Kampung Glam Catering (HORRIBLE!)

Dear all,

Just a word out to brides who are catering halal food like us.

Extremely unpleasant experience with ALEX (Point of contact for catering) from Kampung Café.

We were looking for a caterer for our wedding event. Things went bad the MOMENT we started discussion with Alex.

  1. The price that was printed on their website was around $13/pax. When we met with him, the menu (and even layout of the brochure) remained exactly the same but the price quoted was $18.90. Upon realising the company has made an error (they claimed they forgot to change the price on their website), they agreed to come to a compromise of $15.90. We are no longer able to retrieve the old pricing since they have quickly made changes to their website.

  2. However, this ‘special price’ came at a special stipulation that we must make FULL PAYMENT UP FRONT. At this point, we are starting to feel like carrot heads.. it is extremely rare that any caterer will ask for full payment upfront. With the recent events of even reputable companies closing down on their customers (Bridal shops for instance), it is crazy that they try to ask for full payment when it was a mistake on their part.

  3. We tried to ask for a reasonable compromise and Alex said to send him an email formally. So we did. ONE WEEK LATER, THERE WAS NO REPLY YET. (so much for efficiency) So we called him a week later and asked for an update. HE COULDN’T EVEN REMEMBER WHO WE WERE. He said to give us a reply by the next day after he speaks to his MD, Mrs. Choo.

  4. Tuesday came along and NO REPLY (no surprise). So we decided to take action and call Mrs. Choo. A few points of extreme nastiness came up.
    1. Alex is extremely busy, that is why he didn’t have time to reply. (so busy, don’t do business better right?)

    2. Theirs is a small business so don’t be so demanding. (It’s not a matter of small or big business, it’s about professionalism… which seems BOTH OF THEM LACK)

    3. She is not a messenger, so if we want to order from Kampung Café, we must be comfortable dealing with Alex. Since WHEN did we treat her like a messenger.. we were just trying to get her to BE A LEADER AND DO WHAT SHE IS PAID FOR.. which is to deal with problems that arose between her staff and customers.

While it is admirable that she is defensive about her staff, the interaction was rather biased and no follow-up still. Dear Wedding Couples and potential customers out there, I urge you to seriously reconsider when you are looking for a catering company.
