Good to hear fave reviews. Heard they have a new Chinese chef recently. My own dinner is coming, hope they'll keep it up!!

Hi,

can anyone share with me on what freebies I can wrangle out of Marriot? I have set my place on the hotel already and now need to negotiate for stuff before I sign.

BTW, I was told that the Chef from Wan Hao, the chinese restaurant is a seven-year award winner, so I presume food should be good right?

Hi kidman,

So far, my coordinator at Marriott has been very polite and receptive to my requests. When I met up with her, she was also quite warm and sincere. My only unhappy part is that the emails she sent me are cut and copied from others (with the tell-tale small arrows at the begining of every line and broken paragraphs). She also got the spelling of my bf's name and his address wrong too.

But these are minor details when compared to my experience with her in person.

What exactly are you looking for in a ballroom?

Hi Lilac,

Yep I'll be confirming my dinner tmr. How about you?

This thread is pretty quiet. Where are the other Marriot brides?

Hi Dophie,

thanks for replying. I have requested for the agreement to be emailed to me first before the show so that I can take a good look at it. Now got some issues with the deposit, think it is a bit high. Is yours 6k as well? Angela told me it is their hotel's standard policy

Hello Lilac and Dolphie,

Hope you don't mind me joining you in this thread... I'm signing up with Marriott next week because the wedding show tomorrow is full and I can't go even though I offer to stand

Enjoy yourselves tomorrow and come back to share with me, can?

Hi mail lum,

so will you be getting the perks even if you don't attend the show?

Btw, when's your wedding date? Mine's 28 Aug 03

Hi Lilac,

Were you at the show? It was crowded! The desserts were yummy, weren't they?
happy.gif

My deposit's only $4k. Is yours going to be a weekend wedding? Is that why it's $6k?

Hi mail lum,

Welcome welcome! When's your wedding date? And yes, are you getting the same perks that were offered during the show?

lilac

New Member
Hi Dolphie,

were you told that there is a second deposit to be made three months to your wedding? That will be another 2k and that makes up 6k in total. That was what I meant. Other hotels only require about 2k to 3k and you don't have to pay anything until the wedding.

My wedding is actually on a Thursday. What about yours?

Yup I the desserts were quite yummy but that's for those who opt for the dessert buffet for their wedding dinner right?

Hi Lilac and Dolphie,

My wedding date is 8 March (Sat) but dinner will be on 10 Mar (Mon)

I won't be getting all the perks offered during the show because mine is quite a unique case. I wanted to hold my dinner on a Thursday but the date was already taken. So, they counter-offered me a Monday but as you know, Monday's package is more expensive so I told them I don't want it. In the end, they offered me to hold the dinner on Monday but with the Thursday's package... menu will be Thurday's as well. But they can only give me one of the perks - 1 complementary table. No free flow of beer or $30 discount
sad.gif
. Do you gals think it's a good deal? Do you think I should ask for more freebies?

I wasn't told that I have to pay another $2k three months before the wedding. oh dear...

Hi mail lum,

you may want to check on the 2nd deposit. I din know it until I receive the agreement from them. But I was told by my coordinator, Angela that that's the hotel policy. That't why wanted to check with other people who are also holding their dinner at Marriot. A comp table is quite a good deal already, cos' it is worth $600 plus. As for beer, I was told that the average consumption for a dinner is about 2 x 20L barrel. So not too worry too much.

dolphie

Hi Lilac,

Yes, I've just read through my tentative agreement and saw the $2k. She didn't bring it up to my attention though, only saw it when you mentioned it. Oh well, I've already paid the deposit, and am fixed on Marriott. Am okay with the $6k deposit cos it's not paid at one shot. Also lessens the amount paid on the dinner too. So, did you sign up with Marriott yesterday?

My wedding will be on a Tue, initially wanted Thur but someone paid the deposit first hence that couple got the date instead of us even though we booked the date first (tentatively).

Hi mail lum,

Monday's a good day and I agree with Lilac. A comp table is quite good as it's worth more than a free barrel of beer. Maybe you could try to ask them for other things, besides the perks?

Hi Lilac and Dolphie,

Thanks for your reassurance. I was actually more interested in the other 2 perks - free flow of beer or $30 discount but i guess, the comp table is the most economical for them... since it just means "cooking a bit more"

.

So, have you both signed the agreement yesterday? When are you weddings?

Hi Dolphie & mail lum,

yes, I have paid my deposit at the show yesterday. My wedding will be on 28 Aug 03, a Thursday.

Just out of curiosity, will you girls be offering wine for your dinner, cos' I understood from Marriot that there is a cockage charge of $20+++ for wines, unless you want to buy theirs. Cockage for hard liquor is waived.

Hi

Can anyone share abt the perks at Marriott Show?

Are weekend dates still available?

How much are weekday & weekend rates per table?

Hi May03 bride,

the perks from the show are: free flow beer, $30 off every table and 1 complimentary table.

You may want to call Marriot and check if there are any more weekends. Weekday is from $668 per table and weekend is from $778 per table.

Hi Lilac,

I was told that if you buy the wine from them, it's only about twenty-something dollars +++. I can't remember exactly the amount but I recall that it is more worth it to get it from them than to bring in your own and let them charge the $20+++ for corkage.

