yea lor from min. to max.... totally unexpected haha~

if you only have 15 tables, having 1 barrel of 30L beer is still not so bad... got 90+ glasses.

maybe can check when is their next wedding show? probably have some perks during wedding show? i feel that after the hotel has renovated, everything becomes more expensive....

Hi

My name is Jarls from Singapore and I am an undergraduate at a Hospitality Management school in Switzerland. For my undergraduate dissertation, I am looking at the negotiation behaviour of prospective wedding couples looking to hold their wedding banquet at 5-star hotels in Singapore.

Your response is kindly appreciated and will aid in the completion of my paper. Please, I need another 20 responses by this Friday.

This survey will take up 15-20 minutes of your time.

Hi all

My wedding was just over on 10 Oct & just came bk from my honeymoon... what I can say is, I've the most fab event in my whole life. My coordinator is Veralyn & Banquet Manager is Mohd Kassim. They are the best. No doubt that your special day will be in their safe hands. Many commented that Kassim has the best service during the dinner... he kept on passing water to us so that we dun feel nervious & thirsty & make sure the whole wedding night run smoothly.

Yes, Mandarin Orchard (Mandarin Court has the most special layout) is the great choice & we have no regrets choosing at all.

Shan't post anymore as wedding is over & me & hubby want to spend more time together before we decide to add a new member to our own family. =)

Gals, dun worry, u be in gd hands if u have chosen this hotel.

Hi all!! My wife and I are also looking to source for wedding banquet venues. We had our ROM this year and will hold our banquet in early 2012. My wife loves staircases so MC is definitely in our list! I feel so excited after reading all the happy reviews! How's the food there and what about the bridal suite? Nice or not??

Princessy > *wave back* haha how's preparation?

zhiwei > the food was good... i felt that even on actual day it still tasted good, and the portion is more than enough.. and we were ensured that Mandarin Court and the main ballroom use two different team of chefs, so the standard won't lapse even if there is a big wedding going on at the main ballroom.

As for bridal suite, it was big but nothing special... doesn't even have bathtub LOL, but i dun think it's important... after the banquet, i was too tired to enjoy the big room... hahaha :p

yeah yeah your good comments here are all correct.
I just have my wedding night on 13th Nov handled by both Christine & Matthew @ Silk Room. They are great wedding banquet managers run through and prepared you for the night

The food the services are all great. No hiccups and all planned accordingly. Yes. Is all great !!!

hihi,
anyone talked to christine to negotiate package before? Is she nice and flexible? A bit worried because we are meeting her this weekend.

By the way, MM emailed us the package for 2011. There is a barrel of beer thrown in. Nothing mentioned on red wine. I'm hoping to get free cockage at least....

MM is more expensive than I thought initially.

Parisbubble, I've not met Christine but another coordinator and was given 2 additional barrels of beer and waiver of corkage for wine. I didn't sign up though.

hobeee > my banquet manager was Matthew too... he's good!

bem > yea i also found it weird that there was no bathtub. but anyway, the room is big and nice... so it's okie la. haha
happy.gif
i think if you book the main ballroom, the bridal suite is different... i think.

Parisbubble > we used MM's red wine. i'm not expert in wine so i can only tell you that it tasted okie for me. my guests didn't complain too... haha... why not you ask them what is the housewine they are using?

tangerinez

New Member
parisbubble, are you referring to mandarin court?

yep, the coordinator showed us pictures of 2 different themes. both are nice but HTB & I liked the garden theme better.

if you are planning to ROM on the same day, do request for free use of either the reception area outside the ballroom, or a function room.

for wine, if you manage to negotiate for corkage waiver, then it might be cheaper to source from outside

Hi tangerinez and Ellen,

Seeing that tangerinez was offered 2 additional barrels of beer, i'm thinking of asking for 1 more barrel and 1 bottle of wine per table instead. 1 barrel of beer is about $600. If I have 20 tables, it will work out to be about $30 per table which is more than enough to cover for 1 bottle of wine. Of course getting from outside is cheaper but then I dun think I want to waste the beer since it's unlikely we'll finish 3 barrels of beer for 1 night.

p/s: MM emailed the standard brochure to me which states 1 free barrel of beer Based on tangerinez's offer of additional 2 barrels, it will bring the total to 3 barrels which in my opinion, is too much for beer.

I'm not even sure I can get tangerinez's offer this weekend. I'm a lousy negotiator so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Each 30l barrel pours 90 glasses. if you ask for 3 barrels, that's 270 glasses. if your guests drink beer, they will most likely have 2 to 3 glasses each for the entire dinner. that's enough for about 90 guests. you are inviting 200 guests, so 3 barrels are enough for less than 50% of your guests.

i think there's no harm asking for more first. note that some hotels provide free flow beer. if later on you think that your guests will not finish 3 barrels, you can then exchange the 3rd barrel for something else.

by the way, my package says additional barrel at $750++. not sure why the difference
happy.gif

but i get your point on the free wine per table thingy. worth trying also although i think i've not heard many couples who got that.

don't worry about being a lousy negotiator. just ask for the list of items in a nice manner. i initially asked for free flow beer. the coordinator said "that might be difficult but let me see what i can do" and the very next day i was told i can get 2 additional barrels.

try for other things like additional night stay. also note that most hotels provide free food tasting but not mandarin court. i forgot how much they charge for food tasting.

hi tangerinez,

hehe, the 600++ for 1 barrel is just a rough figure. I did not ask for a quote for MM. 750++ is quite expensive. I think I have to try your negotiation tactics. Ask for more first and see what they come back with.

oh... I din know they charge for food tasting. I took for granted it's quite "standard"... did you manage to get it free?

ya I intend to ask for an additional night stay. By the way, do you think the helpers day room is important? Cos the helpers are going back in the afternoon. And we have to check out that room at 8pm that evening?

tangerinez

New Member
$750++ is stated in the standard package
happy.gif

somehow i didn't try to nego for free food tasting. i think it's cos it's my first site visit and i thought that it's normal to pay for food tasting (dumb me)

i think helpers' room is not important. the helpers can always camp out in your bridal suite. perhaps you can use that to nego for additional one nite stay (which i didn't ask for also lol).

what i asked for is a preferred rate for deluxe rooms for my friends because they showed an interest to stay over (assuming too high on alcohol for the night) but the rate wasn't attractive.

Ellen: haha mayb some suites do have bathtub.. but anw ya i think will be too tired to do lie in bathtub too :p

Btw is the stage big enough to do a yam seng? seems quite small.. like only can accommodate 10 people or so..

Hi,
I am interested in Mandarin COurt as we are looking at 12 - 15 tables but I can't get hold of anyone by e mail or phone. Does anyone have co-ordinator's DID or direct e mail add please? I wish to make a visit to see Mandarin Court for myself and talk about what the package includes. Looking at Dec 2011. Got their package from SG brides website which says $988++ per table for Sat right?

Hi Julia,

You can look for Marie Goh. She's very helpful. I've already confirmed my date in Dec 11 as well. You've got to be fast, as Dec is already quite fully booked I think (if you are looking at Saturdays). Yes the package for Sat is 988++ per table. =)

Just attended a wedding dinner, i thought some of the well known dish like herbal duck and fish with superior soy sauce could have been done better. The meat was just too tough. The avocado pudding dessert was ok only. Overall, the menu looks enticing but the way it is cook can be improved. i wont discredit them for the sauteed prawn, thai sauce style chicken, its really good and unique.
