A Love As Blue As The Skies and As True As Gold
Melody and Brad are just like any other couple. They met through work some five years ago, became best friends and fell in love.
Brad Lau, 27, founder and director of Ladyironchef Group Ptd Ltd, orchestrated a surprise proposal for the love of his life, 25-year-old Ladyironchef business director, Melody Yap. Like many other brides, she received the most pleasant shock of her life. Then came their engagement shoot – a staple on every engaged couple’s wedding need-to-do list. Actually, they had two, but who’s counting? And if you’re constantly on Instagram like I am, then you’ve probably caught glimpses of their engagement shoots. Check out the full set of photos and learn the inspiration behind Melody and Brad’s engagement shoots here. Trust me, you won’t want to miss out on this!
How did Brad surprise you for your proposal?
Melody: He whisked me away on a surprise trip to Venice and proposed at the famous Rialto Bridge! I knew nothing of his plans and the trip until two weeks before we were due to leave. I was told to pack for two weeks worth of winter and only found out we were heading to Milan when we were at the airport. Even when he told me he was bringing me to Venice, I still suspected nothing! So, when he got down on one knee, I was completely thrown off-guard! Almost immediately, I said “yes”!
Why two differently themed engagement shoots?
Both of us love traveling and exploring the world, so it was only appropriate to have a travel-inspired engagement shoot. We also wanted a set of photos to reflect our love for all things sophisticated and mysterious, which led us to our Great Gatsby themed shoot. Coincidentally, it was the first time our participating vendors were working with this theme, so conceptualisation took us a good two months. But, the shoot turned out better than we dreamt it would and we are all extremely happy and thrilled with the results.
I’m sure there were many behind-the-scenes moments we’re not aware of. Share with us a fun behind-the-scenes moment!
Melody: Oh, where should I begin! There were so many! From the failed shots that had us laughing so hard, to our friends’ numerous attempts at throwing feathers for a particular shot to Shuying’s (from MerryLove: Weddings Things) quick thinking to tackle the rainy weather. If I had to pick just one fun moment, I’ve got to say it was Brad earning his “pokerface” nickname. You see, Brad isn’t too fond of being a subject, so he doesn’t have too many expressions for the camera. So it was a little difficult getting him to cooperate in the beginning, which earned him the nickname “Pokerface”. But once we interacted and bonded as a team, he loosened up and was more comfortable with having a camera pointed at him. He even told the girls they didn’t have any more rights to call him “Pokerface” by the end of our second shoot!
