Designer Feature: Jenny Packham 2015 Bridal Collection
Jenny Packham mesmerises as usual with her 2015 Bridal Collection at the New York Bridal Fashion Week. Full of molten golds, antique silvers and shimmering ivories, the wedding gowns glow with Packham’s signature classical glamour.
I love Jenny Packham. She’s one of my favourite bridal designers. Well known for her glamorous, classic aesthetic, Packham constantly reinterprets the sparkle of Old Hollywood’s silver screen. The results are always beautifully feminine, and stunningly sophisticated. The elegant, flowing silhouettes and the gorgeous glitter of her signature crystal and beadwork create gowns that are understatedly luxurious and characteristically nostalgic.
Jocasta RioNellyNoaLeilaJosephineGarboThe 2015 Bridal Collection is inspired by a series of 1930s portraits by photographer Madame Yevonde, known as The Goddesses. The stylised images portrayed society ladies as mythological figures such as Helen of Troy, Dido, and Venus, capturing a world of antiquity in soft, romantic hues. With this neoclassical ambience for inspiration, Packham’s 2015 collection also plays with light and colour to create ethereal gowns that move and catch the light like liquid precious metals.
The collection features gowns in buttermilks, champagnes and warm caramels, each flowing and accentuating the graceful female form. Celestial capes, whimsical hemlines and exquisite overlays of scintillating crystals give the collection a mythical feel, and ethereal silk chiffons and delicate French lace add to the impression of goddesses gracing the runway.
MerleLolaHelenaKellyMonroeHattyHarlowA big fan of her signature crystals and graceful 1920s silhouettes, I am captivated by the jewelled belt and shoulder accents that turn Billie into a gown worthy of a goddess. Leila, with its dainty beaded design on an ethereal tulle overlay, is another of Packham’s style signatures. The wow piece in the collection, in my opinion, has to be Jocasta. With crystals delicately worked onto an illusion neckline, Jocasta looks like it’s cut out of a beautiful rosy dawn sky still sparkling with a thousand stars.
