u girls really went down many times before deciding e design =) I decided on my second time there..haha.

laceyblink: did u try on e different types of cut? after trying e different cutting of EG it shld be easier to decide on what u want?

I would very much appreciate if someone can let me know if they know of any bad commments or unethical/unprofessional designers to beware of from Sil. my email is [email protected]

Thanks, I really hope that I will not have much bad experiences with them.

Hi Coco, i m using Selina as my designer. So far so good... i like her as she is quite new so still quite enthusiastic to please the customer. u know lah... usually the seasoned designers wont try too hard to please the clients.

As i m quite a fickle person, i change my mind quite often and she is fine with it.

nah.... don't think I will want to spoil anyone's name here.. because it is the chemistry between you and the designer... and also the case has been closed or so to speak... I have actually yet to go down to inform them of my selection of the EG..

hmmm think less than a year.
I think her suggestions are ok.
But i think nobody knows ur body better than urself.

Do some research on the gowns that u like and ask her to let u try on the gowns that they have off the rack to know what type of cutting suits u.

Selina is quite nice.
The original design that i wanted to choose for my evening gown was a mermaid dress.

Stamford house happen to have a piece that is similar to what i m looking for. So Selina called me to go over to try it.

I tried it and absolutely hated it. hahahah...
In the end i asked her to make the evening gown based on my "2nd choice wedding gown" but in a different colour. The 2nd choice wedding gown is something that i really like but thought it is not glam enough for a wedding gown.

To be truthful, if possible take off the rack. Lower risk. I have quite a few friends including my own sister had nightmares with their MTM gowns (various bridal studio)

tinktink's right, u will know ur body best =)

I'm with Kenji but have always seen Selina serving other clients very nicely and she's very friendly too everytime im there..

OTR is really the safest choice cos u pay for wat u see.. my package includes mtm EG so i was also quite worried over the MTM EG which I was gg to do but in e end, me and fiance loves it to bits. It was even nicer than what we've imagined! But I would say it's also because he has let me tried on a few different types of cuts of EG and I decided on e cut and we discuss e other details tgt. I've done my homework prior to that and we know clearly what we wanted. e cut n design was decided on my 2nd EG discussion and the 3rd trip was to try on my EG(without embellishments) already..

coco: Just drop by and have a personal interaction with the designers & try on e gowns cos ultimately, different pple prefer diff designers =)

yup, thanks everyone for your advices. In fact I have already made an appt with Kenji (Amoy) and Selina(Stamford) this coming Fri. I called to request for Kenji personally and for stamford house i didnt know who i should request so I just fate decides. Hahaha..

By the way, i heard that in most BS, OTR gowns are soooo small and I am not petite at all so does it mean that I have to take MTM? or limit myself to the limited bigger sizes gowns there? I'm about a size 12.

Coco: usually it'll b e one who answered ur call tst'll serve u I think..I think it's not a big prob, u can still try on e gowns juz to c how they look like frm e front .. They can pin or hold e back of ur gown for u.. As for whether u need to mtm, it'll b better to ask e designers for info. Hope u have fun trying e gowns!;)

Hi Rol, I agree is all up to the chemistry between the bride and the designer. However, somehow I think it also boils down to the personality and disposition of the designer. This is a service industry and no brides will like to have a unethical / professional designer attending her...

Hi coco, u been to sil already?how's it? I dun have e list cos not using e mua till my AD which's still far away, maybe can ask e designers for e names?

I would love some recommendations too.,

pinkglove: yeah.. i was on leave ytd and went to 3 BS to shop for my WG. 2 of which are sil, cause i knew i wanted a tulle gown already.

I am really really impressed with sil's tulle gown. my hubby was telling me that the first BS i brought him to (Stamford house) gave him a very gd impression in the gowns and when we went to a 2nd BS (another BS) he was totally disappointed in their tulle gowns. I found something i really like in Amoy Street branch (thats my 3rd and last stop) and because i already have a preferred MUA from my ROM in Jan this year, I am contemplating to engage her or take up sil's mua. So not sure if anyone here or any ex-sil brides can share their experiences. I think i heard someone here mentioning abt Gin. Is TG Goh tied up to Sil?

I feel that Kenji sounds more experience than Selina and his style and taste pretty much match up with what I am going or looking for. Selina is very nice too, she let me try about 5 pcs and at Amoy i tried abt 4 i think. Lost count of them coz i was really tired from trying the gowns the whole of yesterday. haha.. but it was a very gd experience and sil gowns really look very glamorous and princessy. I have not sign up with them yet coz i wanna get more reviews on their mua. can anyone help?

