DIAMONDS Lovers!!!

For super ideals, I like this particular place online. I bought my diamond from them:

http://www.whiteflash.com

You can do a search and find lotsa diamonds in your range! G, VS2 is a good sweet spot to go for, cos it's cheaper but visually v gd looking. Their ACA is the super ideals, their Expert Selection is just slightly short of being super ideal, but it's still ideal cut.

kristen86..u are really an expert. If next time i would like to buy online from whiteflash....can i seek your help? cos no idea abt shipping from overseas.

Sure, no prob. I know of a few other reputable ones as well. Not a must to choose Whiteflash. I'll go for whichever is better value for money. Someone recently came to me, wanting to buy from Whiteflash at first. In the end settled for James Allen.

hi,

when people talk about GIA Cert, etc, what form does this "cert" actually come in? Is it inscribed (somewhere?), or is it a small actual paper cert?

It's both. There will be an actual paper cert with all the detailed info abt the diamond, and the cert number will be laser-inscribed on the girdle of the diamond. You verify that a cert belongs to a particular diamond by checking that the numbers tally. It's like an IC number.

DiamondFanatic: do you know if we buy diamonds and the setting from Whiteflash, does that mean they will actually DO the setting for you? As in ship you a completed ring?

Or would I have to go hunt for someone else to do setting?

It's a completed ring. But I personally would prefer getting the setting done in Singapore. It's much cheaper. You can get 18k white gold for ard $400.

Hi femme,

Whether it's safe or not depends more on how thick the prongs are and how good the workmanship is. It also depends on the size of the diamond. I'll say anything that's 0.75 carat and below will be pretty safe in a 4 prong tt's not too thin (but too thick might overpower the diamond). You'll also have to check that the prongs are not porous. You'll be able to see little pores in the metal under the loupe if it's really bad. If the ring is porous, I'd think a 6 prong will be just as unsafe.

Ok thanks so much for the advice!

Hi diamondfanatic (or anyone else) - would like to ask your opinion of just diamond specifically: how would you rank Whiteflash ACA, James Allen, and Excel diamond's SuperbCert?

Thanks!

I'd be more careful while choosing from James Allen, cos they sometimes put the wrong photo with the diamonds. On top of that, they don't have their own brand of super-ideal diamonds, so it gets a little harder to choose for those who are not that experienced. I'd think that ACA and Superbcert are equal in quality. They're just super-ideal diamonds under different brand names.

Certs-wise, I feel that AGS and GIA have the highest standards. Other labs mayb tend to grade more leniently than AGS and GIA. E.g. AGS/GIA may grade a certain diamond as a G colour, but other labs may give it a better grading, like perhaps F colour.

Thanks! Do you know at which point they charge the GST? And how do we pay for it? Would it affect delivery of the item, timing-wise?

Sorry for the many questions! :P

Hi, the shipping time won't be affected. The diamond is shipped to you via fedex, and fedex will automatically settle the GST payment for you. You'll receive a bill of GST+$10 admin fee at a later time from them. BTW, I'll recommend you buy the diamond there but get the setting done here. PM me before buying or if you need any help ya? =)

For TT, you'll have to go to your bank and approach the teller to get it done. That will cost you around SGD$45. Fedex is very fast, takes 3-5 working days. Mine took ard 3 days.

He's going to Yuen Tong Gems as recommended by you too, to do the setting. Any particular person to ask for (or avoid, for that matter)? There's only one "shifu" who does the setting right? At least when I called, that's what the salesguy told me.

happy.gif

I'm not so sure abt tt, cos I din ask. From what I saw when I was there, there were quite a few shifu at their work bench, but I'm pretty sure there'll only be 1 guy on each individual project. Won't be passing the work ard.

They don't usually give you ready-made settings. Whatever it is that you want, it'll always be custom-made to the size of your diamond, even if they have the design there. So if what your friend wants is a setting with little diamonds down the side, they can also make it for him. However, it'll be more expensive as he'll have to pay for the diamonds. They'll be able to give him a rough quotation.

P.S. It'll be good if your friend can look online for a design that he likes and show them a picture as a guide.

Hi hi, would you happen to know any other jewellers that have excellent workmanship as well? Yuen Tung cannot do it in time before CNY coz the shifus will be on vacation. They will take one month to do it.

Thanks so much!

Hi, was thinking if anyone knows where to get an Idealscope or H&A viewer in Singapore? Just ordered a H&A diamond online. Wanted to impress my SO by asking her to see through the scope

Hi,

anybody here has experience buying diamond via internet?

Is there any tax or GST incurred when the diamond is shipped from US to singapore?

