Maldives

Hi,
I'm planning my hm trip too in next yr may. My budget is 8k for 2pax. We intend to spend around 5night water villa. Wanted to find a nice romantic water villa however no need to be extremely luxury one. seaplane is a bonus. We also intend to do snorkeling maybe special dining at yatch or beach as well as gg to spa. Can intro me which resort is suitable for us? I have saw vilu reef water villa with pool in impex. But the price for half board cost around 3.5k usd. I went to trip advisor but seem this resort doesn't receive gd comments. Anyway I also not sure if my budget fits in

What abt velassaru? Mirihi looks more homely n less romantic.. We loves snorkeling. So r we suppose to buy our own mask or we can rent frm the resort? I heard most of the resort only give 2bottles of mineral water per day which I dun think it's enough for us. But of nobody wants to spend so much on just drinking water.

Velassru is pretty good in terms of their facilities. It's pretty newly furnished resort as well, after taking over from the formal Laguna resort. However, it's too near to the airport, as it can be pros or cons.

Mirihi wise... for me, I think it's more romantic and homely than the other Maldives resort I went, just becos there are absolutely no crowds...and their ambience there at nite is WOW, especially walking on their sanding flooring at their common area. Hahaha... it really depends on different ppl's feel about romance. Sometimes it does comes with a price.
Mirihi's rate for villa, spa, excursion, yacht dinning is one of the more affordable one in MAldives.
However, I think the "romantic" moment does sets in when the time, location is right. Most of the time is during dinner, be it BBQ dinner, private dinner, on the yatch for sunset cruise... but it's never associate when there are crowds. HAA..

Not many resort have such a wonderful and healthy house reefs. You can literally snorkel till u forget about time... in Mirihi. The other one that I went that have beautiful house reef is W Resort & Spa. Their rates used to be cheaper then... now, it's approaching at least USD800 or more per nite, breakfast.

Some resort would provide free Snorkeling set... it really depends. Some might charge the usage. As I used to dive and snorkel more often, I got my own set. It's more hygienic that way.

Yes indeed... most resort would just give 2 mineral water bottle per day. The 500ml type. Some might give 1 big bottles. Most of the time when the cleaner comes and clean the room, they will replenished it. Thus I always request them to clean my room twice a day... give them some tips(about USD2).. and ask them for another 2 bottles. So effectively you'll have 4 or more. I'll get my own coke there as well, 12 cans, and some mineral water as well.... this will save u some money. (1 big bottle of mineral water is USD10 or more, while coke is USD5 or more per 330ml).

You have to prioritized what is your needs for the trip, then it's easier to select your idea resort. There are many other resorts that have less crowds, really nice cosy rooms, nice house reefs, but again... sometimes the rates just put us off. Mirihi in my humble opinion is by far, the best mid range resort in Maldives(based on it's cons)...

Mid-high end resort below:-
Another value resort with good quality rooms and affordable is Coco palm Bodu hithi. I was there in July 2011. Their water villa is not too pricey and it got a pool. The down side is their house reefs are not really good...but it's one of the not so crowded resort at a reasonable price.

Conrad(water villa island) is another one I can find peace and quietness... but rates is not cheap now.

You might also want to consider Angsana Velavaru... but it's purely land villa, unless u opt for their stand alone water villa at will cost u about USD750 or more a nite.

OR u might want to consider the soneva range of resort, Soneva Laamu or Soneva Fushi.... these are ECO, green resort.

The last one I can think of is Zithali Kuda-Funafaru. A nice 50 rooms resort by seaplane... they offer both land and water villa with/without pools. Rates are still reasonable.

Let me know if u need other help.... you might also want to consider the transfer time for each resort, as well as SQ flight timing arrangement..

Cheers!

Hi Kimberly,

Club Rannalhi belongs to the Adaaran range of resorts. It's consider as the mid low end range that normally the local agencies are selling. There are in fact more than 100 over resorts in Maldives. Let me know your budget and I'll recommend one to you based on your intended budget.

Cheers!

