Anyone planning their weddings from overseas?

Katgrrl
Glad that everything's turning out fine for you. btw, any luck with the silk flowers? can't wait to see your pictures. Re dieting, it's okay, in a few weeks, it will be over. Just jot down what you crave to ease any jitters or withdrawal symptoms! But remember your vitamins B and C for energy and glow. I'm pretty sure you'll look great - otherwise we can always whip out a trusty-crusty corset (a la nic kidman in moulin rouge)

oh, it was FH's birthday yesterday (he was visiting) and I made him a japanese cheesecake, such a flop - it tasted good but felt like a souffle instead

You have any recipe?

Hello girls,

it is bank holiday weekend here and the weather is thankfully moderately warm. gives us poor mortals a chance to go out and have nice walks by the sea. :-D I did get to go into town with two of my friends and despite telling myself not to buy anything non wedding, i succumbed to temptation and bought a pair of shoes. I know it is naughty of me considering it was one of those situations where I had to hide from Ben and pretend that I've always had it. hehhehehe

thank you girls for the advice with my friend. I think I will email her first and suggest the amount to her. I did get to speak over the phone to her asking about it but I think she was quite uncomfortable talking about money. I will offer her some expense money and take the suggestion of buying her something too.

I received some more bad news: due to national day rehearsals, we won't be able to have our reception at SRC nor the actual day itself. So now, in order to have it at The Sail@The Bay, we would have to do it on friday the 29th. arrrgh! can anything else be in my way?!?! I've got a huge concern about my s'porean friends who will have to work on fridays and feel like they may not want to come because it is inconvenient to rush straight after work from home, getting ready after work for 7.30pm wedding dinner. I may not do the post wedding part if it is on friday coz i doubt anyone would feel like continuing to party as they'd feel tired from work? I think I'll worry about it closer to the wedding day as I'm sure there are places by the Esplanade where we can just 'crash' afterwards. hahahah ermm do clubs/lounge open until late on friday by the bay?

dewberry: where is the villa bali at, hun? is it difficult to get there? Any other recommendations for places to have a party by the Esplanade?

As for the traditional outfits, we've decided to rent it out from Anggun Andaman. I spoke to one of their representatives and she said that we just have to pay a deposit with them in order for us to book their services for the day we want and then choose the outfits when we arrive. She did something about being a bit too late but she will accommodate to our needs as it is one of those no choice situation. that's a huge relief coz I don't have to worry about hair and make up.

oh!! pictures of me trying on my dress. sorry for posting it so late.... finally got the camera off ben.
http://www.imagestation.com/album/index.html?id=2135067749

i think you might need to register with imagestation first but should be fine to view the pictures afterwards.

Riobbit: oh my god!! it's your wedding just round the corner! the weather has been good lately so you should be able to have a beautiful day *cross fingers* As for the parasols, i remember seeing it in a magazine before... where you stick a small piece of paper attached to the parasol with the name of your guests. Perhaps you can use double sided tape? I can't believe you can't find blutack!

Agree with Maddcow, standing candles are nice and formal looking but with floating candles I feel like they add a sense of romanticsm. you can add one of those nice coloured stones or fruit in the water then top it up with floating candles. Hope it all works out. Let us know what you've decided on and don't forget us here who are always hungry for wedding details and pictures. :-D

Thanks alot girls! (big hugs and kisses to all)I am getting married (*part 2*) this Saturday, and everything is artistic chaos.. and I thought it gets better with practice. Anyways, I have given up on the parasols idea, and (thanks a million Katgrrl!) will use paper seat placement cards, weighted with little oranges (like satsumas or something). eventually told the florist to decide on the wretched candles herself, and I trust her taste, so Surprise Me!! Will put up photos on the website for you guys to check out, so I can tell you what works (and what doesn't) before your respective big days!! Good luck with your diets and wedding planning!

heya girls!! I finally got my flower girl dresses. one item down, one million more to go. I need to share since I got a really good deal on them. was smiling all weekend. you know a good bargain really lifts the spirits hehe. They were marked down from $120 each to 2 for $50 at Century 21 and they look gorgeous on the girls.

katgrrl ... looking forward to see some good works from NH
happy.gif
I think he'll do a great job on your wong kah wai theme. I vaguely remember seeing something simlar on his site. are you going to do an outdoor shoot as well? tell us where you go hehe. we're doing ours the first week we're back...and the 2 bbqs in a row this weekend didn't help my waist line ...

