yesterday i went to take a look at orchard hotel..the location is a bit far from orchard mrt but the ballroom and the foyer look presentable.

So my concern is about the service n food. hope you guys can provide me the valuable feedback. thanks!!
 
Dear brides to be at Orchard Hotel, I am back after my wedding last friday.
Here's some reviews:

Check In: Very Good. When we arrived at OH, there are already pple waiting for us. Everything is well taken care of. The bridal suite is big, nice and comfortable.

Pre Dinner Discussion: Very Good. The discussion was done in the suite. I think this is very good as I was able to listen to wad's going on. In situation where clarification are needed, both me and hubby were there.

During the dinner: Very very good. Banquet Manager Andy was very attentive to our needs. He knows his stuffs well and very flexible to our requests. XiaoMin, one of the hotel staff was attached to me to take care of me through out the whole dinner. She is very good and attentive. Its like a PA to me, taking care of my gown, asking me if i am tired and if i needed a drink. Took initiative to give me warm water and get me a chair to rest. During my 2nd march in, I did my own hairdo and she was there to help me too. A very helpful lady. So brides of OH, if possible, ask for Xiaomin as ur PA. You will love her service.

Food: Very Good. Although during our food tasting, we were not very impressed, however on the actual day, all food turn out to be very nice. All our guests were very satisfied.

After the end of the dinner, OH still took the initiative to send us food which we did not eat during the dinner to our room. Hot and fresh

Very impressed

Event/Sales Coordinator Haze. Execellent. Haze has been very thoughtful and flexible to us throughout from the time we enquire till the day of the event. We had changes every now and then, Haze was very patient to us. Trying her best to fulfill our needs.

All in all, both hubby and me, we are very pleased with the service provided to us the wedding couple throughout. So any couples who are still considering OH, do give them the priority becos I think they are really good.

I duno whether to chose OH for my wedding dinner.

I find the ballroom quite small compared to the rest of the hotels i seen so far.

My date will b on a Monday. Do you all think 60 glasses are sufficient for 300 guests?

What other hotels are u consider, Janel or what are ur considerations in choosing e venue?

janel: 60 glasses for 300 guests either wine or beer is definitely not enough. Moreover wine is based on bottles, beer is based on barrels. Which ballroom u looking at consider small coz the whole ballroom (1,2,3) can sit in almost to 80 tables.
 
Hi everyone, I have not received my photos from my photographer so I cant show u the photos of the hotel setup. I will post some once i got it.

Sound system is ok, we have no complaints about it and we uses all the songs from the hotel. We mute the montage and asked the hotel to play the songs concurrently. My photographer actually coordinate with the hotel on what songs to use.

I very very confused! i shortlisted 3 hotels, OH, Amara n Concorde hotel(Meriden).

I having 30 tables. The 3 hotels have its own good n bad points. i really dunno which to chose. Infact down in my heart, 3 hotels are okay to me. I dun really like it actually. The hotel i like simply fall out of our budget. haiz. These 3 hotels are within our budget.

Would appreciate if you all can give me some advice. 20 litre enuff for 300 guest? 1 wine per table is it sufficent?

high ceiling
FOC function room

Draw me away:
i will b taking ballroom 3. Is kinda squeezy and i dun like the idea of having 2 wedding side to side.
Location is far n building is abit run down

Amara-
Attract me:
Presentable & clean building
near mrt
Only 1 ballroom in the level
up to 2 nite bridal stay.

Draw me away:
Low ceilng
need $$ if ROM held on function room.
small & squeezy.
no red carpet
no free flow ( 20 litre barrel & 1 wine per confirmed table)

Concorde hotel
Attract me:
Location okay.
free flow beer & 1 wine per confirmed table
high ceiling

2 bridal nite stay
1 ballroom in the hotel

Draw me away:
building run down.
difficult to find the hotel lobby.
 
janel, i thik it's up to individual for deciding on which hotel u wanna take, first ask urself u wan high celling or u ok with low celling.. den slowly kick out options that u dislike lor..

btw, im taking ballroom 3. I think side by side wedding in OH still ok ba.. cuz they mentioned they will have the hotel people to bring the CORRECT guest to the correct wedding... and if u still worry about this, u can ask ur JM to help to bring guest in also. =)

For wine n beer i think urs on monday, people wont really drink alot... cuz next day they will be working ma..

For red carpet wise, if u hope to walk on it, den u can juz kick out amara ba.. but anyway, juz a carpet la..

For function room, my thinking if they shouldn't have charge since the banquet is with them le ma... but, we couldn't control this. Or u can choose to ROM on the stage b4 u have the dinner start. =)

OH's location thou far from MRT but i still think it's still accessible.
 
Hi Janel, I had shortlisted Amara & OH too.

In terms of reception area:
We really liked the reception area for Amara and the fact that there's only 1 ballroom - feeling of exclusivity. There's even a bubble lift to the ballroom. Though OH reception area is quite alrite too, Amara wins hands down.

In terms of march-in:
amara's is a straight & very long march-in while OH is a very slight L but long march-in. Quite equal here.

In terms of ceiling:
amara's ceiling is low but OH is very very high & very grand. OH was the choice for us as OH ballroom looks grand.

In terms of perks:
though amara is cheaper - cheaper by abt 150 per table, OH perks are alot better. We took into account cost of wine & beer and decided OH was more worth it.

