The Sentosa, A Beaufort Hotel

hiya ladies, i've been getting a lot of email notifications of posting in this thread!!

i read PK's posting on cardblanche being recommended by fellow beaufort bride and i thought that's very familiar hehehe ;p

Cat, i had my 3-tier wedding cake from Pine Garden for 230 guests. i specifically requested that the hotel's patisierre cut my cake for serving (i didn't want any banquet service staff or hot kitchen cook doing the job) and i can tell you that they cut it up very nicely, neatly but in small bite size pieces.

i ended up only serving the bottom tier of my cake, and the rest sent to the suite. i don't think you really need a big cake if your party is so much smaller than mine?

Hi PK, no I've never head of a scramble cake. I tried to google it, it comes back with really strange results :P

Hi stickymouse! nice to 'meet' you
happy.gif
you have a point, i dont really need a big cake.

The Patissiere suggests each slice to be 1.5" x 1.5" but that seems a little small piece for me. The wedding cake will be served a part of the dessert buffet & I'm not sure if its too small a piece ...

I will make a trip down to Pine Garden as well. I heard the lychee martini is like THE flavor?
happy.gif

Oh PK, I found a wedding card designer on Etsy.com just now. She can personalise the card designs & her price is very reasonable too, despite the USD price tag.

So lets see how it goes. She's coming back to me with the artwork for the invite, favor tags, table numbers & menu (i know, hotel does it too, but i vain .... ). Her shipping is free!

hi PK, no need to give credit la... i really had fantastic vendors for the entire wedding, it's good to share these names where needed!

cat, i think my cake slices ended up about 2" x 1.5" and yeah, they're served along with the desserts in the menu, so a real wedding cake is really for the bride to feel good rather than fill the guests hehehe

you need to decide if you want to cake outdoors or indoors. if outdoors, don't think PG cakes can tahan. i chose 3 different flavours from PG cake (lychee martini, blackforest, and this belgian orange chocolate thingy). and yes, lychee martini was the base tier that was served ;) i refused to step out to greet my guests goodbye until i had my cake!!!

speaking of which... the real top-tier cake that Beaufort provides is still sitting in my freezer!! meant to eat them on 1st anniversary, but we went overseas. our baby is going to be born already and the cake is still there hahaha

Congrats Stickymouse! When is your baby due? So, i reckon u are more active in the SG motherhood forum now!;-) Hahaha, maybe u can eat the cake during the baby's one month old party!!

Cat, it's your BIG DAY so u can personalize it in all ways u want!!:-)

wow, this thread is becoming active again!

Mine is at Ginger room, a BBQ dinner too, hope it will be fun.

PK (livinginsg): How's your nego w/ the hotel? I tried to ask for free cockage but failed, probaly coz we only 5x guests.

I will get my friend to design the invitation card and get it printed at Bras Brsah too, it's just opposite my church
happy.gif
.

Have u all settled the decoration yet?

Hi ChaCha! Wow, yours is a BBQ dinner too, awesome!:-)

My hubby is still negotiating with Clara; think he is going to call her again tomorrow. Will keep you posted.:-)

My decor is more or less finalised, we went with Jane of Simply Flowers.

Need to tap on all your brains: We want to do away with the childhood photo montage. Apart from the video, any other ways of displaying the pictures? I can only think of sticking them on the easel..help!:-)

Stickmouse, i have a reception question. You had your solemnization, followed by dinner if i recall correctly? So, all the guests will head straight to the Lawn? Do i need to put up a reception area there? It will be free seating.
Or, is there only 1 reception area at the ballroom so that they can be directed to their seats for their dinner?

Hi girls, the BBQ does sound fun. I am hoping to achieve an informal fun feel to the whole event. I dont want people to just sit down & eat.

The hotel recommends Jane to me too. I havent met with her yet. My hubby wants me to use our own florist though. He feels she knows our likes & dislikes best. But I still want to give Jane a go before I decide.

PK, you can have them in picture frames & use them as part of the centrepiece decor for each table. And have a story behind each picture. That will entertain the guests
happy.gif

Or have it part of your guest book like in a scrapbook kind of way with stories.

Or, instead of a guest book, have wish cards. You can have the photos stick on the cards or make it into postcard size, & have people write their wishes, advice or share a memory that they have of you on the back of it.

Just a few ideas for the morning

Hey ladies, it's amazing to see the thread becoming so lively again.

Like PK, my fiance wants to do away with the childhood video montage too. He wants to do something with polaroids for the guests.

