helo nana, having a % does not always mean its steriod. i guess every cream contains a certain % of a medicinal content. even for protopics, it contains X% of tacrolimus for example.

huh? how come NSC din allow u to do?? so funny one... is it coz its hand eczema and he helping u save money? whats his reason?

Hi BinBin,
I knew about the patch test for allergy. I knew some stuffs that I am allergy to. I don't like the patch test as you can't bath if done on yr back cos some of the patch need time. As for the blood test for allergy one is very expensive. Due to my stubborn and refused the dr ask me to find out myself what cause my trigger each time. Cos I will only see dr when the ezcema start to "cry" (weeping) very badly. The dr will not give me oral steriod cos he know I will refuse and he will have a hard time to ask me to take.
As for the cream, don't use the steriod cream for a long time. If you are prescribed with it and your condition is inflammed got no choice but got to use it. Cos steriod cream will help to subside the inflammation and redness. But always remember if the inflammation subside stop it. My house became a min pharamcy with all sorts of cream through my years of collection.

Hi,

Not sure if anyone tried Pinetarsol. My boy had severe ezcema when he was born. Saw many doctors even referrred to KK....prescribed with many types of creams and cleanser...we also bought many others via recommendation. None helped till we eventually saw a doctor at Glen E who recommended Pinetarsol. My child has been using it since and we can safely kiss ezcema good bye. Its like wood smell and he uses it to bathe....basically I do not give him anything that's soap. At times, when I have a bad rash, i also use pinetarsol and it helps. We even got 2 cartons back from Australia as it was cheaper from there. My son only uses pinetarsol and no other creams required.

Hi,

I got mine when i was 11 yrs old. Now i m 24, i still have eczema on my ankles and elbows. prone to have little bumps popping out from all parts of my body, including the skin around my belly button and hips...

Late last yr the rash was so bad that i was given 2 days of MC. i had the lil' bumps (almost like chicken pox) all over.. and when i scratch it, it will break and over time becomes my eczema patch... haizzzz...

Hi... I've been having ezcema since pri sch... it would be on my joints there... but nowadays it has spread to my neck.. sometimes it would get really very irritating n i'll go scratch it... then my boyfriend would try to stop me.. Once I twisted his finger cos itch was just that simply bad.. =( have tried chinese herbal before.. It worked.. but now working already.. lazy to go chinese doc there.. =P

but now i'm trying Herbalife products for abt a month like that and my boss said that my skin condition has improved... but i'm still waiting for my ezcema to improve...

Currently have all the rashes coming out at the joints area where it has been no coming out due to the creams that the docs gave... but my distributor said that it is caused b the body getting rid of the toxins... i'm just gonna take the products... since I had tried so much things before... and I dun wanna pass it down to my kids...

Hi Connie,

Are u currently using any shower foam or soap? When my son was born, we realised that his ezcema gets worse even if we used very mild shower foam or soap. We went to several doctors and was prescribed with so many types of cleansing lotion/solution/gel but nothing helps. Its really painful to see my boy suffering but could not to anything to help him. Eventually we went to a doc at Gleneagles and was advised to use Pinetarsol and hurray, my boy no longer suffers from ezcema since that very day I started using Pinetarsol to bathe him. He's already 3 and a half years old and has been using pinetarsol for the past 3 years. I even brought back a dozen of it from Australia as it was cheaper over there. Maybe u can try it. It really helps and would highly recommend also to those who have occasional rashes. I'll use it if I'm caught with the occasional rash.

Hi Connie,

from what i know, ginvera, eversoft, dove etc tend to be very soapy and it might not be suitable for those with skin problems like ezcema. My son's condition worsen even though I changed to very mild bathing foam from Johnny Baby but he has no problem now after using pinetarsol solution for the past 3 years. U can get it from the pharmacy. Its an alterative to soap and suitable for those with ezcema, dry and itchy skin.

From what I know, dove is no problem for ezcema, but soap with disinfectant like dettol might be too harsh. Better check with a skin specialist if you are not sure!

dove was like too rich for my son and we've tried countless types of creams/gels/solutions prescribed by doctors but nothing helps. I've a whole drawer of all these creams/gels/solutions and majority of it were used for less than 3-5 times. Luckily we eventually got recommended to the doc at gleneagles who suggested we used pinetarsol and we never looked back.

