Hey Yvonne,

Not too sure on the exact number of tables yet but it will definitely be not more than 22 tables. My wedding is on a Sat.

Hi Happy,

But I thought ST weekend packages have to meet a minimum of 30 tables? They allow you to have less than that which is about 22 or less?

So, have you signed up for the package already?

Cos, I thought of getting from ST also, but i do not have so much tables. I got not more than 22 tables also, the same as you.

But, I have not went down to talk to the banquet manager yet as i have not fix the wedding date yet, waiting for the day to be fixed.

Hi Yvonne,

If I did not remember wrongly, they have 2 different wedding packages. You may wish to give them a call and let them know a rough estimate of the number of tables and see what they can offer before making an appointment with the wedding planner.

Btw, mine's a wedding lunch nt dinner.

Hi <FONT COLOR="0000ff">Happy</FONT>, almost forgot that urs is a wedding lunch. So is <FONT COLOR="ff6000">Mimosa</FONT>'s right?

Hi <FONT COLOR="aa00aa">Yvonne</FONT>, so you've ventured here at last. How's ur hunt with the venue? U shd really go to collect the brochures from the hotels u like, then shortlist from there. Go talk to the coordinators at the hotel, they'll be able to answer your questions much better than us :p The same goes for <FONT COLOR="ff0000">Adeline</FONT> too

Hi Happy

Thanks for your reply re. my posting on the short aisle.

Actually, I am a little confused now...i am not sure which ballroom i will be getting, i.e. the "L-shaped" or "Ballroom 1 &amp; 2"???

I had to have a minimum of 30 tables as my wedding is on a Saturday so which aisle will i get? I reckon its the diagonal one that is from the side door leading towards the stage? I seem to recall that its really really SHORT!!! boo hoo

Hi Jul'04,

Thanks. Will do. Waiting for the wedding date to be fixed, once it fixed, will go down to respectively hotels to get more info. Have shortlisted some hotels already. Just afraid that the no. of tables does not meet their requirement if I'm getting the weekend.

jul

New Member
Hi Worried,

The L-shaped ballroom is made up of Ballrooms 1, 2, 3, 4. So if Happy has 22 tables, she'll only be using 1 &amp; 2, so it's more rectangular, can have L-shaped aisle. If you're getting 30 tables, u'll prob have to use the first 3 ballrooms, even ballroom 4. so it's the really short diagonal one.

I'm thinking very hard on how to make the aisle longer. I agree that the diagonal aisle is ridiculously short! How to feel like I'm parading down like a princess *sob* If you find a way to make the aisle longer, let me know too k? I'm getting desolate! *sniff*

Hi Yvonne, then you'll be like me. I collected brochures from 8 hotels, in the end, had to throw out those which are out of budget or can't meet min tables, ending up with 4 hotels. Actually it's better. then u dun have to crack ur head. Just need to visit 3 or 4 hotels will do.

Hi Jul

Okay, here's what i'll do...i plan to go down to Sheraton soon on a weekend (surely there's a wedding?) and then go recce the place first...

IF i can figure out an ingenious way for us to 'lengthen' the aisle, i will post it up here immediately.

Ditto for you ok?

jul

New Member
Worried,

Yes yes! I'll call my coordinator to check if there's a wedding &amp; go recce. Maybe will be gd to take some pictures of the decor (flowers, table settings etc) other than the aisle right?

But not this weekend, coz my schedule is quite packed.

Hi Adeline,

Well I just went to Mandarin for a wedding dinner last Sat. If you're interested in the comments, u can come to the "Any July 2004 brides" thread to check it out. Not sure if it's archived tho. I did the posting on 23 Jun 2003. Just too lazy to reproduce it here again

Besides not so nice to post abt another hotel in ST's thread

Hello Adeline,

I think ST gives standard perks to everyone who signed up, egs are seat covers, intelligent lightings etc. These are not in the package they offer, but I think they extend to everyone these perks. Additional things that you may like to bargain are additional night stay, LCD projector etc. As for beer, no, they don't give free flow beer.

The food is very good in Sheraton. Asking around my friends and colleagues who had been there for weddings and company functions said that the food is nice. So I kind of feel at ease after so many good reviews. If you are still worried, then you can go to Li Bai and try out first.

If you ask me, I think Sheraton is value for money. It may be ex if you compare to 4* or 3* hotel, but cannot compare like that. U see what it has to offer for this price range, and u know what I mean. Their service is good, and I think most importantly, u got to feel at ease with your coordinator.

Hello everyone, I am currently looking for a hotel to have my wedding banquet. Came across this thread and found most of you having very good comments about ST. I too start to be very keen on it!!!!

Hello mimosa and berry, who is your coordinator? How much is the wedding lunch for one table? Is it a buffet style?

I quite like the idea that it is a lunch and not dinner. Or else people have to stay until very late into the night. I saw from the magazine that the ambience has lots of western floral deco too!!!

