(2012) 2012 Brides to be

Hi Sandz! Thanks. I'm surfing around the sg brides website and it seems a headache to plan!

Are you a 2012 bride as well?

glossie:
Helo! Welcome to 2012 brides~ =D
its never too early to plan weddings for you can have more time to understand the overview of the whole process, improving it and making it the best! =)

Mag:
oo~ thats very coincident! =) my hubbe's currently based @ changi. LoL~

glossie (glossie) , Baobei (baobaobei)
Hello and welcome!!!

Baobei (baobaobei)
Its your wedding your once in a lifetime. Go with your heart. Garden will be botanic garden, choose a date with no events and its better to be afternoon, just a suggestion. =) Cheers!

To all,
I believe if the guest list is well prepared, there wont be cases like small ang bao. My Hubby is from SAF if happen to be inviting NSF we are preparing to treat them.

Wedding Dinner is actually a treat for our relatives and friends. Their ang bao is just a blessing. I agree with prisci11a (prisci11a) that not everyone can pack big ang baos.

But i still need to say $1, $2, that guy really dare!! Hats off. haha

Gen (happigg)
5K is my own budget for my ladies part only. Guys will be my hubby problem lo.. hehe.. 5K for pre wedding photos and GDL should be more then enough. I'm not printing album.

glossie (glossie)
Its never too late to plan for wedding. I started planning in Oct 2008. Thought of having my ROM and AD in 2012 when my home is ready. After some research and fate i am already Mrs Seet. Hehe.. Now planning for my new home, Pre-wedding photo and AD. Totally agree with Jazz (jasangelic), thats why we are here in this forum. =)

Wooo.... HAPPY 2010... I'm so happy!!!!!
Haha...

Jazz:
Thanks for the warm welcome. Will probably need a lot of tips and guidance from u girls!

Baobei :
hihi, botanic gardens sound really nice and romantic! I'm considering an outdoor wedding, but cant decide between lunch vs dinner and indoor vs outdoor!

Chinkerina:
I'm also planning to reno my htb's place. I'm just looking for banquet ideas..cant decide between indoor/outdoor or lunch/dinner. Might have to go with lunch..since i wont have so many tables. I prefer it to be an intimate event, can spend more on food! Haha.

Hello chinkerina & glossie & Sandz !!

chinkerina & glossie: we are looking at Villa Hilia located in the botanical garden. Have not been there before. will try to go down and take a look one of these days.

sandz: we are still balloting for house. no luck yet..

been a while since i'm here.busy with work!

welcome Glossie...good to plan early so got lots of time to do research

we are planning to do ROM and customary dinner in 2012.ROM on a weekday and a simple customary dinner on the weekend.yet to do any concrete sourcing for venues yet.all our research are just based on website surfing

Hi chinkerina,
Seems like both of us gotta save lottttsss of $$$, as we have house & wedding together =)
You mention that you gotta ROM n AD in 2012, u getting re-sale flat or BTO?

BaoBei,
Botanic Garden - Hilia is a nice place, but i think the price is quite steep.

You can also try
-a restuarant near Pasir Ris, is by the beach one .. I forgot the name already is quite popular for outdoor ROM.

-Hort park is a new place for outdoor ROM too =)

-I had mine @ Carlton Hotel ,both indoor and outdoor =)

Good luck with ur ballot ya, New BTO coming out soon in CCK ..

Baobei,

Can also consider My secret garden? Or my dream spot, Le Amis Au Jardin at Botanica Garden....

I saw a solemnization there over the weekend, so pretty!!

