Amanda Lee Weddings @ Pan Pacific Singapore
It was like a summer garden party at Amanda Lee Wedding’s April runway show. There was a gorgeous assortment of pink parfaits, lemon meringues, different coloured macarons, creamy piped cakes and fluffy Mont Blancs. And no, I don’t mean the edible ones on the table.
Aptly named “Summer Concerto”, Amanda Lee Wedding’s collection, showcased on April 10 2010 at Pan Pacific Singapore, added a delightful burst of fun colours to a show that is usually a pure white event. The boutique has always been known for taking the classic wedding gown and introducing an edgier flair or a play on colours for brides who don’t want to settle for the conventional.
The show opened with a white gown with a sheer lace bodice and full tulle skirt, decorated with floral appliqués that resembled sugar-icing flowers on a cake. Following straight after was a fuchsia pink satin and chiffon confection with a softer silhouette, with tiny flowers and frills at the hip, enhancing the waistline. Next up, a robin blue and gold gown with a sweetheart neckline, the ruching on the skirt bringing to mind the soft and delicious waves of icing on a cupcake.
Apart from the gowns, there were also short tea-dresses perfect for a summer wedding. A pretty, white knee-length dress with a satin floral toga that runs delicately down the side of the dress made a rather dramatic entrance on the runway, followed by a black-and-white contrast of men’s suits. Though the cuts of the suits were decidedly simple, the designers dressed them up with a playful fuchsia pink pocket square here, and an eye-catching black-lined vest there, featuring styles that were wearable yet memorable.
Petite brides were also not forgotten, for this collection also features coloured dresses that are perfect for an evening wedding. These sassy numbers in hues of blue and green, with origami flower appliqués and printed organza bows, shows that you can still make a fashion statement on your wedding night.
Bringing the attention back to the wedding gowns, the highlight of next series of dresses were still on flowers, whether they were in the form of embroidery or appliqués. You’ll see them hand-sewn tightly together on the skirt of a tube gown, enhancing an otherwise simple empire gown, across a white ruched gown in bold red, and pretty in pink on the waist of a light, layered gown.
I’m sure the guests came away from the show feeling that summer has indeed blossomed on the runway from Amanda Lee Wedding’s Summer Concerto collection.
