Grand Hyatt Singapore

hi och

urg.. juz checked with coordinator who said that hibiscus room is taken up already.. therefore that means there's 3 weddings on that day - same as yours...

but guess i still prefer sir stamford since that's my first choice n it got the grand piano. i got a few pianist friends to play on that day. also, i guess it is more convenient for them to take escalators than to take lift.

hv u tried ENYA songs? i think some is suitable for the wedding. As for classical songs, i recommend the one plays in "The Piano" by rachmaninoff (hope i spelled correctly...) n i love Canon as well!!

och

mine will be in late oct in Hibiscus room.
so you compile the songs in a cd for them to play? keep me update after your meeting with the co-ordinator ok?
happy.gif

hi ram,

oh shucks, 3 weddings as well. thanks for the suggestions. i love enya too, but agree that not all her songs r suitable. i'm looking at suzanne cianni now. rachmaninoff pieces r always gd, i'm playing some of his pieces for cocktails.
happy.gif

hey jes, yep, i'm cutting a cd for them. since the songs selected so far r fr different cds.
proud.gif
will keep u updated.

cheval

the portion of food during food tasting is alot and we can't finish! the ginseng chicken and the live prawn with wine is not bad...

saw the table settings and the floral table centre piece. i will be choosing the ivory chopstick and floral centrepiece with candles. have not choose the solours of the table cloth yet. which floral centrepiece did you choose? and red roses if i am not wrong?

jes,

correct, is red roses flower plot with candles.
I like their live prawn too. hw about the desert, remember that you hv something diff. from mine.

cheval

cheval

dessert i hv rice dumpling in red date soup ('tang yuen' in cantonese 'tongsui'), not bad but very filling;p the sea cucumber in szechuan style too hot so changing to scallop.

i like the floral pot with candles too...they say they will light up the candles when they open the ballroom. so how do you find the embience of the ballroom when candles are lighted up in the whole ballroom? nice?

hi jes,

it will be very nice nice & romantic definitely.

btw have u decided on the ice-carving already, i remember they hv swan, dolphin & vase. you may want to think of it now, at first never really thot of it just blur blur choose swan, although my co-ordinator subjected vase. u know what i did change to vase 3 days b4 my wedding.

cheval

so is the vase nicer than swan? one vase or a pair? i've not thought abt it at all. thanks for reminding me. is there anything that i miss out?

hi jes,

a pair of vase on the stage with roses. well all depend on u, only diff vase is unique. mine cos my deco was quite simple the emphasis on the red roses to bring out the mood. Hyatt will show you the picture.

cheval

hi snowbelle,

mine is a standard package....yes GH include ice-carving. i booked my parckage on June2001 1yr b4 my marriage.

hyatt do not include ice-carving now...?

cheval

Hi,

I would be meeting up with my coordinator soon. Can anyone share what would be discussed and what to take note.

Thks

Hi och... noticed that you mentioned that you will be having "sash" for your chairs. For your VIP table only or for every table?

You know hyatt's policy is $15 per person for a theme (coloured sash for chairs, additional flowers yada yada).... I was wondering if there is anyway we can bargain for coloured sash for chairs and forget about the flowers... with no extra charge of course... mine's about 60 tables...

hi olio,

when i met up with my coordinator, we visited the ballrms that suit my requirements, went through the package n discussed the options available for each package (e.g. flowers, colours, invitation cards etc) n looked at photographs. in addition, we requested to visit the bridal suite n discussed our additional needs, e.g. food tasting, beer, wines, day use room, late checkouts, exchange of invitation cards. the whole meeting was abt 1.5 hrs.

hi suzie,

i bargained for sashes for every chair foc. only sashes, no flowers n the additional theme stuff.
happy.gif

Hi ladies,

not sure if you remember me...I was interested in Hyatt sometime back...and actually made an arrangement with Georgette to see the ballrooms...not sure if it's us or what, but somehow, i feel no chemistry between Georgette and us. She seems quite detached...and everything is so strictly by the book, that's a deterrent to us in signing up with Hyatt.

Not that she's rude or anything...it's just that she doesn't seem to be that friendly compared to the rest of the coordinators I've met elsewhere...any comments anyone??

och

you manage to bargain for foc sash for every chair without exchanging anything? how did you do that? who's your coordinator?

me too feel that my coordinator is inflexible and rigid...so didn't bother to 'bargain' with her.

pls advise.

Hi sam

u r rite. Georgette is not very friendly. She is also my co-ord. there will always be a distance.

