Four Seasons Hotel

Hi Tansy (and Compassrose, sorry forgot to acknowledge you in my last post, yep we meet again heh) and everyone else,

Yes hehe that's a good way to get free champagne from Conrad. And if I remember correctly it's quite good champagne too. And at retail prices of at least SGD 60+ per bottle... good deal. Poor waitress though.

I was once like that too; all wines tasted the same with me. It's like that for the first few times. Then after a while you start to notice the difference. The tannins and alcohol overwhelm your taste buds the first few times; after a while, your taste buds get used to it and you are able to taste the different nuances of the wine hiding behind the tannins, alcohol, and acidity. The Wolf Blass Gold label is quite a good wine probably selling for about SGD 40. Carrefour sells some quite decent wines for SGD 20 so it is quite possible that the difference is not so great as say... a lousy French Vin De Table. Wine does add another dimension to a meal once you are able to appreciate it. Try going for some wine appreciation classes if you want to find out more.

As a society matures, more and more people go for things like wine, dancing, etc. We don't have to go all out to be a wine speciailist, but it's probably good for us to at least find out a bit what's the big hoo-haa about wines.

Tansy, I presume you are in some third-world country. True if we compare ourselves to many third-world countries, our service standards are better. But why compare with the worst? To console ourselves? And there are many third-world countries with service far better than ours. As a first-world country, we should be able to do better. Sadly, we are first-world in efficieny, third-world in courtesy.

No one falls in love with efficiency because efficiency by itself is just cold and hard. Efficiency of course is not a bad thing, but if it is the only thing then we are soulless people.

Now with all the recent letters in Today about our kids growing up like little emperors and not being able to do even simple household chores for themselves, the future looks bleak.

Sorry think I am hijacking this thread. My friend who had his wedding at FS last year, despite his gripes which I have posted here, had a wonderful wedding experience at FS. I've attended other weddings at FS too and have generally had a positive experience. Kudos to the team at FS, and if any of them are reading this (I'm told that they do!), please bring up the matter of waiving corkage charges for all alcohol to your management.

Hi Tansy,

Sorry to bring it up again, forgot to mention this. I think generally guests at a wedding are too polite to say "sorry your wine was quite watery" or "it was too tannic" etc. They just won't say anything. I just think that by saying "they are going for the wedding and not wine-tasting" is almost like saying "they are going for the wedding and not food-tasting". None of us would even think of serving our guests sub-standard food.

Now, sure more people can discern good food from bad; but I don't think that just because most people cannot discern good wine from bad therefore means that we should serve them the bad. I think it doesn't really reflect well on us. And I think also that more and more Singaporeans are starting to be more discerning; so more people than we know may be able to tell the good wine from the bad. You'll never know what kind of people come to your wedding; e.g. your parents' friends, colleagues, colleagues spouses, etc.

Personally if I were totally ignorant about wine, what I would do is to get my wine-savvy friend to taste the wine for me before allowing the wine to be served to my guests.

Just my 2mls worth of Wolf Blass Gold Label.

Hi Beary,

Did FS printed out the place card for you as well? I thot of having that as well, not sure if FS is able to assist in printing and having them sort out. Guess we can have that since our's is a small affair. I did that for my ROM high tea reception (30pax) and the guest felt so welcome.
happy.gif

Hi compassrose,

Nope, I made the place card myself and got my helpers to help me place them on the tables according to my seating arrangement.

Hi all, wow i couldn't catch up with this thread. Am away for a biz trip in HK these few days and atlas i'm at somewhere civilised! Raymond, i'm not in any 3rd world c'try lar, i'm working in Shanghai...flamboyant city i mus say, minus the spitting n impolite manners fr the locals.

KPO u can say, i clicked on ur profile n u're a lecturer hah...no wonder every posting is such lengthy one. I'm not gonna hog up tis thread n rebut on my ignorance on wine. Cos I noe dearly that i'm no wine appreciator. I dun wanna read another big chunk on wine again here. Clearly u've made ur statement, couples still signed up willingly with FS knowing there is no free corkage... So it's really up to individual n their preference.

