Marina Mandarin Singapore

How many invitation cards did you request from MM? I will be having 35 tables, I don't know if I can request 350 cards first because I may increase the number of tables.

Have anyone here, seen or been to the function room in Marina mandarin? Im not refering to Vanda Ballroom or the Marina Mandarin Ballroom, but a function room, i like to held my ROM solemnization there.

Hi everybody,

I've won a 2pc string Wedding Band - 3sets of 45min on a wedding show worth SGD$750.

the lucky draw condition is that it has to be held at Marina Mandarin.

Interested party, do quote me a price.

Hi Everyone,

I am going to have my food tasting soon. Anyone can recommand what dishes to avoid eating and whats the must try dishes.

Thanks alot in advance.

Hi Baobao,

We are also going for our food tasting soon. Mine is early next month. When's yours?

MM just email the menu to me. We also haven't decide on the dishes. Which one are you considering?

Hi Shir

Ours is also early next mth.

We just returned back from a retreat so have not gone through the menu that MM emailed you. What abt you? What dishes u trying?

Hi Baobao,

Sorry, I missed out on this thread. We hasn't decide on the menu yet. Probably will stick to the original one.

Hi Evelyn & Iris,

Thanks for the sharing. Is the herbal chicken very awful? My hb's a big fan of herbal stuff, I don't know if I can get him to drop that herbal chick off the menu.

Which dish do you suggest to replace the herbal chick? We tried the chef special roasted chick during the bridal show. Taste ok but quite normal kind.

What did you gals pick for the noodle and dessert?

And any other dishes/ things to take note of during the food tasting?

Hi Shir
No prob, i also agree that the chef special roasted chicken is normal. We also tried during the bridal show.I was also thinking of the herbal chicken.but seem like not a gd choice

For dessert think will get their hot favourate manago sago with ice cream. Noodles also headache.haha

Anymore comments from other brides?

mmm...a bit salty for us..and, like what my dad says - go to a 5 star hotel to eat herbal chicken???

as for dessert, we chose yam paste! thumbs up!

Good Morning Baobao,

Have you decided on your food tasting menu? We went through the list last night and email Wendy our selection. Yea~ another item off the checklist.

For the chicken, Hb decided to go back to the chef special roasted chick after reading the comments about the herbal chick. We didn't went for the other option "boneless chick with plum sauce" cause it sounds like those fried chicken cutlet with lemon sauce selling at chicken rice stalls to us.

Which style did you choose for the fish? We don't know the difference between 'teochew style' and soya sauce. I thought teochew style is to steam the fish with the light soya sauce, then what is the other soya sauce style? Anyway, we picked the teochew style. Hee..

For the noodle, we change the lotus rice to the hokkieh meesua cause we thought its quite unique, something different from the usual ee-fu noodle. Hee.. and also im a hokkieh bride. Actually we are also curious about the option 'double happiness noodle', any idea whats that?

Hi Evelyn,

Thanks for sharing. We decided to skip the herbal chicken after reading your comments esp. your dad's feeling about the herbal chick. Hee..

We decide on the yam paste for our dessert also. Hope its nice cause we only got to try the mango sago with icecream at the bridal show the other time.

I NEVER regret choosing MM for my wedding!

Just finished my wedding on 25th lunch, and i can say its the most smooth wedding that i ever wanted in life. The coordinator of MM was always so attentive to every details. Fiona who always follow up with me with phone calls and taking notes of all minor details i wanted. Eugene who steadily run the whole show for me althought i am much "troublesome" because i have specific march in tune, wedding cake to be serve, and dance floor... but he is so professional and even calm me when i am nervous.

And alot of guests commented that the food was really good. Prawn were fresh, sea cumcumber was huge portion. And also the best is the mango sago with ice-cream which everyone loved

Of course, the nice bridal suite and good room service. What more can i ask for

Hi Shir

I have settles my dishes too

Chicken we took the plum sauce one cos we tried the chef special roasted chicken during wedding shows.so we try something different.

Think my fish and noodles is the same as you.hehe.we can compare after our food tasting.

