hi,we just had our wedding at MC hotel. It was a wonderful experience to hold our wedding at the Grand Ballroom, with its great reception floor. But we thought the whole process could have been much less hectic for the wedding couple if the
hotel coordinators can communicate well with the banquet team/managers.
Our advice to couples :
Make sure you check that all your requests made
thru the coordinators are taken care of.
We were very shocked when the different wedding favours requested were not communicated to banquet manager. Luckily, one of our friends highlighted this to us and we had to tell the manager to change them! They also gave us the wrong napkin colour for the guest tables too.

Hi Wendy & eternity tan,

I'm considering MC as a hotel too and ready to meet them for the comfirmation of the package for next year. As I missed out the wedding show this year, can you advise what perks did both of you receive ?

ALso who is your coordinator?

Many thanks

Hi Xiaopei

My coordinator is Serene, so far the experience with her is good and her response to our emails are prompt. Her email address is [email protected]

We managed to have free one table, LCD Projector and helpers room etc. Maybe you can check with her what are the things that MC is able to offer.

This thread has been very quiet

Hope MC brides will have more to share in future.

Hi eternity tan,

I have also signed up with MC. Your perks seem so much better. Can I find out how many tables you have?

For my perks, we are given an upgraded bridal suite, 5% more invitation cards and change of one dish from the menu.

We tried to get the Projector but our coordinator said it's not available, even if we want to rent it (???). As for the helpers' day room, if we want it, we can get it at a discounted rate but its not for free.

Hi all,

Just my 2 cents' worth.I didn't have a good experience with Swissotel Merchant Court for my ROM. It was a terribly bad experience which I will remember for life. It really spoil my day.

The coordinator I liaised with is insensitive and poor at organising and planning. It's not nice for me to speak bad about this hotel here. Anyone who wish to know what happen can PM me directly. The food and the place is excellent and ideal, however the customer service is terrible. Heard from some of my friends who had their wedding there and they also have bad comments about their customer service. I'm not trying to say anything but ladies, pls consider and assess their customer service before signing any agreement with them. As for me, I will not consider to sign up their wedding package anymore as I didn't want to spoil my precious and wonderful wedding in their hands.

Hi Xiao Pei

Sorry to reply so late. Have not been to this thread for a long time.

Mine was signed up at the wedding show in March, so the perks are slightly different. Mine includes free flow beer, free projector, free use of the poolside gazebo for solemnisation, and 2 nights Phuket stay...But think eternity Tan perks are not bad too. So have you sign up? When is your AD?

My coordinator is Cathy, but have not liase with her before as she is new. But she replies to my emails quite promptly also. [email protected]

Hi Tan

When is your AD?

Hi Wendy,Eternity_Tan
Many thanks for your information!

It seems that while some has splendid experience and some bad memories...

Guess really got to have a good coordinator!

For myself as my AD is next year Septe, got to make decisions now!

Looking at abt 45-50 tables.
Not sure if anyone try out the following hotels which are also in my list of selections:
1) Grand Hyatt (Grand Ballroom)
2) Meritus Mandarin; GrandRoom Min 55 Tables
sad.gif

3) Merchant Court

Really hope someone can share their experience cos I'm quite confused and got to make decisions soon!

HI Xiaopei

My situation was exactly like yours when I was choosing my venue.

Grand Hyatt- the grandballroom has pillars and it looks old.

Meritus Mandarin- likewise the require min tables which is more than my expected guest list.

Merchant Court- wonderful ballroom and nice reception area which is enclosed for the couple's function. With perks like wat Wendy had, thus I decided to pick this.

I also considered other hotels like:-

Marriot- ballroom looks small best suited for 40 tables coz certain corners of the ballroom is blocked from the screen

Hilton- for 50 tables, the march in is very short

Grand Corporthne Waterfront- Best Ballroom in town. Simply very grand! But inconvenient for my guests.

Pan Pacific- wonderful ballroom 2 but due to the road wks at marina area, I was discouraged to host my dinner there at the meantime. Many ppl experienced traffic jam.

Marina Mandarin- newly renovated. same problem as Pan Pac.

Basically the above ballrooms are those tt host 45-50 tables. Hope tt helps!

