Mehmeh,
My worries are not abt babies who are breastfed. Rather, it is those children who are below 10 and who like to run ard, make noise and hide under tables. I'm sure tt friends are generally understanding abt not bringing them along, but relatives can be a potentially sticky issue. Cos if they don't bring them, who will take care of them when the adults are at the dinner? I did think of having a childrens' corner but the adults don't want to commit to putting their children there and we'd incur extra charges whether the children use the corner and eat the food... Argh sigh

My nightmare scenario is for both parents to come, turn up with maid and baby in pram and expect extra space! Cos my ballroom capacity is quite tight with the existing guest list =(

you can try requesting to use ur reserve table as a children's table, which means no food will be served. But you can put some colouring pencils, crayons, large legos and paper there to help entertain the kids.

With regards to maids turning up, i guess when they RSVP, you can put it to them in a nice way that you are very sorry about the limited space, but you can only accomodate family? And usually, they don't bring their prams cos there will be baby chairs. In case they bring their prams, just remove the baby chairs. hope this helps =)

hi Count,

No doubt kids are rather active, but if they have someone whom they are familiar with to play, they usually shd keep still & noise level down. I think u gotta be firm, either u or ur parents have to inform tt the banquet is strictly for adults coz of the shortage of space.

Most parents have maids or can entrust their children with someone.. I think this is their issue, u shdn't let this bother u. Pretty sure tt there are other occasions where they cant bring their children along too, either leave them with the maid or someone else.

Make sure when u address the invite, do it as "Mr & Mrs Tan" Tt shd send a clear signal but u def have to verify tt they received the card & the banquet is solely for adults. No choice but to reiterate..

Thanks for the helpful advice. Will pray abt it, and hopefully both sets of parents will be agreeable abt excluding children from the guest list. Am hoping tt this issue will be ironed out easily. Cos FH's parents seem quite set on inviting every single person and increase their no of tables...

Angelala, all the best for the last lap of ur wedding preps! Hope u've managed to settle most of the last min items. Have a blessed wedding and may God bless ur marriage richly dear! =)

Hey Count... honestly, if u only meant to invite the couple and not their family and maids, just invite mr and Mrs ABC. Follow up with RSVPs.. ANd ask "hi, are u and ur partner coming?" If they ask if they can bring their kids, tell them honestly about the space constraint. U would really like to invite the whole family but are bounded by physical space. If they cannot find a nanny for the kids, they will tell u that they cant come, then u can move on to invite other pple lor...

Gd choice u will neber regret it man...By the way, Touch MPC is non-Christian base cos it is open to the public. For pple like mua from FCBC, there's a2nd part to it that's Christian base but the one that u'll b going is non-C. Enjoy it u will be blessed by them.

all from the same team, gd and thus r like hotcakes...

I have no regrets going for the MPC under Swee Noi and Seow Yong...the one to one counselling sessions were a blessing and v helpful

Hey Ebell, yes we just went for the first session yesterday and enjoyed ourselves a lot. And learnt a lot too! Seow Yong and Swee Noi are really dedicated teachers, and they are certainly an inspiration to us cos they're still so loving after 20 years of marriage!

Ericia and Mag, i think MPC is worth considering. At least u get to work out issues with FH and know each other better. For e.g., yesterday we learnt abt the "united front" and how a married couple shd present a united front to the in-laws, how wives shd generally allow husbands to speak to their mothers instead of us telling them directly etc. Quite useful tips i feel =)

Thanks for the encouragement. Will pray as well. But feel very blessed after the MPC so far. Cos i was quite scared of staying with ILs for a few yrs. But after yesterday i realised tt it shd be all right if i and FH work together at it, and commit the living arrangement to God. After all, He has promised in Proverbs 3 that if we trust in him, and lean not on our own understanding, and acknowledge him, he will direct our paths. The contemporary English version says that He will "clear our paths". So this is an encouragement to each and every one of us to persevere however tough it may get

Ya.. I suppose St. Andrew Cathedral not SAM.. By the way, may i ask what does SAM stands for?? Hehehe.. St. Andrew is quite strict one which means only christian cum member of the church can hold the blessing there only..

But no worries, if u r a baptised christian you can always call up to ask.. Act fast otherwise no more liao becoz i actually book the date last year and from my knowing is that there will be two couple including me holding the blessing on the same day and within a day the church can be use for four wedding blessing..

weddin: I think St Andrew's is very very strict about that. U MUST be a member of St Andrew's. Although i dunno if they will allow members of other bretheren churches to use or not.

Have to be sac's member if you wanna get married over there... They are very strict one probably because of it's old history in Singapore and also one of the oldest denomination of christianity which is an Anglican christian on earth ba...