Thanks

Hi Femme,

Any other charges incurred besides the GST?

Do you mean the GST is to be paid by cash upon receive the items from the courier?

Appreciate if could describe a bit more detail.

Thanks a lot

oh dear, sorry, I only just saw your message. Have you bought the ring?

No GST is not paid by cash. The courier will just deliver the item to you. I think I got the invoice for GST (billed by courier themselves) 1-2 weeks later? And you follow the payment instructions. I remember cheque is acceptable.

Just checking: does diamond has resale value? I mean for like gold, there is an actual market to trade gold. But does diamond has that?

Diamonds don't have a good resale value, unless it's collector items(i.e. very very big with good clarity and colour etc or famous stones). That's the reason why some people like to buy from shops that offer an upgrade programme, cos tt's the only way you can upgrade without losing $$ on ur diamond.

have been checking out tis thread for a while liao...

diamondfanatic, just wondering if any of the 3 website links u given above is GIA certified??

Grace:

I'm not sure I understand what you mean. I don't think any websites are endorsed by GIA. If you're talking about being able to get diamonds that are GIA certified, I think you can get them from all 3 places, altho WhiteFlash carries mostly AGS certified stones. I personally have a preference for AGS certs.

Hi DiamondFanatic....

New comer here and have read thru most of the forum and postings, which I have gained some enlightenment on diamonds.

Basically I want to ambush and surprise my long-time gf with a proposal. Long over-dued.

I went to the usual jewel shops to browse, and wasn't convinced with their 'mother-of-all' prices.

Next I went to Love & Co at Vivo city.... not too bad... but still keeping my option opened, as I have yet to visit eclarity and a few others the so-called 'wholesalers', which there have been great reviews on them.

Of course, at the end of the day, I may be tempted to give online buying a try. Never tried online buying, especially now to do a BIG purchase.

So if I do, can I seek your 'guidance on how to go about it?

Hi Iamken,

Can PM me the list of wholesaler that you have shortlisted.

I was also cautious when buying diamond online, thanks to this forum esp diamondfanatic valuable advice, I also bought it from WhiteFlash and has no regret at all...

nowadays the exchange rate for USD is better...hee....

I bought the loose diamond from WF and done the setting locally...

Dun worry about authenticity, i brought the loose diamond to the jeweler for setting and at the same time ask to use their microscope to view the laser inscribed serial no to tally with my AGS cert.

The Diamond from WF is indeed a class above those that you see in local store.

On comparison, the light performance is better and it will look very bright and white compared to those of local jewellery store...

And the price is absolutely very competitive when you buy online....

Seriously, buying online allow you to have more research and information about the stone...

Imagine...would local store have the following report for you to do comparison ?

1) Sarin report
2) Ideal scope pictures

Just my comments...

Hiya all,

Just been to Clarity (a wholesaler) at Shaw Centre.

It was fantastic. The service was good. And the prices are much cheaper than ALL jewel shops.

Will write a detailed update on the forum for all to share.

Now going to watch the F1 on telly =P

Hi,

just wondering if anyone can provide some comments. I am in a dilemma to buy a solitaire or a trilogy. My budget is abt $10k and I just want to know what can I get with this budget. With a solitaire, I really want a 1 carat but am worried that the quality will not be good in terms of specs. Trilogy....don't know whether it is worth to spend 10k on...What will you do?

Hi Christina!

I'll say go out to jewellery shops, try out different styles and choose the look that u love more.

In terms of making the most out of your budget, start getting more educated in diamond specs etc (don't believe everything that jewellers tell u) so that u'll know how to maximise ur budget without compromising on WHAT'S IMPORTANT TO YOU. http://www.pricescope.com is probably somewhere good to start. You can also PM/email me if u need more help.

I think S$10k is a fine budget for a 1 carat diamond. My friend managed to get an ideal cut 1 carat diamond for her mum from WhiteFlash for around S$10k. The diamond is F colour, SI2 clarity, but she couldn't see any inclusions with her naked eye. In her case, the clarity doesn't bother her as long as she couldn't see inclusions with her naked eye, so she went down in clarity in order to get a bigger diamond within her budget. Do bear in mind that not all SI clarity diamonds r eyeclean though.

Hi Christina,

I managed to get a 0.91 EVS2 solitare set on a pave band for close to $10k (I do not know the exact amount as my HTB refused to disclose it). The jeweller is Josi Gems. Have to say that I am really happy with the ring and I can honestly say that my HTB has received countless of compliments for his good job!:-)

Go and try on as many styles as you can. Eventually, you will find the style that is YOU.:-)

Good luck.
