The Fullerton Hotel Singapore

I just had food tasting session for my wedding at The Fullerton Hotel, Straits Room.
My food tasting session was at "Jade restaurant" with normal restaurant table setting. It is not even in the function room only our family.
To my knowledge, food tasting session not simply free meal. It is also to evaluate and feel the actual day environment including full table setup and tasting of food.
Based on weddingtweet.com post, "Your hotel wedding coordinator or banquet manager will usually be present to discuss the dishes with you"

My Coordinator was Ms. Wendy Lim and she didn't even show up on the day. She just simply instructed us to go to Jade restaurant and have dinner there which I think is ridiculous. Fullerton is 6 stars hotel and the service they have given to us was shocking to us.
I have been to food tasting session at Fullerton Hotel last time for my friend's wedding and my company event, it was in the seperate function room and served by banquet staffs and attended by Banquet Captain. The coordinator leaded us to the room and presented at the end of the tasting session.

Was any one of your food tasting at Jade Restaurant? In the Jade restaurant without proper table setting as actual day?
I have requested to change my coordinator and now it's Ms.Violette. However, she needs to try hard to build up my trust for Fulleton Hotel's standard of service.
I hope my actual day in January wouldn't go wrong.

I emailed Fullerton on some enquries and tried to arrange meetups with the coordinator (wendy). Find that she's very slow in her responses, the last email we have sent was more than a week ago and we have not heard from her since.

Actually when I was choosing my banquet location, I did manage to meet with Wendy on a Sunday. She did respond quite fast to my enquiries too. Perhaps she is on leave? Otherwise, I found her service quite good. On the day of the meetup, she showed us around the hotel, and brought us into the wedding showcase room where they had all the table linen and table settings. A pity that we didn't like the ballroom that much, otherwise we would have signed up.

Did you insisted on coming on weekdays after 7pm or on weekends.? I think she already subtlety rejected them but you keep insist. That's why they don't repl

The main aim of wedding sales

The main role of wedding sales staff is to get more deals to hit their budget and generate revenue for the hotel. hence their priority is to oversee actual weddings or to show potential clients around. Food tasting session and AV testing are not important to them. would you like your coordinator to be attending to food tasting souples on your actual wedding day?
I think you have a strong sense of self entitlement. Hence you feel that you should be treated like royalty to the extent that your coordinator must show you to the food tasting venue and meet you.
There are clear directions to the venue.
In addition you feel that you are paying a lot to the hotel. seriously, the bulk of it is borne by your guests who will give you amg pao. and the hotel is running a business. most of the so called money you pay them goes to food, staffing, florist, alcohol etc.
if yoh feel so uptight over such trivilities, i foresee a lot of unhappiness leading to your wedding and your future.

Dear Ms (Obviously-we-know-who),

Thank you for your wishful thinking. It looks like you got pretty bad with my complaint for you to be looking up on wedding forum.
My sincere advice to you is to be careful when you handle your future customers next time or you might consider to change your job instead of arguing with us here.
We, as a customers we don't care how the hotel run. We only care how much money we paid and what kind of service we get back. Just like how you only care about hitting your budget. I guess from this point, I don't need to explain my point of view.

There is no need for any wedding person to be around during food tasting. I have difficulty finding my coordinator (Not Fullerton) most of the time. Even till the very last day, my wedding was in a mess. But it's all over. After all, a Wedding Day is just another day.

No I didn't insist. What's the point.

But funny how you know the content of Wendy's email replies......

I have been in this line long enough to know the typical mentality of ugly Singaporeans. If wedding sales people tell clients directly they don't stay past 6 pm, they will make a fuss and threaten to complain etc. So we will tell you indirectly. If clients still don't get the gist, we will just ignore. FYI Wedding Sales people work normal office hours and not retail hours. They wont stay past their official hours (cos there is no OT pay) just to show clients who are just shopping around for venues.

Anyway chill people. both BTBs and coordinators. no need to resort to name-callings over a feedback..

disclaimer.. i didn't kick up a fuss at all to date. take things easy.. my POV is, if the hotel coordinator doesn't care or things doesn't work out, there're always other hotels. no need quarrel over small things.
hope i'm not labelled as an Ugly Singaporean in this case :(

Actually this job is not suitable for her.
Instead of worrying and arguing back with Bride-to-be, who are her potential customers, here, she should be working hard to meet her other clients.
No one is expecting sale person to kowtow the customer (well, if someone really expecting it, isn't it sale person job to please customers? it will be just that Customer's bad attitude which is difference story).
You check up other posts of hers in this forum, she just has a lot of hatred toward clients who requested after office hours.

but What to do, for us, Bride-to-be, and most of the people have jobs require to work normal office hours. It is hotel's job to accommodate the flexible timing for the meet up. I do not say it is Sale's duties cos hotel management should consider how to make their staff wants to work non-office hours.

