I have made my decision FINALLY

After years of torment and the recent explosion, I have decided, that for the sake of my child and I, I will proceed with the divorce. This is also what that man has wanted. Just that I've ended up in a shitty state, he caused me get into huge debts over the years due to his poor financial situation. Now, we have to sell away the current flat and I will be moving to a smaller place. For me, smaller place is fine, coz I just need a roof of sanity and peace for both my child and I. Just that at this pt in time, I sort of felt very down every now and then. My future seems so bleak, having to clear the debts in the years ahead. N I don't trust him enough to be paying maintenance for his child. Coz in the first place, he told me that I'm working and earning more than him, the court will not order him to pay me alimony. In fact, many of his buddies who are divorced don't give alimony to their ex-wife too.

When I heard that, I felt that I can't trust him at all. Guys and gals here, do you know whether we can get one lump sum payment of maintenance from the ex-spouse? I don't want him to get away with such things. He has already ruined part of my life by getting me into debts, I can't sue him coz I signed the cards on my own to help him, it's my fault, and I learnt my lesson, I would work hard to pay it off. But for the maintenance of the child, i don't want him to get away with it.

Does anyone of you know of a lawyer who deals with such cases of maintenance and alimony effectively for their clients? I need a lawyer who can fight well for the maintenance and alimony. I don't want to end up like the ex-spouses of his buddies, not getting any alimony and faulting on maintenance in the end.

Thank you.

- not true... bankrupts have to pay maintenance too. pls check this with your lawyer for clarity... dun base on wat pple tell u.

find a lawyer, get your facts and options...

serene , perhaps if u want a lump of sum for your child maintainance so badly, ask your lawyer to get your ex husband to give up his share of the nett proceed after selling away your flat. This way could be a clean break from him.

Serene, alot of people can provide you with a lot of ideas.. It is better to seek proper legal advices.

No, I'm not really looking for ideas here. I'm looking for contacts of good lawyers. Anyone has contacts for them? I want to find out legal rights of the whole situation. Many thanks!

Be prepared that after the court has determined an amount for child maintenance, you may still need to spend money to enforce it if he defaults the monthly payment. Don't think you can easily put a figure to the sum you need to spend dealing with a difficult spouse.

If your hubby really wants a quick divorce, then please get your hubby to agree to give u child maintanance and alimony and watever u wants and can honour his words, then u might have a quick and uncontested divorce or otherwise, good luck to u to fight for wat u want from your hubby... and I agreed with Cindy C. so be prepared to fork out a lot of $$ for the divorce proceedings.

Serene, that's why you have to know how much you are willing / can fork out for the whole thing? If he is willing / wanted the divorce in the 1st place, you might ask him to bear all the legal costs as well.

If both parties want a divorce and its amicable it should not cost much. Call this lawyer Miss Prasanna @65350959 and ask, she is reasonable.
