Delannie,

How can i forget ya....! Of course it's only right that i invite ya too! hee....

Thanks for yr compliments....

Actually i'm quite excited about the coming wedding....seems so soon.....sooner than i thought

HI Bluechin,
Do you mind if i bring my hubby along? Yours is at Grand ballroom right?

Hi gals,

I'm also GH bride too...My ballroom will be hibiscus....

I didn't get any good bargain when I signed up for the GH ..the perks are the standard one stated in the GH internet/GH wedding package...

I'm wonder did I miss out anything...it seems that some of u gals managed to get free barrel of 20 litres of beer??

I've just collected my invitation card from GH....Btw, is it too late to get additional free perks now???

Hi Coco,

i think u should discuss further with yr coordinator and see if he/she is willing to offer more perks for ya......*SMiLeS*

Hi Coco,
No harm asking for more
happy.gif
Try your luck lor
happy.gif

Hi Alexs,
You are so funny!
biggrin.gif

Hi Bluechin,
I feel excited for you!!!

I am in the midst of deciding on the hotels. I have shortlisted Hyatt, but I am concerned about the package - which I feel is not as competitive as some other 5-star hotels.

It seems like some of you have very good comments about they Hyatt. Could you share what is in your package and how much you paid for it?

thanks!

hi Coco,

me a GH bride too my BIG DAY was during June, just like u got a stardard package, although we got free 20l of barrel, but we paid for our food tasting (50%).

overall we are satify with all the deco and everythings on the actual day, and i have a very good feedback from our friends that the ballroom are very nice decorated.

cheval

hi gawain,

my wedding is in sept this year n i booked the std package last yr. i traded cards for food tasting, got free sashes for all chairs, day use rm n $45 nett per kg for cake in exchange for wedding favours (but we decided against ordering cakes). we r not serving beer (less cost), instead, we r serving wines (since there's no corkage charge, a big plus in hyatt's favour).

most gripes i hear against hyatt's package is with regards to beer (no free barrel) n food tasting. is that why u dun feel it's competitive too? what other 5-star hotels r u looking at?

Hi Och,

I think there is a hike in price in the package since you signed up and that is one thing to begin with.

I am not sure if you have heard about the hype that the Oriental created because of their Wedding Show package. Till the end of the month, they have extended their weekday rates to Fri and Sun and that is under $700 nett. Their Sat package is under $800 nett. Like some other hotels, they are giving free flow beer as well.

Other hotels charging what Hyatt is, is giving away canapes during cocktails and their menus are far better e.g. ablone vs sea cucumber, choice of duck vs just chicken, choice of soups, more creative dishes, and groupa instead of sea bass or snapper.

The themes provided by Hyatt are beautiful but they come at a cost.

All I am saying is that if I am to be paying more, then I would be expecting more. I know that Hyatt is a "name brand" but that does not mean it should not give value to consumers.

I guess some ppl can say that I "neow" but I am looking for a package that is value for money. However I must say that the service at Hyatt has been beyond expectations and I am extremely pleased with it.

You mentioned cake. Is this an actual wedding cake that is to be served to your guests or is it cake that your guests will be taking with them?

Och,

i think u really got a very good deal....Lucky u! *SMiLeS*

How many tables do you have for yr banquet?

How's yr preparation so far.....

Neko,

Thanks for sharing my excitement.....
happy.gif

hi gawain,

such a coincidence ... i was griping abt the same stuff as u r when i sourced for banquets.
lame.gif
u r not ngeow, i'm also like that. n since i dun think i'm ngeow....
biggrin.gif

by wedding cakes, i'm toking abt a real wedding cake, one that will be displayed, 5 tired etc. the cakes will be served to guests instead of dessert n chocolates. hyatt makes gorgeous wedding cakes, but i figured, most elderly wun appreciate the cakes so there's no point fussy over it.

oriental was never in my consideration list, so i've never tracked its prices. $700 nett for weekend is cheap. my prices may be outdated
lame.gif
but i think hyatt's prices belong to a range where it's slightly higher than 4 star deluxes n slightly lower than luxury hotels (e.g. ritz). thus there's a tendency to compare hyatt's packages with 4 star deluxes. in theory, the number of stars that a hotel has shouldn't matter v. much, what's impt is still the food, ambience etc. in practice however, higher class means that the hotel will charge a premium for their reputation, since this usually (not always
happy.gif
)translates to a slightly diff ambience, more attention to aesthetics, service n other unquantifiables.

hv u talked to the coordinators of various hotels? what is apples in one hotel may be called oranges in another. e.g. "themes" in some hotels may refer to nothing more than different colours for tableclothes/flowers, which hyatt offers free. in others, e.g. pan pac, hyatt, ritz, it translates to more. i've had friends who were promised "free flow beer" n found out later that there were essentially 2 barrels of beer. if u really want that, it adds $1400 total in cost to ur total package price in hyatt.