Ladies, just ignore and don't feed the troll. There's always a report function, btw.

Which hotel has good service and who goes the extra mile for their couples, we know can liao. It's easy to turn into bridezillas during this stressful vendor searching period, but let's just take a breath once a while and remember to relax, yeah? =)

Sure alypoop. Wedding is a happy occasion.

Hi all, just wanted to ask how was your experience dealing with Fullerton recently? I have always wanted to hold my wedding there and asked for an appointment to discuss. I was attended by a nice lady Melissa (Catering Exec) who attend to my queries promptly but the wedding coordinator doesn't seem to get back with the appointment (It has been around 3 days). Do understand that they are busy but at least they could say I will get back to you/meet next week or something. I am not sure if I am inpatient but as I start to lose some confidence in Fullerton, I approached mandarin Oriental and four seasons and both are able to fix appointments in a day and hence I started to have concerns if Fullerton could deliver their service. Probably I used to be from the Customer Service Line and I hold very high regards for excellent CS. Hope to hear from any BTBs or GTB here.. thanks

With regards to coming for a site visit after our office hours- we give clients the available timings after taking into account the function rooms' availability for viewing and our schedule and not the other way round where clients tell us when they would like to come down. There is no point in staying past our working hours just for clients who shop for fun and ask for a free carpark coupon in the end.
I am sure many other government and private establishments don't cater to special timings.
Its perfectly fine if potential clients take their business elsewhere because there will also be other understanding clients that will choose the available appointment slots given to them.

Dear wedding planner,

How I wish I was these customers who even have the chance to meet these wedding planners, we have already prepared to pay the cash deposit for the wedding, went on our own to check out the place and 100% sure we wanted to sign up with Fullerton but it is so hard to even secure an appointment slot with Fullerton though i am even prepared to take leave to come sign the contract. Sigh

Is your request for an appointment a 'can only come after 7.00 pm on weekdays / weekends / days with actual wedding setup' type?
If it falls into the above 3 categories, please read above posts for a detailed explanation.
To sweetdeal - Are you from a rival hotel ? I think its a perfect opportunity for competitors to cast some doubts on Fullerton's service after the above discussion on fixing appointments.
Dear Wedding Planner,

Thanks for the quick reply, I did indicate my preference for weekend but I am prepared to take leave if need be since I am sure i wanna sign up but no one even ask me when I can come down :( My fiance and I have also went on our own to check out the place in Fullerton and pictures and youtube on the internet. Hmm btw. u sound kinda defensive, no offence. I am not from rival, just a genuine BTB who wants my dream wedding in Fullerton but now my concerns are building up.

As you read above my experience with Fullerton, it is up to you to decide.
Although Fullerton does have impressive interior for both Straits Room and Ballroom, their customer care is not up to par.
I am still worry about my actual day how it will turn out.
So here are my pro and cons about Fullerton Hotel.

Pros:
1) Nice Ballroom, Straits Room
2) Guests invited are impressive just by hearing The Venue
3) Jade Restaurant food are nice

Cons:
1) The sale person doesn't really care you any more after you paid the deposit.
2) The food tasting venue is not in the function room served by Banquet Captain anymore (it is in the restaurant)

I am just not satisfied with their ways of handling customer service so far given that it is 6 stars hotel, I had high expectation with them.
If you do not have high expectation for their service, I think it is fine.

So far I only can say this. I don't know what other problem will arise before or on my Wedding Day.

Dear Sweetdeals32,

That person is kinda psycho, bashing and trolling all the BTB with her/his sad experiences. S/he must be leading difficult life.
I think s/he is the one from competitor. Making people think that s/he could be someone from Fullerton and writing with the rude tone.

Please just ignore coz her post doesn't help us anyway.
If you want the email of my new coordinator, i can PM you.

I have some doubts about your side of the story
1. You came down to view the site w/o checking on the availability of your date. If you did, who is your point of contact or person who reply to you? Fullerton is always occupied with events day and night. You mean you can just walk in w/o making a prior appointment with somebody?
2. You mention you are willing to pay a deposit and sign the contract. Did you check whether the ballroom is available on your preferred date.? If you did, who liaise with you and discuss the package with you?
3. If somebody had attended to you all these while, it's highly unlikely and unbelievable nobody wants to attend to you to take a confirm biz.
If somebody wants to sign a package with me, I will be there anytime any day just to firm the deal.
So you are insisting that you are going to sign up w/o knowing the ballroom availability and w/o discussing the package with any Sales person?
We let the readers judge for themselves.

My coordi (not Fullerton) had no problems meeting us after typical working hours or weekends or in between the lunch and dinner banquets he had on weekends as long as it's not his rest day. His only prob is that he's rather slow in replying emails but I'm fine as long as he does after I send a chaser text thru sms or whatsapp. It really is up to them how they uphold service standards and of course the hotel's own policies regarding working hrs. It's not unusual for hotel coordi or external planners to have later/staggered working hours in order to be able to meet after their couples' 9-5 working hours.

