Hi Clara,

my email add is sherlyn2_yap at hotmail. com so send me email and I'll tell you all about perth :p

Anyone who's planning a wedding in oz and having a catholic church wedding as well? can you let me know which churches you're looking at? My FH is catholic and I'm not and I don't really know which churches to go to besides St Theresa's which is very popular and booked out 10months before AD!

And good news! My parents finally got used to the idea of having an outdoor wedding under a marquee..woohoo...

Hi Clara and Sher
happy.gif
,

Seems like my bf definitely wants an engagement party! haha I don't see the point of it cos to me its like organizing one more wedding party :p But it seems like he's quite a traditional guy..he seems to wanna do everything nicely. As for parents, I kinda decided I won't tell them about the wedding until we've booked everything already. Lesson learned from what my younger sis did of telling him then dragged for like 2 years till now not married. My poor dad so anxious to see a wedding happens!

Sher, its interesting to hear you say that shipping furnitures and tiles over from SG is cheaper! Did you go to normal furniture shops in SG? Personally, I love the peranakan type tiles and would one day like to implement them into our future home. P.S I'm gonna google what's a marquee.

By the way, its funny but I just found out that two singaporean friends in Melbourne are this site's members. They are Emilia and Claire, I remember seeing the singapore brides gathering in one of their pictures on facebook

Maybe you girls were there too.

Hi Liz,

I would say he'll want an engagement party. But it won't have to be a big one. My friends booked a function room at a club, someone had it as a backyard bbq so its really up to you.

We've been engaged for..omg...close to 3 years and we're planning for a wedding in 2010..but fiance's parents only started asking/pressurising us about a month of so ago :p We were traumatised after seeing his sister's wedding. So much fighting and tears etc etc..

Liz - I haven't had a chance to check out any furniture shop in sg..we have another 8-10 months before the house is ready so we've got time and just exploring options. Perth is like a kampung..we dont get as much stuff as melbourne and sydney and everyone buy from the same furniture shop. I don't mind even if it doesn't work out cheaper, designs will at least be diff from everyone else!

Marquee is pretty much a tent...i should be using nanyanginc and they have a website with lots of pictures.

Bridal shower = hens' night? I'm not too sure but it doesnt bother me. The boys might have a bucks night and it usually involves strippers! :p

I will only be taking my wedding photos in perth towards the end of the year and thats about it. My fiance's family are mostly over east so there's no point doing anything here. Everything will be done in singapore.

no bridal shower is not hens' night..
its a tea time with cakes and nice food at home and you only invite ladies to bridal shower and in return you receive gift that you write on a list..

like gift related to kitchen and all that..
i not having hens' night too hes not having any bucks night.. infact both of us not interested of such thing.
he been to one bucks night before his friend got marry.. he felt disgusted by the stripper (he told me that he got there late so he didnt see the whole thing)

he just dont see the point of having a stripper
secondly both of us are very jealous pple so we agree that no hens' and bucks night!

Sher i think you must be sure that you wont get jealous if you think you will you better tell him how you feel 1st! because i know that i cannot accept it.. i dont like the image of my fiance looking at some stripper taking off clothes. (many girls said its okay let the guy have some fun but actually its not that true)

takecare!

Hi Sher, thanks for your sharing! Ya my bf will definitely want an engagement party, we just have to try keep everything under budget. He counted number of people to invite to a wedding on his side.. its about a 100! I got only maybe less than 20 people to invite. Just shows the difference in our personalities - super sociable vs quiet.

My friend Claire in Melbourne said the aussies they invited to Singapore blown their budget by drinking 12 barrels of beer instead of two.. so girls beware..

Clara, interesting to hear you both agree not to have hens' and bucks night. It is quite an uncomfortable idea. I feel it all comes down to how both people see it and how strong a relationship is. Personally I don't think I would do one that has all the masculine guys etc. I planned to go on a trip with my best friend back in SGP to Japan before the wedding. Since I'm gonna be stuck in aust for a long time if I settle here, I'd rather spend some time with her!

heheheh.

Welcome to everyone else who are new here. Been trying to get into this forum for days without avail. something must have happened to the puter at home.
My wedding in Oz was very simple.. only 28 came and I was not engaged at all. We also decided to only after having a lengthy discussion, tired of moving inter-country and there were no romantic proposal at all! It was scientific logic/ natural progression unfortuantely. So i always tell girls that were proposed that they are very lucky.

Yeah.... Clare is fine we all going for lunch at NOBU on Saturday and she bought herself a home!

Chris and me are 'migrating' to Brissy. Chris is already there but I will soon join him end of the month. Have to quit my job and frantically trying to get a new job there in Brissy before the major recession kicks in. We drove passed Sydney last week to bring the car over- 1800km we drove...but sorry that i cant call u and say hi... it was a very chopchop trip! :p hehehehha

Its 39 degrees today and the sun is shining like madness... slip-slop on everyone-Summer is finally here in Melbourne!

