Sphire, it was just me, my hubby and the photographer. There wasn't a need for anyone else to accompany us. I guess it depends also on how long the outdoor photoshoot is and if you are having more than 1 costume. If you do a costume change, its good to have someone along to help.

Rany - Yup Shanti is buggin mi for a trial date. At tht time she said nearer to banquet would be better since I've confirmed her. Now she chasing mi n I cant provide her with one at the moment. She only does trial on weekends and my weekends are filled till May. Got to slot her in somewhere. Anyway her trial and actual day is gonna have vast diff. So really dont c the point of doin trial.
Durga - Looks like 8 Dec is real hot date. Looks like mi got to settle my videographer and JP soon.

Aiyoh, I went to Menaka for my trial yest. Her makeup sucks big time! Her eye makeup was damn messy. She used 4 colours for my eyes but it looks like she used only 1 colour-Red. shows her blending is no good. I told her that her work is untidy & she said "I will rectify it now itself" & did touch up. Turned out its still messy! The prob with her is she's just too busy. Even when doing my trial, she just went off to do threading, talked to future brides & kept accepting all the walk in customers. I just have to wait there for to finish. If the end result were gd, I wouldn't have minded. But her makeup for me was unacceptable. My sis studied makeup from her few mths back & she was so shocked to see Menaka's makeup like that. She told me she'll call her & tell her off.
The false eyelashes was easily spotted, she didn't sharpen my nose,my lashes were all clumpy, my blush was so light...I could go on & on abt it. I'm so disappointed

Angelic- My best fren attended menaka's bridal course too, n she waz juz disappointed with the way the course was conducted even. the makeup techniques, eye colours & hairstyles were outdated and she actually sent in her daughter to teach the students now and then between the lessons, becuz.. u guessed it... she waz buzy attending to the walk-in customers! dosnt seem too professional now, does it! n cld u pls send me the pics of yr trial angelic.. i would like to see the blending of the colours.. [email protected] thanx dear.

Angelic - Wow.. u must really hv a bad trial yesterday. But I hv to say that Menaka really did a great job for my sis jus 3 wks ago. No trial involved. Since my engagement date changed, I even cancelled my booking with previous MUA just to book Menaka. I hv no regrets. Probably it depends on individual preferences. I'm not really a makeup person. Just prefer something simple and elegant. Most importantly to bring out my indian features (which i dont hv much).
Ya that's y I dun understand. Did she do a messy job bcoz she was busy ? I wouldn't know...anyway her work yest was slip shod. She just can't concentrate on me alone...Keep leaving me halfway to attend to others. I went to her shop at 4.45pm & left at 7.30pm! Anyway her accessories are nice..

Gone to India, New delhi and I've purchased my lehenga which is a rusty orange in colour+ heavy embroidery. Also got the punjabi Chura's(is that whats its called?) from there.I really like seeing the sikh brides wearing them so i tot i'd get a set to wear as well
Wedding Cards
also got my wedding cards.Have yet to get them printed.But wil be doing so by the 1st week of Apr.Also planning to get a program card done for the non indian guests and for my FH's relatives.
Jewellery
Currently searching for Imitation jewellery.Have gone to MKM and shops in Selegie, did like one "devdas set" after all the searching but its priced at $420.Something i will wera only once probably... I am thinking of purchasing one online from www.bombayfashions.com.
Footwear
for myself i'm looking for the Khussa.As i want something i can slip on and off easily cuz need to take off shoes before entering the mandap.

I heard the official caterers in Khalsa;Riverwalk do provide deco packages, yet to take a look. Anyone has seen their packages? what are the prices like?

I need to get a four pole canopy under which the rituals will take place.Anyone has any idea where i can get nice ones?

me booked Khalsa L2 for my wedding too..it's on 1st dec 07....i paid $1365 and additional $500 4 deposit....how much did you gals pay 4 the place? m quite worried abt the deco 2...hv u gals seen the deco?i'm taking the food from riverwalk...had gd comments abt them..but not sure whats their pricing like...haven't decided on the dishes yet 2....do u hv ant idea if they provide deco 4 the stage...?

Wow...there have been so many posts since i last dropped by...No time to read all of them...hehehe...It is very chaotic in my house at this moment. My poor family is running all about to make my wedding a successful one. Half the family is busy with entertaining my guests from London and the other half is looking after the wedding preps...Thankfully, i am at home resting and my only responsibility is to make calls and make arrangements with the wedding vendors...
My hubby bought me an orange-red saree with sequins on it for my reception. Hey gals.. I’m back again.. Having “imprisoned†at home for 3 days.. finally the “beauty†is off the leash.. hahaha..
it’s kind of weird wearing a “Thaali†chain to bed cos I’m not the kind who likes to have something “hooked†on my neck when I go to bed and furthermore it’s kinda heavy… Actually, mine is only 3pounds chain strung with the thaali (abt6-7 pounds) and other pendants that were gifts from aunties. MIL and other aunties ones are even heavier with lots of pendents strung on.. I was lucky that I opt for the lightest available..
Furthermore, The chain has to be as long possible cos It signifies the lifespan of ur husband… I plead for something shorter, so FIL gave in and got me one that is just nice rest inbet the chest bone area.. It is so interesting to know that everyone has a different design for the Thaali.. Normally the design follows ur FH side.. I tot there was a standard template for all.
Anyway, MIL told me not to show anyone freely, especially strangers and they should not touch it cos they believe it may cast evil spells/ black magic stuff in the marriage or ur hubby…