I felt that too. So far, she can be flexible when u hv something in exchange but for something free I think she is a bit tought

Hi Sam,

My coordinator is Georgette too.

Julia is right, she is not that friendly. But she is quite flexible with things. Whatever we asked for, she kept saying 'hmm... shouldn'y be a problem' etc etc

hi sam,

sure we remember u.
happy.gif
i've never met georgette myself, but i had experiences with another hyatt coordinator who is quite removed too. i've met yet another who is downright snobbish.
crazy.gif

if u r still interested in hyatt, i recommend u my coordinator, anthony. hving worked with him to finalise all my wedding details, i find him really responsible n responsive. i just told him that the main table may hv 2 grandparents on wheel chairs, thinking that he will simply set aside 2 seats that r bigger than others. he surprised me when he said he will get me a bigger table, so that our grandparents will be comfortable.
happy.gif

hi jes,

i din do anything special to get the sashes. i think most pple just din ask for them, cos it seems rather trivial.
lame.gif
i m not going to serve beer, so beer din even feature in my negotiations. maybe that's why i could get the freebies i asked for.

my current coordinator is anthony, but he wasn't the guy i signed up with. my coordinator history is quite convoluted, i dun think u want to know the full details. in summary, i signed up with louis, who resigned soon after i signed up (it's not my fault, i swear
happy.gif
). then i was reassigned to eileen, reworked my contract when i changed fr hibiscus to grand ballrm, but she left for studies earlier this yr. so i'm now assigned to anthony.
happy.gif

i must say that louis, eileen n anthony r v. approachable. going thru the preps with anthony now is a breeze, he pays a lot of attention to details n he doesn't assume anything abt my preferences.
happy.gif
i've been recommending him to all my friends n colleagues who r looking at hyatt.

r u still looking for songs to play? i asked anthony abt songs. he said hyatt doesn't hv a big collection so i din ask for the cds they hv. he will lend me his personal collection for a look. r there any particular type of music u want to play? jazz, sentimental, classical, popsy?

och

oh...i am thinking that i can make do with the musics that hyatt hv.. and now you says they do not hv a wide collections and that makes me worried.
its so nice of anthony to offer you his personal collection.

my co-ordinator is cynthia, i dun think she will agree to provide me sash for all chairs even if i ask for it. hv tried asking her some small favors but not possible.

i guess i'll go for sentimental or classical music...

Hi ladies,

so great to see so many hyatt brides here...actually i'm also interetsed in hyatt..haven't talked to any of the coordinators yet..cos we have juz received the package details from hyatt and the name card attached is Geogette..So if I contact geogette..does it mean that she will be my coordinator? I have heard from one of u that Anthony is more flexible, so must consider more carefully...

och, could u give me anthnoy's contact?

And I would like to ask if anyone of u are having solemnisation in the hotel? How much do I have to add for that?

I've heard there will be a wedding fair on the 30thOct..anyone aware of that? Is the promotion applicable for wedding in Nov2003?

Thank you very much

oh och... you lucky gal.... must be the beer. I asked for beer... maybe that's why I wasn't given the sashes.... then again.... maybe i didn't bug him enough... by the way, my co-ordinator is Anthony too.

So what other freebies did you get? I didn't get much. Only the beer... not too sure what else I should ask for. By the way, how many tables are you having? I've got about 60.

hi jes,

i hv some cds of sentimental n classical music. if u want, i can lend them to u after i've cut my cd? that should be in a couple of weeks' time.

hi mio,

yep, whoever u contact will be ur coordinator. anthony can be reached at 64167042. btw, anthony did not give me the freebies that r in my contract, cos he "inherited" the contract fr louis n eileen, both of whom hv left hyatt. suzie is a better person to ask regarding the freebies that u can get fr anthony.
wink.gif
all i can say is, he is v. approachable, so if u hv real needs that crop up during the wedding preps, he will do his best to accomodate ur requests.
happy.gif

hyatt always hv a wedding show in oct. i recalled that in last yr's show, couples were allowed to book their packages regardless of when their wedding was. i'm not sure abt their rules n promotions this time round though. maybe u can contact anthony to enquire?

hi suzie,

unlike u, i din negotiate my contract with anthony, but with louis n eileen b4 they left. anthony "inherited" my contract, which included the free sashes.
happy.gif
my contract states a min of 42 tables, but i confirmed 45 over the weekend.

suzie

you mean Hyatt gives you free barrel of beer???

och

thanks for the offer, will let you know if i need it. btw do you compile the songs in a cd yourself or send to somewhere to do it?

wow! the thread is ao active.