it all boils down to what u n ur hubby r comfortable with. our final decision was based on 1) i really liked hyatt's hibiscus n grand ballrm
lame.gif
2) the reviews were gd 3) it's centrally located n 4) the total cost (i.e. the cost of tables plus all other things i want). btw, i also bargained for special price for upgrading the fish, tho i'm not exercising that part of the bargain(again). if u go into a discussion with the hotel (any hotel, not necessarily hyatt) knowing exactly what u want, think u will hv a much better idea of the total cost of the wedding.
happy.gif

happy negotiating. i hope u will find a package that suits all ur needs.

good news gals!

my colleagues attended a GH wedding on sunday and gave very good comments on the food and service!
happy.gif

SLK,

it's nice to hear that.... one of my colleague also like GH's ambience and food plus service of course.....*SMiLeS*

hi bluechin,

i hv to meet a min of 42 tables, which i think shouldn't be a problem if my guest list keep expanding at this rate.
crazy.gif
preps r ok, sending out the invitations now, choosing the songs this weekend n guo da li is next sun.

had my food tasting yesterday. food tasting was v. pleasant!
happy.gif
the captain in charge n the staff were v. attentive n prompt. the captain, karina, even gave all of us a pack of potpurri n chocolates each so that we can choose. overall, the food was quite well-done, my only complaint is that it was a bit salty, but in-laws liked it.

the only thing i'm lacking now r photos for the montage. i hvn't picked any yet.
crazy.gif

has anyone tried the Hyatt's wedding cakes? Do they look very good? It's good news to hear that their set up is so nice!! Thanks!

Hi Och,

Thanks for the feedback! It's great. I still like the Grand Hyatt, but Oriental is going out of it's way to close the deal which Hyatt is not.

Oriental's new menus beats Grand Hyatt's hands down, so the family is more biased in that direction.

I know exactly what I am asking for so it'll be soon before I decide which hotel to choose. For your upgrade, did you have to pay more?

Girls,

i just got a call from GH..... My new coordinator's Andy Chia.... quite a nice chap.... seems like evrything could be discussed.

Heard from Him that Lavina has been assigned to GH Europe or something.....

And the GH renovation will definitely not affect the ballrooms as it's only in the guest rooms....

Och,

time really flies.... yr wedding will be soon and u have even given out yr cards....

my hubby's not very keen on food tasting so i might not be taking that up....

Btw, how much beer do u think we will use. I've about 45 tables or more.

hi bluechin,

thanks for the info.

from what i know, one barrel of beer is for 100 mugs.

och,

you must be very excited now.. do keep us updated ya?

hi gawain,

the fish upgrade works out to be $10-$15 nett per table, depending on the type of fish. black garoupa is definitely $10, cannot remember the rest.

i agree with u. a lot of hyatt's coordinators hv problems with chasing deals. i remembered being really put off by other coordinators' attitudes during negotiations. so far, anthony is the only coordinator i've met who i can honestly say has a lot of initiative. v. glad to hv him.

whatever choice u make, oriental or not, hv a gd time preparing for wedding ok?
happy.gif

hi bluechin,

i think the norm is abt 2-3 30l barrels. but it really depends on the drinking habits of ur guests. sometimes, the taste of beer can also affect the beer drinking rate (i've been to weddings where v. little beer was consumed bcos the beer was too "acidic"). i've known pple who ended up hving to pay for 6 barrels n others who couldn't even finish 1. andy will be a gd person to ask regarding alcohol matters. they r usually quite experienced.

btw... do take some time to discuss with andy n actual-day captain abt ur alcohol serving practices. e.g. 1) if the amt u ordered run out, do u want to open another barrel, order by glass or ask the guests to choose other kinds of drinks that r left? 2) do u want to serve beer b4 dinner? during cocktails? some pple dun drink wines but they like to carry a glass of wines around. beer gets flat pretty fast, n if the dinner dun start on time, the beer may get pretty bland.

HI ladies,

I noticed that some hotel waiter has this practise of clearing away one quarter left beer then give the guest another filled glass...this will waste a lot of beer...& $$ ...i saw it at Ritz during my cousin wedding.

I wonder GH practise that or not.

As for wine and hard liquor, i would advise that you maybe put 2 bottles with the captain then keep the rest, wait til is finish up then go and get it...but this you got to get a friend to do it for you.....this can prevent them from keeping the balance or "anyhow" pour away...
happy.gif

hi delannie,

what the waiters do really depends on what the couple communicates to the coordinator n captains. if we dun tell them what we expect, then wastage can be expected. it's all right to instruct the waiters to ask guests b4 fetching more beer or asking waiters to leave both glasses on the table n clearing only empty glasses.
happy.gif

i'm getting a friend to act as the banquet coordinator but i'm still leaving all the wines with the captains. i've ordered 6 cartons of wines, it's difficult to imagine where my friend can keep those 6 cartons while trying to liase with so many pple
crazy.gif
n there r a lot of guests who like to complain abt service stds. 2 bottles of wines only serves abt 12 glasses. it would be quite a mess if the captains cannot find the coordinator to get more wines, since she is bound to be running all over the place.

i will highly encourage discussing the alcohol policy with ur coordinators. i've talked to anthony a few times abt it n his experience in many matters really helps. there r so many things hubby n i never thot of, e.g. do we take initiative to offer wines as an option? etc, etc. on the actual day, we r meeting up with him n the captains to go through the wine policy again.

