Designer Feature: Jenny Packham Bridal 2016
Jenny Packham’s Bridal 2016 collection is a regal, whimsical fantasy inspired by the characters of Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Glimmering with an otherworldly lightness, the gowns floated down the runway with the brand’s signature elegance.
When we got the invite to Jenny Packham’s Bridal 2016 runway show in New York, I did a little squeal inside. I was going to see the runway showcase of my favourite designer! I love the distinctive clean lines of her work, intensified with gorgeous, elegant embellishment. And the Art Deco references in the bridal line make for truly incredible gowns.
For the Bridal 2016 collection, Jenny Packham showed a glittering bevy of gowns inspired by the faerie realm of Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream. An Impressionist watercolour backdrop flanked by flower-filled gold urns, and bright runway lights in the dim hall created thesensethat we were at the theatre. And with the first glittering gown, we entered Shakespeare’s magical world.
The collection featured celestial silk tulles and cascading silk chiffon that floated with an otherworldly grace, and majestic details such as ostrich feathers and appliqué organza blooms. Glimmering Swarovski crystals danced under the golden moonlight from the theatrical lights, and delicate floral lace and beaded foliage motifs celebrated nature’s opulent artistry. In svelte silhouettes and romantically sculpted corsetry, the gowns’ flowing layers rustled down the runway, evoking the whispering leaves of a magical forest. Whimsically short dresses skipped sprite-like down the runway in summer shades of sky blue and rosy dawns, accented with lush velvet bows.
All too soon, the gowns appeared for their final scintillating turn under the golden glow of the spotlights, and the last shimmering skirt whisked away from sight. With a sigh, I rubbed the magic dust from my starry eyes and reluctantly awoke from this midsummer night’s dream.