Tks for the info gals. Will there be a wedding show in Oct? If so, I would love to attend before I confirm my venue. I love the chandeliers in the hisbiscus room...

Och - if I were to contact Anthony separately, will it be awkward to later "bump" into Georgette? I understand they do have a certain sales target to meet, with incentive too, isn't it so?

hi jes,

i'm getting my brother to do it.
happy.gif

hi sam,

yep, coordinators hv a certain sales target to meet n they get commission for every deal they make. hv u place a tentative booking already? i think u should contact anthony only if hyatt is v. high up on ur priority list. personal experience is that things can get awkward if georgette recognises u. i visited hyatt twice b4 i met louis n both times, diff coordinators were assigned to bring me around (one was on leave at one time, another was on course at another). frankly, one of them cannot recognise me, not even if i give her my name. but the other can recognise n call my name fr across the lobby. it was awkward to meet him again after we switched to louis.
crazy.gif
louis agreed to take us on cos we were more or less settled on hyatt but we just couldn't get along with the 2 coordinators. i suspect, he wouldn't entertain us if we were still shopping around.

hi all,

before everyone gets the impression that georgette is a lousy coordinator..... she is not so bad. in fact, like what i said, she is quite flexible with the things my hubby and me asked for.

in fact, she did not really reject my requests like 'can we have more carpark coupons' etc etc.

she even thrown in the food tasting for us.

georgette does not seem friendly as she does not smile so much.... but she is really ok and i have no complains abt her so far
happy.gif

hi hi,

as a follow-up to slk's msg, b4 i give the wrong impression
lame.gif
, we din switch coordinators for frivilous reasons. it can get awkward, not just for us but for the coordinators as well, when we request for a switch. we did what we did cos we were fuming mad after meeting the 2nd coordinator.

wah....why is everyone getting freebies where i couldn't get any at all? i hv to pay for my food tasting!

Hi och,

Thank you for telling me so much the coordinating matters...I think I better consider first before I approach anyone of them...
happy.gif
I will definitely attend their wedding fair...hope to get more freebies during sign up

Has anyone of u seen camelia room before? How does it look like? Does it have a low ceiling? I love to take hibiscus..but we couldn't make up the number to 25 (min tables)...At most we would only have 23 tables...If I have 23 tables, will they still give me camelia room..cos it can accomodate max 19 tables... SIGH...

Hi Mio,

Actually u dun have much of a problem! U can bargain to lower the min no. to 23 tables for the Hibiscus Ballroom, and make sure it's stated as that in the contract. And perhaps throw out some stuff in the package in exchange, eg invite cards, 2nd night stay, or upgrade the menu, etc...

Camelia would not be a good idea unless u're sure your no. of guests won't exceed 190! Hope u can have your dream banquet venue!
happy.gif

Hi Mio

Nat is rite, camelia is not suitable. Moreover, usually the number will increase when the date is nearer. Mine increased from 22 tables to now already 25 tables.

Try to strike a bargain, some thing like ice carving, guest book, etc etc can always use to exchange. DIY your own wedding favours so u can opt not to have that either.

Alternatively, check with Hyatt whether can you come back in future (after your wedding) for the 2 tables that you can't make up. If yes, state that down in your contract.

Camelia is not a good idea. U already hv 23 now, camelia is definately insufficient.

Hi All,

Is GH really good, I'm more concern abt the food and the ambience there...And my bf concern abt the food, ambience and the ceiling of the room as well.

I talked to Anthony b4, he is good...
happy.gif
friendly, helpful, flexible....
happy.gif

happy.gif
vin

hi mio,

u r welcome. if the dates u want r still available n not a "hot" date, it's a gd idea to sign up at the wedding fair.
wink.gif

i've seen the camelia rm. my main gripe is still against its location on the corridor to hibiscus. it's ceiling is lower than hibiscus. is ur wedding on weekend or weekday? hibiscus is a popular ballrm, lowering the min no is usually not a problem on weekdays but on weekends, it will be tougher. so far as i know, coordinators will be questioned if they reserve a ballrm for a far smaller capacity than what it's intended for. but if u can confirm 22+2 or 23+2 tables, the coordinators may be able to take ur request. if u really like hibiscus, serenade the coordinator.
happy.gif

hi gals

i will be having dinner in hibiscus room.
can check with you if i confirm 26 tables and 2 tables reserve, and on the actual day i only use up 26 tables, will i be charge for the 2 reserve tables? or come back next day to eat for the 2 tables?

hi vin,

oops.
lame.gif
sorry for the mix-up. my preps r... ok i guess. i've briefed my helpers n i'm still giving out invitation cards, but i haven't started preparing for my video montage.
uhoh.gif
i booked my wg package with margaret brides.
proud.gif
r u shopping for packages now?

hi jes,

u wun be charged for the 2 reserve tables unless u "open" the tables. so long as the 1st dish is served on a reserve table, the table is "opened" n subsequent dishes will be served.
wink.gif

Hi Jes,

They will just charge you the 26 tables...
happy.gif
the 2 reserve table they will not charge you.

