Vevien and Bernard’s White and Sage Wedding at The St Regis Singapore

Vevien and Bernard tied the knot at The St Regis Singapore after dating for 12 years. Read on to find out what was most memorable for them on their wedding day.

Bernard, 26, Real Estate Agent, claims Vevien, 27, also a Real Estate Agent, was the first to request to add him on Facebook, but it doesn’t matter, because they were obviously attracted to each other. After 12 years of courtship, these love birds finally tied the knot at The St Regis Singapore, a venue that was way beyond their dreams when they started dating at 15. More than a dream come true, it feels like their relationship has come blissfully full circle.

How did the two of you meet?

Vevien: We met via Bernard’s best friend at the age of 15, when we were both in secondary school. My friend had invited me to watch their school hockey match and Bernard was the vice-captain of the team. I took notice of Bernard because the crowd was cheering his name.

Bernard: Vevien will deny this but she added me on Facebook first. We started hanging out and eventually, it blossomed into something more. And here we are 12 years later, tying the knot.

What do you love most about your partner?

Vevien: I love that Bernard is patient, loving and kind. He always puts others above himself. He has a good heart, and is extremely hard-working. Sometimes too hard-working! More importantly, through the toughest of times, through failures and setbacks in life, along with all my imperfections, he chose to never give up on me and embrace me for who I am.

Bernard: I love that she is kind-hearted, down to earth and always honest with her feelings. She is a person who gives and seeks nothing in return. She’s beautiful inside and out, has big ambitions and is an amazing lady. I am truly blessed.

For the both of us, we love that we’ve seen each other through the many major milestones in each other’s lives—from secondary school to getting our diplomas and degrees. We survived the two years when I was in the army and now we are work partners. We’ve grown to love each other more as we enter the many seasons and phases of our lives! More importantly, our favourite part is that we have each other through all things, good or bad.

So what was the proposal like?

Vevien: Bernard planned a car photoshoot that turned into a proposal. After the photoshoot, I was told that we were heading to the next shoot location but it turned out to be an 11-stop “quest”. At each pitstop, I was greeted by different groups of family and friends, along with a gift and letter that symbolises our relationship. The 11th stop was the proposal spot. The 11 pitstops represent the 11 years that we have been together.

What was your wedding theme and how did you create it?

Vevien: SingaporeBrides was the site we used to source for vendors and also garner inspiration! We chose white and sage as our floral theme. We put together a mood board for our stylist, Philly from Med Kärlek Inc, and they executed it beautifully. The highlight was the hanging floral installation on the stage and the rustic walnut bentwood chairs we rented to fill the long tables on the aisle. The added touches were the floating candle arrangement on the banquet table.

How did your wedding day go?

Vevien: It was absolutely memorable and without a doubt, the best day of our lives. 12 years of courtship led to this moment and we were tearing from start to end. We started our day with the gate-crash, then we went for an entourage shoot at the beautiful Gallop Gables before heading to the hotel for the tea ceremony, which was followed by the matrimony and banquet.

We had our holy matrimony along with the dinner banquet at the John Jacob Hall at The St Regis Singapore. The location itself was already a dream come true as we always joked when we were younger that the “loser will need to treat the winner to a meal at St. Regis”, which as a 15 year old kid, was impossible to afford. It simply came full circle for us.

What was the most memorable moment of your wedding?

Vevien: As cliché as it is, the moment we said our vows was the most memorable for me. Having attended numerous weddings and hearing other people say their vows, you’d think it’s just part of the wedding routine, but actually saying it to your partner, making those promises, was one of my favourite moments.

Bernard: When Vevien was walking down the aisle and when her dad handed her over to me, it was a precious moment and a symbol of complete trust. I couldn’t help but tear up at that moment as I was about to marry the love of my life.