sya ... I am still trying to find wedding shoes. meanwhile i've found a ton of non-wedding ones I really want! http://www.littlebali.com (link courtesy of dewy) perhaps you can have something chill on friday night and do a party saturday?
happy.gif
I went to a friend's wedding on a friday night and most people left pretty early, some came in their work clothes. on the other hand... some people might be ready to party the night away since its the beginning of the weekend hehe.

ribbit > hang in there it'l all come together

maddcow > not much help in the kitchen department. I'm sure FH enjoyed your cake regardless
happy.gif
speaking of which i had the most gorgeous tres leches cake the other day and I want to recreate it myself!! anyone have a tried and true recipe? wish me luck hehe.

dewy> you back yet??

ashlee> erh you girls know where she went? been missing for sometime now

Maddcow, I'm sure the cheesecake-souffle tasted good, after all, it was a product of love!!
happy.gif
Btw, here are 2 cheesecake recipes I'd tried with success. The good thing about the 'Mom's Cheesecake' recipe is that u can use start varying it by adding oreos, blueberries, strawberries, mocha etc.... *drool*....

Mom's cheesecake

2 cups graham cracker crumbs
1 tablespoon white sugar
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 cup margarine
3 (8 ounce) packages cream cheese
0.75-1.5 cups white sugar
4 eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1/4 teaspoon salt
2 cups sour cream

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). In a medium bowl, combine graham cracker crumbs, 3 tablespoons sugar, cinnamon and melted margarine. Mix all ingredients well and press into bottom and sides of a 9 inch springform pan.

2. In a large bowl, beat cream cheese and sugar until smooth. Blend in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla and salt. Fold in the sour cream.

3. Pour batter into springform pan. Bake in preheated oven for 1 hour. Turn off oven and leave cake in for at least 30 minutes.

KeyLime Cheesecake

2 cups finely ground graham cracker crumbs
1 tablespoons white sugar
1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
1 1/4 pounds cream cheese, softened
3/4 cup white sugar
1 cup sour cream
3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
3 eggs
0.5*-3/4 cup key lime juice
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

* recommended

1. To make Crust: In a bowl stir together the graham cracker crumbs and 2 tablespoons sugar, stir in the butter well. Pat the mixture into the bottom and 1/2 inch up the side of a buttered 10 inch springform pan and bake the crust in a preheated 375 degree F (190 degree C) oven for 8 minutes. Transfer the pan to a rack and cool.

2. In a large bowl with an electric mixer, beat cream cheese and 3/4 cup sugar until smooth, beat in the eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Beat in the sour cream, flour, lime juice and vanilla. Beat the mixture until it is smooth.

3. Pour the filling over the crust. Bake the cheesecake in the preheated oven for 15 minutes, reduce the temperature to 250 degrees F (120 degrees C) and bake for 50 to 55 minutes longer, or until center is barely set. Let the cheesecake cool on a rack, then chill it, covered, overnight. Remove the cheesecake from the pan and transfer it to a cake stand.

Where appropriate, I substituted margarine (trans fats!) with butter and graham cracker with digestive biscuits. Oh, at least 33% less sugar always tastes sweet enough for me. I'll send you a word doc on Tips where I baked my cheesecakes in water baths and how to test for doneness. Dun wanna bore the rest; of course, if any of u gals want it, just email me
happy.gif

Snippy, with NH, we'd be going to Little India where we go nearly all the time for food. And then a 'zhi cha' (coffeeshop) place after that. Heheh...I guess, it all centers around food..

Ribbit, remember to have fun!
happy.gif
(I'm trying to tell myself that as well)

Sya, wanna see the pix too but same prob as Snippy
sad.gif

Hello girls,

sorry about the confusion!*my bad!* I totally forgot all about the password. it is >wedding<.

katgrrl:with those recipes, you've definitely made me want to try some baking. went over to a friend's home last friday and her hubby made some delicious raspberry cheesecake which was divine! it was a winner coz ben liked it too and that says alot from a guy who will only eat chocolate cake with cream for dessert. :-D

Snippy:isn't the search for wedding shoes hard? I can't seem to find anything either!well there are wedding shoes but nothing seems to catch my fancy - which was another justifiable cause for me to buy a pair of gold flat shoes I do not need but must have. *sniggers* there is also the problem of buy wedding shoes and sexy 'wedding shoes' I can wear again. It'll be great if I can have a pair of shoes for the wedding gown and my orange dress.