Gen / Jazz / Chinkerina,

Early planning means we can save up to cover for the $2, $8.88 or $30 ang pows....hahaha

Gals,

Any body know how does a Teochew wedding work?
I was jiemei for my fren's and we had to go to and fro due to timings and tea ceremony.. It was too exhausting and my HTB is also a teochew... so i'm hoping there is a short cut... heee

eg:
0630 depart bride's place
0700 reach new house and pray
0845 reach groom's house
0930 got take photos
1000 go to groom place for bride to change clothes
1030 go to bride's home for tea ceremony
1200 go to groom's home for tea ceremony

Hi Prisc,
I was a jiemei for one of my fren wedding, the hubby follow teochew de.
I think timing was quite important to them, but we dont realli rush to and fro.

Your schedule damn chop chop lei.
0930 take photos? meaning... only half an hour for outdoor pictures??
Very short wor

Hi prisci11a,

Congrats! Do you have some photos to share on your ROM? can PM me.

As for the teochew wedding, from what i know is that the bride needs to reach the groom house at a specific timing and its usually very early. Usually not really rushing to and fro but maybe u have to decide how u want the flow to be on that day.

I'm now trying to source for a venue for my ROM. Got some quotation from Mandai Orchid Garden and find that their prices are quite steep. Have not heard from Villa Hilia yet after my email to them. ..

prisci11a:
can say so to cover up for the $2 ++ ang baos! haha!
I heard teochew traditional are very particular 1. similar to cantonese if im not wrong.

Villa Halia is nice!!
I am considering Grand Corpthorne WaterFront for my banquet. Anyone went there for wedding dinner b4?

Hi Jazz,

I heard from my fren that the $2 ang pow has struck again!! She got a $2.00 ang pow at her wedding!! no name on the ang pow so they are still guessing who that was...

Baobei,

Haven ROM, planning to do it on AD. I saw somebody else's solemnization at Au Jardin..

Sandz / Jazz,
The schedule i quoted was from my fren's wedding, we were running here and there, it was tiring day as her jiemei!! I still dunno how she drag herself around in her long train gown for the first part of the morning!!

Hi All ,
Haven't been here for quite some time . I hope I didn't miss out a lot
happy.gif

Jazz: I went to Grand Corpthorne WaterFront for a wedding lunch around 1.5 years back. If I didn't remember wrongly, the food was not bad compared to some others that I went to.Deco was not bad too
happy.gif

pris:
=O S$2.. i think we cant really prevent such things from happening. LoL! we have to be prepared also.

Actually i think on AD bride very tired 1. Worst if the previous night didnt really sleep well, the next morning still have to be at the tip top condition and have to =) all the way. Omg!
During my ROM i already feel quite tired i cant imagine if tis AD.

But i think it might be that they follow the auspicious timing tightly. maybe we can check out a much more flexible timing for the procedures for our AD. Like that we wont tire ourselves out.

Gen:
Thankew! =) I hope the package for 2012 is within our budget. Heh. I like the view from the rooms. Can see the river instead of cars all around if i choose orchard area. =D

glossie (glossie) & Baobei (baobaobei)

I went to the birdpark last sunday for the hollywood dino. Saw a poster, wedding at birdpark. Its special, but i believe its expensive.

Sandz (sasandy)
I mention that i plan for ROM and AD and House in my 1st draft. In Sep 2009 my hubby and I got ROM le.. hehe..

I getting BTO Coral Spring (SengKang) will be ready for collection in Mid 2011. 5th storey @ 250K.

Need to save up for AD and Reno.. My head is getting bigger...

prisci11a (prisci11a)
Its go to Groom plce for tea ceremony 1st then Bride. Suggestion, Breakfast to be taken at Groom Place, Lunch at Brides.

Yes sorry to say that TeoChew, Brides have to reach by 7am so that wont meet up with (BAI SHI) on the road.

Tradition only Canotnese play door crashing games others don't.

Actually Tea Ceremony can be on another days, in old days when there is no car,tea ceremony is held on different days. Singapore is small and transport so good thats why become got (AD) thing.