to show your relatives/friends.. Once worn, it’s for life. Meanwhile, I was also told to wear the Thaali discreetly inside ur clothing, and even if u want to show to ur aunties and all, both the Thaalis cannot “meetâ€.. Bad Omen and bad luck for hubby as well.
And The silver toe rings was a pain too.. Hubby can’t take it..
so he remove his already .. the ones they got for me at tekka was too big and design was outdated.. was told can’t wear the gold ones but don’t know the reason why.. will find out… Hubby used to buy me nice toe rings from India.. Really adorn them, especially the semi-precious stones ones.. had asked him to get 2 sets for me during his next trip to India.. with blue sapphire ones.. just can’t wait to change into them.
Had gone back to work last 3 days after my wedding..
still a little disoriented since I was away from work for nearly 2 weeks.. Work was piling up and lots of projects datelines are overdue… Finally the weekend is here… I was so looking forward to have another good rest..
To all the BTB, happy preparation and please get as much help from your cousins and aunties… don’t be shy to ask for help..
the married cousins would have good recommendation since they had been thru the preparation process… and the aunties are veterans in these area as well.. I was lucky that my husband’s aunties are very good advisers.. they have helped in other pple’s wedding prep. before... They knew a few pple..so comes in handy when u need to budget ur spending…
Also if they helped u this round, u can “pay†them back ur kindness when their sons and daughters get married.

Re. Fasting> Yes, u start on the Bangle cermony day which should be on 31st May if ur temple wedding is on 2 June. U only “break- fast†after the temple wedding. U can start fasting a little earlier cos different individuals have diff. body adaptation.. my cousin in law felt a little giddy on the actual day so she had to drank lots of glucose to keep her sugar level..
..Some will feel hungry all the time so u tend to snack quite a bit… I was like this when I started one mth before the wedding.. but I snack on apples and cherry tomatoes, so it’s still a healthy choice…
another advantage for me… I lost weight! Abt 5kg..
.. My saree blouse which I collected 10 days before wedding was so loose, could not hang on my shoulder, keep falling off.. the MUA had to put 2 pins to fasten the top and lucky thing that I sew buttons on the shoulder area to hook on the bra strip, so basically my bra was the support of my top. The minus point, chest size was 1 size smaller.. I turned “C†cup now….
Re. List of things to buy for 3 ceremonies (bangle/thaali/actual temple), have it in writing only.. don’t worry, I will be typing in softcopy.. will post here or email u once done.
Re. Music for the actual day, SIL got a CD from a friend which she bought from M3 called the “30 most romantic songs for valentine dayâ€. Other cousins helped to toast a CD of the latest songs from MP3 downloads. If u want, I can pass u a copy. I also brought a few English and Mandarin CDs there to play at the function hall cos MIL said since this is a “multi-culture†wedding, there are quite a few Chinese and Malay guests so the music can keep them company.
We played some Jazz/ brazilian/Lounge easy listening collection ( from Michael Buble, Diana Krall, Ono Lisa, bossa nova..etc) at the beginning of the wedding.. it really helps to ease my mood too..
I ended up singing along in the Makeup room while waiting for the ceremony to start.. Indian songs then was played after the ceremony. TIPS: please get someone to be in-charge of the CDs u brought to the hall so that he/she is responsible to collect back for u. Remember to give him a list.
Re. the note to include for “money Gift†for the invites… don’t think pple around practice that.. I only had an apology note for me to include in the invites to the friends and distant relatives that I had to mail them instead of giving them by hand.. Don’t know whether is rude to include the money gift note in the invites….I think the guests will understood that the “angpow†is the most practical gift for the wedding function.
...I received all angpows from the Indian/Muslim guests, but some Chinese/foreign guests does not know wat is appropriate, so u have to forgive them if they turn up with gifts and shopping voucher. It happened to me though.
Re: Window period for the temple wedding> As far as I know, temple wedding only give u 1 hr “auspicious†period which u must have ur “maangalyam†or “Thaali†tied.. Usually they will advise u to have the ceremony cut short.. my friend skipped the changing of the wedding saree so she just worn it when she come temple… If u want the full version, u have to start a least 1 hour earlier (tat means at 8am so that u can complete the typing before 10am.For me, I started 630pm so we finished on-time at 830pm.
Re: Bangles> If u have not buy urs, u can get it at this shop next Jothi . I bought some nice bangles before at this shop (can’t remember the name) but it’s in front of the lane at komalas, walk straight and is a small shop beside this sewing shop. It’s run by this Bengali lady and she can match beautiful bangles with stoneworks type and all.. abt the same price with Jothi shop. Abt $50-60 per set. Meanwhile u can check if she carries any glass bangles

