Jacelyn and Sherman’s Wild and Free Pre-Wedding Shoot on Punggol Beach
In this styled Punggol Beach pre-wedding shoot, Jacelyn and Sherman celebrate their love with a romantic picnic and walks on the sand.
For Jacelyn Phang, 27, Professional Model at The Nu Management, and Sherman Phua, 29, Software Engineer, love only blossomed two years after they met. The couple celebrated their six-month anniversary with a beautiful Punggol Beach pre-wedding shoot themed “Wild and Free,” with wine and meringue tarts on the sand, romantic walks on the coast, and wildflowers galore.
How did you meet?
Sherman: We met through mutual friends in 2015, and we started hanging out as part of a group. Two years later, we went out and hit it off. Things quickly progressed and I am really happy we are now in a relationship.
Jacelyn: We met through the introduction of Sherman’s brother Yiquan. It was two years ago when we first knew of each other’s existence and we hung out as a group only a couple of times. The two of us have good chemistry, and as naive as it sounds (considering how young the relationship is), everything fits like a glove. Conversations flowed, we have similar interests and values in life, and both of us feel very comfortable with each other.
In Hebrew and Yiddish, there’s this word which I think describes our relationship: “beshert”: meaning “pre-destined soul mate,” and I am still very amazed and thankful that I feel that I found my “beshert.”
What drew you to each other, and what’s one of the things you love most about your partner?
Sherman: What attracted me was her sincere attitude towards people. She’s loving and caring as a partner, and is always very giving and open in her sharing. I feel that she offers the kind of support that I value in a relationship. Importantly, I feel happier with her in my life!
Jacelyn: He’s one of the most genuine and honest people I know. I believe that a long-term relationship must be founded on trust, so reliability is the trait that I value most. He has a good sense of humour, and I love conversations with him. We can talk every day about anything under the stars. When we are together, his companionship brings out the best in me.
Where did you go for your shoot?
Jacelyn: The theme of the shoot is “Wild and Free.” Both of us are free-spirited individuals, and we wanted to capture an elopement or private wedding vibe where we are enjoying ourselves with a good view.
We were very lucky to work with numerous sponsors on this shoot, who were professional in the execution and planning. Shumin and Siling from Glittering Carousel helped so much with the organisation of the shoot – from producing the lookbook and moodboard, finding related vendors, to making sure everything is on track! I can easily say that this shoot was the most stress-free shoot I have ever had.
Sherman: The shoot took place at Punggol Beach, and we were all praying that it wouldn’t rain. The partners went early for the event set-up, and thank goodness, skies were clear and weather was really good on the day of the shoot! Punggol Beach is very calm and tranquil; we shot during the sunset hours and the results turned out amazing!
Tell us about your shoot experience.
Jacelyn: Photographer Louis from Joy de Vi managed to capture the “Wild and Free” vibe along with moments of us having a good time at the beach. It was so fuss-free shooting with Louis; there weren’t any “pose-y” and awkward moments. He was casual in his approach and the photos turned out professional and well taken. To sum up, shooting with him was pure fun and laughter!
As a model, I have done many shoots before. For this pre-wedding shoot, I was extremely particular about having makeup that reflects my personality. The hair and makeup by Fidelis from The Luckiest Chick Makeup brought out my personality and the theme of the shoot very well. Prior to the shoot, we hadn’t met or spoken. She was sent the moodboard, and no questions were asked when we met. She worked quickly—in just one and a half hours—and was very skilled in her makeup and hairstyling techniques. I was amazed at the transformation and I dare say it was my favourite makeup look of all time! I really liked that she helped me look like a very natural and relaxed-looking bride, the long loose waves channeling a boho-chic vibe. I love the fact that she infused braids into the hairstyle, which is also very trendy.
I wore three gowns from WeddingCrafters, all of which were free and flowing. I loved how each of the gowns helped make the shoot picture-perfect. All three gowns were sturdy A-line gowns that did not cling to the body, and were perfect for the shoot, which was intended to be casual and fuss-free. I also purposely picked one gown in a subtle pink because it’s my favourite colour. I think the essence of such shoots is showcasing real feelings, personality, and the little moments shared between partners.
The florals from The Flower Practice were according to theme. It had a really rustic feel which blended with the rest of the wooden tables, crates and boxes.
When will the wedding be and what are your plans for it?
Jacelyn: We are making plans for a solemnisation in the second half of 2018. It’s going to be a private affair or a really simple celebration with immediate family members and close friends. We would love for all of our friends and relatives to join us at our wedding party, which we will hold two to three years later. Things are still in discussion, but we are excited for the next chapter! We believe that good things are worth the wait, so we would like to allocate more time for the planning of such a big event as the wedding banquet.
I am an avid follower of SingaporeBrides’ Facebook page and always read about gown trends via the articles. We are also intending to look for venue recommendations for next year’s solemnisation through the website.