Hi All,

We would like to thank MM for the wonderful wedding dinner on 25 Oct 09. Special thanks to our co-ordinator, Sen and banquet managers, Kelvin and Mazlan. They are very attentive and professional. The food was nice and our programme went smoothly. MM is definitely a great choice.

Hi Mocca

Would you be able to share what dishes u selected?I had my food tasting yesterday and the experience was horrible.
The presentation was lousy, service was super slow and the food was not up to standard. =(

Hihi Baobao,

Gosh! What happened on your FT? Please share your comments about the dishes and any particular thing to take note.

My FT is next week. *worried now after reading your comments*

Hi baobao,

I have choosen the following:
1. Lobster Cold Dish Combination
2. Braised Shark’s Fin Soup with Seafood
3. Chef’s Special Crispy Roast Chicken
4. Steamed Live Garoupa Teochew Style
5. Pan-fried Prawns in Oriental Sauce
6. Braised Abalone with Seasonal Vegetables
7. Smoked Tea Duck with Mini Pancake
8. Fried Hokkien Mee-Sua with Assorted Meat
9. Mango Sago With Ice Cream

I onli get to eat S/No. 1,2 and 9 on my AD as need to change. However, I tried all of them during food tasting and most are good (presentation & serving are nice and enough). I personally think that S/No. 1-2 & 7-9 are super good. The only comment my guests have during AD is that the fish is a bit overcooked.

Hi Mocca

My menu is similiar to yours except for the chicken i chose the one with plum sauce and prawns i choose the garlic sauce. S/N 1,3,4,7 and 8 didnt turn out good. Esp S/N1,lobster not fresh.Over all presentation was not nice and Chicken i will be changing to Chef’s Special Crispy Roast Chicken.Fish was overcook and have muddy taste. Concluded that the cook cant cook it well in Teochew style.Duck meat was too hard and mee sua was abit dry.
I do not know what to do now =(

Dun worry so much keppating, maybe it depends on the chef-in-charge tat day.

Do post any feedback after ur FT. I'm considerin signin up with MM.

ladies! we just had our wedding dinner last sun (1 nov).

Thumbs up to Wendy and Mr How. they were very attentive to us and keep telling us to leave everything to them. things won't have went smoothly without them. thanks!!!

food- superb! we had great comments about our food, which was really surprising. thats cuz our FT was cannot-make-it. they took note of all our comments and requests. even my dad also say that it's nice!

Hi Kappating,

I just noticed that your FT is yesterday. Mine too!

We were quite disappointed with suckling pig. Its very tough, hard and cant really bite into it. How's the suckling pig for your plate? The parents on both sides are quite unhappy, infact the whole table is upset about it. The suckling pig is sort-of the highlight of the dish and yet so yucky.

Halfway eating the 1st dish, my inlaws even asked us if we can changed the cold dish or what are the options for cold dish. Like what you know, there is no option for cold dish, so we told them this. When the manager came over later, we told him about it. He suggest that we can consider replacing it with lobster salad. But...but we went for this menu/combination mainly due to the suckling pig slices in the first place.

Almost all the dishes are really below the usual standards, e.g. our sharkfin is quite dry, not much soup with alot of ingredients. After eating 2-3 spoons, my bowl is full of the sharkfin, meat slices, etc but no more soup. The only good thing is.. alot of ingredients, but NO SOUP.

The roasted chicken is ok, but my parents attended another wedding dinner at MM last month and the roasted chicken comes with Prawn crackers. So they are actually looking forward to the prawn cracker, but its not served. According to the server, they don't provide unless requested by the couple, then they will provide on AD.

The Oriental Prawns... I remember during the wedding show, the shells are sliced/open in the middle at the back to ease the taking out. But the prawns yesterday are not sliced/open in the back. Everyone got to peel it and its a mess.

Vegetable with abalone, my inlaws said the vegetable are overcooked. And everyone thinks that the vegetable are too salty. The only saving grace was the abalone is quite soft and not tough.