BIG mistake that we order from them. They FORGOT my order on my wedding day..
In fact I heard from my relatives that they had forgotten a couple of orders for house function and celebration. For my wedding, I had non-veg and veg food..My brother in law called the main office @530pm when he realized that their food was not there at the Kalsah. The Manager claimed that there was no such order and after we verified with the order receipt, they said that the order was not keyed into the system. So they apologized and quickly arrange for the food to come. They kept saying they will be there half hour time… by 845pm, the food reached us, half the non-veg crowd had left, leaving us so much of embarrassment cos the relatives waited almost 2 hrs for the food to come and they went home empty stomach. The best was that they served us whatever food from the retail restaurant which was not wat we ordered. It was total crap and the food was cold…
Lucky thing we only ordered for 150pax.. can’t imagine if I ordered for all 1200 guests. We did not pay them a single cent, they refunded our deposit of $200. Hubby was so MAD
.. he wanted to sue the restuarant.. the manager (I can’t put his name here), he begged and offered additional $50 as compensation. It was never enuf to cover the humiliation
we got from the relatives.. my poor ILs…it was the topic for the week when relatives came by to our house.
I told hubby.. don’t expect me to eat their food again.
Well, this is my true experience. Perhaps we did not cross check the order 1 day bfore the wedding. Maybe It can be avoided. So gals, no matter how busy u are, please make at least 2 reminder phone calls to check your order if u have separate catering for food. TIPS: Call them at least 3-4 days before,make sure they get the right number of pax + the menu ordered + the wedding date/time/venue and have their order input in their “systemâ€â€¦ (actually pointless to be computerized when they don’t make sure of it)

Rental of the hall is only abt 850 ( i think) when u are a member.. my hubby took the membership cos the family is big and they love to organise functions and birthday party and all.. u can also help ur relatives to book on your behalf and get the savings..
Khalsa do not have decorator for function hall.. u need to use your own... but U don't need to worry abt the deco.. just get the few contacts the gals have been sharing around.. they are very familiar with khalsa personnel and have done many deco with the place before..
..Is urs an evening event? Mine started at 6pm.. u can get the hall by 1pm on actual day for the deco guys to come and do the job...TIP: please forget abt the plumping.. the stage is too small and with plumping it is very difficult for u and the relatives to take pics.. same goes to all the other brides if u have a small area to work on the ceremony..this is tips shared by my PGs i know.
Not sure if u have ordered the table and chairs rental from them.. no outside supplier.. have to use them.. I paid $1 for each chair and $3 for table.. bear in mind, the table do not come with skirting so u need the decorator to provide...
BUT since u are taking the food from Riverwalk.. the table and chairs are included in their costing.. with simple deco for the tables.. but not the stage.. u can check with them if they do.. should be the few same guys in the market.. YES.. their food is quite good..they specialised in north indian dishes..
I did not take the food from them cos my In-laws and the relatives are sick of the food they offer..always had functions at the restaurant upstair so watever they had on the menu, we had tried.. so we wanted something diff for the wedding.. I paid additional $100 more to get outside caterer.. Meanwhile, i also have budget constraint.. they charge me abt $20-25 for the dishes i wanted.. (incl the table and chairs).. For 1200 pple, my bill will come up to at least $24,000 just for that..
i still have to pay the rental for the hall and the rest..It's a BIG hole in my pocket... not cost effective..
.. so not practical for me and surely i can't break even with the angpow collection if i use them, so i took outside catering.. my bill was only half.
So My advice is it all depends on ur crowd and budget whichever u can afford..

Average for henna is abt $120 to $150 for both hands and legs. It depends and how far up u wan the henna to go.

Joelle - The caterer really did a bad bad job. I cn imagine the humiliation your family would hv gone thro. No matter how much of effort we all put in for the wedding, no one will tok abt it after 1 mth. BUT if something bad happens, it'll be a tok for a lifetime. U shd get them to compensate u more.
Suhana - I was like u.. wanna rent a lengha instead of spending $$ on an outfit tht only gonna wear for once. To rent is $350 or more. But is u cn get materials and sew up 1, it may cost u even below $500. Now mi hv decided to design my own lengha and get it sewn.

Average for henna is abt $120 to $150 for both hands and legs. It depends and how far up u wan the henna to go.
