Elaine and Gabriel’s Gorgeous Pre-Wedding Adventure in Sumba

Influencer Elaine Rui Min and her love Gabriel made lots of beautiful memories chasing wild horses and splashing in waterfalls in their stunning Sumba pre-wedding shoot with Darren and Jade Photography.

Elaine Rui Min, 26, Online Personality, and Gabriel Na, 30, Architect, flew to the largely undiscovered Sumba, Indonesia, for a pre-wedding shoot that was an adventure to remember! The nature-loving couple hiked up hills to catch the sunrise, ran with wild horses, jumped into sparkling waterfalls, and had an incredible time with their equally adventurous photography and videography team Darren and Jade Photography.

Tell us where you went for your shoot!

For our pre-wedding shoot, we went to Sumba, Indonesia. We chose this place because we both have a big love for nature and adventure, and after seeing some of the pictures of Indonesian bloggers online, we felt Sumba was an underrated gem that needed to be explored!

More importantly, we wanted to keep our overseas shoot relaxed and fun, just exploring new places together like how we usually would as a couple. We want to look back at our pre-wedding photos some day and remember all the fun times we had, instead of just posing for the camera!

Why did you choose Darren and Jade Photography?

Elaine: To be honest, we took quite a long time to decide on the team to engage for our pre-wedding shoot as I had many good friends in this industry and was spoilt for choice!

However, after much deliberation, we ended up with Darren and Jade Photography as we thought it would be meaningful to have Xinyi, my good friend, shoot our pre-wedding video! Xinyi is the head wedding videographer of the Darren and Jade team and she’s awesome.

After our first meet up with the Darren and Jade team, we immediately knew we wanted to engage them as they were a passionate and humble couple who made us feel very comfortable. We felt that they were just as excited as we were about exploring Sumba, and this love for adventure was what made us go, “Yes we want them for our pre-wedding shoot!”

The planning process was very smooth! Because it was everyone’s first time visiting Sumba and it wasn’t a very well known place (yet), lots of research needed to be done! The Darren and Jade team was very professional and constantly led the discussions, making it very easy for Gabe and I as we knew we didn’t have to worry about the shoot. After we shortlisted the places we wanted to shoot at, they immediately went ahead to finalise the itinerary for us, together with accommodation and guide recommendations. We were very impressed!

Tell us how your shoot went!

Elaine: Sumba was everything we ever dreamt of! It was filled with so much untouched nature that really melted our hearts. The sunrise and sunsets here were simply the most beautiful we have ever witnessed, and the vast landscapes were just breathtaking. We even saw wild horses! Gabe and I have always had a heart for nature — this place definitely hit the mark.

The shoot experience with Darren and Jade Photography was the best we could ever ask for! Not only did they make us feel very comfortable, each and every one of them was so passionate about the shoot. Their energy was simply contagious and it made Gabe and I very excited! I like that they were all about the candid, happy moments too, rather than just posed ones. It was nice to simply let loose and enjoy our time together because it really made this entire trip so meaningful for the both of us.

What we really appreciated about them is also how they were equally adventurous. It didn’t matter if we got ourselves muddy or dirty while running in the fields or spending time with the children in the villages, everyone kept their energy levels up and it felt like we were a family. It was nice!
