Anyway, Melody, yes, beer will have to be purchased from the hotel directly. It can be either glasses or barrel. barrel comes in 2 kinds 20litre serves abt 60 glasses and 30litre serves abt 90 glasses. unfortunately, u can't return the balance. so usually towards the end of the dinner, couples always ask the staff to pump out all the beer and serve out to all the drinkers.

Do we pay for the barrel after the dinner, based on how many barrel is consumed? Or must we order, say 2 barrels, and must pay before the dinner?

I have done a round of hotel viewing and am down to two hotels which I quite like- Oriental vs Intercontinental. The prices are similar and my hubby and I really cannot make up our mind about which hotel to choose. I am quite concerned about the quality of food and service. Please give me your feedback.. when your complimentary barrel of beer runs low, the banquet manager will ask if you would want to open another barrel. it will be charged to the total wedding bill after everything.

Honestly, I have not tried the food at Intercontinental. I've had attended a couple of wedding dinners at Oriental before and I must say the food is good. They are one of my choice too. =)

i'm a prev Intercon bride, and all i can say is that the ballroom, the service, the food, the bridal suite and the ambience are just fantastic! Most of my guests have fave reviews abt our wedding dinner. Our theme was "Charming elegrance" thou we chg the roses to a mixture of babypink & white & pastal green. But the ballroom was just magical & beautiful!

As for beer, we managed to bargain for 2 barrels of 30L each, but not that popular. Unlike the wine! we opened 60 bottles for 40 tables!!!

Hi Jo,

when is your AD? I am going down to place my deposit with Intercon soon.

I would think it is better to negotiate all your wants before putting down the deposit, and have them written down in the contract.

For me, my guests would go for wine rather than beer. Hence i did not ask for extra/free flow of beer. Instead I ask for more wine. Also, those items included in the package which I dun want, I exchanged them for wines.

Hi Bubbles,

If u r having dinner on the same day IC will only move the floral stand n chairs from the ballroom to the froyer. They do not provide floral deco of the froyer. You will have to find ur own florist to tell them ur ideas or u can ask IC to give u their florist contact no. and liaise with them directly.

Hi brides, my big day is coming up in Oct!

But I must share my woes on Hotel Intercontinental.

Me and my htb went to collect the invitational cards at the counter at the lobby and to our surprise, many of the cards are quite badly bent.

Furthermore, the quality of the cards are really cannot make it. To add salt to injury, the envelop provided along with it are the translucent types (which is so cheapo looking to the ultimate max!)

My theme is Charming Elegance but I believe the same quality of cards apply to all other themes.

HOW DO THEY EXPECT ME TO GIVE OUT TO MY GUESTS SUCH LOUSY QUALITY CARDS - EVEN WORSE THAN THOSE PROVIDED BY RESTAURANTS?!!?!?

I decline accepting the cards, and will be calling Jane (very hard to get her on the phone btw)

I am starting to feel the stress as the AD is coming with so many planning to do.

Can someone who recently got married at Intercon assure me of quality service on the AD?

Now got another expense that I need to fork out... cards.

Seriously how did anyone of you send out those kind of cards and not feel embarrassed?
Esp when it is expected from everyone that Hotel Intercon is a 5 stars hotel with a grand ballroom?

Im an IC bride getting married in Sep. I have also collected the cards and none of the cards are bent. I have chosen the Whimsical magic theme. Didnt get a chance to look at the charming elegance cards so no comments on it.

I have given out the cards to most of my colleagues and all of them said its nice and special with the translucent envelope. I personally like the envelope too.

Just had my pre-wedding photoshoot at the hotel, must really praised Jane and Stephanie for their cordial arrangement for the usage of hotel. Stephanie even brought us to the popular locations of the hotel for photoshoot out of her tight schedule. Although there is a lack of usage of the hotel bridal suite, there was special arrangement to let us used the 'Peranakan shophouse-style' room. I still feel the service i got from them is very warm and sincere. Kudos to them. However, one comment about the people at the reception are their slight coldness and not reactive towards yr request. Some of them should provide better customer service. Overall, still enjoyed the outdoor shoot there. Can recommend to bro and sis

Will be taking up whimsical magic theme as well. From day one after signing the contract at the hotel, i already knew the cards were slightly inferior as compared to other hotels. Maybe an elegant looking envelope and insert will improve the outlook?

I've collected my Opulent Desire cards as well a mth or 2 ago from the concierge and the cards were fine too. I think the cards are ok for my hubby and I cos we're not too particular about the cards. As long as we can send it out to our guests it's fine. You should change those cards that are bent and I'm sure they'll change it for you. Don't get too stress ya?

We had our PS at IC last mth too and it was indeed very pleasant as well, with Jane attending to and helping us throughout the shoot, making sure we had drinks and bringing us to the various locations in the hotel where we can have our pics taken. Hmm..I didn't recall any coldness by the recep staff. Need to check with my hubby cos he was the one who collected the room key. Hope the service by the banquet staff will be good.

But overall it was a nice experience.

I went down to IC today... the ballroom is very very nice =) Deciding between pan pac, Hyatt and IC... any comments on the food by IC?

Hi Calumon,

I just went for food tasting and the food are really nice. It was prepared by a Hong Kong chef from the chinese restaurant at Man Fu Yuan.

I did not attend any wedding dinner at IC before so can only based on the food tasting to gauge.

However, if in terms of ballroom, i personally feel that IC has the nicest ballroom among the 3 u have mentioned. Based on my friends past exprience with Hyatt, i would like to advise u to think twice for Hyatt. Its quite bad till Hyatt had to refund them for a table or two. However, i do not know whether they have already improved or not.
