i just went to fairmont wedding and it was the worse wedding i have ever been to. I am also looking out for a wedding venue and was totally shocked at the treatment received when i visited one of my mum's friend's son's wedding.
okie here's my review.
went to fairmont, look at the name, swissotel, ok...should expect some kind of standard...full of expectations...go online check up ard $1220 nett, way too high for my budget so it was never one of my options.
there are at least 4 weddings held on the same floor. the wedding i went was at the corner so it wasnt an issue, couldnt say much about the other 3, haha...
predinner cocktail: they have this ice sculpture which we felt it was melting and a bit dirty. some strawberries and grapes at the bottom of the sculpture. no serviettes provided
seems like not enough servers to serve the drinks, we had to get ours at this counter where they fill the drinks, servers were a bit bochap, so we queued up. tables were messy, dont feel like taking any peanuts. usually i would pop a few in mouth
Went in, big squarish ballroom, not blockage. flowers on table has a weird dull colour, realise that it is individual serving hence there is no lazy susan turntable. no peanuts on table. hard to reach for condiments as you need to stand up and stretch hand to get it.
first dish: as usual, some majestic music and out come the first dish. on the first dish was this colour changing sphere which i felt was pretty cool. Then came all the nonsense
they left the entire plate of cold dish at the far end of the hall and not on the table. The servers had to do individual servings, meaning that every person will receive 1 salad prawn, some small squid, 1 sushi, etc which took a lot of time before the plate reached me. Everyone just look around at the servers and it took like 20mins for me to start my first dish after they start. The servers were all over the place and too busy to attend to the guest.
It became so bad that one of the uncles actually scolded the server standing next to me and told him that his whole table had no tea.
2nd dish came: waited for another 15 mins-20mins for them to serve. No sharks fin because fairmont wants to save the sharks so it is replaced by lobster meat, still pretty much the same but the wait was terrible and most of us received half a bowl of sharkfins. no such thing as extra bowl on the table. all gam gam ho. 2 vegetarians had to stare at us while they wait even longer for their vegetarian food
so this waiting repeated for every dish. usually, we would expect the servers to serve the food and attend to us if we need a refill of our drink but on that day, they were all over the place, we felt a bit stressed eating in that kind of environment and i had no chance to ask for a refill. either they ignore you or they were too busy for us. my brother had coke that was non gassy. eek
went to the toilet and my orange was taken away and they left a cup of tea on my table. anyway because of the long wait, food came to us cold. cold plate came to us warm, u guys get the idea....the ee mee was the only one that is hot.
so as you can guess, the dinner ended late. 10pm, we are still in the midst of the 9 course meal. each portion was really small. eg 3 small slice of chicken on a plate. it was quite jialut till it was amusing.
1115pm, guest starts to leave before the dessert is served. it was simply too late for people who are taking public transport or stay far away. The 2 vegans left the table. When the dessert came out , there were only ard 30% of people still in the hall. i just brought the dessert over to my table as i reckon that i would wait a long while again. half way through my dessert, amusingly, the servers delivered the desserts to the empty seats next to me even though it was obvious that they left.
all in all, we left at 11:40pm. no more parking coupon as the hotel only offered 10% coupons
okie....good points, near mrt, outside their toilet got armchair seats, nice name
