! The previous suite was older and not as "nice".

Hi girls!

Was wondering if anyone of you had actually gone down to GWP to see a real wedding being held there.. Do you think it is a good idea? We actually have this plan to go down to see how the actual ballroom will be decorated.. helps us when we start our planning...

Also, anyone of you here has plan to forgo the video/ photo montage highlight? in place of that, does anyone have any other plan to entertain the guests?

apple,

My husband and I did visit GWP to see how the Tudor Ballroom was set up for a wedding dinner before our wedding. It was truly facinating. We felt that it added to our excitement and anticipation! It did indeed help us plan for our own banquet. So, how many tables are you expecting to host? We also gave the montage as well as videography a miss. No regrets. The ballroom was already jam packed with guests. Can you imagine what it would have been like with videographers hanging around with all their equipment?? The montage thing too. No, our guests certainly knew how to enjoy themselves without the montage.
happy.gif
There was so much positive energy radiating from the room when I walked in. It was so incredible!! SO very incredible! We did have musicians at our banquet. That added to the festive atmosphere, I suppose. And our MCs (2 of them) were terrific. The food was fantastic. Absolutely nothing went wrong that night. It was all smooth sailing. Almost as if we were in a movie! We also had dancing afterwards.

Hi LS,
Thanks for sharing with me your photo taking locations with Kit.
Hmm...I'm also thinking of doing a dance like yourself, what dance did you do? I suppose is Waltz? How long did you to take to master? Both of us are thinking of taking up Salsa, do you think is suitable?

cspair,
You are welcome! I so wanted a dance floor so our guests could dance!
happy.gif
We had 20 tables and a dance floor. No more tables could fit unless they went beyond the pillars. We had a very good time during our banquet. Didn't take up formal dance classes lah. Just slow dance which we already know how to do. Salsa sounds very exotic! Go for it! Add some spice to your celebration!

Hi Moo ,

Can I have your email address ?

By the way , have you got any photographer for your AD ? If you are interested , I can give you the contacts for my AD photographer. He is good in the sense that he is experienced in taking AD photographs and know all wedding customs , like Cantonese , Hokkien , Teochew and etc.. He can guide you along.

He is also a humourous guy and not boring at all.

Hi honeybear ,

You can look at the archives thread on Feb 2005. I have place some pictures of the bridal suites on the thread last year.

During my AD , the hotel has allocate me a suite at Tower Wing which is very near to the Tudor ballroom. It has a mini kitchen , a dining room and a living room. However , it has only one bathroom.

Hi CS pair ,

Do you have any recommendations from your friends or relatives for AD photographer ? It is better to look out for someone who is not only experienced in taking AD photos , but also on the wedding customs and practices. For my case , he is able to guide and advise me and my family on the normal stuffs to do on AD. He also gives me advise to make decision for late minute hiccups and changes.

What I experience for the hotel is that , they forgot to put our names on the signboard. We have to tell them and they do it last minute. As a result , some of our guests are confused and cannot find where we are. ( The hotel is also having another wedding dinner at the marquee ).
My advise is , it is better to put your Portrait there because it is good for your guests to find the actual wedding couple. ( GWP has 2 ballrooms now , it is possible that 2 wedding dinners are held at the same night ).

Hi Eastlibra,
Thanks for the photo link and above advice! Wow...your husband is so tall! So is your photographer Kit too? And who did your make-up for your studio/outdoor shot? Is it very tiring?
Can you give me your AD photographer's contact? My email is [email protected]

Hi LS,
Thanks for the dance tip. Will research a bit more and ask my in-laws and my parents for their views on the dance floor bit. Either maximise the no. of tables or 20 tables + dance floor...

Which band did you hire to sing/play music?

HI moo,
An uncle of mine coordinated the band matters. So, honestly, I don't know much about them except that they're good! We had 3 musicians - one violinist, 1 female singer and 1 male singer who also played the sax. They brought along a machine that created other musical "sounds". We couldn't have a full band (with drums, etc) because they would require 1 table space and we didn't want any tables beyond the pillars. Good luck!

Hi gals!
Me and my FH just decided GWP as our wedding venue for our Dec 06 wedding
kao_babydust.gif
, we will be using the new ballroom as we have about 30 tables.

Just need to check what kind of additional perks do you gals normally ask? Anyone here took their Georgian Collection package before? We are quite interested in that package since it will be slightly different than the normal Chinese wedding but still thinking 'coz the price different is quite a lot compare to the Victorian.

Hi,

Does anyone here know if Goodwood is good in terms of food as well as the ballroom? Eventhough I love the classical colonial ambience there, to be practical, I can't decide on them based on this.

Price wise, I am surprised that it's nett $688 (provided that my info is up to date)for weekends (planning for a Sat in Mar 07). This is certainly within my budget. But from what I see in the online brochure, the Tudor ballroom is rather small and the ceiling very low (something which I really hate). Btw, I need only around 20 tables.

If not for Goodwood, any good suggestions for hotels (only) in the >$600 <$700 price range? Food must of course be good, the ceiling high, the room pillarless and rather big.

Thanks!

cookiebunny

New Member
Hi Huiz,

I dont think your info is up-to-date.
From what I know their cheapest weekend package for end 2006-early 2007 is $838+++
Their new ballroom is pillarless and high ceiling but require min 25 tables.