Hi Wu,

I would like to ask for your recommendation on a good place that's more private with good spa facilities in Maldives for my honeymoon with my WTB. Budget wise, don't really have one, but certainly not exorbitant pricing I guess. Maybe around US5-8k? As long as the place is good value for money, I'm quite a sucker for ambience and a romantic place. haha.

My friend recommended Adaaran Prestige Vadoo and I thought it's pretty good, just that it is 2km away from the airport and I am concerned about the sounds of the planes spoiling the ambience.

Hi, i'm new here. Can anyone recommend some good resorts in madlives? Also, have anyone stayed in sheraton resort before and is november a good timing for that? Thanks in advance!

Hi, anyone can advise me if April is the peak period for Maldives or if monsoon etc?

I'm planning for my honeymoon trip and is looking for some recommendation/advise.

Please help! Thank you in advance!

Hi Lemonzil,

It depends on Resorts. Some resorts low season rates will starts from April and most would start from Mid May.
Maldives is a place for Visit all year round.April season is still consider the dryer season. The wet season will start from May ~ Nov. However as I often visit Maldives during July period, I was seldom caught in rainy days... just that the wind will be stronger and so does the current.

Do share with me more on your budget and room preference.. and I'll be able to share with you some recommendation.

Cheers!

Wu

Hi Wu,

Thanks for the information.
What is the average cost of travelling to Maldives? We're probably looking at 4D3N? I'm not too sure about the budget wise yet, water villas preferred? Thank you!
happy.gif

Hi Lemonzil,

Low Season rates, depends on which resorts and what type of water villa category. It can range from USD400 per nite to over USD4K per nite.

Different resorts will have different meal plan as well, ranging from breakfast ~ All inclusive plan.

And there are basically 3 types of transfer, i,e Speed Boat, Seaplane and Domestic plane+speedboat. A Seaplane transfer is definitely desirable as the view of the Maldivian Atolls is worth all the money you pay for.

Thus the rule of thumb is... the higher your budget, you'll be able to choose a room with better view and also a in room pool.

I'll pm you more details to your email....

Hi,

I like to do some homework here..please help me understand about the package.. does it include airport transfer n land transfer till the resort? What r the activity we do on the island?

Planning for my honeymoon in early November, 9months from now.....

Maldives is an amazing place for a honeymoon!

I booked a water villa at Constance Halaveli, a French resort chain which is a 20-minute seaplane ride from Male. If it's of any help, I shared my experience here: http://magdalyn.net/2013/02/16/maldivian-honeymoon-living-in-paradise/

Do feel free to drop me a comment if you have any questions, I'd be happy to help : )

Hi Misswhimsical,

your blog was wonderful.. the place looks excellent... My hubby and I decide to make our way to Maldives for honeymoon too... cos we believe after a long and tiring stressful preparation of the wedding, we deserve to spoilt ourself in heaven.

I heard that the food was super expensive there. May I know did you book the resort on your own? was it individual arrangement or in a package? Some friends told me that some resort will arrange the seaplane to transport us to their hotel free... is it true?

your photo makes me so excited. My hubby intend to go Europe, but I insist to go heaven instead. :D

Hope to hear from you soon.

Hi
Looks like Maldives is a heavily place for honeymoon=)
My fiancée and I would like to spend our honeymoon at Maldvies, but, visit during the month of November, is it a good idea?
Any advise?

Planning to stay here: maafushivaru.

Any good?

Hi rabber. Maafushivaru is located at South Ari Atoll Maldives... meaning you'll travel on the seaplane and have a splendid view. Island is pretty small with less than 50 rooms. This is consider a relatively good boutique hotel like it's neighboring Mirihi. Island was surrounded by healthy reefs.. and thus if u like snorkeling.. it will be a good choice! :) Beach front is plentiful and great to do sun tanning.

Room wise it not exactly luxurious and big in size but it's neat and functional. Pretty similar to it's sister resort such as Kuramathi island resort.

