Yeonhee and Pei Qian’s Elegant Destination Wedding at Andaz Singapore
Yeonhee and Pei Qian kept things simple and elegant with a heartfelt wedding at Andaz Singapore.
Hailing from different countries, Yeonhee and Pei Qian fell in love when they met overseas. Sparks flew when the lovebirds met through mutual friends and were drawn to each other despite the short time they spent with one another. After a surprise proposal, Yeonhee and Pei Qian decided to return to Singapore to wed in the presence of their family and friends at the beautiful and elegant Andaz Singapore.
Tell us about your story. How did you meet and what drew you to each other?
Pei Qian: I was in South Korea for a holiday when we met through mutual friends. We kept in touch after I returned to Melbourne, and eventually started dating long-distance. We would travel to meet one another every break we had and after dating for approximately two years, Yeonhee moved to Melbourne for me.
During our short time together in South Korea, we really enjoyed each other’s company. We share common interests and hobbies, like golf, and have very similar personalities.
What is it about your partner that you love the most?
Pei Qian: I really like how sociable and independent she is. Being an obstetrics/gynaecology specialty trainee, my work hours were often very long and I was often not around. After moving to Melbourne, Yeonhee was able to settle in very quickly, making new friends along the way and started a new life and career for herself in Melbourne. Not to mention, she is also an amazing cook!
Yeonhee: I really admire his drive in life. He sets himself goals and strives to achieve them and rarely complains about the difficulties along the way. He is also a very affectionate and caring person and really knows how to make others feel special.
What was the proposal like, Pei Qian?
I made a video collage of us and hired the small cinema room in our apartment block, got a couple of my best mates together and tricked her into thinking we were going to watch a late night movie together.
Tell us more about your wedding and wedding planning journey. Did you meet with any challenges planning a wedding from overseas?
As we lived abroad, we knew very little about wedding venues in Singapore. So, I asked a couple of friends who just had their weddings in Singapore and was recommended Andaz Singapore. During our 3-day trip back in Singapore, we met up with the events team at Andaz Singapore and really liked the place after we had a chance to tour the space.
It was tough planning a wedding from overseas, even for simple things like wedding gown hire. I was in charge of planning our wedding in Singapore while Yeonhee took charge of our wedding in South Korea. Mainly, I just asked friends who had recently gotten married for advice and recommendations.
Take us back to your wedding day. What was it like and how were you feeling?
Definitely excited but nervous! It was quite a hectic day because we arrived in Singapore a week before our actual wedding day, and had little time for any preparation. We simply prayed that everything would fall into place nicely, and thankfully, it did! Our family and friends really loved the food Andaz Singapore served, and while we were exhausted by the end of the day, we both had a really good time!
Share with us the most memorable moment of your wedding?
It was probably during our solemnisation ceremony when Yeonhee burst into tears whilst reading her vows.
What is one lesson you’ve learned from your wedding planning that you’d like to share with other couples
I would recommend couples who are planning their wedding from overseas to consider using a wedding planner.