OH YA.... Congratulations to Corrine aka DE-LUXE.. for giving birth to baby boy JOHAN!

Congrats De_luxe on your little bundle of joy!

Hi Sher - which churches in Singapore are you looking at having your church wedding?? Have you done the Marriage Prep Course?? heheh My husband to be is Catholic.... Anyway, I am based in Perth too!

Clara, you are sooo lucky to be able to have the wedding in your htb's high school chapel. I so wanted to do that, but the Archbishop (Catholic) says that we are only able to have our nuptials in a parish church... so there went that idea... How is work going for you so far?? Hope you are coping alright

Who do you go for to print your invites? When is your big day anyway?

I'm only heading back to Singapore next in August for the next stage of planning.

Why don't you consider going down South to have some nice pictures taken? Like at Busselton? Its quite pretty there!

Hi Liz (sheep_in_sydney): My HTB and I live in Sydney too
happy.gif
.

Will be getting married in Nov 09 in Sg and am finding planning for the wedding from here hard work as we cannot just pop into the bridal boutique or check out the different florists, or hunt around for a cheap (and good) printer for our invites, or look for wedding accessories... the list goes on.

We have been here in AU for 9 years now and think maybe its time to go back to Sg. We have a house here and all, so the thought of moving everything back is another nightmare...sighs....

Emilia, yo.. haha ya I was just doing research on internet and accidentally found this site! Brissy means brisbane ah.. not bad queensland is quite nice loh.. sunny most the time. Kinda cool you guys seem always to be on the move, its something I like to do as well..can't seem to get rid of my itch to travel! Anyway about getting married, its a totally strange feeling cos I still feel like a kid! Everything that is to be planned seems so 'adult' and surreal. We checked out some rings last weekend.. I'm not crazy about diamonds but they seems to be the standard thing? :p guess just make sure they're not from africa..

happy.gif
Hi baby-jah, nice to know someone else live in Sydney. Ya when I think about the list of things to do from here it gives me headache. 9 years is a long time indeed. (I miss home all the time even though I haven't been here long.) Perhaps once you start planning the move, everything will slowly fall into place. Taking a step at a time helps ease the nightmare. Is your hubby to be a Singaporean too?

Sigh.. I like to apply for my PR first (I'm on 457 visa.) Which if I do I can't fly back to plan the wedding often as they may replace my 457 with a bridge visa. Visa woes..

Hi Clara - EVERYONE in Perth get their wedding photos taken at Kings Park, UWA or Cottesloe..but they are really nice locations for photos..

Hi Charmaine - Might want to try Jacksons Art Supplies (Subiaco or City) or this shop on oxford street in leederville (next to the Re Store) for papers. If I'm not wrong, Spotlight might have some as well
happy.gif
I've realised that Ebay seems to have lots of little stuff for weddings as well and are a lot cheaper so might want to try and find stuff like ring pillows etc etc

Babyjah - Its nice to know someone else is finding it hard to plan a wedding in SG from here! I'll be back in sg for cny and have lined up a list of appointments for wedding gowns, caterers, geomancy guy to choose the wedding dates etc etc. I rely a lot on this forum to get info about cheap and good florist, bridal shops etc so I have a whole list of suppliers I trust

I miss Perth!!!!! Used to live there before coming over to Sydney...sigh busselton was beautiful...

Liz, yes, HTB is singaporean, but we haven't confirmed moving back yet.We just miss home alot and think it is something we really wanna do. But if we do move, then another nightmare begins...organising the move and man we have so many, many things and furniture...I cannot imagaine the headache of packing this house up...also must find place to live in Sg.

When is your AD Liz? Have you secured the big ticket items yet like bridal boutique, dinner venue etc?

I find that the engagement / wedding rings here in Sydney expensive and not as nice compared to Sg /KL (my humble 2 cent opinion). We checked out about 4-5 jewelers in the CBD (including tiffany's and hardy brothers),then went to KL and Sg to compare when we were home for christmas. We ended up buying my engagement ring from KL...much much cheaper: to give an idea of pricing: one of the shops here quoted: 0.78 carat, F color going at $11,800 AUD. and I found this to be the average price here through the reputable jewelers. We bought mine: 1.01 carat, D color, triple excellent cut, brilliance and something else for even less than that above price in AUD (with GIA ert). Alot of difference for about the same price!

Hi Sher.

I wanna go home for CNY too but can't
sad.gif
.This is the last opportunity to collect ang pows!!!!!!In fact, I cant even remember the last time I did make it back for CNY. maybe 5 years ago. So sad!

We did go home over Christmas though , and in that 1 week we were there ran around like mad chooks checking out the bridal studios, confirming the dinner venue and photographer. Next trip back will be to secure the florist and cards.

When is your AD? Yah, better secure the big ticket items when you go back at CNY, my photographer told me not to wait too long to book the various services (cause its so hard to organize from here and I am taking my own sweet time
happy.gif
)as they get taken very very quickly and way way way in advance, and like he said to me, "there is only 1 Edmund Leong" (he's our PG) and so if he is taken for the day want him, we beg and cry also cannot get him.

