Engagement Ring


just bought both my solitaire and wedding bands from Clarity too!

Although i haf read some very good comments on this forum, i was still hesitating whether to go to Clarity coz all my friens got theirs from Goldheart, Lee Hwa... when i saw the sale on 1 mar, tot of goin down to take a look...

we took a very long time to choose n tis lady with specs (din get her name) was very patient w us... in the end, we need to rush off so made an appointment to come down on a weekday.
we went down 3 times in total before finally deciding... the 2nd and 3rd time we were attended to by Amanda... she was also very patient and although i was very indecisive she was still friendly... we were the last customers of the day (last appointment for wkdaes is 7pm i thk)... and we stayed till 8plus almost 9pm on both days... quite paiseh but Amanda still seems okie w it...
looking forward to collecting mi rings in 3 weeks time! =p

Yup, I agree Josi is cheaper cos with the same specs, clarity actually quoted me a higher price and that was the reason why I took Josi in the end.....

I spent less then 900 for this ring... haha... which is so much lesser than outside that I asked....

Josi doesnt have any weblink/ webpage at all.
As to your question, coz both of them are dealers. Pricing largely depends on where they get theor supply of stones from, time they bought it, how old the GIA certs are, the economy.. etc.
And of course, the profit margins they after. =)
 
the diamonds from josi are GIA certified...
at least those i chose lah.
and not too old also.
i think mine was certified early this year.

and i find simon from josi more flexible too.
(having been to both and talking to both)

M looking for wedding bands. If the dealers are able to match or even better then the 'House Names', able to customize and cheaper, it will very much worth considering. Especially when u can get better specs at a reasonable price. Else i might just go back to the place wher i bought my engagement ring - Love'n'Co.

Is appt-making required for both Josi & Clarity or walk-in? Thanks.

both require appointments.

but if you're only intending to make wedding bands...may not be so worth unless you've a custom design in mind or want diamonds.
i think the forte of these 2 shops are customization and diamonds w good specs at better prices.
so if you're thinking of a plain gold band, perhaps those branded (or non-branded, family run goldsmiths) ones may be worth checking out.
esp with the GSS coming along.
 
I agree.... reason that I went to them was that I wanted diamonds for my wedding band and really only wanted that design in my mind and nothing else... haha

after so many questions and advice on which finger to wear... my engagement ring is now settled on my 3rd left. When bf first proposed, he slipped the ring on my 4th right. But then i prefer on my 3rd left, so he changed it there.

is a good thing, the ring can fit onto my 4th right, 3rd left and even 4th left.

I just want to share my personal experiences I have had with Clarity and Josi Gems in the source for the ideal diamond for my engagement ring.
I've actually asked both Clarity (Amanda) and Josi (Simon) for quotations of particular specs and size of diamonds Im after. In fact, I've met up with both of them, and I personally find Josi's level of service much better and very personalised. In fact, Im rather impressed by his level of commitment and service rendered despite my high expectations of particular specs of the diamond. I can assure you that its not something that was easy to search or find.

Even bigger retail shops like Lee Hwa, Soo Kee, Goldheart, Poh Heng and Tianpo took some time to get back to me. Of course, the prices are generally higher for these retail brand shops having to factor the retail space rental, manpower and branding and marketing.
Clarity and Josi were cheaper, for all things equal. Between the 2, I would say Josi is cheaper though.

This search begun since 2 months or more back. And Im writing this to give my recommendations for Simon from Josi Gems for his high level of commitment, excellent service, his pro-activeness and intiative in sourcing for my "ideal" diamond over the last 2 months or more. His constant updates thru smses are superb!

Though this search has not end due to the difficulty in locating the specific and particular specs I'm after, he has never given up on the search! I personally feel that he deserves this credit.

Will definitely keep all posted once I've gotten my ideal diamond!

Though I did not get mine from both Josi or Clarity, but I dont think its a fair judgement to make especially when U have only visited one of them. I have visited both of them, but I personally prefer Josi's service over Clarity... and I think Simon from Josi is better.

I got mine from Larry though. =)

My post isn't about engagement rings but on wedding bands... I was searching for comments on Josi and Clarity cos me and fiance just visited the both of them (looking for customised wedding bands) and thought that I'll offer my thoughts...