Thanks Celia@ Will go check it out.. =)

Btw, have came across an article in the Readers Digets that says that actually those soap that says its anti-bacterial would cause ppl to fall sick more easily.. hmmm...

hi bibi,

u can see the oil contents in each capsule of your EPO. Mine is each capsule = 1300mg = 9 calories. that mean even if i take 3 capsules, my calories level is only 27. Each adult each day need about 1800-2000 calories to maintain NORMAL body function like respiration and metabolism. So this 27 calories wun really affect much. It's the junk food and deep fried food that contains high calories that make the diff.

Plus this EPO's oil is good fatty acid. Compare to those saturated fats found in deep fried food, EPO's oil is really much better already.

Hope above helps.

hi clarence,

u just gotta use a soap free cleanser and mild moisturiser on your skin.

it's difficult to cure but at least you can try to minimise the symptoms.

my aunt has got too, she tried taking marine fish oil which helps a little.

hi all,

just to share with you my experience with 2 doctors who are really good dealing with skin conditions:

1) Dr Loke in Peace centre (specialist)

2) Dr Ong at Burlinton Square - GP (he is even older than dr loke) Ask for the older Dr Ong as now his younger son is gradually taking over the clinic. Older Dr Ong only comes in certain days. I think old Dr Ong is really good. He gave me a jab and some lotion which make my eczema gone within one week. the eczema was with me for about 9 months. now is no longer there and it no longer itch...

Hope this info helps!

Hi ladies, I also have the condition, and to make things worse, its on my FACE!! At times its so dry and itchy and red. Worse, the scars are raw and waters.... I was so so worried. I tried the steriod cream that the doctor gave but it cant solve the problem long term. Now I am taking this protein suppliment and it really helps a lot. Together with a good skin care regime, now more under control. Thank God!

Dear Chukybride,

Just currious, if the you said the doctors are good, then why must you visited 2 doctors? =)

For the Ong's clinic, how much does he charged you for all the medication and the jab all together? Also, when did you go for the jab?
I'm thinking of going there too.

hi all, i hv eczema at the area around my mouth. only realised recently. so i can't really take lipstick. my lips will peel! that's what happen at my ROM. at 1st still tot it's due to lousy lip stick.

well, i hate it when it's flaky and red. it's not only ugly but painful.can't even smile much smtimes. think steriod based cream are given to me. but the eczema just come and goes, very irritating. worse, when the skin at the corner of my lips look mouldy and thicken with a slightly whitish patch.

i applied moisturiser and pure vitamin e. i realise it's worse when i am stress! it's better when i take vitamin c pills. hey, get poly clinic doc to prescribe vit c pills. it's so much cheaper than buying off the rack fr watson or any similar drug/convenience stores. and u can still go back to the pharmacy to buy without seeing doc. i am not too sure whether can juz buy from the pharmacy without seeing doc. perhaps can ask.

cause it's at the lips area, so i can't really apply/ try out creams etc. so i still have to reply heavily on doc's cream, which the doc is very concerned. guess the medicine is not good to be on long term's use.

the doc got me to buy me a facial wash for sensitive face, it's good for my mouth area as it's not drying but it's not suitable for my face as i hv oily facial skin and can be prone to pimples if i am not careful.

if there's anyone there who has same prob, can share with me what facial wash u use?

thanks

Hi all,

I've had eczema for years and mostly on my upper torso and face (usually outbreaks occur on the face, breasts and stomach). Case is worse as I have facial acne too. Because of my eczema problem which started in my teens (am 30 years old now), I now have a good idea of what to use and what not to use. Would like to share what I'm using.

Apart from eczema I also suffer from cracked lips so I constantly use Vaseline on them (if I'm at home...usually use makeup and lipstick when I'm out). For lipstick, I use moisture rich ones and I find that Revlon and Loreal are quite good (for cheap off the shelf lipstick). But gotta make sure that they are from the moisture rich range and not the dry long-lasting ones.

PH is very impt especially for body washes. I have to avoid brands like Lux etc, scented ones like those from Marks & Spencer are also out. I have to be careful with body lotions and underarm deodorants as well because products that have SPF and/or whitening effect will cause me to burn and itch so I can't use any whitening products (sigh..).

QV brand is very good. I have also experimented with Johnson & Johnson PH 5.5 and so far it has been good. Body lotions from QV and Johnson & Johnson have also proved to be ok with me (tried Jergens but started to itch, Nivea was worse cause my my skin turned red and burned). For deodorants, I tried Dove roll-on and it's lovely, no itch, no burn.

For the face, a senior consultant at the National Skin Centre suggeted Avene and the products are nice. I loved the texture and smell but found them expensive (you can buy them from the Skin Centre's pharmacy itself).