Smoked duck with pancakes: The server portioned for us and sort-of wrapped 1 each. Taste ok to me, but it wasn't served with sliced cucumber and green onions. Everyone thought that it should be served with those, even my parents who attended the dinner last month at MM had the sliced cucumber and green onions.

Fish in Teochew style: We are not fan of fishes. The fish tasted ok but the mushroom that come with it is very very salty.

Fried Meesua: Er.. look abit like fried beehoon, but at least it's something different from the usual lotus rice/yee-fu noodles.

Desserts.. we requested for Yam Paste, but the chef made both the Yam paste & mango sago with ice cream for us to try. The Yam Paste is also alittle disappointing to me, the sauce (the white coconut milk) is not enough. The whole thing is quite dry even after we stirred the sauce into the paste. We have quite afew yam paste lovers at the table, but all of them like the mango sago instead as the yam paste is quite disappointing.

Mango sago with ice cream is ok, except that the ice cream tends to melt quite fast and the presentation is not that nice. Look like a bowl with milky stuff in the middle. Tastewise is better than the yam paste.

At the end of it, I felt quite embarassing as everyone was expecting to come for a great meal and yet almost all the dishes served were quite bad. It's up to a point, by the 3rd dish, everyone was saying, they hope the next one won't be as bad as the previous ones, will just normal standard will do. I think I'll be greatly embarassed if they served these during the dinner on AD.

How's the food tasting at your side?

shir...ur FT was aly better than mine le..

mine ended up with 1 full page of comments, apart from the feedback form. but guess what? all the comments were taken into account on actual day.

for yam paste, u can request them to separate the coconut milk from the paste. then u can add whichever amount u want to ur bowl. if not enough, just ask from waiter..

prawn - u have to tell them that u want them to cut it from the back. it was part of our comments too. and it was cut from the back on my AD.

Hey Shir, I didn't know that our FT is on the same day! I think your FT shld be at the other side of the room bcos mine was at Libra Room.

I do agree that the suckling pig is quite hard. But overall we were quite satisfield with the food and service.

My future MIL did make alot of comments about the food. But my parents are fine with the food.

Here is our FT menu:
1) Suckling Pig Combination
(Suckling Pig Slices, Jellyfish with Sesame Seed, Chicken Roll, Prawn Salad & Pan-Fried Abalone Clam with Garlic)
2) Imperial Seafood Soup
(Sea Cucumber, Fresh Scallop, Dried Scallop, Fish Maw & Crabmeat)
3) Boneless Chicken with Plum Sauce
4) Steamed Live Sea Bass with Soya Sauce
5) Pan-Fried Prawns in Butter & Garlic Sauce
6) Lingzhi & Black Mushroom with Seasonal Vegetables
7) Steamed Lotus Leaf Rice with Assorted Meat
8) Yam paste

We request not to have shark fin's soup because we did not want to kill the sharks. Haha! That's we have opt for that.

My brother do admit that the suckling pig is abit hard.

But overall we did put some comments in the feedback form.

Hi Evelyn,

Glad to hear that the food on your actual is much better than the food tasting. But we're still worried. Did you take the suckling pig slices for your cold dish combination? Any feedbacks from the guest about the suckling pig on that day?

Hi Kappating,

We are @ the Aquarius room that day. Like you, my parents are the one who have more confident with the food to be served on actual day as they attended a dinner there just weeks ago.

Will you be changing the suckling pig?

I just realised that out of that 8/9 dishes, our common dishes are only the suckling pig combination and yam paste. Ummm.. maybe the other dishes are better.

By the way, you took out the teaduck pancake?

shir, our suckling pig dish is one by itself. there's a top up made by us..i had mixed feedback abt the pig..but majority say not bad

Hi Shir,

Nope, we won't be changing the suckling pig because we feel that it is just a small portion for the cold dish.

Our menu does not come with the teaduck pancake.

Hihi,

Just to share, we changed our combination cold dish to lobster salad instead. And inside the combination, we also change the prawn salad to octopus in white sauce and chicken roll to seafood roll to match the whole combination. Hope they taste good. Will share the reviews after my wedding.