Please give me more advice on ST cos I am making a tough decisions between M and ST. And it is causing me a big big headahce!!! Please rescue me!!!

Hi Sweet! My coordinator is Alvin a very nice guy to talk, negotiate with.

I am having dinner not lunch sorry cannot help maybe someone else can advise you. I have my dinner on Sat so the table cost $880+++ and have to go for minimum of 30 tables . No choice cos both our parents have too many relatives and business friends which we cannot escape.

FYI-we confirmed direct to Sheraton , we did not really source for other hotels because we already knew the "quality" of the food &amp; their service so it did not come to our mind to consider other hotels besides we have attended few nice class hotels but the quality and service just cannot compare to Sheraton. We are happy and have confidence that this dinner will bring us a memorable one..

Hi Sweet,

Wedding lunch per table is $600+++ for 7 course sit down lunch &amp; buffet style is $60+++ per head.

If you want more details on their wedding packages, you can request for it to be emailed to you.

The same goes for me like Berry, we also went straight to Sheraton without sourcing for other hotels. Heard of the excellent food &amp; service! Thumbs-up for Sheraton! Go for it babe!

Thanks alot happy!

I am currently looking for a sunday to have my wedding lunch. The +++ is another 15% izzit? So that would add up to about another 100 odd. Sorry happy cos I am looking for a table around $700 and see if it can meet up with my budget.

I heard from mimosa's mail that the ambience is great and service too. That is exactly what I am looking for.

Must we pay for the chair covers? How much for one? I am making a trip down to ST this weekend and see the venue too.

Seniors do update me and advice me on it.

Thanks so much happy for your help!!!

Hi sweet,

To calculate the net price after adding in the +++, you multiply the table px by 1.11, then take the result &amp; multiply by 1.05.

It's true, Sheraton has a wonderful ambience. I rem I felt comfortable the moment I stepped into the lobby for the first time. And I saw Sally Yeh there! *heehee*

Do go to the hotel &amp; speak to the coordinators. They'll be able to advise you on the details of the package. Have a great time

Hi Berry,

I'm having a wedding dinner too. My wedding's far, far away - next yr. So I have plenty of time. Recently more occupied with sourcing for reno contractors, so haven't done much abt the wedding day itself. Guess I'll shelve wedding plans till after I complete my reno, hopefully b4 end of the yr.

How abt u, when's ur wedding? and how's the preps gog on?

Hi....

Anyone care to share with me what dishes are nice and what did you choose for your dinner?
I'm choosing dishes but too many dunno which one to choose.
Also, if we choose the 9 dishes for food tasting and after that we dun like some of the dishes, can we change the dishes to be served during the dinner????

Hi sept03,

The conpoy is nice (soup). Panfried cod fish is yummy, &amp; the jasmine chicken's also very gd. For first dish, I prefer the one with jellyfish, vege goose etc. Sorry, I can't rem the names of the dishes I tried.

Yes, ur actual dinner's dishes can be diff from the food-tasting's. But u can't taste one dish, then request for another dish to be tasted in the tasting session, if u know what I mean?

For the Jasmine chicken, is it fried or with gravy???

Anyone tried the steamed cod fish....dunno which one is nicer???

Also, for dessert, what's nice?? Is the mango pudding nice???

Hi Sweet,

The wedding lunch is $638+++ per table. Seat covers got to pay but u can negotiate till they give u FOC. Usually if u can meet min no. of tables, the seat covers would be complimentary.

Jul04,

My first appt with IC is in August. I haven't done anything yet. just came back from holiday. Still lazing around....

sweet

Thanks Berry and Mimosa!

My FH and me are considering on ST becos of the food........

Btw, the +++ is how many percent more.....16%?

Mimosa and Berry, are both of you having the sit around table lunch or buffet style? I am thinking of buffet style to cut cost but think better not or else elders will get unhappy.

What shld I negotiate with ST? Beers, can it be free flow?

mimosa

New Member
Sweet,

Rest assure, the food is great at Sheraton! I think for food, u do not need to worry much.

The +++ is calculated this way: eg. take $638 (the price of 1 table) x 1.1 (service charge) x 1.01 (CESS) x 1.04 (GST), u would arrive at ard $737 (nett price). To save time, u probably want to x 1.1554 to all the prices that u are quoted in. That saves the trouble of having times so many components.

Mine is a sit-down 7 course chinese lunch. Our parents do not like the idea of a buffet lunch. In fact, my in-laws do not like a banquet lunch at all, they prefer a dinner, but we managed to convince them coz our ceremony is very early in the morning, and there's not much for us to do in the afternoon. Besides it's a Sunday so we prefer to hold the banquet in the afternoon so that guests can go back early to prepare for work the next day and we have a little more time to have a dinner with family or close friends after that. Or simply a romantic candlelight dinner for two, instead of hitting the bed straight and snoring next after the late dinner.