I started to try Loreal's Pure range for my facial care and found them suitable. Reason why I tried this range was because the products stated that they contain a component called semo-calmyl (something like that, I can't remember the spelling). Decided to try and it's good.

Hi, I suffer from aczema too, mostly on the sole and side of my foot, and lately on the back of my hand. Suspect that for my foot, I had a combination of fungus infection on top of aczema, as I get breakout of little blisters which itch until I break them (no pus, just clear liquid). I am also tired of steroid creams as they merely suppress the symptons, not treat it. Over the years, I have accumulated a drawer full of these creams and lotions.

Anyone tried Manuka Honey ? Read from some forums that this works wonders for aczema and bought a bottle with UMF 20+. Been applying it for some time now but sadly does not seem to work for me. It softens the hard skin on my sole, but also causes more blisters to surface. When I apply it to the back of my hand, it became really red and itchy. Was so disheartened as there are so many positive reports of results with Manuka Honey, yet I have such adverse reaction to it

Hello Suncatcher,

I also hv a bit of tt aczema. Mine is on my arms n legs...

I think u should go to a doctor. I would like to recommend my doc in Bukit Batok! He solve my this skin problem headache... even NSC also cannot solve:p

Anyway, the doc's clinic is call Family clinc. Needs to call for appt although he is a GP. Sure crowded everyday...Let me know if u need the number.

Aiyo, dun try anything liao... at least, got it settle down 1st. Frankly wat is the logic of honey? Honey and Fungi? can kill one another? Strange combi!
honey goodness to skin is because it has this components call humctants that can help to lock the moisture in under the skin... keeping skin well moisture.

Your lifestyle also is a factor of whether the aczema will appear or not. Got to really take care if u r sporty person. And the condtion can also be worsen if u go to very cold areas. I experience that in Japan winter...

Hope my recommendation helps u!

Hi rabbitwsk2, thanks ! Would love to have the number of the clinic. Do you know if his treatment is based on steroid cream ?

My dad-in-law is an advocate of natural healing, and have supplied me with tons of supplements such as evening primrose, omega 3, vit C etc. Trying to instill some self-discipline in taking them. Reckon that even if it does not help my aczema, should be good for general health. Have stopped going to the gym since my latest flare up...in my case, it's more likely due to stress than a sporty lifestyle...

Hi beautiful, was recommended this shower head and soap that's supposedly good for aczema. Stopped using it in a hurry when the floor of my shower cubicle gets really mouldy with mildew. Suspect that the shower head removes chlorine and creates a condusive environ for mould to grow. Should have stuck to good old baby shower gel indeed...

I just want to thank everyone for sharing all your experiences, knowledge and information on eczema. The information has been most helpful. The only thing I have to share is Avene thermal water. Heard from a friend that its good for eczema.

I hope everyone here finds a cure to this irritating skin condition.

have anyone tried going to the dermatologist to find out what's wrong?

I had some eczema problem (i.e. dry skin under my eye), the problem was pretty persistant for about 6 mths on and off and I had questioned it before on the board but no one could help. Wen to the doc last week, he gave me a cream (nameless) but it sorta cured the problem. Almost 1 week and so far, only yesterday when i woke up in the morning the skin was abit dry (cos I guess i should have place abit of cream below my eye before sleeping).

Now i am using his cream (another one) on my leg too. Hopefully will help my skin dryness.

I am more of the skin problem at my legs.
They are too dry and therefore prone to itchniess or red spots.
Now on nutrient water to kill germs. So far so good.

I thought I just share my experience. I'm trying to lay off those creams prescribed by my dermatologist for my eczema-prone skin because I find them too harsh. Once, after using Avene's Instant Moisturising Mask for five consecutive nights, I was surprised that my skin recovered. The mask works for me so am not sure if anyone has tried this yet.

oh i'm so glad i chanced upon this thread! i thought i was the only one in this situation! i empathise with those of you who have eczema-prone face skin. i get it on my fingers occasionally and it just comes and goes without warning and it itches and looks like i've got boils (small version) and always the same few fingers. doctor creams never helped.

anyone has found a solution to a similar situation?

one of my pharmacist frens recommend this. apply pure vitamin E or fish oil on the affected areas. good for skin and they hv anti-inflammatory properties. i apply pure fish oil for my face when i sense a pimple coming out and the pimple tends to go away or heals very fast. maybe u can try it too. but make sure the fish oil or vit E u use is of high quality.