when it comes to shoes, england is limited mainly due to pricing and variety. every other shop has got the same kind of design.

right.... need to rush! speak to you girls later! xx

sya...the dress looks absolutely stunning on you
happy.gif
love the gathers in the front. can I suggest sexy gold sandals to go with both the orange dress and wedding gown? btw your criteria for shoes is exactly the same as mine. I'm staying away from the whites and looking for a pair of gold heels.(reason to splurge if I can wear them again hehe) though I must say that its been quite a challenge finding the perfect pair haha picky picky. let me know if you find yours!

katgrrl..u're making me hungry! both with the cheesecake and the talk of little india and chi zha
sad.gif

Sya, agree with Snippy! u look gorgeous! The gold sandals sound like a good idea too
happy.gif

And fancy a guy making cheesecakes! if I find 1 like that, I'll marry him in an instant
lol.gif

Katgrrl
wow, do you have your recipes on a Palm pilot so you can save mortal souls like me? You are my heroine. Thanks so much for your tips too, I really appreciate it. Does Finland have Cooks Illustrated - I'm sure you'll enjoy reading them, they break down cooking to a science - chemistry.

Sya - Sorry to hear that National Day rehearsals take precedent over your big day, I really don't see the rationale(!)
wink.gif
I think lounges do open till late, for one, I know Bar and Billiard Room in Raffles open till 2 am. As for your guests, I think that it depends on their profiles - my mom used to own a bar & cafe and people lounged around till 12 am on Fridays. Oh wow, I like your goddess gown - very chic - you look fantastic.

ribbit - if I don't check in again, best wishes for your upcoming sequel!

o yea, for sexy shoes!

Hi Karen,

Sorry for seeing your post so late...Thanks for replying..
I'm actually looking for clear 4oz jars for filling with bath salts and make into Wedding Favors.. I wonder if you know where i can find such jars suppliers in sydney..
Also if you know of any shop in sydney that carries wedding favors.. Appreciate your help..

Hellooooo
I need help. After months of talk-think and no action, I finally whittle down my choices to wearing a cs made by a dress maker here in madison. No frog(?) buttons but perhaps a touch of chinoiserie in fabric choice. I need advice on (1) train length/existence (2) color. Please see exhibit A for my choice of silhouette, high collar, low keyhole neckline. Thanks a lot in adv, my lovelies. p.s. facing the prospect of shopping solo for my dresses, i suddenly feel that being in-charge can be lonely...
289277.jpg

maddcow > how funny! that was exactly the same CS (YSL inspired) that Dang had drawn for me. Though she didn't show me a photo of it so it was hard to imagine at that time. I think she might have added a lower collar too so I went with the current one i have. anyway I think it looks gorgeous! feeling a tinge of regret that I didn't pick this design. Very zzy in 2046! Now why didn't she show me the photo?? duh. *shakes fist*

anyway enough about me
happy.gif
the only modification I'd make is not having a train to give it less of a couture look and to make it more wearable. as for color I like black ..since it adds an air of mystery hehe..but since its for a wedding that might not work. how about a rich burgandy type color like this...sultry...(not crazy about the print)
http://www.goodorient.com/goodorient/product.php?productid=25220&cat=16&page=2

I also need you guy's help! I'm looking for a short classic chic dress for our courtyard (outdoors) lunch reception. Tell me your preference! suggestions also welcome hehe. The michael kors one might be a tad casual.

can't concentrate on work anymore...1 more month to singapore. hrmm where is dewy? did the bears get to you at big sur?
wink.gif

snippy
definitely the first one... the Halter Dress with Satin Tie...
happy.gif

Sigh, one month exactly to our wedding. And I am completely pi**ed off by fiance. Feel like calling it off now.
sad.gif

Maddcow, very sexy dress!
happy.gif
I think the train adds a new twist to the CS and ups the glam quotient considerably. I'll leave the train if I were you because it's a distinguishing feature of the dress. But if u're concerned about manoeuvrability, perhaps a shorter train then. While u're making the dress, u could also bear in mind post-wedding wearability perhaps by designing the slit such that it won't look odd when the train is trimmed off. As for colour, it depends on you entirely. Mine's black lace with a navy blue silk base. Not traditional colours in the least bit...but as my wedding coordinator told me, "who cares? u can do whatever you want. It's YOUR wedding"
wink.gif

