Cherie and Isaac’s Sunkissed Shoot at Lower Peirce Reservoir and Sum Yi Tai

Cherie and Isaac made the most of beautiful light during their local pre-wedding shoot at Lower Peirce Reservoir and Sum Yi Tai before it closed.

Cherie Tan, 31, and Isaac Lee, 35, met while training for Ultimate Frisbee, and got engaged at the very same spot in the NUS Law School Quadrangle. The couple documented their love in a sunkissed local session at Lower Peirce Reservoir and in a charming shoot at Sum Yi Tai (now closed) for some vintage oriental vibes.

How did you meet?

Isaac: It was sometime in the middle of 2011 when we met at an Ultimate Frisbee training session with Chuckies. It was my first training session and Cherie had just returned to Singapore from her exchange programme in the UK. We became friends and started dating in January 2013.

What do you love most about your partner?

Isaac: I admire her independence and resilience as an individual, which inspires me to embrace the same spirit in the things I do. We complement each other well and that’s what I love about her.

Cherie: He’s someone I can laugh and cry with and he balances me out nicely.

What was the proposal like?

Isaac: I wanted the proposal to be somewhere memorable to us both and at an intimate setting away from the public eye. With the help from family, friends, and Cherie’s beloved dachshund, I set up a surprise proposal at NUS Law School Quadrangle, where we first met during that fateful Chuckies Ultimate Frisbee training session.

Where did you go for your shoot?

We chose to do the photoshoot locally. We wanted a scenic location in Singapore as well as something different from the usual. As we looked through the profiles of wedding photographers, we found inspiration from projects done by Andri Tei Photography on Instagram.

We decided on Lower Peirce Reservoir for a day shoot to capture the beauty of the sunrise and nature. For our second location, we chose Sum Yi Tai for an oriental vibe to go with Cherie’s second gown, as it draws inspiration from a cheongsam. Both wedding gowns were made by Hui Li of Silhouette The Atelier, who is attentive to details and provided excellent service and advice to us. Her gowns speak volumes of the quality of her work!

Tell us about your shoot!

We hoped for the shoot to be candid and fun and it was exactly that. The early morning makeup by Candy was professionally done. It helped that we had a pre-shoot trial make-up session to decide and experiment on a suitable style to go for.

Likewise, Andri met up with us before the shoot to discuss more and helped us to understand what the process will be like. He made us feel comfortable and put us at ease with his friendly and warm demeanor. Andri is very passionate about his work, and this is very evident during the creative process. He’s always on the hunt for unique angles and points of view and was able to capture the all the emotions and heartfelt moments.

When Andri showed us a few sample photos, we were both blown away. The angles were brilliant, and he savoured every ray of the morning sun, making the 4.00a.m. morning call worthwhile. At Sum Yi Tai, he made use of the reflections from the mirrors as well as the interior lighting to create absolutely gorgeous photos. It gave us a whole new perspective on wedding photography! Amazing!

When will the wedding be, and what are your plans for it?

We used SingaporeBrides to plan for our wedding, which we held in November 2019. It was a one-stop website to look out for potential vendors and reviews of the services they provide. We made our booking for a wedding lunch with Grand Hyatt’s wedding showcase via SingaporeBrides! We enjoyed reading articles on tips for couples for various matters such as budgeting, preparation work etc.

We planned for the wedding to be simple and cosy with good food! We aimed to provide ample time for our guests to mingle and enjoy the cocktail reception before lunch, have fun photo-taking at the photo-booth, and be entertained with the photos and videos shown.

We were able to do all that at Grand Hyatt Singapore. Rachel Ye, the Associate Director of Event Sales at Grand Hyatt, is simply the best in her field of work. She was ever-present and meticulous, and ensured our wedding preparation was smooth-sailing. We both fell in love with the modern and majestic feel of the Grand Ballroom, and the panoramic screen was truly special, allowing us to project wonderful memories in a beautiful way. Andri was able to capture many beautiful photos that were suitable for the panoramic screen.

Isaac: I took on the photo and video montage project myself, doing up the photo loops using photos from the local photoshoot and a casual overseas shoot done in Paris. I also managed to put together a video of us from our childhood till the dating days. It was stressful meeting the timeline, but seeing it up on screen and bringing smiles to the faces of our families and friends was very satisfying.
