I had my food tasting last evening. The food was quite good, but the waiter and waitress serving us not so good. We have to keep asking them to fill up our teas and water.

I will bring it up to my coordinator when I meet her next week about this.

One thing i dun like abt OH is they keep changing the package price. It become somehow unfair for those customers who sign up like a month eariler? N the best thing is..they will keep saying the package is already at it BEST and will not have it any better.

Just booked our banquet with OH 2 weekends back. Reason for choosing OH over 2 others that we had shortlisted - The food. I personally find that the food is better than Manderin and even Shangri-La . And really liked the pillarless ballroom when I attended a banquet there.

Read about the unpleasant incident that a forummer experienced, and got panic over the service ? Maybe one need to understand this industry with regards to the staffing at banquet.

For all banquets at hotels, normally the event is staffed by part timers, usually students , and recently we are seeing alot of pinoy and PRCs. The more experienced or senior ones will be team leads. Even for $1,600 per table at Shang, the same apply. And service is not necessary better over at Shang too, had empty glass a couple of times within 1 banquet too..

The fight among staff during event is unacceptable, is not unique to OH, it had happened in other hotels too, and will still happen in future in all hotels lol... how I know so much ? Because during my JC days, was working in a 5 star hotel too... lol

Was tracking the pricing and package of OH and 2 other hotels over a period of 1 yr, and reviewed a couple of others too, and came to this conclusion that, prices for 2011 and 2012 are increased generally across all hotels, in view of the " perceived " improved economic condition . Banquets held in 2010 were relatively " cheap ". Prices will only come down, for late 2012 and 2013 banquets only if 2012 Q1 really slip into a global meltdown once again.

We just had our wedding dinner last Sat (1 Oct) @ Orchard Hotel Ballroom 1&2 and I must really give them a Thumbs up for their service and help rendered on the day.

I was a panicky bride but luckily everything was closely coordinated between my groom and the hotel on the day. Food was good, service was good. All in all, my guests had a great time and enjoyed our wedding.

Like the rest of you, I was worried about the service of the wait staff. What's worse was when I went for my company's D&D earlier this year, the service was really bad. Glasses were not refilled, I had to ask thrice before I got the glass of water that I requested. Voiced out all my unhappiness to Angie and everything was very very smooth for my big day.

There were some changes of hand from Haze to Lindsay and finally to Angie. I did voice our my worries to her about this and she reassured me that she is not a new staff of OH. After my wedding, I believe that she is really very experienced.

Thus, I believe with good communication between hotel and yourselves prior to the wedding, everything will turn out okay. Enjoy your once-in-a-lifetime process!

I'm curious which credit card was used to make the deposit for confirming the Banquet ? At the current credit card promotioins, Manhanttan Card is the best card for banquet.

For most CC, Banquet spending does not qualify for their rewards program. Manhanttan, for spending above S$3k in a month's statement ( can be consolidated S$3k ) 5% cash back cap at $200 cashback per spending quarter ( different from calendar quarter ) .

Maximum cash back for banquet: make S$3K deposit x 2 Manhanttan card. And make progressive payment of S$4k over the spending quarters, X 2 cards ( provided there is cash ) , such that, the balance payment on banquet day itself is $8k or less.

End up will get cashback $1.5k for a 30K banquet , 2K for a 40K banquet etc. And pay off the CC bills, with a SCB Xtra savers Account Nets card. 0.5% cashback for all Nets transcation capped at $50 cashback per mth, and the debit card earns 2 - 5% cashback , dependent on account balance of 6k -50K , capped at $250 cashback per mth.

Not working for SCB, just sharing a method to earn maximum cashback for banquet and other big ticket items purchase for our wedding.

Amy, thank you for the review. Glad to hear that you have an enjoyable and unforgettable night. Stonefish, the calculation part is really complicated. Will check out with my bf.

bingqiling , basically, just make progress payments for your banquet over the spending quarters ,( instead of deposit + balance of payment on banquet day ) and use the xtrasaver accounts nets ATM card to pay the Credit card bills at AXN for the extra cashback.

Other items for renovations, furnitures etc, use other Manhanttan Cards from siblings or parents or use the 2 - 5 % feature of this xtrasaver account lor..

hey honey pork. the video u see from unique colors on orchard hotel, it's my wedding. :p

usually they will give connecting room, if its available. and usually, its available. other than the connecting room, i was given an extra helpers room as well, but till 8pm only and was extended to 10pm on the AD.

that room is good if lets say yr bridal suite is packed with sisters, mothers all doing make up. can spread the crowd.

i signed with OH with haze and its partly cos of her, then they got shuffled and lindsay took over, and then something happened and was reassigned to angie and then i told her to tell the management that i wanna end with angie, cannot be keep changing coordinator then how could they possibly follw up.

had a few conversations with angie before finally meeting her and ended my wedding with her. no worries abt angie, she will try her best to accomodate your requests, and she's good. i sincerely thank her after my wedding ended. it works both ways la, try to tell her about your concerns and work things out.

oh, quite a number of my guests commented abt the food that its special and nice. glad to hear that.

