That's reasonable and you mentioned that the workmanship is rather good ... maybe I can go there and take a look. How long did they take to finish the suit? 24 hrs?

I just came back last night... since there from 10 Nov. A real fruitful trip... manage to get standing lamp, candle holder, decorative thingy for my new place from Chatuchak Market and Suan Lum night market.
Also got lots of 'patra' tableware from there... and it's realli cheap...

Also have take one morning to visit the original floating market in Daeneon Saduak. I feel that it's a bit too commecialised already.

Spend the first evening in Baiyoke too... food are so so... but the night view was tremendous... especially from the 84th floor rotating gallery...

I too went JOY COLLECTION and make a suit and 3 shirt... it was abt 5000bht and i dun face any problem with them... probably i spoken teochew with the lady boss... so..for me good deal ....

Lady boss? We were talking to the guy boss and his daughter...spoke teochew with him too, but guess it's my bf luck...will try the tailor touraco recommend on my next trip.

Here's my review though I came back on Sunday, but had no time to post my review about the trip.


-Lunch ( Thai Food) at The Loft @ Central. Food was expensive and not satisfying.
- Food court @ Big C. Food was cheap and good! Recommended! Had rice with fish ( like those fish & chips kind) for only 35B
- Black Canyon coffee food is quite cheap and good. 70b for rice + fish and 30-40b for fruit jucies.
- Fuji Restaurant(@ MBK) was so so, nothing fanstatic!
-Went to Cabbages & condoms, food was alright, but like the ambience and deco.
- Foot/Thai Massage @ Paradise ( just outside Asia Hotel- 1hr for 200b , their foot massage is better)

Like wat win said, Chatuchak can't bargain much, at most 10-30b. Personally, I prefer pratunam market...Got bikini for only 200b, they are more willing to reduce the prices. MBK can't really bargin much and their opening price is much higher than pratunam.

Got a bag @ naraya, but a lot of designs didn't have the colour i want. Shoes @ MBK is cheap , only 199B per pair.

Didn't have time to go Chinatown, Chang Massage,Baiyoke tower, Supperbedclub and all the night markets like Patpong and Suan Lum this trip, will visit these places on my next trip, maybe in March.

I got JC add from here. I was searching the entire map for this road but still can't find... thinking of going to Siam Sq there liao.... After dinner at Baiyoke on the first night while walking back to Eastin Hotel... I saw JC.. then I realise it's only 5 min walk from my hotel... thinking of the hassal of running to siam sq to test the suit so i decided get them to do lor.....

when i first going in was the lady boss who serve us... in english ... like chicken duck talk... then we found the common lang of teochew lor....

manage to try and change all necessary the very next day and get to talk to the guy boss and daughter too.. the suit and shirt was perfectly alright .....and collected in 3 days...

papaya salad restn is on the row of shops nxt to novotel on it's left(assuming u facing the novotel entrance) It shld be siam soi 5, nxt to it is a jap restn. There is a big signboard on the 2nd level above papaya restn, u will notice some cushions for waiting cutomers outside the restn. Menu is in Thai & open at 11.15am, tink shld be daily.
 
I just got back from bkk as well... and I bought my wedding favours at chatuchak, cheap cheap. got candles... and at suan lum, found a shop that sells pouches of diff sizes (wholesale) and they can print words on the pouches for you. I ordered from them coz it'll save me the trouble of wrapping the candles... printed me & FH's name and date on the pouch.

If anyone's interested in the shop, let me know... I've got the namecard but it's not with me right now

serene: I bought little candles in porcelain holders, cost abt $70 for 330 candles (I bought those 30 candles in 1 packet).... the pouch cost abt $82 for 300 pcs... incl freight... but if u order more than 400 pieces, freight is free, or if u afford to wait 3-5 days, then can collect yourself. I'll post up the address tonight.

mehmeh: the candles were ok... i packed it in my luggage, surrounded with clothes and check in the baggage.... if u planning to get that, remember to check the porcelain b4 u buy, coz in some packets, there were 1 or 2 already cracked

besides candles, they were selling chopsticks too (think some pple got that as wedding favours).

JL: I went to hai wai tian... the sharks fins and birds nest were alright... but the fish & seafood were really fresh. We found that the bird's nest at the food court at MBK were better than hai wai tian, in the sense that there's more bird's nest. I've not been to nam sing, so I dont know if its better.

we were there on thu then they gave us one shirt and trousers on fri (24hrs later) as if it fits then the will duplicate the 2nd set so no need to try all. The jacket was just a prototype (no sleeves and buttons). When we go back on friday, the actual tailor was there taking measurement for the shoulder and see if the length is ok and the place to put the buttons.

Then they deliver everything back to us on saturday to our hotel.

I think the sharks' fin at Hai Wai Tian is better than the birds' nest. I find that my mum's birds' nest is better and more than Hai Wai Tian.I don't have the addy but it's relatively easy to find. It's along the main road.

I bought 300+ shot glasses (with pics of wedding couple) back from Chatuchak Market. We need to pack them into 2 of our luggages and had to hand carry some. We covered with clothes and newspapers and cardboard boxes. In fact, we have exceeded the weight limit but was not charged. It is very very heavy. I asked about the freight costs (Bangkok Post) back to Singapore and it costs like $150 for ship back to singapore for about 21kg and it's the promotion price.

freight charges are determine either by the physical weight or by the volume of the packaging (LxBxH) which ever is higher in cost... the stuff that i need to bring back will cost me a hundred plus dollars... I have check with airline on the allowance for the baggage... that's why decided to take the risk... if not pay lor... end up could be also the same price mah.

It along the main road, u will see a yellow signboard, from white orchid hotel is less than 5 mins walk down to it's right side.

Touraco, yes, but they put cushions outside e restn. For those who go, go straight to the staff standing at e main entrance to place order straightaway(menu in thai anyway, asked for their recommendation), no need to wait in line with e queue.

dear_dear, from e siam BTS station, u turned towards e side to novotel hotel, there r 2 staircase exits, 1 of them face or near to MK. I prefered MK to cocoa cos more variety & service better, spent abt 340b-370b for 2 in tis 2 restn.

River ride at central pier - alight at S6 Saphan Taksin, 75b per person for unlimited ride from 9am - 3pm incl. of 1 mineral water. u wan to go to various temples at ard 20b per temple except grand palace @ 200b(but need to wear proper pant, shirt, covered shoe); can rent from there FOC provided u submitted them your NRIC/passport. 1 of e stations stop near chinatown as well.

u mean the restaurant at the state tower? i am not sure how much it costs but i shld guess pretty expensive. Dress code wise shld be quite strict.

I was staying in Eastin and there was a counter with this kind local trips... I can't manage to book from them at 500 bht because it was fulled... so i book thru' my local tour agency at 600 bht instead.

in the initial stage, i was thinking of figuring my way there... i give up because must go to the southern bus terminal to take bus.... that will probably cost s few hundred bht and then the bus fare..etc ...and too dunno whether the bus stop exactly at the market or not... so take local tour...

the half day tour will include "long tail" ride free... when reach market... can take paddle boat at 100bht....

one thing no good taking tour is that... you must follow thru' with them the rest of the local attractions... a bit waste of time lor....
 
Hi all, will be going to Bangkok next month travelling by SQ and stay at Baiyoke Sky at S$470 include tax. Seems like this forum is very beneficial....