I just had my wedding dinner at Vanda on 6 Dec 09.
Overall, the experience with the hotel and our coordinator Wendy Lou was great. Had intended to post a good review here thereafter if not for a major disappointment which happened during the dinner.

We had our solemnization immediately after our 1st March in. During the short period of time when the table was cleared from the stage to start the dinner, our mickey and minnie wedding soft toy was stolen. It was used to decorate the solemnization table.

The whole incident occured in a span of 2-3 minutes, as our friend who was assigned to keep the stuff after the hotel staff moved the things, informed us just after we sat down at the VIP table.

The banquet manager claimed that they did not see the soft toys at all when they moved the table, implying that it may not even be at the table in the 1st place. After I told him that I was extremely sure it was on the table as I was staring at it throughout the solemnization (as I was v nervous), he mentioned that maybe the children sitting near the stage may have taken it!!

The whole theft happpened in such a short time that it must have been planned, and I was extremely disgusted that he tried to imply that my guests have stolen it! It would have been very obvious if someone other than the staff have walked up on the stage, and furthermore, the table with one young child was sitted in the extreme corner not near the stage.

We called our coordinator the next day to inform her, but the outcome was the same.

The staff claimed that they did not see it, and they couldn't find it. So it is like there is nothing they could do. We just have to accept that it is gone.

We are extremely disappointed - we had bought the soft toy specially from Tokyo disneyland - it followed us during our photoshoot, and then during our wedding, it was a part of our wedding prep and wedding! And now, we just have to accept that it is gone with no reasonable explanation.

To all the couples having their wedding soon, please be extremely careful with your belongings as there are dishonest hands at the dinner. Make sure a friend is there to watch the staff very carefully, and if possible, take all the valuables before they clear anything. How we wished we had taken mickey and minnie with us down the stage instead of trusting the banquet staff!

Now we can only hope that whoever who stole it will just return it to us, but I doubt we will see it again..

Another minor comment to take note too - our wedding favours reached only at 7.35pm. We had requested all our guests to reach early before 8pm. They did, just to be locked out of the ballroom, and the recep area was very croweded.
MM has to do better next time!!!!

Halo everybody, I'll be holding my wedding banquet at the Vanda Ballroom in Sep 2010. Hope to learn more about your experiences with MM here. =D

My coordinator is Fiona. She is approachable and accomodating. We signed up with her in July after visiting 5 to 6 other venues. My partner and I like the overall ambience of the hotel and the experience with Fiona so far. =)

Mistletoee: I could empathize with your feeling on the lost of your Micky & Minnie. I have a pair of wedding bears too. Now I am hesitating if I should place them beside my ang bao box during the banquet.

Hi wanted to ask for those of you who have held weekend dinner at 5 star hotel eg MM......any of u made a lot of loss? As in cuz nowadays pple usually give $88-$100 only....

am really in a dilenma now to decide bet a 4 star (other hotel like NQC/ AMara )and a 5 star MM

Chilli-In-Ketchup:

I am sure the toys would be safe at the reception table with your receptionists looking after it.

Just finish my friend's wedding with 40 tables at Grand Copthorne and just before the march in, everything was packed and brought up to the bridal suite safely.

Give your helpers a priority list to check for? *wink*

Halo Blur btb!

Haha.. I shall chain them to the ang bao box coz that is the mosy heavily guarded item! (",)

Drawing up a checklist will be useful since there are so many things to remember and lookout for!

I did that during my solemnisation to make sure that everything is taken care of. =D

Hi everyone, I am back.
A big thanks to Marina Mandarin. Our wedding programme runs smoothly and all our guests have enjoyed themselves very much.

A big thanks to Fiona (our coordinator) and Captain How (banquet manager).

Our guests danced happily and we have enjoyed ourselves very much too.

Hihi everyone,

I am back too. We too enjoyed our wedding dinner and hotel stay with Marina Mandarin. Everything was great. We received all good comments for the food from our guests. Everyone enjoyed the dinner.

We are blessed with a great banquet manager too. He fully took charge of the whole event and guided us along the way. Everything was perfect. We started the dinner around 815pm and everything ended around 1015pm. Superb timing for a Sun dinner. We were initially worried about the dinner ending late and guests might start to leave on their own. But everyone stayed throughout and shaked our hands during send-off.