To all,

If your going for hotel take note of C-pth-rn- K-ng's Restuarant. Correct me if i'm wrong. Anyway been to this TIAN CHU 2 times, food is not nice and alot of pillars.

hey it's mag85 here I'm back~ looks like i miss alot.
think something happen to my old account, cant login anymore

i went before Grand Corpthorne WaterFront, agree with chinkerina. food not bad but too many pillars le.

Rina & mag:

you went to the ballroom itself?! or just the restaurant? I think i gotta make a trip down to take a look at it. i saw the pictures from the website it has got no pillars. haha!

Jazz,

I was telling my HTB that we target about 20% of unpaid tables.. at the moment, its going to cost us $6000, based on our budget @ 1k/table budget... hee

I hope my MIL is not so particular on the timing like my fren, otherwise i think i will die...

No sleep, running all over the place and having to smile all day and night, i think i will look v plastic... hahaha....

So far, most of my frens photos all looked quite good in the morning but start to look quite stone, operating on auto pilot, when it came to taking photos at all the guests tables.... hahaha.

btw, anybody planning to go to BOWS?

Pris:
I agree with you too. Now that the banquet prices are rising, and likely not all guests will increase based on the market rate. Hence, prepare more deficit is better.

My htb targets per table about 900 onwards. Now that we've seen the prices for 2011, i guess the rates will shoot up even higher on 2012. Hopefully by then we can get good perks too! =)

Actually my in-laws asked us not to have banquet, take the $$ go honeymoon instead. But both my htb and i wanted the banquet, plus the pressure i get from my parents.

I think cos tis our big day, even if we're tired, we will still smile till our ends meet =) hehe. cos once in a lifetime right!?

BOWS! i most likely will be going =)

mag:
hmm i think we're gg for the ballroom instead. we'll see how it goes. maybe towards mid-year we'll drop by see see look look. =)

so far we have yet to choose dates for AD. But hope to do it in dec thou. cos most of us are in holiday mood already! haha! and i can get more offs in dec from my ofc. i think my htb and i will go ask for the dates then thereafter decide on the choices given.

my mom was saying by right is the guy side do all this things. but i think i rather go see myself first and hope i can get a date that suits everyone. =)

how bout you?

ehh.. pan pac's food is good. i've heard numerous positive comments on them.

right now im still considering which hotel to choose from. But i guess pan pac is quite high end now. so maybe not =)

Anyone considering abt the Crown ? The one @ T3. . The ballroom looks nice , was wondering about the food =)

Im quite keen on Grand park, their food is very good =)

Sandz:
Crowne's ballroom is good but tis not a very big ballroom thou. it can accomodate bout 20++ tables. i went there once and the ambience was excellent! and the theme of your wedding plays a big part too~ my colleague had the mystique black theme. Food was good too! thumbs up! =)

grand park @ city hall?! hows the ambience there?! heh. have never been there b4.

hey jazz,
I din know the ballroom can only cater for so little tables. I need at least 30 tables =(

Yea,, The grand park is near Penisula Plaza there, very nice place. Not much pillar
I think they will have another hotel @ Orchard in few yrs time - the one opposite paragon!

sandz:
i confirmed with my colleague. the max is 28 tables. =S

oh! the 1 opposite paragon! they're renovating the whole hotel. i wonder if you're in time for your wedding if you wanna get the 1 @ orchard.

think the main concern is the pillars. but at times although tis a pillarless ballroom, the decors might block the views as well. =S

Haha! lets hope not. else we gonna b fighting for the place. if tis a different ballroom dats perfect! but hope we dont hit right on the spot by fighting for the same ballroom on the exact same date. Hoho!

Bestest luck to us!! =D hope we can get our ideal venue and date. =)

Jazz,

fingers cross on the price increases... i got some feed back from hotels, general increase between $30 for Orchard hotel to $60 for Sheraton... I also did some comparison on 2009-2011 prices...

Ur in-laws soo nice to offer not having the banquet, my mil already tell me is very impt that we have a big dinner cos htb is first of the family to get married.