Hi,

When you all mentioned about the connecting suite, is it an extra room or is it just one bridal suite but with the design of connecting suite? Thought I can ask for it when I meet Angie.

My AD in Jan 2012, getting real excited!

As for the credit card, I dont quite understand. If I used other credit cards, would there be any benefits? Anyone can advise which credit card's the best for banquet, or spending at department stores when buying new household items?

bingqiling : My planner from OH told me they welcome progress payment , lol.

SCB xtrasaver ( current ) account's bank card double as debit and nets card. THis is the only NETS card at this moment that offers 0.5% cash rebate for all nets transcation. Thus, best action now is to pay off all other credit card bills using this net card, rather than cheque

Bingliqing & Tan Aimei,

from my understanding, most, is not all Credit cards exclude spending on Banquet for all their rewards program. Need to call up your CC to confirm. Citibank confirm banquet spending does not qualify for any rewards program. Except for this Manhantan Card, at least for now. CC promotions change every now and then.

Most credit card points rewards program is about 0.3% of the spending amount. Most cash rebates of the various CC of 3 or 5% , have to spend at selected merchants only. Only this Manhanttan card gives 5% rebate ( on spending above 3K in a mth's bill ) on ANYTHING.

So for the maximum cash rebate for wedding couples:

Get 2 Manhanttan cards, plan your Banquet Deposit , progress payments and balance payments ( of at least 3K to qualify for the 5%, over the different billing cycle. Bearing in mind that max cash rebate is $200 per billing quarter. And use the xtrasaver account nets card to pay off the bills for the 0.5% cash rebate.

And for other wedding expenses like furniture, buying of fittings for renovations like kitchen sink, lights, etc , payment for bridal package, etc, use the xtrasaver Debit card for 2% cash rebate ( capped at $300 cash rebate per mth ) . Do take note of the rebate percentage structure , eg 2% rebate , if there is a daily minimum balance of at least $6k.

I'm not working for any banks or credit card companies. Google for the details for the Manhanttan Card and xtrasaver account.

Hi there, I just went down to view the OH ballroom——I really like the hotel ambience, high ceiling and pillar-less ballroom (the small one for 30 tables), and that the food comes from the famous Hua Ting restaurant. However, the coordinator mentioned that someone else has booked the bigger ballroom on the same day and I am just worried that since we are sharing the reception space, it will all be a big mess. Not to mention, we will have to share the toilets and 200+ parking lots. Coordinator has mentioned that guest can park at the malls around the area but that's quite inconvenient.

Any OH brides have experienced this before? Is it a big mess or did everything went smoothly?

I am also looking at Riverview hotel, where we will have the whole floor to ourselves, plus pre-function cocktail reception, which OH doesn't have. Am still going to look around some more even though I am quite keen on OH.

Shumin Which date are you looking at ? Alternatively you can consider changing date or changing to lunch. What package are you looking at ? Pre- Function cocktail reception is included for my wedding lunch.

For its price range, OH packages are the best value for money, not forgetting the excellent food from Hua Ting. Compared with slightly more expensive package from GrandPark City Hall and Tung Lok at Orchard Parade hotel, which the fish they serve is not Garoupa. OH 3 choices of fish are all Garoupa. That alone , on top of other reasons make us confirm with OH.

i had mine in OH1 & 2 with another held in OH3. I would say it be slight mess esp some of my guests mistaken ours in OH3 since their recepttion is directly in front of the escalator where most of the guest coming up from.
Its impt to inform your guest that there will be another wedding and told them to check with the staff which they will deploy next to escalator.
My comment of the food is average. Like most of you, we expected much frm Hua Ting, esp after the impressive food tasting. But for mine actual day, the food are slightly cold and many thumbs down on the shark fins (too starchy).
However their service was good and the operation mgr on my banquet was very helpful and responsive to our request. Thumb up for that!

Usana and Shumin,

actually, that is the main concern I have. As I signed for the OH3 and on the same day itself, there is another couple on OH1 and 2. So I am afraid that my guests will get lost.

I checked with Anqie, she said they will arrange usher to direct guests.

i think they revise their price because those were the left over dates ( more unpopular dates) as those popular ones would have been taken up.

OH has an outdoor grass patch at the upper floors. You have to check with your co-ordinator is that is available for solemnization or not. I have seen photos on the net.

But best if you have a function room standby for wet weather program.