Lastly, before we paid for OH, I did a test on my frds & colleagues and asked if they were invited to both Amara & OH, how much angpao would they give.. All would give more if invited to OH as they felt Amara was a cheaper hotel. Haha, so yeah, we decided on OH in the end.

hi janel: I think it's really based on ur personal priorities like which r the most important criterons to u..

If u def need a ROM room, won't this be one impt criteria? unless u r gg to do ur ROM somewhere or on another day n this will mean additional expenses n effort to coordinate another venue for ur ROM.

Both amara n concorde were never in my consideration. Fiance seemed to think Amara is a cheaper hotel but it is really cheaper la.. n most importantly, the ceiling's low. To us, the height of the ceiling's more impt than e reception area which'll last only 30 mins at most. So again, it's individual preference..

I went concorde to find a bridal shop and the lift and surrounding areas are really old n tired. I especially don't like all e other shops along the walkway.. but personally, I would tink it's a better choice than Amara cos I really dislike the low ceiling.. so it's really individual preference here..

U didn't mention anything about food. Do both amara and concorde serve food from restaurants? Cos that was another impt factor we consider when choosing venues. It's hard to guarantee the quality of food for every hotel but at least we try to ensure it comes from a restaurant. Whether e food will turn out good or bad on tat day will still need an element of luck I guess.

OH's a straight walk from the mrt, around 15mins, for us, so long it's easy to walk to the hotel and 15mins is reasonable to us, it will be ok. There are a couple other places which are not within walking distance from train stations.

Have u considered NCQ? the prices shld be quite competitive too.

There's def pros n cons for each venue, so just go with your feel if u still can't decide after weighing your priorities

all your advice really helps! at least now, i decided to strike off Amara cos i dun like the theme n low ceiling.

tml will b going down the fair at vivo for OH and then will decide again. Both OH n concorde hotel r equally good (perks & high ceiling ballroom) but concorde hotel more exclusive n spacious.

There are more attractive points for you in your previous posts...
Anyway, go with what your heart wants..
I believe you will want to be comfortable and happy on ur wedding day.
We chose OH in the end cos both of us felt good about the hotel.

Janel: I short listed both Concorde and OH too.. Ultimately we chose OH becoz we prefer the overall feel of the ballroom.. Even thou Concorde is more accessible to mrt and there's only 1 ballroom but the overall feel is not there for me..

My fiancé had his d&d at Concorde before.. He didn't really like the location of the ballroom.. It's quite hidden in a corner, makin it quite hard to locate.. The lifts are also very old and

Per table cost, Concorde is cheaper but we took in the overall cost of the banquet.. As OH offers free flow of beer and wine, per table cost is lesser than Concorde..

I was quite relunctant to have a shared reception area in the beginning.. Changed my mind later as reception part is only about 20 mins before the wedding and the main focus will be more on the ballrm and food.. Since OH has a very grand ballrm we like and the food served has very good reviews as wel.. We decided to sign with them..

As all BTBs of OH says, follow your heart.. Go and take a look at both ballrooms and see what u like ya..
 
janel: my bestie wedding few yrs back was at ex-concorde(known as meridien tat time), they just renovated their bridal suite and change of bridal themes. Personally, I also quite like the ballroom coz is squarish type and the ceiling is not as tall..the package also not that ex than OH. Building run down is not really a factor, what matters more is the easy to find ballroom for guests and their service to the couple that night..
my wedding was also in ballrm 1&2 n coincidently 3 was taken up by my cousin's manager. Guests have no problems locating ours despite whole crowd of guests combining with ballroom 3. There were many usherers directing the guests to the correct ballroom as well. 1 thing I am really impressed and beyond our expectations for OH is our questions are always answer perfectly well n no doubts, their service on my AD is 101%, attention was all on us...at 1st I relunctant to sign with OH coz they dun have black n red theme but Haze keep following up with other hotels n update us..n found a solution for us 1 week before our AD..

So really up to u of priorities...1 thing I learnt is there is nothing perfect..if u like the ballroom, settings, go for it if is within ur budget as well..

I have went down to the fair at vivo n decided not to b a bride in OH due to the number of tables.

Cos at this point of time, our estimated tables are 31. Ballroom 3 max is 32 tables. And we forsee that the tables will increase due to my bf who is changing job soon.

We are only allowed to have Ballroom 1&2 if we have 35 tables which we dun tink we would increase that much. My coordinator suggested that we signed up for Ballroom 3 1st, if towards the date n there is no one havin ballroom 1&2, we can hab it. To me, i dun wan to risk, if Ballroom 1&2 is taken at the last min n i hab 33 tables, what am i goin to do with.

My coordinate mentioned that so as to allow us to have 33 tables in Ballroom 1&2, all the perks she offered will also be forgone. =(

I won't be taking OH unless i confirmed i have at least 35 tables. Such a pity!

candy cheong: Really sorry about that. Pls post photos once you have received your AD photos =) If you doing ROM after ur 1st march-in, which means you will be doing in front of all your guests? my cousin and one fren did that too but the whole ballroom is so noisy and it may lose the significance of ROM. However, if your guests are good, I am sure they will be paying attention =) or can have the MC make some reminders. I am having ROM abt an hour before the dinner though.

pinkglove: me now waiting for my keys collection and starting my reno soon. you still have abt a year before your AD. a lot of time to plan =)

Oh, must be a super busy time for u then, to prepare for ur wedding and reno at the same time.. Is yours a major reno? Yup, i can still slowly plan.. hehe..