I went to see Sheraton's ball room, not very ideal
sad.gif
L shape ball room and stage at the awkward corner....

I also met Haze from Orchard hotel, nice ger and they seem to be quite flexible...

Anybody narrowed down on the places they want to have their dinner...?

Jazz:
hopefully not.

prisci11a:

my mil dont really want a dinner, but is my side of family want it, and got to be big enough to have the people they want invite.

i had a dinner in shraton's ballroom.. really cannot make it. dont even know where the bride and groom coming in from.

so far only Conrad, Intercontinental and The regents

Mag,

Ya, the co-ord tell me that i can choose to come in from any of the entrance..zzz...not very formal feeling..

Regent food is good, been to 4 or 5 wedding dinners there all good
happy.gif

Conrad is ultra nice ball room, food is good too!!

I dunno about intercontinental..

Hi all!

I'm new here, was surprise to see this section. haha, as i thought normally couples will only plan their wedding one yr b4. But I quite kan-jiong spider as i want my wedding to be as memorable as possible therefore if possible i want to plan earlier and enjoy the process.

Btw, i got afew question to clarify:
1) do any1 know is it a custom for a bride to pay for the her husband ring?
2) What do the lady have to pay for the wedding?
3) Has any hotel open their booking for 2012?
4) Any1 plan to attend marriage preparation course?

haha, thank in advance!!
happy.gif

pris:
wow! imagine it goes up till 1300+ per table. omg!
yep my in-laws want save the hassle and asked us use the $ for honeymoon. actually im considering this factor but i have to consider my parents' side as well. like whether they wan a banquet or not. my mom was commenting that we should hold as my hubbe's the only son in the family, no brothers lol!

as for banquet, i have to consider some other factors currently. if we managed to get the bto, we might lower our budget. either @ country club or grand corpthorne waterfront, or do it @ restaurants or even just have a buffet. if lets say we dint managed to get the bto, i think we can look into hotels like mandarin (marina or meritus) or goodwood park, etc.

anyone went to york hotel b4? that was our initial choice.

mag:
yeah lets keep our fingers crossed! hehe.

karen:
helo karen! here goes:
1 & 2) i think tis up to the couple. some might pay for each other's ring some guys might pay all. as for the wedding, it also depends. but normally i think the couple will share the costs. unless the bride's parents are forking out the table $$. different couples different arrangements. so it depends on your discussion with your hubbe.

3) so far i guess not yet. maybe towards the end of the year some hotels might open it. but should be for early part of 2012. unless they have some promotions.

4) hmm. nope. =)

have you guys went to check the auspicious dates out already?

Hi Jazz!

Thanks for your comments
happy.gif
well, I'm a hokkien married to teochew. My future mil was saying that she might give 5 tableS to us ( heard frm my bf) which I think is too little. And we both chose hotel as our venue however his mum comment that it's too "expensive" say choose restaurant better. Haix, so headache. Think she is trying to be fair to my hubby's brother who is shot gun marriage cuz they got no time to then chose restaurant. But it's too ridiculous. Problematic mil, anyone faces the same problem?

Btw our house will be ready by 2012.

Karen:
np! =D

well.. i think just take the 5 and pay for the other tables that you need. but ultimately, i guess your parents have to make the decision. when your future mil goes your house to "ti qin", that is where both parents will discuss on it.

as for the venue, if both u and ur htb wants to hold it @ hotel, maybe your htb can have a chat wif his mom bout it.

what matters most is all parties are happy and agreeable with the arrangement. =) like that all can enjoy the event to the fullest.

wheres the location of ur love nest?!

Hi Karen,

I also hokkien marry teochew...
happy.gif

wat i think is this, as much as we will like to plan everthing our way, a wedding is really for the family, so have to work out on compromise...
Cos end of the day, we don't want a lousy start to a long life together, right...

Maybe look out for cheaper hotel so that at least there is a compromise on price.. just my thought...

