Hui Kin and Andie’s Paper-Floral Wedding at Andaz The Glasshouse

Hui Kin and Andie wed in a beautiful and laid-back Andaz Glasshouse wedding, filled with paper flowers!

Ng Hui Kin, 28, Finance Analyst, and Andie Hartanto Djohan, 28, Doctor, have been friends since primary school! They started dating in the their teens, and celebrated their long journey of love on 22 December 2019 with a beautiful and laid-back wedding in The Glasshouse at Andaz Singapore filled with paper flowers and a surprise birthday cake.

How did your story begin?

Andie: We met in primary school and she was the only girl willing to be my friend because I was a chubby kid.

Hui Kin: We were good friends from the start and like most millennials, many of our conversations were via Msn Messenger. It was always a platonic friendship to me so I was a bit shocked when he confessed his feelings before we entered junior college.

What do you love most about your partner?

Hui Kin: I think having a strong friendship has been very integral to our relationship. I also deeply admire Andie’s determination and tenacity in chasing his goals.

Andie: Hui Kin is spontaneous and fun-loving and our habits complement each other in many ways. She’s also genuine and caring.

How was the wedding planning?

Hui Kin: I used SingaporeBrides to plan my wedding! My favourite resource was the wedding spreadsheet. I relied on it heavily for most of the planning and I think I did a pretty good job keeping to the timeline that was suggested.

How did you create your wedding theme?

Hui Kin: My initial theme was meant to be light and airy, with a lot of lace and embroidery hoops as decor. However, I didn’t know how to achieve what I wanted and didn’t want to trouble my bridesmaids with a backdrop either, so I engaged Pei Li from 8dec! She had many different ideas when I approached her and was the one who suggested a peachy orange theme, slightly darker than what I had originally envisioned. I really loved the paper floral design she came up with in the end!

What was your wedding day like?

Andie: It was a heartwarming experience for me to see all my friends and family gathered in one place. I had more fun than I expected to.

Hui Kin: We were pretty laidback regarding the wedding itinerary and didn’t plan a lot of entertainment. We had a photobooth set up outside and the wedding programme included a speech by our parents as well as a childhood montage which featured photos of us together in our younger days.

What was the most memorable moment of your wedding?

Hui Kin: The wedding was a few days after my birthday and my bridesmaids surprised me with a birthday cake on stage after our speeches. I also really enjoyed the speech my mom gave—she joked about her internal struggle as a mother when she allowed us to date as teenagers.

Andie: This is embarrassing… but it would be when I broke down in tears and thanked my parents during my speech. My first and hopefully last time crying in public.