Snippy, I think the Halter Dress with Satin Tie & Sophia silk dress look lovely. Very classy & beautiful, both! Perhaps u could try them on to see how they flow on you? 1 thing though..the halter dress is polyester while the sophia dress is silk. Personally, I prefer silk as it feels more luxurious. It's also less likely to feel sticky in the tropics. I was also told that in temperate countries, some synthetic materials may 'cling' to you due to static. But at the end of the day, I guess the proof is in the 'wearing'
happy.gif

Ashlee...dun worry, FH & I went through the same roller coaster of emotions as well.. This is a most stressful time for both of you. Perhaps both of you just need to talk about it? or have a short getaway together to de-stress?

Maddcow, glad u liked the recipes. Yeah, incidentally, I do store a couple of them on my Palm but that's because I refer to them in the kitchen. All my recipes are however stored on my Mac, categorized by Indian, Thai, Pasta & Quiche, Sweets, Finnish & Pickles... Let me know what u're interested in
happy.gif

Cooks Illustrated? Not seen it before..a trip to Borders & Kinokuniya coming up! by any chance is it similar to Sports Illustrated? hot sweaty (male) chefs working it out with their skillets?
biggrin.gif

snippy n katgrrl
sigh, it is just minor stuff, but am beginning to wonder if it is going to escalate after wedding. Maybe I am a perfectionist w it comes to marriage. I dunno if he is subconsciously not ready to settle down, or am I too hard to please. Problem is, he doesn't seem to think there's any problem, so it just makes me look unreasonable. Aiya... incoherent already.

snippy
For ur dress, I say, go for it girl! Think u will look really pretty in it, being slim and perfectly proportionate. Not THAT ex lah, just try not to spend too much on the shoes!
biggrin.gif

maddcow
agree w katgrrl, maybe shortern the train for wearability. aww... ur gonna look stunning in it!
happy.gif

Hiya
where's dewy? I think she's decided to leave our world-weary verbiage and to indulge in the great outdoors- no internet, no brides just her and her edward...waahh- we miss you dewy!

oh sweetie ashlee - how are you feeling? I always find it good to recognize what anger/fears I have and then have an upfront talk. If it helps, email us and we can talk about it without the whole world looking at our feelings.

Snippy - yeah, what a surprising coincidence. I'd choose Dang if I weren't stuck here. I like the Kors dress best, I think a minidress with strappy sandals makes one look taller and more streamlined. I've a weakness for minidresses though. I was at the bridal shop this morning and guess what, the first dress they brought in was THE Alvina Valenta dress - a strapless trumpet-skirt dress. These people read minds, sister. I told FH that I was leaving my credit card at home, which I didn't in a quest to test my self-control. The other one was a Judd Waddell, equally beautiful. The Valenta dress costs a whopping $2900! I told FH that I'm on the verge of backing down to bridal indulgence! He merely laughed but I guess he knew me well enough that I have second thoughts on splurging.

Katgrrl - haha, the only illustrations are Mr. cilantro, Miss rosemary and sometimes, Miss Sexy Springrolls. They are quarterly magazines and each year, a bound copy of the year's publications will be released. Oooh, recipes, me likey. I've been dying to get my recipes into electronic forms, but being such a nostalgic schmuck, I always write down my recipes in binders and cards and doodle ingredients on them. You'll have to share with me some day! I'll consolidate a LIST!

thanks for your comments on the cs - i like black too, but mommy dearest is a tad too pantang even though she'd go for a black dress in a heartbeat herself.

oops, ashlee, i just posted my message and saw yours - we must be online at the same time. I hope you are feeling better, sweetie.

wah! i leave for a weekend and such a flurry of activities have been posted... dewy comes back from the wilderness, a bit bewildered from all the posts now *blinks in confusion*

hehe, the trip was OSSOM! so much so, we're going back next weekend, hahahaha.... camping overnight this time. i've got a seminar to attend in SF, so it works out great to visit my hubby as well. got back on tues night, and i'm so glad this week's a short week due to memorial day... coz i've got some serious zzzzz-ing to catch up on.

