there is a direct bus from heathrow to stansted but the last bus leaves at about 12.30am and the bus terminal is a looooong walk away. make sure you factor in enough time for delays, etc.
our bmi flight from n. ireland was delayed for technical reasons and we arrived only at 11.55pm. the guy at the heathrow express counter told us that the last bus had left so we kinda lingered around wondering what to do next as our flight leaves stansted at 6.30am and there is no way we're taking a cab there. again i went to the counter and this time he told me that oh, there are some people who managed to call the bus company and there is a last bus leaving soon .. we checked our watch and there was like only 5 mins before it left so we had to run down a really long tunnel with 2 backpacks each and take the lift to the bus terminal. once there, we realised that we didn't have enough money to pay for the fare and the husband had to run back to the airport terminal to get money from atm while i stayed behind to stall the driver from leaving.
from that incident, the husband said he doesn't want to do budget anymore cos it's not good for his heart .. hahahah ..