Allz...yea one main reason for FS, i oso took the cresent ballroom cos of my small guest list. Only 13 tables and it's really hard to find such nice ambience ballroom tat cater to tis size. Oriental is one but FS won me over at 1st sight haha! Eh i do not hav any pics of the ballroom to share cos i'm in HK now. But i've jus seen beary's webby, she has lotsa beautiful pics!

Beary, ur webby is simply great.

Oh by the way, Raymond u sound a bit defensive in ur posting. All tat i've said are my personal views n preference. I hope u're not offended in any way by my ignorance.

Hi tansy,

Thanx

Like you, I also fell in love with FS at 1st sight! eventhough it's quite small, Crescent has such a cosy but still luxurious ambience. Enjoy ur stay in HK!

Oh yah beary, ur webby's layout is abit similar to weddingannouncer yah? I'm using their webpages for my wedding webby actually. U created a whole new html for ur webby? Gotta pay for the web space?

Hi Tansy,

No problem.
happy.gif
The problem with e-forums is that emotions always sound more amplified than they really are.

Ok let's leave the FS customers in peace.
happy.gif

hi tansy,

nope, i didn't use weddingannouncer. Think i paid abt $150 for the web space n name..can't remember the exact price, it's been too long =P

hi beary, just saw ur webpage, v well done but i cannot hear the 2nd song ;)

may i know how much do we need to pay for the dessert buffet?

Hi schnauzie,

you can't hear the 2nd song? mmm...tats odd. i can hear it in my comp. oh well..maybe some technical glitch. hee...

which dessert buffet ru referring to?

oh.. that's not dessert buffet actually. hee..it's the chocolate fountain with several yummy condiments, which was served during cocktail. The price $600+++ per 100 pax.

tansy! i love those bears u gave away
did u buy them seperately?
how much does it cost per piece?
you look great!!!

Hi lys and ms_kris,

I did give bears as my wedding favours..is that what lys is referring to? if it is then i just answer her question here. if not then..hee..i'm wasting forum space. sorry...
Actually its a leather-bound memopad holder with a bear on top of it, wearing a lace wedding gown n veil (for female guests) or suit n hat (for male guests). I got it at about $8 each.

Hi compassrose,

I chose the leaf design, although I made some changes and additions to it so it won't look so plain...

ladies, my fren just attended a FS wedding last wkend and fedback to me tt the food is terrible..she rated it below average ;( she even say the coffee ribs' not nice. I have yet to go for food tasting but does the banquet food standard varies alot from food tasting standard?

Hi schnauzie,

The food at my wedding was good I think. The same standard as the food tasting. In fact we made some comments during the tasting like we wanted more item on one of the dish and we wanted certain ingredients to be eliminated in another dish, etc. the chef really followed through during the banquet and we were really satisfied with the food quality. I don't think you should worry too much. From what i've heard, FS has one of the best food compared to other hotels
happy.gif

Hi schnauzie,

Our experiences at FS are also variable; nothing spectacular, but nothing terrible. Perhaps what you can do is during the food tasting, be very particular about the food and insist that you want the exact same quality for the banquet. Hopefully they will then put in extra effort to please your guests.

Hi Beary,

Looks like the leafy invitation card is a poplular choice, personally i like the beige invitation card that is commonly used in western dinner better. Hope they will have new designs to choose from when it's my turn..

Hi Harp,

Mine is Lewis Low, he is quite okie. pretty prompt in his reply.. Honestly, all the wedding coordinators are about the same. They are all sticky in terms of additional perks.. haha..

Ya, i heard the food is very much average.. Anyone do without sharkfin? And any alternative suggestion besides fish maw soup?

My CO was Lewis too...he's really nice and prompt and most accomodating to our bz schedule.

Food wise, the comment i've received are all positive. And my ex colly even commented tat the sharkfin was the best tat she ever had.

If the food was lousy during the dinner, I think ur fren shld feedback to the couple, at least they could bring the matter up to FS. But again, all of us has diff taste bud n preference. So I may say good while you may not agree likewise.