okie 'nuff about me... the dresses look DIVINE, girls! maddcow - *whistle* that CS is very nice, don't sigh about the black, imho any dark rich jewel tone would look beautiful! ooh, think sumptuous sapphire blues or winey burgundy reds... my mom has an deep emerald green CS that is my fav even after all these years... snippy, i echo everyone, that first halter neck is the One with my vote.... (sorry girl, you're not the only one with expensive taste, haha!) oh well, maybe you can nick into FH's stash of toys, ps2, comp games, whatever and sell it to finance your "hardcore" needs, eh? kekekeke.... i always threaten bodily harm to edward's toys whenever he's notty (or my need for gucci arises).

katgrrl - you're the Cooking Diva, i kowtow to you... you've GOT to share all those recipes one day.... hehehe, i love to cook and would love to take a peek at those pasta/quiche recipes, but am hopeless at baking... i wanna see your sweets recipes! maybe you can share them when your wedding tizzy is over?

aww, ashlee girl... hope you're feeling better, honey! it's a bummer to go through these ups and downs, but don't let it get too serious, ya? all of us brides go through it, but always hold on to the initial feeling you guys had when the wedding plans got started. and remember that we all wouldn't be on this forum if not for an honest excitement to move into this new phase of life. and your FH wouldn't make the commitments and go thru photoshoots and planning and all, if he didn't honestly want to marry you. you both made a decision to move your relationship a further step, and i think it's a beautiful thing.... everything else are just fluff problems that should be discussed but should never be allowed to get in the way of the Facts... girl, don't lose sight of the most important feelings you both had when you first came into this whole deal!

yeah, sometimes guys will not be as involved as we want them to be, or they will appear to be uninterested in the details and the "fun" you want to have in the process. but raise your hands anyone in this forum if our FHs and hubbies haven't at some point in time been uncooperative?!

okie lah, don't mean to sound so preachy (i am SUCH a married auntie!)... must be the poison ivy in my system (courtesy of Big Sur)... but drop me an email if you ever wanna chat okie?

Maddcow & Dewy
{{hugz}}
Thanks, I am fine (I think). Maybe I am just not used to having to put up with differences. Probably making a mountain out of a molehill. Yep, I should have more confidence in our relationship and kick out my insecurities.
happy.gif

Hi girls! how are all of u doing?
happy.gif

Dewy, glad to hear your voice around again! Camping out huh? Great fun! Hey, what did u 2 do, man? Tumbling about in poison ivy & being sleep deprived...
lol.gif
me bad...

Oooh, will be most happy to trade recipes 1 day. I've given Maddcow the tiramisu & low fat blueberry muffin recipes -let me know if u want them as well. Speaking of which, Maddcow, I once changed the blueberries to double choc & they turned out yummelicious. ..hehe, of course it wasn't exactly low fat after that ... Here's how. First, melt some dark choc over a simmering water bath, then mix the melted choc and white choc chips into the batter,

Ashlee.... how are u feeling now? u'know, since we're all individuals, there is bound to be differences between 2 persons. What matter are firstly, how fundamental are these differences and secondly, how are they reconciled. For FH & me, he's the outdoorsy sort while I'm a home cat, so we'd to compromise on how much we expect the other party to go out/stay home. Took awhle to do that though...

I remembered Suzxie going for pre-marital counselling that only took a questionnaire & an hour-long analysis by a counsellor. If u think it'd help, perhaps u'd want to contact Suzxie for details? If u need a listening ear & a shoulder, we're all here for u
happy.gif

katgrrl
dun think fiance is very pro counselling. Hmm... maybe will talk to him and see what he says.
Thanks for being so sweet.
happy.gif

Hellooooo

Katgrrl - if we live close to each other, we'll probably add on the pounds!

There are some other options besides counselling (even though I think speaking with someone professional helps): if anyone is looking for resources/ideas -

(1) I have a set of questions that my pastor sent - but of course, the view on marriage adopted is a biblical one. Sans the biblical chapters to look at, it was a hard questionnaire- FH and I expect lots of 'arguments' (lack of a better word) soon!

(2) The other thing that interests me is this book by David Keirsy which Anne (pastor's wife) recommended to me, title "Please Understand Me II - Temperament, Character and Intelligence". It helps you to see why you or your partner react in a certain way. I'm thinking of getting it from Amazon, it costs around US$16. There's also this book, "100 Hard Questions to ask before you say "I DO"' by Susan Piver that I read from Oprah's magazine. Haha, yeah, I'm fanatic about knowing THE ANSWERS
crazy.gif
But it can be very fulfilling - I want to walk down the aisle confident and radiant
proud.gif

Ashlee - you sounded better already!