Thanks

coco: knew u will love it cos SIL's tulle gowns are one of the best i would say
biggrin.gif

Actually u can choose not to take up Sil's MUA, i asked abt it before I signed and $300 will be deducted I think if i choose not to use their mua..and TG Goh's not tied up with Sil.. Are u interested in engaging him? I'm having him as my PS MUA but have not decided whether to have him as my AD MUA or take up Sil's mua..

pinkglove: do u have his rates for AD? btw can share his rates for ur photoshoot? i heard from somewhere he used to be sil's mua or maybe i heard wrongly. I'm actually thinking of engaging Sophia Chia as my mua, she did my sis wedding make up a few yrs back and i had her for my ROM this year. She is detailed and gd in her make up and hairstyling so i know she can deliver wat i want. I am not sure about sil's mua so trying to do some research on them so hoping any ex-sil brides can give me some advices.

Yup, can deduct $300 but if i engage sophia direct i think she charge alot more including PS make up. So just wondering if I shld just use sil mua. Sophia ties up with TWP but unfortunately i didnt like their tulle gowns coz i felt that the layers of tulle they use were much lesser than wat sil is using and the material of their tulle is sofer than sil so i think its not so puffy as those we see at sil. Didnt quite like their design though Patrick told me i can mtm based on my own design which i agree but just didnt felt good as a whole. So i'm most likely a SIL-to-be bride
happy.gif

the thing is i need to either choose to have the mua OR the MTM mens suit coz if i just want the WG and EG they dont allow me to take up the package so I need to have 1 more item in order to be entitled the package price. I'm not taking their flowers coz i already have a florist in mind and hubby has a suit that we made for our ROM. So confused now..

coco: TG Goh's AD rate is $1500 without trial make up. I'm sorry but I do not know his exact rate for PS cos it's a lump sum tgt with my PG cos he's tied up with him. Are u intending to have another suit made for ur hubby? Cos then u can take up their suit, if not u can just take their floral though u hae ur florist in mind cos u can still have e basic stuff by e florist den engage ur own florist for other stuff? Though that might mean a lot more coordination..

Or what about take up their mua but let the mua do the make up for ur mum or mum-in-law also? that's an alternative?

I feel exactly the same with TWP!! My fiance and me were just so disappointed after trying on their tulle gowns, I just didn't feel as much like a princess as I was when I was in Sil's gowns.. and though we can mtm but fiance don't feel confident to engage their service since he didn't see anything that gives us a wow effect when I tried on their gowns.. so fiance said it's clearly Sil ..

Hi cocotintin, I used Gin as my MUA for my wedding day. Personally speaking, I think her make up was OK, hair styling so so only. If u want something simple and basic, yes, Gin can do it. But if you are talking about those type of glamorous and 'WOW' effect hairdo, you might want to consider someone else. I wasnt quite impressed by her makeup and hairstyling skills but different brides have different expectations. I heard some brides commented about Joey before too. Maybe you will like to try her out..?

pinkglove: yeah so i am exploring all areas now to see. i might end up making an extra suit for my hubby and get another mua for AD but thats gonna be extra cost. got to think carefully. yeah my hubby said exactly the same as your SO. He said u pay for what u get and he was very supportive of getting SIL despite the extra premium that we r paying for. esp when they dont recycle their WG unlike TWP. besides that, TWP's cutting and material is really not very good (sorry if i offended any TWP's brides). is there anywhere online we can see TG Goh's works?

peace_lover: thanks for your feedbacks. any good or bad comments about Joey? Wondering who is the most experience mua in sil? can you share a photo of the make up and hair do Gin did for u for day and night? my email is [email protected]

pinkglove: i saw the link, thanks. btw when is your PS? u doing it locally or overseas? how did u decide on TG Goh? or was it becoz he is the only mua tied up with ur photographer?

My PS's this June, doing it overseas..

Hmm, actually TG Goh was one strong reason why I chose my PG cos they work tgt for this overseas PS..
lol.gif
cos I was deciding between a few PG back then n this was a pulling factor because TG's a reowned mua and also famous for natural make up which enhances facial features
happy.gif

wow.. ur doing ur PS so early ah? yeah.. i have also heard abt TG Goh. Rem to share about your experience abt TG Goh after your PS ya?
happy.gif

so i guess ur WG will be done real soon. I think i will drop by Sil again somewhere next week to confirm on the WG when i bring my mum and sis this time to give more comments.