Actually, if you are quite sure and confident of your attendent list, you can order 25 tables, so that (touch wood) in case just 25 tables use up. So you just pay 1 table extra (which is the reserve table). Vice versa, if you order 26 tables, you just used up 25 tables, you will waste 1 table $. For the extra table, you cannot go for another day fr dinner, what you can do is take back the dry food...
happy.gif

Hi Och,

I booked my packaged with Julia.

Your video montage is all about your wedding photos???

When is your wedding???

Any games on that day??

Hi nat, julia andrew and och,

Thank you very much for ur replies...well I'll try to bargain for hibiscus as I like it very much too..my wedding will be on sunday...so it might be much harder..but MUST try...
happy.gif

mio

hi vin,

the montage wouldn't just be on the wedding photos. we intend to show photos of the family n friends too. but until i actually select the photos, i cannot tell what will be shown.
crazy.gif

my wedding is on sept 14, same day as julia andrew's. we'll leave the games planning to our friends. i quite dislike drinking games, but thank goodness, my friends dun play those games.
proud.gif

hi mio, u r welcome. happy bargaining.

Hi Mio,

Care to share when's your wedding date? Just curious as mine is also on a sunday, in dec03...
happy.gif

Go ahead and sweet-talk, cajole, seduce, or pester, nag, etc... until they say YES!
biggrin.gif
Another way is to ask them to charge a slightly higher per-table-price (maybe $20, $30 more) for say, 18-24 tables, put that into the contract and make them confirm your booking on Hibiscus. Good luck!
wink.gif

Hi Och,

You must be very excited now erh...wish you happy..
happy.gif

You engaged ppl to prepare the montage for you?

Let me know what games they prepare for you.

My bf attended one of his friends wedding dinner, there's a gangs of friends asked the groom and bride drink all glass of hard liquor with 2 eggs...
uhoh.gif
etc..

Then when they follow to the hotel room, they asked the couple hide under the blanket, just show out their head, then ask them to take off everything under the blanket, so dangerous, incase they want to take away the blanket...
sad.gif
.

Hi Mio,

Is that any others ppl wedding on the same day as you at GH?? If not, think should be no problem for you to get the room you like.. happy bargain with them, or ask your Fh to do so...
happy.gif
or both do it... "shuang jian he bing" sure will win...
happy.gif

Hi Mio and Nat,

Think if you want to use a bigger room but don't have sufficient table, one extra table you need to pay ard S$60/- (this is for grand ballroom), not sure for the smaller room, check with your co-ordinator. Or maybe asked themm, is that possible to top-up your menue, to have better dish for your guest rather than gv the extra money to the hotel for getting nothing. Wish you good luck

hi vin,

yep, the montage is part of my videography package. thank goodness, else it will never be done considering how slack i hv been.
lame.gif

i've seen those hard liquor with eggs games many times. i quite dislike those games leh, things always gets ugly when the couple gets drunk. tsk, tsk, tsk.

i prefer fun games that dun embarrass the couple. once we conspired with the emcee to ask the groom some questions on stage, e.g. what's the bride's shoe size, what's her ideal date, of all the things he did, what did she consider most romantic n important. if the groom cannot get the questions right, he can choose to 1) compose a love poem for her 2) sing a love song dedicated to her or 3) write "i luv u" with his bum.
happy.gif
the groom is not an expressive guy, so he made several attempts at composing lousy n non-expressive poems like "roses r red, violets r blue..." that got everyone laughing n cheering him on. after some trying, he decided to repeat the wedding vow n ended with "remember this vow n know that i mean every word of it". aiyoh, so touching.

Hi och,

Oh..both of u and julia andrew are getting married on the same day!!! How sweet..so u'll be using the grand ballrm while julia using hibicus???

Hi nat,

My wedding will be on the 28Dec03..how abt u??? Is it on the same day? So have u booked ur banquet? Grand ballrm or hibisbus or Sir stamford?

Hi vin,

I'm not sure if there is another wedding on the same day as I've not talked to any of the coordinators yet...Think will only talk to them during the wedding fair..is it too late???