Some people would like the small island while some would think it's too small.... :)

Hi msyeo, Congrats on your upcoming wedding/Honeymoon. :)

Oh Yes... Maldives is probably one of the most romantic plan to choose for honeymoon. :) There are close to 200 resorts for you to choose from, and reachable by speedboat transfer, seaplane transfer or domestic plane/Speedboat transfer. Most would opt for the seaplane transfer because of the magnificent view of the Maldivian Atolls! :)

November is near the end of the "monsoon" period but cons is the price is creeping up. It will cost around 1.5 to 2X more as compare to the low season. In short, it will be slightly more expensive as compare to May~ July period. Good thing to travel this year is that the TGST in Maldives is currently at 8% and next year they are planning for 12% plus room rates hike. yes.. it's getting more ex. :)

Do share with me your planned budget and perhaps I can recommend a few resort for you to consider. :) Cheers!

what? 12%?! I thought 8% is already expensive...

what? 12%?! I thought 8% is already expensive...

Yo Lemonzil... :)

Haa.... it used to be 0% TGST prior to 2010... follow by 2010 > 3.5%, 2011> 6% and 2012 > 8%.... and now proposed 12% next year 2013. That's on top of the 10% service charge plus USD8 bed tax per pax per night. Rates for a 5 stars luxury rooms have already increase by around 300% since 2005. And that's being also fueled by strong demand from Chinese tourist. The only time rates drop is during the 2008-9 financial crisis and 2004 Tsunami.

No choice... it's one of the ultimate location for Honeymoon and pure relaxation.... you should know right? haaa.

Yeah... So i'm lucky that I've been there, done that before the hike! I was still planning to revisit another 3-5 yrs later.. by then the tax...

Yes, we plan to stay there because of the waters and reefs. And we want it to be romantic but a little disappointed that room is not exactly luxurious. It' not chea either... I saw the sister's villa called Baros and it was beautiful. I can't bear to spend the money. ;)

Hey guys
Thank you for the helpful information. Hmm, guess I have to discuss with my fiancée whether to go or not to go again

meimei1601, yes they have various packages depending on your preferences. I decided not to include meals in mine because I wanted to plan my own meals. They can also plan your activities if you request, e.g. picnic, snorkelling, diving, etc.

P.S. Sorry for the late reply, I don't log in that often since I got married. If you have any more questions, feel free to drop me a comment on my blog! : )

Hi Wu,

Need help from your advice!

My HTB and I are planning for our honeymoon to Maldives in mid Dec this yr.
Can you advise the reccomended resorts base on our preferences?

1) water villa with good view
2) in room jacuzzi or bathtub
3) good house reef
4) diving facilities, nearby dive sites
5) recommended for honeymoon.

Price wise is around USD5000+/- for 7 nights, inclusive of airport transfer.

We've short listed Veligandu, but seems like the house reef is only average. (what's Maldives with bad reef?...)
So we are stuck. Hope u can give us some advices.

Thanks soo much!

Hi Wannie, u gotten any reply?

Hi Wannie,

Congrats on your upcoming Honeymoon, and perhaps a dive trip honeymoon. :)
I'll try to give you a balance review base on my studies and matching your ideal Villa.

In short, all resorts during Dec are charging and insane amount as many ppl from cold weather country
are rushing to have a hot warm holiday.

I've been to quite a few resorts with pretty good house reef. One of them is W Retreat & Spa, Maldives, and Mirihi Maldives.
Both are really good choice, just that W 5 Stars rates is too ex to my liking during Dec Period... and even so does the 4 Stars
Mirihi Maldives. Both of these 2 resort are in Ari Atoll... north and South respectively.

There are a couple of resorts in South Ari Atolls with beautiful house reefs, such as Vilamendhoo and lily beach. All these resorts
are seaplane transfer resorts..... a chance of a life time trip flying over the beautiful Maldivian Atolls. :)

Veligandu is probably just average in Snorkeling and hardly can beat the 4 above mentioned islands. However rates for 3 of the 4
resorts mention pretty ex during Dec period... don't really like the rates. Only Vilamendhoo is still probably more value.
Vilamendhooo Water villa with Jacuzzi does not meant to be the nicest rooms but probably it fits into your budget nicely. :)

Hope it helps. :)