Anyone of you ladies planning to engage a live band for your wedding? My fiance is quite the music lover and he wants live music during the dinner and some after-dinner dancing.

happy.gif

thanks PK, i'm due in June and expecting a boy
happy.gif
there's no way i can keep up the threads in the motherhood forum 'cos it's practically a real-time chat window over there.

we only had one reception table outside the Grand Salon. somehow people will know the holy matrimony is downstairs at the lawn (had ushers and the hotel put up a sign too). i don't think the no. of reception tables is an issue.

it was free seating for me too, but remember to reserve seats for your family and receptionists who might join in later (up to your creativity, i just had simple seat tags).

i did away with childhood montages too (i mean, that's the only day i get to look glam. there's no way i'd present or-bit 1980s photos!!!)

rie, i had disposable wedding cameras at every table... but the costs of developing the photos was quite a killer..

HARHHAA!

yeah i know, thats the bad part. polaroids probably would cost even more.

did any of u girls learn dancing for the actual day? cos, i'm using the Grand Salon and i have enough space for a dance floor. (and, i dont wanna look like an elephant on my AD)

Anyway, congrats on your baby boy stickymouse.

Hi rie! Nice to meet you. We're not having a live band. One of our friends is a dj & she'll be compiling all music on the ipod, including the processional & wedding march & our first dance
happy.gif

And stickymouse, we have another friend who used to be a tv producer in australia & he'll be our videographer for the day & he suggests that he puts a clicker camera there - like one of those onn reality tv.

Anyone can sit infront of the camera (like the godfather) & say something good, funny or whatever into the camera. We kinda like the idea but no sure if our chinese relatives will like it.

Or the one is the polaroid booth where people can go it & get their pictures taken
happy.gif
I've seen that before. If your guests are really fun & have a sense of humor, the photos comes out very very good
happy.gif

Hi rie, we did think about getting dance lessons. But we also want to be spontaneous as well. I'm really not keen on the traditional waltz or ballroom dances but at the same time, disco's a little cheezy.

We only know that we want a first dance, but havent decided how we want to do that yet
happy.gif

Morning girls! So wonderful that we are heating up this thread!

Thanks Stickymouse! Great, now i dun have to worry about setting up another reception area at the Lawn. If we dun talk to you in the next couple of months,we will know that you are busy!;-) CONGRATS again!:-)

Thanks Cat for all your wonderful ideas! Initially, i wanted to use the pictures as centerpieces too but that means we can only have 10 pictures. Hmmm, i have to think harder on this..

Hi Rie! We engaged A Little Dream. Came to know of them through my photographer. Caught them in action and we were duly impressed.:-) Am not learning dancing though, haha we prefer to just take it easy and eat during the dinner.

Hubby and i are taking a short trip to KL this Sun. Actually, he has a seminar and i am tagging along. As he puts it, it is our last trip as Singles!haha

Hey Cat, your photo ideas sound really fun! If i were your guest.. i would have tons of fun.. harha! Nice meeting you too!

Same here.. i don't want something waltzy. But maybe to get the basics. fiance and i have 2 left feet!

PK, i heard A Little Dream is really good..but slightly pricy? but hey, if its worth it..
happy.gif

Thanks rie! Re the photos - we're like to do it or not to do it. We know that our friends & his family will be very gung-ho. But not my family. They are very reserved people & I'm just the opposite! hehehehe

Hey rie, how much did you pay total for the disposable cameras? did u get those normal ones or those with wedding designs one?
Thanks =)

Hi girls! Update-We have only managed to get corkage waived for 5 bottles of champagne. Subsequent corkage of $30nett will be imposed.

Hi Rie, I spoke with Yours truly, Compass entertainment and A Little Dream and their charges were in the same range. Perhaps a difference of $100 or $200? But Bevlyn, the founder of A Little Dream is the most prompt and enthusiastic of them all. Will let u know how they turn out next month.;-)

Hi Cat, am going to proceed with the idea of putting "wish card" for each guest at the table. That way, i can do away with the guest book at the reception area. yeah!:-) Am only going to KL, not HK. How i wish it was the latter!;-)

Happy weekend to ALL!

Hi all,

Just putting some feelers out about letterpressing - do people go for that? It's beautiful, and definitely the norm overseas, but are there people willing to spend that much on invites here?

Hi PK! Thanks for the champagne update. How was your KL weekend? Did you shop shop shop? :P

Awesome that you are going with the wish cards. Let me know how that turns out
happy.gif

Hi Emily, I love letterpressing simply because it is beautifully old world. As to whether how much people are willing to spend, it all boils down to what your priorities are.

Oh girls, ordered my wedding cake over the weekend by the way, from CherylShuen.

3 tiers, 2 flavours (chocolate & orange with cranberry). Hubby signed her up on the spot while I was feeling the ouch ouch ouch in the pocket :P

Hi PK,

Thanks for sharing your info. I hope I would be able to get corkage waiver too. I'm planning to bring a few bottles of Moscato in!

Cat, my fiance also wants to get a cake but i do feel that it's abit luxurious. harhaha! but your cake sure sounds yummy!!