Hi Tansy,

Hope all of us will have the same pleasant experience durng our AD. And how's marriage life? Any difference?
happy.gif

Btw, anyone top up for the western desert? Lewis mentioned that they will serve it during food tasting as an alternative desert for us to try. How bout yam paste? Anyone had it? And any comments if it's good?

Helo Compassrose, we meet again keke... Bet u mus b looking v much forward to ur AD. The western desert were fabulous, i'm a sucker for desert actually haha! But we din change for tat cos hb n parents love the honeydew sago (they've a nice name for tis). Din get to try the yam paste tho.

Marriage life, any diff? Not so much on being married, but more on new country, new environment, frens, n job. Lotsa adjusting still.

Hi compassrose,

yup, think the leaf design is the most popular. Like you, initially i wanted to use the western style card but realized that the space is quite small and i wanted to include pictures in my invitation. so went ahead with the leaf but made a lot of modifications to it. I can show you my invite if you want. Just pm me
happy.gif
think i still have the scanned copy of the invite.

I didn't top up for western dessert either coz parents find it too sweet n rich. the honeydew sago is very nice! different from those that other places normally serve during wedding dinner.

Hi Tansy,

Yup.. So looking forward to it and hope time will pass by faster. Why?? So i dun have to watch my diet anymore after AD.. hee... Due to the busy schedule of my hubby, guess i have to do all the necessary research, beside i am enjoying it.
happy.gif
It's fun sharing infor at the forum. It's a great experience working in a whole new country.. Have fun! Btw, yuor hubby is there too rite?

I will request for yam paste during food tasting, in the event it turn out yucky, will change it to honeydew sago or western desert since i know it's a safe choice.

Thanks so much beary. I have PM you.

Hi compassrose,

no prob
happy.gif
actually u can request for a portion of the western dessert to be served during food tasting too. that way u get to try both the chinese and western desserts.

Yes Beary, the honeydew sago was v nice rite? Not the conventional ones.

Compassrose, update us on the yam paste. Actually i've intentions to dine at Jiang nan chun one day, cos the food is really not bad lo.

Oh yah to answer to ur question, yes both me n hb working in SHA.

Hi tansy,

yaaaa...it's so yummy... craving for it now. hehe..can't find that type anywhere else..even my hubby, who hates honeydew sago usually, loves it! i'm trying 2figure out how to make it..any idea?

Oh ya Beary, that's wat Lewis told me as well.. Yup, let you gals know after my food tasting. Oh.. i am not a good cook myself.. if i come accross any desert receipe on honeydew sago, will pass on to u..

I didn't know that the food will be prepared by jiang nan chun, always have the impressive that only the jiang nan chun menu is prepared by them.

Yes compassrose, the banquet dishes are all prepared by Jiang Nan Chun's chef. U'll b having ur food tasting at the restaurant too.

Beary, i think they grine and blend the honeydew to semi-solid form. Not squashing it to juices tho.

Is buffet pricing cheaper or about the same as dinner?

Hi Iys,

Can check out if BKK - the weekend market (forgot the name) have similar wedding favors and it's cheaper to buy in bulk. Now with the competition btw budget airline, it's quite affordable to fly to BKK.

buffet pricing is the same as set dinner i think.

Elin, may I know which ballroom was the buffet you attended? Is it the small cresent ballroom? Wondering if there is sufficient space for set up of buffet line.

Hi Gals,

Have u gals thot bout how the increase of GST is going impact on us? sob sob.. When i called up FS to check, i seems to get the impressive that the pricing will be based on what is stated is the contract. So i safely assume it's 5%, however some of the gals has enlighten me that it's should not be.

When i check out my contract, it's stated there based on prevailing GST charges. hopefully, the imcrease will not take place so soon. Otherwise, it's a good few hundreds ang pow to the government.

Compassrose, it's prevailing GST, so there's a tendency tat it may increase by 2%. When's ur AD? i read tat they'll only announce the implementation next feb. (wat a good CNY pcs of news fr our dear govt huh)