Hi All,

Just want to find out your opinion about the Camelia room in Grand Hyatt. I'm now torn between the Temasek room in Traders and Camelia room in Hyatt. Btw, I'm only having about 12 tables. Please advise... Thanks.

hi snowbelle,

i've only taken a brief look at the camelia rm. there wasn't a wedding setup in the camelia rm then, so i cannot comment on the setup. personal opinion is that it's not v. ideal if there is another wedding on the 3rd floor. hibiscus guests hv to pass by camelia on their way to hibiscus. n if there's another wedding in vanda/magnolia, ur reception will almost be next to the vanda/magnolia reception.

12 tables.... hv u considered beaufort?

hi snowbelle,

i've attended a friend's wedding at beaufort with only 12 tables.... not too sure abt this, but maybe u can check with beaufort if there is a smaller ballrm that can accomodate ur request?

hi gals

can check with you what color of the table cloth did you choose for the guest & VIP table? sandlewood, french vanilla or white? and what abt the table floral?

which particular dish that you think its nice in the menu? thanks alot

julian andrew

saw from other threads that you do shot glass as wedding favors? how much do you charge and any pictures?

hey jes,

for vip tables, i chose gold organza overlay. for guest table, i chose french vanilla. for table floral for guest tables, i chose cream roses tied with gold ribbon in gold pot.

dish-wise, their cold dish is quite nice. prawns r v. fresh. chicken with thai toppings is quite unique n refreshing. but the sharks fins isn't that fantastic.

och

for VIP table, beside gold organza overlay what other choice of colors do they hv? and you chose french vanilla cover sandlewood, what's your thots of sandlewood color table cloth?

as for the table floral, i suppose the one you chose is the stalks of roses stood up high in the centre of the pot with gold ribbon? cream roses as in champagne roses?
i saw the table floral with candle in the centre, looks quite nice.

hi jes,

my banquet decor was described in my may 13 posting. since i no longer remember what colours r available
lame.gif
, i'll quote a short excerpt fr that posting: "abt 9 different overlay colours: white, french vanilla (light creamy yellow), gold organza, silver organza, pink, red, teal (greenish), black. there may be more colours that i din pay attention to, with the blackout comming on right abt then. napkins come in more or less the same colours. seat covers r in white, but sashes r in gold, silver, black n white. we get to choose any colour combi for overlay, napkin, sashes. "

i actually dun recall sandlewood.... is that teal? cream roses as in off-white roses. since i'm using gold sashes n organza liberally, i figured the flowers should be more simple n elegant. i saw the candle design floral decor, but we din choose it.
happy.gif

oh yes.... for all the girls here, during my food tasting, hyatt arranged for all my chop sticks to be black. those provided a v. nice contrast with the french vanilla/gold decor i hv.
happy.gif

och

sandalwood is abit light brownish color....
yeah had my food tasting too and same they arrange the chopstick to be black...but most old folks still prefer it to be ivory colour...;p

so did you use black chopstick for your wedding banquet?

hey jes,

i din see the sandalwood colour.
lame.gif
my concern when choosing the colours was to keep the colours lite, so it was a choice between white n french vanilla. my wedding banquet will be in sept. i'm sticking with black chopsticks. parents actually thot that looked v. asian.
proud.gif

och

oh..so your wedding is just next mth.... congrats!
this coming mth will be quiet for banquet cos its lunar 7mth mth.

i will be using ivory chopsticks instead of black.
and champage rose with candles as floral centre piece. as for the table cloth color...yet to be confirmed when i meet up with the coordinator in sept.

congrats och! think u will be getting more n more excited n stressed..

btw, i finally saw the hibiscus room yesterday. yes it is indeed very pretty - that's the one in the magazine & the dbs cashline advert right? no wonder all of u find it so nice.

but think i will stick to my original contract - sir stamford ballroom as i find that the way to Hibiscus ballroom is abit long and my guests might hv some difficulty to locate it cos' there's another wedding on grand ballroom on that day.

ram

as adv by the coordinator, guests can take the lift to 3rd floor and turn right walk all the way to the end to reach Hibiscus Room, that route is shorter.

och

by the way. will you be choosing the songs for march in and throught out the dinner? or just use whatever songs provided by Hyatt? will there show you what songs they hv when you meet up with them to finalise the details?

hi jes, ram,

thanks. i'm v. excited. just had my guo da li yesterday.
proud.gif

hey jes, i'm choosing my own songs. i've already chosen the walk-in, video n 1st dish song. found some classical pieces i can play through cocktail too, but i still hv not found a cd that i can play throughout dinner. i will be asking my coordinator for some suggestions when i meet him next wk. will tell u more abt what they hv then? when's ur wedding, btw?

hi ram, hibiscus v. pretty rite?
happy.gif
hibiscus is easier to locate if guests take the lifts. u r so lucky, there's only 1 other wedding on ur wedding day. i was told there would be at least 2 other weddings (one on each floor) the day i'm holding mine.