Hi Babyjah,

AD will be sometime between Mar-may 2010..i thought i had a lot of time but i was wrong! We're having an outdoor marquee wedding at fort canning so I'm glad I don't have to fight with everyone for the hotel ballroom. We're going back in May and I didn't realise that might be the only time i have to take my wedding photos in sg! i'll be checking out whitelink and ted wu when i get back and their package includes make up artist and photographer which saves up a lot of hassle.

I found a freelance florist and heard lots of praises for her. Cheap and good..will have to dig it out of my computer for you. As for cards, lots of people/hotel go through T Dragon or a short ride to JB (city sqaure). Results of hours of research on this forum!

Sher,

We are going with Silhouette for the WG. Its a M2M and HTB's suit is also M2M. We were originally planning to have the photoshoot in March 09, but found out that we will need at least 2 fittings to get the suit and gown perfect. As such we have to organise another trip back in June / July to do the shoot because they need at least 1 week after the 1st fitting, and maybe 24-48 hours after the 2nd fitting, before being able to wear them out for the photoshoot. Unfortunately due to work commitments, we can't stay in Sg for 2-3 weeks to get the alterations / fitting done and then do the photoshoot after that.

Maybe you would like to check with the studio you are getting your gown from how quickly they can alter / do the fittings for you
happy.gif
.

It is nice not to have to fight with anyone for your venue.hehehe. Apparently (I have been told) 86 creations is a wholesaler, so their flowers and arrangement services are cheaper than some of the other florists out there...I have their contact and when I check them out in March, will let you know if they are ok

Are you able to let me know whats included in your Silhouette package and price? Did you see any nice lace gowns when you're there?

I heard Ted Wu's really nice and reliable. Kevin Seah's pretty good but gown itself is at least $5K if i'm not wrong so it really depends on your budget.

Whitelink offers overseas photoshoot in Perth so I'm pretty interested in finding out whats included and if its easier to go through them as I want my wedding photos done in perth anyway

Clara: im not a big fan of winter, but must say Perth's winters are nicer (warmer) than Sydney's winters...We are still deciding whether or not to keep the gown: since it is M2M, its ours till after wedding, we can take it, use it, clean it as many times as we want to from now till the wedding. I think we have to top up $500 to keep the gown. Still deciding cause I dont want it to just collect dust, but then I know I will miss my gown and want to hold it again sometime in the future...hehehe. So still up in the air.

Sher, Im taking a double layer chantilly lace a-line gown with a pretty long train from Sil
happy.gif
. The package I took is no longer avail (it was only till 31st Dec 08) but am sure they have new packages all the time. PM me and I'll let you know my package. Im not sure if we are allowed to post packages and all on this forum in the open. (im more than happy to share with anyone though!). My email addy: [email protected]

FH is in Perth and I am missing him terribly. We have finally decided, after much discussion, to hold the wedding in Perth in our house.

And I will be moving back to good ol'Perth permanently.

Well, let me know if anyone needs some coordination in Singapore, I will be happy to help if time permits.

They do have great pastry, but I do not recommend bringing it on the plane back to Sg...everytime I did that, the pastry loses its fluff and the whole strudel collapses on itself and becomes abit flat. But that was about 6 years ago...How's the weather in Perth? Its scorching here in Sydney.

Hello Everyone! Happy Chinese New Year!!

I'm back from my trip and its been very fruitful! Clothing is so much cheaper and many shops are offering 40-50% off storewide. Some jewellers were offering 60% off wedding bands! Oh and my favourite charles and keith..i can never get enough of that shop!

So for the wedding stuff, I'm very thankful that I did all my research through this forum and didn't have to run around much. We checked out Four Seasons Hotel and its so beautiful. The bridal suite's newly renovated (Oct/Nov 08) and its gorgeous. My parents came along as they've attended a few weddings last year and they agree that it is a good choice. Good service, good food, responsible co-ordinator and lots of nice areas for pictures. So thats the reception sorted out.

Met with David Tong, the guy who calculates the wedding dates and it hasn't been very favourable for us. We were given a few dates and finally settled on 24/7/2010 so that gives us ample time!

Next was the bridal shop. First stop was Whitelink. We went there on the first day they're open after cny so they threw in a lot of freebies into the package. We saw a few dresses and their workmanship's pretty good. So well, signed up with them and made an appt to go to their warehouse in eunos to check out wedding gowns. I was really nervous!! Got hubby to try his suits first so that gives me time to calm my nerves! I told my co-ordinator (who's really patient) about what i'm after and she brought out a few full lace gowns. I tried the 2nd one and that was it. It was beautiful! Cos I'm having a church wedding, she chose all the gowns with a 2m train and it was heavy and really long! Maybe cos the wedding's in 18 month's time. There will be new gowns/designs but it feels a lot easier knowing that I've found something that I'm happy to settle for.