Karen - sorry, I don't have either of those, I'm with AOL (free!) Check in more often (may not be a productive to your work) or just ask us to repeat ourselves (uh, not that brilliant too), or email us!

Maddcow, yeah, if we live close to each other, I'm quite positive we'll pile on the pounds and our hubbies will be chubby hubbies (doesn't Ben & Jerry have a flavour by that name?)

Ashlee, dun worry too much k?
happy.gif
O, didn't u buy a cheongsam online? do u need to alter it? the tailor who did mine is really affordable. She's at Tanjong Pagar plaza #02-17. If u need her number, just email me. I think she should be able to turn it around pretty fast...

Hi gals,

I'm not going to SG in June anymore. Instead, I'll be there in August to finalise all the wedding details and visit my future in-laws in Malaysia. Anyone will be in Sg at that time? Good to catch up then! =P
No progress in terms of the wedding preparation. Haven't decided on my makeup artist 'coz felt that it's still a bit early to do the trials. Flowers as well, thinking that I'll still have a bit of time. I do have some ideas re what type of posy that I'll get. So I'll just wait for the time to pass and then start working on the invitation in July/Aug period.
Ohh... and I'm getting a videographer for my SG reception even thought it's just a short event. Since it's not that expensive, around $400 for the whole night. I guess it's worth it. =)
I'm thinking of wearing a Peranakan Kebaya to send the guests off at the reception. All my malaysian friends think it's a bad idea 'coz I'm not tall and super skinny whereas my other friends think it's terrific idea. What do you guys think?
Oh... by the way, I've uploaded some of my pre-wedding shoots on the website, PM me if you are interested. [email protected]
I choose mainly indoor 'coz I think outdoor ones in Sydney would definitely be better.
JS: Not so sure where you can get those empty bottles. There are some wedding favours shops along Parramatta Road but not sure about the location. You can check it out at www.weddingcentral.com.au. I've got almost all my things from Sg 'coz it's cheaper over there. =P Good luck. If you like, you can contact me in Sydney when you are here. Please see above for my PM.

Maddcow
Hehe, yep, much better now. Will go check out the bookshop for that Susan Piver's book. Sounds interesting!
happy.gif

Katgrrl
Yes, I desperately need to alter my CS. It is at least two sizes too big! Urgh... dunno how it could possibly happen. How much did you pay? Yes, her no. please... or can I just pop in her shop and get it done?
happy.gif

Karen
Good bargain on the videography! Well done!
happy.gif

I think Kebaya is cool. If you want to achieve a more voluptuous figure to give yourself more confidence, just wear heavily padded bra (unless u are well endowed already! haha).

ashlee> glad you're feeling better! we'll be here to provide moral support. dewy is right, don't let the small stuff get to u. my FH is also not really helping out much with the planning. but whatever lah...guys. hell yesterday he didn't even want to go with me to shop for my wedding band. so i threatened to use our newly minted joint acct check card with his 2k tax refund to buy it. (muahhaha) but on to more exciting stuff. when are u leaving for SG? the date is creeping up!

hey btw who will be taking care of ashlee when u're gone? the quote we got was $360 for a month. kinda expensive?

karen> I PM'ed you! btw kebaya is a lovely idea. ashlee is right. me thinks it'll look good on a regular body. won't be able to fill the dress up if one is too skinny (hee). btw I am thinking of getting control underwear from spanx (http://www.spanx.com) to hold my tummy in and perk my behind up hehe. I hear its really effective especially when you're wearing a tight dress! I'm not going to be around in Aug
sad.gif
only for the month of July.

oooh another update. I got my wedding shoes this weekend!! will take pics later. they're gold and strappy with a diamante ball on. they didn't look good on the shelf but are gorgeous on! they are a tad expensive but the best part is the shade goes perfectly with both my WG and EG. can probably wear it with the kua too. and of course after the wedding. see...justified already!

Karen - ooh, kebaya sounds good! How skinny are you? I have a friend who was very petite and she wore a ballgown! but it looks so good on her due to the design - so I think ultimately any type of dress can look good on you as long as you make sure it highlights your assets. I think as long as you have a defined waistline, it shouldn't be a problem. Where can you find kebaya in Singapore - I'll send my bona fide shopping expert (my mom) to look at them for me...now you got me desiring for more dresses
happy.gif

ashlee - Oprah listed a few of the questions as a teaser, I'll send you an email just as a preview.