We agreed by a min. of 30 tables, and the seat covers are FOC automatically without us asking. As for beer, it's never free flow at ST, unless there's a promo. We got a barrel free, coz our lunch does not come with any beer. Even for dinner, it's tough to get free flow. For lunch, usually the consumption of beer isn't that high, so even if u have to open another barrel, it's not exactly that much money. So try to get 1 barrel free by forgoing some of the freebies that they give, or simply by having more tables. If that 1 barrel (90 glasses) is really not sufficient, then u may get house pours by the glass, so that you do not need to waste the remainder if u do not finish the second barrel. We are serving wine and some hard liquor too, so I guess, the consumption of beer won't be that great.

Generally, it's not tough to negotiate with ST, I do not know about others, but the perks are almost offered to us, without us asking. Our coordinator told us that if we have more tables, it's easier for them to bend the rules coz the break even point is lower coz operating cost is relatively lower now, meaning that they can reap in more profits, so that puts us in a better position to ask for more perks.

Hope the above helps.

BTW, to all of you here, anyone of you apply for the Singaporebrides card? Issit useful?

Hi Mimosa,

Nice to hear from you again. Wow, u went on holiday? *envy*

First appt in Aug is a bit early isn't it? My first appt will be in Jan. But I guess the earlier you go to IC, the faster you'll settle the things, which will be a load off your mind! Right now, most of our energy is focussed on the hse. Getting keys next mth, so I forsee we'll be spending some time sourcing for reno contractors &amp; supervising their work
sad.gif
No time to do wedding preps for the time being

Hi Sweet,

I didn't get free flow of beer as well, &amp; mine's a dinner. Guess what Mimosa said is true, it's hard to get free flow beer from ST.

Yo Jul!

yeah yeah, good to hear from you too! this thread is rather quiet nowadays. I wonder how's sweet in her banquet booking.

Huh? first appt in Aug is early? IC told me they need 4mths to get the gowns tailored, so think that should be done in Dec. Then the PS is in Feb. End of year is rainy season, so not good to take pics. In fact, best months to take is May-June when the weather is extremely hot and the sky is blue, with white clouds.

I think I got more to prepare, coz my bridal package does not come with bridal car etc, so I got to look for car rental. No actual day photographer as well, does your package have all these?

Hi Mimosa!

Yup, it's been very quiet here. Seems like there aren't many ST brides?

Well... my bridal says they need 2 mths to do the gown, &amp; my PS is in Mar, so I guess Jan is alright. Actually mine's OTR, so I'll MTM only if I can't find any gown I like. Cross my fingers...

My package includes the car, &amp; car decor. Basically, it has everything! But I'm sourcing for actual day photgrapher on my own, even tho my shop offered to get me one for very reasonable rates. What car r u looking at? The conventional Merz or the London cab type?

jul

New Member
Hi Happy,

Wow, u really took ur time to sign the contract

So u got basically all that u need?

anyway, dun think u have to worry too much abt the bridal right? After all, u've decided on Bridal Veil right?

Hi Jul

yup, decided on BV so I'm just gonna relax till then...

How's your preparation going along?

Hi happy,

It's great that u can take ur time to negotiate. For us, we had to sign up w/o much negotiation coz we wanted the perks given in the bridal show. Great, now u can relax n wait for the coordinator to call u next yr yeah?
happy.gif

I'm looking for reno contractors &amp; IDs now. Time's a bit limited coz we can only meet them on weekends, as we normally end work quite late. So wedding plans are shelved for the time being
sad.gif
Wait till I find contractor, then can start thinking abt gowns, flowers, decor etc again

Jul,

I think my hubby prefers a more traditional type of car to fetch the bride. He prefers a Merz, but I like London Cab, or any other non-conventional ideas. My wedding is a half day event, and normally the car would be parked outside the hotel till after the dinner issit? Mine ends in the afternoon so do I have to pay rental for whole day?

jul

New Member
Hi Mimosa,

It depends on whether u want the car to be parked outside the hotel. Like if the bridal shop provides the car, then of course just request for the car to be parked there. But if u have to rent your own, it'll depend on whether u want to allocate the budget for it to be parked there doing nothing. U have to pay the rental for the whole day if u want the car for the whole day. But if it's just for half day, it's cheaper.

Hi Berry and Mimosa! I have signed on with ST already. Think you are right. They really have good service and very pro. Wherever I go it is the same here and there. It is the service and food that we are looking at.

Hi Sweet,

Wah...u make decision real fast, not like us, we took ages to confirm! My house is already done up but still looking for a poster bed and a dining table. Very busy recently, haven't gone to one place which a bride recommended to look for the bed. It's called Merchant Home or something. Very far the place, at Changi leh and I work in Tuas!