Cheers

HI Xiao Pei

My AD is in Sept 07 too!

I was in a similar dilemma as you too. Was considering
1) Orchard Hotel - big and spacious ballroom. But think min is 50 tables. Slightly more ex than MC.

2) Meritius Mandarin - I like their hotel but too many ballrooms. Didn't like the idea to have the guests to walk around to search for the correct ballroom.

3) Merchant Court - 1 ballroom only so more exclusivity. Ballroom big and spacious. And of course more value for $$. =)

Woah :D
All of you gave very good information *phew*
Now my decision suddenly seems clearer!

My ROM is already over last month. I held it at Laborder Park.

My AD is next year 28th Sept. . . a friday!

I tink since Merchant Court has abit of 'service' issue... we should write a petition over to ensure future occurances will be minimise :p

Actually , you can wait for their wedding shows if they have. Usually, they offer more perks during the shows. You can ask for free flow beer, LCD projector FOC, free room for helpers, Waiver of corkage Charge on wines and liquor if there is any etc.

this thread seems pretty empty... are there any other bride's experience with merchant court?

actually tht only thing i didn't like was the construction outside merchant court. now it kindof hides the hotel away... i sure hope it will be completed before my wedding in september 07.

Hi all,
congratulations to all!
I am considering Solemnization package between Amara, Merchant Court & Copthorne Waterfront.
Got a shock when I read about the service nightmare... Have anyone deal with Louis from MC before?

Hi Chovin,

I dealt with Priscilia from MC. I had a bad experience with her. I believe this Louis is a new guy in MC. Have not heard of him before.

Dear MC Brides,

I am having my AD in Mar 07. Have anyone encountered couples who drove a Harley Davidson in the ballrom as 1st March? I am exploring, but not sure if the hotel allows?

Or any brillant(unique) ideas for 1st march?

Hi Louisa and Wayne (louisawee)

are you a harley biker?
My bf rides bike as well, but not harley davidson.
We are considering MC as well. If you are able to ride into MC ballroom for the 1st March, do let me know.
That's will be a wonderful thing.

i deal with Louis in MC too. He's quite blur i must say. He gave me quite a rude shock once. But otherwise on a whole i think i'm still happy i signed up with MC.

haha Elmo80,

He's not, but we are just exploring.
Anyway I've check with MC, the noise level for Harley is too unbareable the guests at level 2 might be affected... sigh... back to square one again

Hi Ling

Mine is 8th July. Have u booked urs? Which date u looking at? Guess weekdays will still be available and more choices

July is pretty popular coz of 070707 & 080707 (is the best date based on traditional belief). Wats more after July is the lunar 7th mth so everyone rushing b4 tt. ALternatively will be after 7th mth.

Hi Cutie,

I am looking at 14 July.

However, it has been confirmed by another couple.
I like their ballroom very much and its comes to me as a bit sad that my AD has been taken...

Yup Merchant Court ballroom is nice but I'm worried abt the service level after reading so much negative comments abt them.

If you really wanna have merchant ct as ur banquet venue, can consider hosting ur banquet dinner on a separate day from ur AD. Now quite many couples do that. Alternatively, check with them whether can u have a lunch banquet on ur AD instead.
happy.gif

Actually for July 07 booking, many couples already booked beginning of this year. Not surprising to noe that the weekends are all taken up.

Hi Cutie,

thanks for your suggestion. I will discuss with hubby 1st. Actually, we intend to hold our ROM just before the banquet starts...now dunno how.

I think for the negative comments, we should take it positively. Can always feedback to them so they will improve for your AD.

dun worry too much and be a happy bride!

my coordinator is Louis too.. guess he is really normal.. not really very good.. but nothing really bad.. easy to negotiate and give a lot of surprise at the end..
asked him to have the free projector, he said no, but the actual day there is a projector and laptop...
did not ask for upgrade the bridal room, he upgraded for us on the actual day..

but want to compliment the service of the banquet manager, (is something like Wee Hing or something is WH, cos in chinese name a bit diff to remember)
he is very professional and very helpful.....
gald to have him in that day.....
Both my husband and I think that the price is really good (less than 700 per table in weekday, no red wine) and the serive is not bad too....