Snippy - wow, good for you on the shoes, remember to break them in over the next few weeks at home so your feet won't hurt on the actual day. $360 isn't that bad for a month, I think we got a $100 quote for thanksgiving weekend. If you want to, I can take care of Moxie for you - actually FH lives closer to you. I'll be making a trip to DC in mid-July, when are you leaving for SG? here's our cutie, as promised

289886.jpg

Hi gals,

For those who sent me an email, I've replied with the URL to my pre-wedding shoots. I just realised that I did a typo in my previous posting. I should be saying that I'm not tall NOR super skinny so people said I won't look good in paranakan kebaya. Hehehe... I wish I'm skinny but I'm not. =P But I'm quite happy to have ppl think that I'm super skinny... for a day...

Anyway... let me know what you think of the pics...

Gotta get back to work... talk soon..

Awww! Your baby is soooooooooo cute!!!! What's his/her name? What breed? Labrador? Is it still a pup?
I am trying to get another puppy but the breed that I want is only available in Germany and US. Not worth it to import from Germany leh, cos it will cost a lot and the pup can only come over six months later, by then no longer a puppy.

Sigh, ashlee will have to go to a kennel. We've already done the booking, they are not bad, but man, really pricey! Though not as pricey as Maddcow's kennel lah.
It costs £11.50 a day. We'll be away for three weeks. But luckily Dave's brother is sweet and said he would get Ashlee back when he comes back from Sg (he is away for only two weeks). So effectively, Ashlee only has two weeks of agony in the kennels. Sigh...

Well done on the shoes! Haha, ya right, as if you are going to wear only one pair of shoes throughout the day. So what is the damage to your bank account?

Karen gal
No lah, dun think kebaya will look too flattering on skinny gals. And I think height really doesn't matter when it comes to kebaya. (I haven't really met an extremely tall nonya before, but those I've seen look great in kebaya!)
Think you will look really good. Go for it gal!
And please send me link to see your pretty pix please? [email protected]
Thanks.

maddcow...awww you are too sweet! thanks for the offer! (xoxo from moxie too hehe) it probably will be too much trouble for you guys ... she's quite a handful
sad.gif
wow $100 for a weekend?? i asked around about the price ($360) and its supposedly really reasonable so we will go with them. the boarder is actually mox's breeder so we feel comfortable that she'll do a good job. we're going to miss our puppy *sniff* .... btw your doggie is such a cutie!! i wanna hug him (tho he'll hate it and struggle, yeah i'm shameless hehe) what's his name?

hi karen, you look gorgeous in the pix!
happy.gif
which studio did you use? I noticed your FH was wearing glasses in some pix. he looks quite different. for a moment I thought it was a different guy lol. btw I think you'll look good in a kebaya. must go for it! super skinny not nice lah hehe ...

where are the other ladies? katgrrl? ashlee? dewy? erhmm must be busy preparing for their weddings

hey ash! *waves* didn't see your post. guess we were on at the same time. you are looking at a bernese puppy? beware very big ok hehe but so cute as pups and majestic when they're adults. I know a breeder in Vermont. Haha you interested? anyway we want another dog too (very gian)! but gotta wait till we buy a place. *sigh* don't know when that will be! awww that is sweet of your BIL! ok lah the shoes weren't that ex... but now I am having buyers remorse. will send pics haha ..tell me if i should return hehe.

Isn't she cute? (yes, i sound like those gushing mothers) Her name's cinnamon. and not a pup, but our baby. FH picked her up from a pound - and sometimes we lament that we've never seen her as a puppy
sad.gif
. The people at the pound thought she was a beagle-mix. She likes to sit by the window and wait for either of us to come home. That's what she was doing in the picture - waiting for FH to come home. I waited for a long while to snap that shot - she was keeping an eye on me, knowing that I was up to something!

Snippy - why buyer's remorse? I can't see it very clearly, it looks like a naked shoe (hee, re naked dress that Carrie in SATC wore for the bus ad photoshoot). But if you don't think you like it enough - bring it back. God bless America's consumer sovereignty

!

Maddcow, your doggie's so sweeeet!!!
happy.gif
Aww... who can bear to leave such a darling baby behind??