Every bride got different problems
happy.gif

Jazz,

Yup... it could come to that
sad.gif

Actaully MM pricing is still ok, as long as dun end up in mandarin court, stair case look scary... u got a big wedding?

pris:
mandarin court is the restaurant? or one of the ballrooms? i havent really do research on MM so far cos i feel that prices are rather steep for Marina Mandarin. I think i need bout 30+ table. so we can choose most of the restaurants and hotels. which in turn became a big headache! haha.. too mani to choose from.

Jazz,

I was referring to Meritus mandarin. They got 2 venues. Mandairn court is the smaller venue w mx of 22 tables. The ball room can take up to 55 tables...

Mandarin court is on 3 levels downward to the stage... not the most ideal place, but it actually looks quite nice for photos...
happy.gif

But i am actaully aiming for the ball room... 2009 and 2010, $888++ for saturdays.. no increase.. so fingers cross that they dun increase for 2011 or 2012 yet .. hee

I spoke to Marina Mandarin and they are really not flexible at all for min 45 on saturday, so i'm quite turned off by them..

eh? meritus i went b4. but i think i went to the 55 tables ballroom. hmm. pricing wise not bad.. ya hopefully it doesnt change man. but with the opening of the grand park hotel opposite i think prices might be quite competitive.

wow! i dint know marina mandarin has got a min of 45 tables. thats not flexible man. but i heard the prices are quite high.

Jazz: yep true, but I'm afraid my future mil will "eat" us, haha cuz my parent very easy going and somemore I'm from a big family (60+ relatives). Excluding my Indonesian relatives. So I'm afraid my side guests will be more than the guy side. :s. For the venue wise, my hubby is very supportive he also think that we shd held in hotels but I told him to choose table which cost abt 1k otherwise very xiong. Hmmm, our future nest will be in Yishun :D

Pris: yep, I also afraid of having conflicts with my in laws. Well seems like most hotels are very ex, and by 2012 I'm afraid I can't find any which cost 1k per table
sad.gif
. So do u have any place in mind?

Oh ya, do any brides here know where got sell "wedding diary/planner" which I can take note of all the little stuff? The cost and everything?

Jazz,

I was thinking of grand park as well... hahaha.. cos it's a new hotel.. So will wait to see what they are like.

Karen,

M hotel is less then 1k. OH promo was really good for Q1 / Q2 2011. After discount, table cost less then 1k with free flow wine / beer.
Will need to see what is their new offer for 2012.
I got a spread sheet from another BTB, i can forward it to you?

Karen:
eh 60 tables is really alot!! heh i also have relatives from Indonesia! =D which part was it?! who knows our relatives might be neighbours! haha!

actually for the bride side, unless you really wan to invite all your relatives, or else you can filter. like my case, i will only invite the relatives (whole family) who are closer to us. the rest i plan to invite the elderly only. you might be thinking if you do so some of your relatives wont be very happy but my mom told me becos we're the bride side so we can actually filter. tis the groom side who have to invite almost all his relatives.

lucky your hubby is supportive. =D hmm yishun. my friend having her flat done too! hers is dew spring i guess.

hmm wedding diary.. not that ive heard of. but maybe u can try the below webbie for the wedding checklist. =)

http://www.vertex42.com/ExcelTemplates/wedding-checklist.html

pris:
i think hor.. grand park's pricing might be quite high too.. who knows it might be on par wif st regis. l0l.

M hotel is nice! but i think by 2012 should hit 1k already. i think we can try those wedding shows to get better perks from the hotels we wan. =)

Pris & Jazz:

haha, don't gt mistaken I mean 60+ relative = +/- 6 tables. Well my indo relative if I'm not wrong they stay near java? I visited them once when I was ard 3 yrs old, haha. Yep Jazz, mine is dew spring too! Have u both gotten your flats? Btw my email add is [email protected].

Actually I did consider furama too, heard that it's cheap.

thanks thanks