Yup, cos my house gg to b ready next 1st quarter so we wanna get our PS over first n do our Reno after tat n also end yr's too cold for us,so just do it tis June ;) sure, will share on TG Goh when I'm back. I've already met him for discussion. He's really friendly n experienced. His ideas r wat I like too, along e classic line, I feel safe with him as my mua but prob after my make up, I'll b able to give a more accurate review ;)

Yup, my WG almost all done up ;)

pinkglove: do share pics of your WG when its done. I heard mixed reviews abt TG Goh, some say that he is really really nice but some had unpleasant experience with him. Think at the end of the day i might go ala carte.

Hi Cocotintin and Laceyblink, you got mail!

Cocotintin - There was some good comments about Joey previously by some brides. Actually, if I am not wrong, I think Gin is one of the most popular MUA in Sil. Sil do recycle their tulle bottom if you take their OTR gowns but they will MTM the WG top which you can mix and match their WG...

peace_lover: thanks for your mail. i find them very contradicting sometimes. They say that they do not recycle their gown and no 2 brides will have the same gown (for OTR) esp when they claim that all their gowns are brand new as in no brides have wore it for their photoshoot or AD. but i happen to see a gown wore by a bride during her photoshoot on the rack of SIL last Fri when i was there. Now im pondering if the gown that i modify will be on the rack after my wedding or not.

Any ex-sil brides had Joey as their MUA previously?

coco: why don't u ask e designer serving abt tis gown? Is it really the same gown? I'll be a bit disturbed if I know tat they recycle their gowns.. maybe i'll ask my designer e next time i drop by.. n regarding the mua, maybe u can let ur designer know ur preferred stye of make up and see who they can suggest?

yeah, i think i will question them again the next time i go down. I happen to see the gown yesterday in 1 of the photographer's blog coz i am currently sourcing for my AD and prewedding photographer and then this particular gown looks very familiar to me coz it looks exactly like 1 of the WG i tried out at stamford house. I am quite sure its from SIL coz the design is exactly the same. Maybe i shld try to dig out the photo and show it to them. I saw so many websites the last fews days until i cant recall i saw it at which photographer's blog.

I will do my research on the mua b4 i go down to sign the contract with them coz i am still contemplating to go ala carte or take their package. If I'm not confident of their MUA i will just go for someone im confident. really cant afford to screw up on my AD.

pinkglove, when is your next fitting?

pinkglove

New Member
Coco: this their advert photos.. If it's worn by models, it's not considered that it's been worn for brides PS since it's not brides who r wearing them?
Agree, muz b a mua u r totally comfy with.. It's scaryto b worried over how we'll look like on AD. But if u r not taking any packages frm them, will e price b worth it?
Me going next week for fitting..

no.. this gown was the gown i saw in 1 of the PS did by another bride not model. and i have diffcult tracing back the website coz i really cant recall where i saw it from. I was browsing over a few hundred photos everyday. i shld have save a copy of that link the moment i saw it. I will continue to find

Am thinking of getting the WG only and purchase a OTR evening gown elsewhere.. maybe from Avana or vera wang maids dress. but am just worried i might end up not able to find something that i like and have to MTM in the end. haha.. so confuse.

pinkglove

New Member
oh.. ya, can understand, i've been through the browsing of hundreds of photos everyday to choose my PG..haha... hope u find the photo..hehe.. but they can replicate similar gowns/tops if brides request right?

I see..i tink EG are more difficult to find OTR cos the colours are cuts are very specific to individual's likings.. hehe.. but prob this might be the best choice cos going totally ala carte for everything u'll get the best out of all e choices u have made =)

yeah that was wat i was thinking too.. maybe the bride requested for it but i just cant understand why that piece was still on the rack even when a bride had already requested for that.

i am digging all my history out now.. sigh

Hi Cocotintin, if you are considering Avana EG, I think is quite a gd choice. I bot my mum an EG from Avana for my AD banquet. A lot of ppl commented she looked really gorgeous and stunning in her gown! They have quite a wide variety of EG and the designs are really modern and contemporary!

cocotintin,

I have faced similar situation as you before and I had emailed the designer to clarify, which the reply given in their email was extracted as below:

"for that gown that you looking at, we got 3 pieces of the same design. we make one for (bride name) who shot by Kelvin from lighted pixels last year. one for the adv and book by a client in Dec/Jan and one for trying when the adv is out."

The designer suggested I MTM a gown to address my concern that there will be another bride wearing the same design although both are new pieces. After consideration, I did not sign with sil as I felt that for that design MTM and amount to top up, I can consider many other designer boutiques already.