The banquet manager was super experienced, we didnt have to follow our time-line at all. When we told him that I have 3 gowns to change, he immediately knew and prepared us for the gown changing.

The march-in was also great. We had a lady MM staff at the door who tries to calm us down before we walked in. She even arranged a glass of water for me to have a sip (with straw) to calm me down as I was super nervous. She helped me to check my gown train and lined them nicely. The banquet manager was also there with us to help check the happenings inside. And during the march-in, MM will provide flower petals for tables along the aisle, for the guests will throw them on us. We got some naughty guests who specifically stood infront of us and put the petals on our heads. Luckily, just before we walked up the stage, the MM staff (the lady at the door) will help us check and remove those petals that are still on us (stuck on the hair, gown, chest, shoulder etc) and ensure that we look handsome and pretty before walking on the stage to cut cake. Very attentive service!

The banquet manager and the lady also helped us with the pushing of the chairs each time we need to sit down. The can-can of my wedding gown is quite big, I cant hardly feel the chair. So glad that both of them are very attentive to details. They also helped me up and down the stages by holding me as my heels were quite high and my gowns covered everything on the ground. I felt so secure and safe with hb holding me on 1 side and the staff on the other side. Hee.. really pampered like a princess.

The 1st dish presentation was good also. Many of our guests told us that the dance was very unique. They had never saw any dish presentation in such a manner and til now, I still got people coming to us about it. Both of us were also amused by the dance that night. Didn't expect that dance to be so interesting. Hee..

We also noticed that each time we returned from gown changing, the banquet manager will surely be outside the ballroom waiting for us already. And after our 2nd gown changing, our PG asked us to take a pic before the 2nd march-in outside the ballroom. The banquet manager was so kind that he turned on the bubbles blowing machine for us to take the pics with bubbles.

When we came down in my 3rd gown outfit, the banquet manager gave us a good news. That is, the chef decided to serve 2 types of desserts for the 2 vip tables. I was so delighted to hear that because I made special request to serve yam paste for only the bridal table and mango sago for the remaining tables as I was torn between deciding which desserts as both tasted nice. Thumbs up for the chef too.

And because the banquet manager was so good with his time management, we managed to eat the dishes when we returned in the 3rd outfit. The manager also told us to go slow with the eating as he had made specific instruction to serve vip desserts first so that we have ample time to slowly finish the food.

Oops.. I forgot to mention, our dinner was at the Vanda ballroom. The ambience was great! We had live piano playing and singing at the recept area throughout the night. And I could look at the crowd outside the ballroom from the hotel room before proceeding to go down for the recept. Though the ceiling for the ballroom was low, the 'ceiling' at the reception was soooo 'high'. So it kinda of gives the cosy effect each time we entered the ballroom. We loved the ballroom so much.

Last but not least, I think the room service (snacks before the dinner and supper after the dinner) is really very thoughtful of Marina Mandarin. The breakfast buffet in the morning on both days were also great.

Both of us are very happy and glad that we chosen Marina Mandarin for our wedding. We felt so important and special that night. Will never forget our wedding night with Marina Mandarin. And definitely won't hestitate to recommend Marina Mandarin to my friends and relatives for their wedding dinner.

PS. Our banquet manager was Kelvin (umm.. didnt really get his name but hb got his card) and the lady at the door was Mei Qin. Very nice and friendly lady.

Oh ya! I forgot to mention that our dinner was at the Grand Ballroom. Initially we feel that the ceiling is quite low, but on actual day, the ambience is great and the lightnings are nice. We had 53 tables and we were glad that the whole area does not look cramp.

My hubby & I had no regret choosing MM.

We had liveband and our guests enjoyed themselves very much. My hubby & I also joined in the dance together with our parents & friends.

We did not request the waiters & waitress to dance before serving the first dish. Because we had provide our own music CD for the food serving part. We played the music by Pitbull "I know you want me". Because we know that the guests are waiting for the food at that time. Heehee!