Even member of the church has to follow certain rules and regulations set by the cathedral..

I'm not too experienced abt this but my general take on this is to consider the following:

1) Feedback from friends who have used the caterer e.g. whether the caterer is punctual in setting up, size of food portions
2) Type of food u're interested in. Generally, local food (e.g. spring roll, samosas, beehoon) cost less than more "exotic" food such as lasagne, prawns etc
3) Reliability of caterer e.g. how fast they respond to ur queries, willingness to accommodate ur requests
4) Quality and quantity of food
5) Whether free cocktail tables, chairs are provided. Usually a few only, if they do

Actually i think $15/pax is quite high. Unless u're intending on a nicer tea reception with better deco and wider variety of food, i think $10 shd be more than suff. Esp since tea costs less than lunch

At $10 u can get a gd spread consisting the exotic food (ie more fresh rather than processed-frozen) Count has mentioned. U can try Lavish, Angeli, Four Seasons & Fuszin Palate..(I have tried them all shows & others' weddings, quite gd)

$12-15 is way too exp for tea recep, unless u're going to use melamine ware & having all sit-down. If so, then i think it's pretty okie

weddin> heard Mum's Kitchen not bad. not sure abt weddings, but SIA uses them very frequently. i've seen photos of their set-up - quite nice. it's on my shortlist too.

Anyone tried chilli padi for catering b4? 1 of my friends had it & had very gd comments for the food.

I have not come up with the church wedding programme yet but it should be sth simple, including hyms, exchange of vows, signing of cert, short scripture reading on ephesians thats abt it. please help!

ribbons> just went to chilli padi for dinner today! They do weddings. my friend's wedding is done by them. their website lists all the wedding menus too. wedding high tea menus range from $5-10 i think. my friend used batik cloth which i thought was something different. but I saw in their set-up pics at the restaurant they have the usual white and another color cloth as well.

ericia> your programme quite simple so abt 1-1.5hrs shd be ok. buffet reception usually abt 45mins-1hr for guests to clear.

Hmm, Chilli Padi is not halal certified if i'm not mistaken. So if u intend to invite ur Muslim frens, then it might be an issue, tt's of coz if they do accept ur invitation..

When i was thinking abt the tea recep, i know at $10 i can cater the spread usually found at lunches & those caterers i had mentioned a few posts earlier were willing to do so. Wedding tea receps are usually too over-priced, for the fact tt they are for weddings..Moreover u get frozen-processed food, so u cld really consider if u've the budget of $10-15 to get a worth-while spread but not the wedding menu

Erica: I feel $10 for a tea reception is going to be a very grand reception.. For $10 u can get a lunch leh..
$10 tea recetion: very grand and non recption finger food.
$10 lunch: Cheap for lunch but common and usual food lor.

If u are getting $10 for tea reception, i hope they wouldnt give u the usual tea reception, finger food kind of food.

mehmeh.. but usually these wedding menus, provide wedding decor.

So a church programme, regardless of the denomination, shd last abt 1.5 hours max? Have a slight problem here. Cos i have another bride using the church at 11am and mine is at 2pm. Afraid tt her guests may linger over lunch and then no parking when my guests arrive. Any solutions u all can think of? Do most guests stay long after the church service esp for lunch, or do they clear out fast?

Yupz, u are right abt the wedding decor. But i dun see them doing very much. So far the best wedding decor was by Purple Sage, really very elaborate. Even the VIP table for the couple & their parents are often neglected, by these grp themselves..

The entire HM service shd not take longer than 1hr15min, give abt 30min for photo-taking & some wld have proceeded with the recep. Think for the bride before u, her guests wld prob stay till max 1330? Most ppl wun hang ard too much after church esp ard noon, coz tt wld mean the Sat is kinda 'wasted'

Majority of ur guests wld arrive after 1330. Based on the no. of weddings i've attended in PLMC, this is usually the trend. Moreover the last few guests of the earlier wedding who stay till 1330, wun be the bulk of them, just the few who need to clear etc

U cld discuss with the couple & get their MC to announce to not stay beyond a certain time coz of ur wedding being next? I think they wld be willing to help u out here

yah lah.. COunt, talk to the couple before u lor. I'm sure they will understand. BUt from what i understand, the couples are usually told what time they have to clear out by.

Or another thing u can do is, get ur helpers to 'move in' and sort of give the hint that they are preparing for another wedding. Lets say the guest are suppose to clear out by 1:15pm (which i think is reallly tight on timing), get ur helpers to move in then. let the guest get the idea that they have to leave when they see ur friends settng up...
