Car

real sotong: if u can set aside 40k for downpayment, u shld have no probs servicing loan for ur car. Maybe u can even pay off fully in 1yr...

u want spacious interior? then Swift is not the car for u, inside is cramped. Fit wld be a better choice, very spacious. Swift is better known for its handling, not for space.

would $500 per month be enough to cover everything aside from the car cost? Like petrol, carpark, insurance etc.

besides swift and fit, and other suitable ones?

what will the diff be for example, for a 1st hand fit and a 2nd hand fit?

Honda is a better choice.. I like Honda car, regardingless is Fit, Civic, etc.. The space in the car is spacious and comfort..

depends on how many yrs loan u taking...try not to take 10yr loan if u can. If 4-5yrs still ok...$500 prob wun be enough from my estimate...take for eg. $300+ per mth for ur installment after u down 40k, that means u have left barely $200 for petrol, parking, ERP each mth...unless u seldom drive otherwise wun be enough. Not to mention road tax every 6mths/1yr and yrly insurance as well.

Do ur sums well first before taking the plunge...it will help u to decide whether or not u can afford to buy a car.

1.3L there are many in the market...affordable ones mostly wld be Jap cars. Try going to the different agents and test drive them before u decide.

just wanna say - refrain from buying new cars...

with 40k, just buy a 35k 2nd hand car of reasonable quality. u never need to worry abt instlaments and u won't be hit by interest rates... the 5k can go into the maintenance of the car for at least 3yrs...

Just to share, if you are 1st time driver - don't get NEW cars...
sure heartache!!! due to minor accident here & there ( quite sure to have )

I got my KIA RIO ( a year old car ) for $30K

I paid it off w/o taking loan

My mthly maintenance for petrol, parking, ERP, road tax, insurance is ard $600

Happily driving for 2 years already, spend within your own means...to enjoy having a car

i'm seriously having the dilema of getting a car actually. I'll be the only one driving it. (My HB doesn't have a license).

my workplace is about 10 minutes away from my house. My working hours will not benefit me in getting those red plate weekend cars.

The only time I'll be using it alot will be over the weekends.
And why am I not choosing taxis or public transport, because I've got a dog to bring along with me - taxi driver complain smelly lah etc.

ppl find me silly - leave the car in the carpark most of the time...
unless my mother drives it - but she's already reaching 60. If she drives it, she'll need to go for body chekups etc?

sun flower,

I wouldn't call that a dilemma..

If you only drive a lot during weekends.. then weekend car is ok what.. your workplace is so near.. so don't have to drive to work unless the parking at workplace is free.. then you may want to consider a normal car..

HB no license can go get one.. it is not too difficult.

So, I don't see where is the problem.

Why you care if people find you silly.. you just need to be sure of your needs and act accordingly.

parking at my workplace IS free.

but then, i only leave home about 8am, and leave work place about 6.45pm latest(will get chased out by those atendents as they need to lock up the place).

HB tried many times already, still fail when doing the practical test.
He's so pessimistic about driving now, therefore it's very hard to persuade him to get a license.

I'm kind of confused.

u bring your dog along to your workplace that is 10 mins away everyday?
if its only 10 mins, why not jog, cycle or walk?

Its really a waste of money to either take taxi or get a car solely to get to and from home & workplace of this kind of distance!

I agreed. Since you only use the car mostly on weekend, then why dont your rent a car. I believed you also wont be going out on every weekend. Right?

If buying a weekend/non-weekend car, there will be alot of payment to be done.. Car insurance, road tax, parking, maintainence cost, COE & etc..

actually for pple looking to own cars, this is actually the best way to start... try renting a car for 1mth, then arrange your season parking etc and u just experience the ownership for a month... of cos, the initial stage u'll be driving all over the place, but then on weekdays the car sits like a white elephant, so it can actually help u to make a decision on the longterm ownership...

this is especially impt if costs in car-ownership is a major concern, cos honestly i see alot of cars barely 1 year old - being repossessed and auctioned off... the cars will be sold and the previous owners have to make good the difference. look at the number of cars being auctioned off. there's even an 8mths old E200 which i can't imagine how much loss the previous owner incurred. http://www.sgcarmart.com/used_cars/listing.php?CAT=15

Another alternative is car sharing scheme which NTUC Income Car Co-op, Whizz Car and some other vendors are operating. You can work out based on your driving needs to see if car rental or car sharing scheme is more worthwhile for your case. Of course when considering the car sharing scheme, you have to assess the location of the fleets, membership fees as well as the car member ratio to ascertain if it is worth your while cos some schemes require you to pay membership fee.

nope. i mean, my workplace is only at most about 10 minutes drive away.

but weekends use to ferry my dog to places for pinics/fun etc.

maybe will consider car rental then see how i will be able to make arrangement. Thank all

easyway is sgcarmart under auction category.

But make sure u really have cash to buy.
i normally i try to buy from auction.
But i m not a car dealer. For your infor.
But u need to have some knowledge abt cars so as not buy a car that is involved in a major accident before.

Chances are u will buy it really cheap. Esp luxury category