Fiance and I were pretty certain about what we wanted and brought pictures to both Josi and Clarity and gave them the same "brief".

Felt that both the service at Josi and Clarity were really good and personalised. They were friendly peeps and we didn't feel rushed or pressurized into making decisions... =D and the pricing was about the same for both.

However, simply because of the fact that Clarity had a lot of rings on site for us to try (including quite a few with the designs we had in mind), so that we know how the eventual ring that we want will look like on our fingers, we're more inclined towards Clarity...

And in the end, I saw a design at Clarity that was really unique (which I haven't seen at any jewellery shop or in magazines) and it paired better with my fiance's band design that I kinda forgot about the original design I wanted... hahahaa...

The point I'm trying to make is not really to compare the 2 companies, rather it is this - you may not really know what you want until you try it on your finger... what you see in pictures may be something you really like, but may not be suitable for the shape/length of your finger etc...

Having said all that, we haven't made a decision yet and will visit one more jeweller before we decide.

Hope my experience at both Josi and Clarity helps brides and grooms in looking for what they want! =D
 
Hi all! Am going to decide on a 0.91 carat, vs2, E color, round cut, 18K white gold setting at approximately $8800 from Josi Gems. Is this price reasonable? Appreciate your input, thank you!

Like I mentioned in my other posting, the price of diamond does not only depends on the 4 Cs. But also the cut of diamond and the proportions of the diamond. Can help you do a quick analysis if you want.

i visited canary but not fairy's inc... i find canary pricing just slightly above clarity/josi... but a big difference...

in the end, i've placed my wedding bands order with clarity. =)

I've made an appt with josi gems already. Usually how long do you think we will stay there? Becoz I wanna make another appointment with Clarity (all orchard ma, go same day)

I already have a design (from one of the big brands) in mind, but we are also open to new designs.

hmmmm... think it really depends.

for us, we spent about 30 mins at josi, and around 1 hour at clarity. we also had design in mind when we went to both jewellers.

you might want to go to josi first cos their opening hours are quite limiting...

when you check out clarity, you can let amanda know u got recommended via sgbrides forum. =)
 
hmm ok we showed both josi and eclarity the same design, the difference in price for eclarity is about 200 more. And she said she don't "copy" but of coz that's what they all say.

eclarity has like 2 other couple there when we went so we had to wait and wait and wait for just one person (amanda) there...and since we aren't patient people, and parking is ticking away, we were a bit pissed. But other than clearing their backlog, they gave quite good service and suggestions from their 20 trays worth of samples.

Emilyn at josi was quite patient with us and even brought out some magazines for us to see. When we said we still wanna go with our design she was ok and gave us pointers to find out exactly how thick etc. No deposit is required and we don't even have to go down again. Just email them will do.

We will either use josi or yuen tung gems, but first i have to go to the big chain store to "spy" on the measurement first. hehe.

haven't heard of yuen tung gems... where are they and how was the consultation? =)

they are located in the tiongbahru ind est and i saw some posts says the shifus are all working on site. so they save office rental. I've only email them for a quote. will go down if need be.

hi xiaokeai, they are independent jewellers. They source for stones and have 'shifus' to do setting of the stones...means craft the material (gold platinum etc) into the design you want. They also have ready made casing if you have your own stone.
According to some posts in other forums, you can even sit there and see them set your stone on the spot if they have ready casing.

I just want to also say I have not decided to use them yet coz final quote not out yet.

I need some help here.
Recently, I have been hunting around for engagement ring and need some advice.
I have been to SK, Goldheart, Lee Hwa, Sookee.
At this point of time I'm interested in a 0.9 carat, G color, SI2 clarity, round cut and GIA certified diamond ring from Sookee. They are charging me $5508 after discount (I think it's a 50% discount).
Is it a good buy?

I have not been to eClarity and Josi yet. Should I go this 2 places to take a look?
 
G colour on a 0.9 carat may look too yellow....
since you can accept a SI2 clarity..... might as well get a F colour.

in fact $5508 is very cheap..... but i believe the cutting might not be good.....

becos u still have to look at alot of other factors like the triple excellcent..... the florocent....etcetc....

no norm for wedding bands fuse..some couples use $$ from joint account, some bride pays for groom and groom pays for bride's ring, some groom pays for both..

up to you and your htb totally! as for ours, we use $ from our joint account..
