Annabel and Joel’s Gorgeous Bali Pre-Wedding Photography Session

Annabel and Joel’s stunning Bali pre-wedding photography session is filled with glorious mountaintop sunsets, pink beaches, and tropical jungle swings!

Annabel and Joel met playing the same sport, underwater rugby. The adventurous couple went to breathtaking locations in Bali for their pre-wedding shoot with Darren and Jade Photography, which felt more like a holiday! They climbed mountains for stunning sunset views of two bays, had a huge swing in the tropical jungle, and relaxed on a pink beach. Get inspired by their beautiful Bali pre-wedding photography adventure in the story below!

How did you two meet?

Joel: We both play the same sport, underwater rugby, and we’re both members of the same club. But oddly enough the first time we actually met was at a gaming session by the club members. After a couple of sessions, I found out that she stayed near me ,and I took the opportunity to offer her a ride home. That’s how it started, and then I began texting her more frequently.

Annabel: I was inactive in my underwater rugby sports club for about half a year due to work and some other commitments. I still hung out with my friends from the club outside of the training sessions from time to time and they invited me for a Lan Gaming session. During my period of inactivity, Joel joined the club.

I showed up at the Lan session a little early and there he was, a stranger to me. The first impression wasn’t the most positive one. I mean, he was actually gawking at me for a bit. I felt pretty uncomfortable… until my friend actually spoke up about it and asked him to back off. Haha! It was quite embarrassing for the both of us.

I started going back for underwater rugby training and what do you know, Joel lived near me and had been offering all who lived nearby a ride to training. (Okay, he didn’t know I stayed nearby. And he didn’t have feelings for me then.) Of course I took up the offer. I could sleep in for 30 minutes more, which to me was like, “Hallelujah!”

So from then, whenever there was training, I would ride with him. He would pick me up from my house and send me home after. And in these car rides, we would talk and share our views of the world.

What made you fall in love with your partner?

Annabel: He is really caring and nice to everyone, not just to me. He’s also really witty and funny.

Joel: She can be quite the crazy person, and her humour and her mad-capped, fun-loving attitude was the key draw for me. Also, she was a great conversationalist which made my interactions with her very interesting. As I got to know her better, I got to see her more serious, logical, and deep-thinking side, and it impressed me. The more I saw both sides of her, the more I felt that she was the one.

What was the proposal like?

Annabel: I knew it was coming because he wasn’t good at hiding things. He was so obvious because he was so insistent on me blocking a particular day off for him. We went for a date at a selfie studio and we had some fun taking some photos with some props. Midway, he told me he had to go get something, which I believed, because he is pretty forgetful. When he came back in, he had flowers and the ring, and was followed by a big group of our underwater rugby friends.

I was pretty surprised because we had training that day before our date and all of them were pretending not to know about the proposal, asking me questions like, “Oh where are you going later, you look nice today.”

Joel: I’ve got to give credit to one of our friends from underwater rugby. He told me to be different and not go with the run-of-the-mill dinner and propose. He suggested I try to do it at a photo studio and surprise her there. I sourced out a selfie studio, where we could go and take our own photos. I surprised her there, while we were supposed to be changing into onesies to take nonsense fun shots. I proposed to her while she was wearing that. I brought some of our friends along to enjoy the moment with us. They forced me into a onesie to take a photo of me on one knee. Thankfully there are no pictures of me initially asking the question, as we both looked quite unglamorous crying so hard. Haha. I guess that until our wedding it was the best day of my life.

Where did you go for your pre-wedding shoot?

Joel: We had initially decided on Melbourne, but due to some logistics issue we had to cancel that idea. Darren and Jade suggested Padar and Bali, as they had been there before. Their Bali pre-wedding photography looked awesome, so with a little bit of research, we said, “Yes, let’s do it!” and went!

What was the shoot like?

Joel: It was absolutely fantastic. The pre-wedding shoot did not feel like a shoot and more like a holiday adventure in Bali. That’s the best way to describe it. We had so much fun and laughter on top of it being like an adventure down to the very last day, rushing through the airport. The shots came up amazing as well!

When will the wedding be, and what are your plans for it?

Joel: The wedding is going to be on 29 December 2018, and we just hope it’s a fun filled event for all our close friends and family. For planning, the SingaporeBrides wedding checklist has been immensely helpful.