Ashlee, the lady's name is Sharon at tanjong pagar plaza #02-17, 62277 866 Take the stairs in the middle from NTUC. I paid $100 for the workmanship which I thought was a steal. So I think alteration would be a lot less... Alternatively, there's another tailor who does alteration at Peninsula Shopping Centre, Tet Tailor (or something). He's very reliable and workmanship's great
happy.gif

Karen, I think a kebaya will look great especially if one's Not skinny
wink.gif
I always thought a kebaya needs some flesh to fill it out. Very sexy indeed! Oh, pls send me the link to your page! [email protected] thanks!

Snippy, congrats on finding The pair of shoes! I know how important they are to you
biggrin.gif
Oh yes, do break into your shoes as Snippy suggested. I thought mine was ok until I developed a blister towards the end of the shoot today.

We had a blast during our photoshoot today! Thank goodness the weather held up, for the sky looked a little threatening at one point. For those who haven't engaged their photographer, I strongly recommend The Pond, because Ngiap Heng's works are not formulaic unlike a few that we had seen.

snippy - ooh, i want to commiserate, send me those shoe pix! hehe... i'm sure they're beauties.

maddcow - your cinnamon is just the cutest, i want to hug him too! glad to hear he's not going to be left alone for too long... i can just imagine those pining eyes, awwwww.....

katgrrl - wah, congrats on your photoshoot! another big thing out of the way, can't wait to see your pics from there! were you very tired at the end? i was so exhausted coz it was like the hottest day ever. and i swear i got a tan after that. kekekeke.

okie girls, gotta run... been so busy with work these days coz i'm going on another business trip next week (to CA no less! yay, i get to see my honey again...) dread to see my inbox when i get back....

oppzy, noticed a typo in my earlier post. Snippy, I meant "as Maddcow suggested"

Dewy, hehe..we weren't that tired actually. In fact, the high from the day's shoot (which ended at 8:45 or so) spurred us to go for swensen's ice cream at 1am followed by prata & teh tarik
biggrin.gif
Haha, dieting will re-commence today ;) Enjoy your buz trip to CA!

Maddcow
Aww, she's sweet. Ashlee just lay around and sulk when either of us are not at home.
happy.gif

Katgrrl
Thanks for the info. Will call her when I get back to see how much she is going to charge for the alteration. Hope it is not going to be more than $50. If it is, then might as well get a new one! hehe...

No lah, Dhoby (Bernese Mountain Dog) got to wait lah. We just worked out our finances and realised we can't move for another three or five years. Sigh.
I am looking at BIEWER Yorkies! Hehe, they are basically yorkies but tri-colour. They are soooooooooo cute, I tell u! But too ex. Just checked with a breeder in Germany, just the air tix alone cost 600euros.
sad.gif

ashlee - do you mind telling me how much you paid for your cs? and from which store? www.eaststore.com quoted me US$200 (incl shipping) (expensive?) to custom-make my dress but I've to check with the Better Business Bureau here on whether they are a reliable e-company. They do accept Paypal which has buyer's protection program. A dressmaker here quoted US$500 just for labor - scary. I do like this one if I'm not going with the YSL design, but am wondering how I can prevent a boob-popping scene

eeee, i'm maddcow's echo... aiyoh, *SO CUTE!!!!* just look at that darling face! *hugz*

hmm, maddcow, i believe i checked them out as well (in addition to chinesemoods.com, goodorient.com and asiacloset.com), most of these online retailers are OK, but did you check their origins? i think some of them are from china direct, while others are a hongkong front, with a mailing address in the US. not to say they're dubious, but in case of returns or questions, the service is going to be a little more complicated. just to keep in mind. and i found that the actual quality, texture and color can sometimes turn out to be really unexpected, even though the picture looks great. it's not really a misrepresentation, but somehow the colors are richer on screen or the roughness of the fabric weave doesn't show up till you actually see it for yourself. do you have time to get it tailored in singapore? i believe some dressmakers will do it for you quick, and definitely less than the USD500. i still think getting one tailormade might be better, at least you can pick out the material yourself and get it fitted till kingdom come... you don't want to have last minute dress panick attacks when the item arrives in the mail! (i made a smartass decision to do that as a "backup" CS, and ended up returning it anyway... mine was an OTR so it was returnable, but i believe the custom dresses can't be returned....)

my two cents...

thanks for your feedback. I'm concerned as well. this one's from china/shanghai. FH is checking on the background. We thought that we should just have it made in New York's Chinatown - save all the hassle. There are at least 3 dresssmakers there, including Shanghai Tang.