BTW, do you know how strict they are about hard liquor? Will they close one eye on duty free ones?

Thanks Lilac,

I have called Marriott, the weekend price is $878.

However, they are willing to extend the perks till end of this week.

No many weekend dated left though.

Hi mail lum,

cockage on hard liquor is waived. You may want to confirm this with Marriot again. I have now wondering if I should get the wines from them. Like you say, it is not worth it to bring your own and let them charge you $20 per bottle.

Hi May03bride,

I thought weekend rate starts from $778 or did you upgrade your menu?

Did you attend the bridal show, that's why they are wiling to extend the perks to you? Have you asked them to lock in any date for you. I think you better do so, in case they let it out to other people.

Hi Lilac,

You're right. Cockage for hard liquor is waived but just wondering if i can bring in duty-free liquor.... heard that hotels are quite strict about this.

Hi May03bride,

Are you looking at Sat and Sun only. If so, then yes, prices start from $878. But if you're looking at Friday also, then the package start from $788 (i think)

dolphie

Hi mail lum,

I have the feeling that they are very strict on duty-free hard liquor. Reason being that it's illegal to be distributed in Sg.

Hi May03bride,

Marriot has 3 different packages. One for tues to thur, one for mon and fri, and one for the weekend. So it depends on which date you prefer. Better to call them and reserve the date fast if you're fixed on Marriott! Weekend dates for 2003 are being snapped up quite fast. At least that's the impression I got from the show.

Hi Lilac,

As I've free flow of beer for the dinner, doubt if I'll be providing wine though. Maybe for just the VIP tables, but definitely not for all my guests.

Hi,

I just attended my friend's wedding at Marriot 2 wks ago. I ABSOLUTELY LUUUUURRRVVE the DESSERT!!!!! they had "selection of Western cakes" for dessert. I tell u, it was SO GOOD! there were 10 cakes, 4 types - mango mousse, chocolate mousse, chocolate fudge with some red stuff in it, and this green tea mousse thing. it was really heaven. we all had sugar high after that. and cos we were close friends on the table, we just attacked the cakes and tried all the different types.

if u have a choice, must choose that for dessert!!!

Hi Orchid,

Thanks for the feedback! I think some of those desserts were offered during the bridal show and it was fabulous!

Only problem is, they do cost extra per table to have the desserts. So.....prob not for myself. :p

What about the rest of you guys? Are you considering have that western dessert added in?

lilac

New Member
Hi Orchid, thanks for giving your feedback. Besides the dessert, how do you find the food?

Hi Dolphie, I don't think I will go for the western buffet cos' that will be additional costs.

Btw, do you know if the lucky draw for the comp wedding diner is drawn already? Cos' I din stay till the end of the show on Sunday.

Hi Orchid,
other than the yummy Western desserts, how are other dishes and how's service?

Hi Lilac,

The lucky draw was supposed to be drawn at the end of Sunday. And the results are going to be published in today's New Paper. Although, me thinks that if they hv not called you by now, prob lucky winners not us.

Or is it that you have to stay on till the end of the show for the free dinner prize? I only stayed for the top 3 wakiki and photoshoot prizes.

Hi worried (don't worry too much ok?
happy.gif
),

wah.. didn't know it was a $20 top up!! it was a wedding lunch instead of a dinner, so the cakes were really great end, and we had the whole evening and nite to digest all the food (didn't need dinner that nite) but i think if you're having a dinner it might be too heavy for the guests.

the rest of the food was ok. quite normal. we had DIY popiah for 1st dish. rather unique, but messy.

Hi Orchid, sorry to mislead, the approx $20 or more top-up is per table for chinese banquet dinner, not per pax

Hi,

I am new here.

Booked my dinner for next year June. it is a Friday. cost per table is $758/$788 pending 8/9 course.

Free flow of beer. The cost of red wine starts from $22 - $32++ per bottle.

Hope that i make the correct choice. Did not attend any show, and just compare the dinner package between Four Season and Marriott.

Hi Nokia,

So you signed up during the promotion?
Well don't worry. I've heard good things about Marriott too and it's prices seem more reasonable than Four Seasons.

Hi Dolphie,

I think the price that i am paying is reasonable and the service should be good as Marriott is quite accomodating.

I am glad that we are sharing a good experience at Marriott. Who is your co-ordinator, my is Lilian.

Mail lum,

Nokia,

As I've mentioned, my coordinator's Lilian too. Have you booked your bridal boutique yet?

Hi Amore, welcome to the thread! Same as you, my coordinator is also Angela, find her quite flexible and helpful. I got her to block my date for me and I went down to the show to sign with them and make my deposit.

Hi Dolphie and mail lum, I have not started on shortlisting yet cos' I haven't really seen anything that I like from the magazines and website. Hubby and I are quite particular in photography, we somehow have not found any photographer with the kind of style we like. Am actually comtemplating to use a bridal shop up in KL, have seen their pictures on their website and fell in love with them instantly. Just that distance could be a problem.

hi all,

pending on the day, you can look at min 25 tables on weekday (except Sat/Sun), else should be like Dolphie said, should be 30 tables.

Max from what i know is 55 tables.
