All The Best Traditional Healing Techniques in One Massage at Chi, The Spa
Self-care is the best care, and it can be for everyone. The new Signature Asian Blend Massage at Chi, The Spa brings you the best traditional massage techniques from all over Asia for some physical and emotional healing.
If you, like me, yearn for a good spa session whenever work gets you down, you’ll be glad to know there actually are many good spas in Singapore. I do have a few favourites, but recently, I visited Chi, The Spa at Shangri-La Hotel, Singapore to try out their new treatment, and I have to say, the muscles on my back ached for days after my massage. It’s like I had been at the gym. I kept checking the mirror to see if bruises were showing! I felt a little apologetic to Esti, my therapist, for having to use so much strength on my tensed muscles.
The new Signature Asian Blend Massage at Chi, The Spa combines traditional Thai, Balinese, Malay, Chinese, and Indian techniques and therapeutic rituals. This unique blend of treatments came from a trip that Carlos Calvo, Assistant Vice President, Spa (Training) of Shangri-La Hotels & Resorts had embarked on in 2018. He had one mission in mind as he traipsed across Asia, and that is to master massage techniques from the very best of wellness experts. I want his job.
Most Asian massage techniques incorporate acupressure, compression, and joint mobility. The Signature Asian Blend Massage then brings in the graceful Thai body stretches to encourage flow of energy in the muscles, and the aromatic kneading movements from Balinese essential oil treatments.
Malay massages are centred on using long, firm strokes to expel wind from the body, while the rhythmic striking of cupped palms on the body from the Chinese percussion technique promotes blood circulation and activates the nervous system. The icing on the cake is the scalp massage, which derives from ancient Ayurvedic Indian techniques which aids in releasing toxins and improving oxygen flow to the brain.
Medium and firm pressure is usually used throughout the treatment, but Esti focused on the very tensed muscles on my shoulders, which very few therapists have managed to conquer. With all the kneading, I fell asleep towards the end of my massage and had to be woken up. It was not one of those soft relaxing massages, as the various techniques used are meant to invigorate you, but I still fell asleep during the head massage! I left the spa with a lighter body and a better mood. The spa recommends the Signature Asian Blend Massage for those suffering from jet lag and insomnia. I personally feel that those of you who are feeling stressed or who are suffering from a heaviness in the body should come try this treatment.
The Signature Asian Blend Massage is priced at S$165++ for 60 minutes and S$235++ for 90 minutes.