Anyway, let's all not reply to the troll anymore and just let it die off =)

Sorry All, to trigger so much commotion here, I was just a little anxious as I only wanted to fix my choice on Fullerton but now I have settled this via a phonecall. I hope to be back to share a good experience.

I had my wedding at fullerton few months back.

I must say their service is really top notch. The banquet manager and coordinator (my coordinator is Priscilia) did their job really well and the day went by so smoothly because of that. The smallest details are all taken care of by the hotel. They even assign a staff to be with me throughout to help me manage my gown when I walk about, when I change, when I need stuff etc.

We had tea ceremony in the room and the hotel provided the sweet tea, teapot and cups. Even the solemnization pen was provided by the hotel.

my coordinator is Priscilia too. So far she is ok but she is not available in weekend so we have to meet her during weekday. I am so looking forward my wedding at straits room in May. So far I have chosen the wrong bridal package so I hope I make the right choice for Fullerton at least!

Hi All,

I am about to see my wedding coordinator this Saturday, may I understand if there were any perks that I could push for or are we able to get discount off per table as I am booking for May 2016?

I had my wedding at Fullerton Straits room early this year and it was great! Everything went smoothly and the Banquet Manager whom was assigned to me on the actual day was really good, i dont have to worry anything at all. The decorations/flower deco were really beautiful as we top up abit with the florist.

Hello! Great to know that your banquet went smoothly :) May I ask who was your banquet manager?
Also, what do you mean by top-up with the florist?..

Hi!

My coordinator is Wendy.
Banquet Manager is only assigned to me on my actual day to ensure smooth running of the event.
I mean we top up (pay additional cost) on the flower arrangement and decoration with their Florist.

OMG, you quoted me. LOL.
Yes, I agree. She's sick and tired of "ugly Singaporean" demands and comes here to antagonise all brides to be behind the mask of anonymity on ze internet.
To vent her work frustrations maybe?
Coz she's got nothing better to do, scour forums to antagonise brides must be her work hobby.

And I don't blame her! Coz if i were her, i'd probably do the same. I know how Singaporeans can be sometimes, heck, we might even be like this sometimes.
But I would say that if u're in the service line, you've got to take it, otherwise it's not for u and u quit lah!
If this is her outlet, then I guess we have to respect that too. Just ignore her nasty comments. Reading her comments is like... no value add. she's not helping any brides.

But not all customers are 'ugly'. I agree that we should get service level that is due to us as we are paying customers. If we come here to complain about the service received, it's all personal opinions. To each his own.

People have bad days at times. Even a service staff cant be jolly and be on his/her best behaviour every time. Give and take.

Hi !

We are currently torn between Fullerton Straits Room VS Regent Tanglin Room. Regent seems to be an all-rounder with reasonable price, nice themes, reasonable perks and nice food review but the room looks rather old and narrow with lower ceiling height. Fullerton package is more on the high side but the Straits room is really nice! Any suggestions?

That time i am also considering between Regent (Tanglin or Nassim) and Fullerton Straits Room.
Regent perks are really attractive and also the price is slightly affordable. In the end, we chose Straits Room and we didnt regret our choice! Really depends which venue you really like.

Hello all BTBs,

I'm thinking of booking my banquet at Fullerton Hotel for end 2016.
Are you all able to share how is the wedding experience like? Eg. Food/Ambience/Service

And do you all think the march in is very short or still acceptable??

Thank you in advance!

have u gone down for site viewing? i was there right before a wedding recept and find the decor kind of lacking.. but of cos, u may choose to top-up for more florals or request for diff lighting etc. should not be much of an issue if you like fullerton ballroom..

march-in seems shorter than other hotels, but it's really up to your own preference. just note that ppl by the side of the ballroom are unable to see you until you've reached the bottom of the stairs.

Yes I went for site viewing already but I have not seen any actual wedding decor at the ballroom. I tried to search online and there are very little posts and I agree with you that the deco looks pretty plain. Guess will have to top up. Do you have any idea if lighting can be changed?

Yeah, but I guess Fullerton pricing fits my budget better. I saw shangri la's ballroom for wedding online and they always look so good but pricing above budget. Haha.

The ballroom looks pretty good. I think that will suffice. As a guest, you don't really care about the decors much, do you?
It's nice to have, but not exactly deal breaking (to me).
Perhaps you can spend some time to decorate the reception table instead? That will be the first thing guests notice (other than the hotel lobby & staff greeting at the main entrance)

Yeah thats true, thank you so much for the great suggestions. I have just booked my banquet at fullerton last weekend!

congrats! :) forgot to reply you previously, but i'm sure the coordinator has let you know that the lighting color can be changed.. also, i've seen a couple who place additional fairy lights along the stairway, and it looks lovely!
