Btw, mindef reverted, reply as follows -
I refer to your feedback made to the Minister for Defence, on the issue of noise pollution generated from Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF)’s aircraft on 29 Jun 2008.
2. We regret that the noise level generated by our aircraft flying activities has caused inconvenience to you. We are also mindful of your concerns over the noise generated by aircraft flying activities. The well-being of residents living near airbases is always of prime concern to MINDEF and the RSAF. Due to our country's limited airspace and the need for our pilots to hone their flying skills locally day and night, our aircraft will inevitably fly over some residential areas, including Jurong.
3. The RSAF does not usually conduct flying activities on Sundays. However, the flying activities on 29 Jun 2008 were necessary due to the RSAF's participation in an exercise with a foreign air force.
4. The RSAF constantly examines ways to reduce the impact of noise from our flying activities. Current noise abatement measures include:
a. Raising the minimum transit altitudes of RSAF aircraft;
b. Having our aircraft take the quickest flight route to the training areas;
c. Ensuring that all day flying activities commence after 0700hrs and all night flying activities cease by 2300hrs, unless absolutely necessary for operational reasons; and
d. Relocating a significant portion of aircraft training overseas.
5. In the interest of national security, flying activities remain crucial to the defence of our country. Please be assured that whilst maintaining operational readiness and vigilance for the security of our nation, the RSAF will continue to remain sensitive to the concerns of the public. We thank you for your understanding.