Hi Chan Kok Jun, I've not gotten the cameras yet.. but, i'd be planning to get the normal polaroid ones with the film. Not sure how much I would incur althogether!

so who's getting married when? so far i read Cat's wedding is in Oct. PK is next?

any photos to view thus far? hehe... my wedding's long over but still like to admire pretty wedding things...

hey stickymouse! my studio shoot is in jul & we're not doing any outdoor stuff.

what about you? can share your photos? :P

by the way, is anyone here on facebook?

why not outdoor? i was the total opposite... i didn't choose to be in studio hehehe. on hindsight.. i think gowns show up better in studio shots. i didn't think my outdoor shots did my gown justice at all

if u scroll back a few archives i'm sure u can find the link to my photos (and few others actually, go as far back as 2006/2007. some nice bride had shared her URL too when I was planning)...

i'm on facebook
happy.gif

I'm on facebook too!

hey cat, my PS is also in Jul but its end Jul. I'm planning to do more outdoor than indoor shots though.

My AD is early Nov! when's yours?

U know, i was reading thru the various threads on the different hotels and i do think the Beaufort brides are a certain 'type'. Good type! harhhaa!

Hey stickymouse, found your link
happy.gif
i also want to make the entrance via the stairs but my hubby keeps teasing about me falling down & landing on my bum with my gown over my head. make me nervous only .... you looked very confident & there is one shot that is esp beautiful - the solemnisation in the sunset & how your gown spread out. Wow!!! You were a beautiful bride that day!
happy.gif

No outdoor cos i know will get grumpy in the hot sun. I've not patience going from place to place. Indoor, has aircon :P

Hi rie, my AD is 31st Oct & my studio shoot is targetted for early Jul before i go away for hols (in case i eat too much! hahahaa)

by the way, is the grand salon all carpeted? if so, how are you going to dance?

thinking of renting a portable dance floor. they have that in the states but i can't seem to be able to find it here. maybe should contact an event co.

any ideas girls?

hey cat, thanks for ur compliments
happy.gif
you don't have to be afraid of walking down the stairs (you'd have your dad to hang on to?) hahaha...

as for dance floor, just ask from the hotel. they should have equipment to lay over the carpet. you don't have to rent from third party. that said, i didn't have any dancefloor, i'm assuming based on the knowledge i have of hotel industry.
happy.gif

Oh no! They don't provide the hard flooring?

Hmm, that sucks.

Cat, did u manage to check how much putting the dancefloor would cost?

Anyway, will add u girls later on FB.

Morning Stickymous & rie, what it sucks.

Rie, don't know how much it'll cost to put a temp one in. First i need to find someone who can do it for us & so far, no one can. They sell but not rent portable dance floors
sad.gif

Will let you know. Yours is Nov right?
happy.gif

Stickymouse, how's your little boy is your tummy? Is he behaving himself or is he already playful? :P

hi ladies,

im sorry but this is super embarassing.. how do i check my private messages?

harha! appreciate ur help!

Hello ladies.. I added u both on FB already.

Actually Cat, mine is only 1 week after urs! I'm 7 Nov!

How many tables u have? Stickymouse.. how many tables did u have?

Cat, i can't remember but hv u gotten ur florist yet?

Wow!

That's really nice and cosy..

I'm also thinking of getting my own florist. Have u met up with the Beaufort appointed florists?

I met with one of them - located in Harbourfront. I didnt really like her work. Have yet to meet with the 2nd one - located in Central i think.

Probably will do so sometime in Apr. To see what she can provide.
happy.gif

What about you?

I have not met with both.

Do we just make an appointment with them and go down straight?

My mum's friend is a florist and I quite like his work.

But, i'm still keen in keeping my options open for now..

What is ur bridal studio?

Yes. Get their contact details from your wedding coordinator. Is yours Maria?

My dress is made by Amor Meus. I didnt go by the traditional route
happy.gif

Mine was Cathy.

But till now, no one has yet to follow up with me. Fiance is not impressed with their service though.

Mine was Cathy too & i was in the same situation as yours.

I called the hotel & asked to speak to the director of catering when none of my emails were replied to & none of my calls were returned. It was only then that i found out that Cathy left & Maria was supposed to be in touch with me.

I wrote to Maria a few times & still no reply. Finally, I wrote to her & gave her a deadline to reply to me. I was prepared then to walk away from the whole deal & if I dont get my money back, I was going to go to CASE. For we didn't get the service that we are promised in the contract.

Luckily she responded & we met up. Cathy handed nothing over to her. I had to brief her all over again. We were very unimpressed.

But Maria is more responsive after our face-to-face meeting. She typically replies after a day or two.

I am conscious that my wedding is still a way to go but because i am planning everything myself, it goes without saying that i will have questions along the way. It helps when the hotel is cooperative.

Cat, i just saw your post on FB.

Thanks for your help. It is much appreciated.

Damn, which means that I have to call up Beaufort to meet up with Maria or Clara or whoever is in charge?

:\
