Dessert Buffet, anyone?

My SO wanted a buffet lunch but I think many friends/relatives are expecting a sit-down set lunch. So we're thinking of doing a sit-down set lunch with a dessert buffet, that way we get the best of both worlds.

Anyone has any thoughts on this arrangement? Thanks.

I'm not really sure of the food quality though. The one i was quoted was for the wedding dinner.

However, if you are opting for the dessert buffet, they'll probably remove some dishes. Best to speak to them.

Lot of hotels now can do dessert buffets like Sheraton, Conrad, Ritz Carlton, Marriott, Panpac, Carlton etc.

Some quote by per table, some quote by the entire set. If I'm not wrong, I think my friend top up $1200 to have a dessert buffet at Sheraton for 30tables.
 
CareBearz, that is a great idea to do a semi buffet. Saves me the trouble of deciding which choice of desserts to drop out from the list. I quite like the durian dessert at Sheraton. Any idea if they include that for your friend's dessert buffet?
 
hi girls! Am doing a dessert buffet at The Sentosa Resort and Spa. Basically 7 courses (chinese) + dessert. We basically added $10 per pax. My cousin attended one such dinner and he said the interaction was very good! Cos people were happy to walk around and talk to the couple and fellow guests!:-)

I have done my food tasting; one key thing to note is that make sure that the food portion is not overwhelming! Otherwise, the guests will not be able to enjoy the dessert.:-)

I just got married at the Sheraton last month, and I had the dessert buffet. It was a wedding show perk, so I didn't pay anything extra for it. It was amazing! I got so much positive feedback about it. Friends told me that they were intending to leave my dinner early (cos their 1-year old son whom they brought along was fussing) but promptly turned around and sat down again when they saw the dessert buffet being set up. It gave my guests from different tables a chance to stand around and mingle. Quality and variety was good, and although the menu was preset I was able to substitute desserts that I preferred.

No regrets having one at all!

Sheraton gave my friend a list of items and you can make changes. But my friend didn't include durian items as Sheraton warned her that the smell may be over-whelming for non-durian lovers especially in the air-conditioned ballroom.
 
The two hotels i've been to recee for my banquet offer dessert buffet...Grand Copthorne Waterfront and Traders Hotel... but i find the price quite steep... its about an additional $20 per person...though you dun have to order the buffet for the exact number of guests you have..coz people won't be eating so much by dessert time... just wondering what is a good percentage to order...
 
Hey...Meritus Mandarin has dessert buffet too. Think it is around 20bucks too but it is almost a chocolate dessert buffet. I spoke to my coordinator about it.

I attended a wedding at Grand Hyatt. There was dessert buffet. It was fabulous (they had souffle station, ice cream station, cakes, pastries etc)....But I'm sure the price was substantial because there were a few live station for dessert.
 
Dessert buffet sounds like a fun idea!

Can anyone advise me where will this dessert buffet take place? In the ballroom? Or outside the ballroom at the reception area??
 
Depends on hotel ballroom size, and ur number of tables. Most will do it inside ballroom thou...

Not cheap, may eat into ur ang bao~
 
Hi Jensen, yup i've checked with my hotel~ they used to have dessert buffet but has been removed due to poor response~~ & usually they put it outside at the reception area~ then ended up alot of guests just went home~~cos after the 8 course chinese dinner everyone is just too full to have dessert~

Well.. maybe this does not work well with chinese sit down menu~ unless u are looking at buffet style~
 
A lot of people also looking into buffet luncheon or high tea reception. Aspialle looking into one also? Jenson: True, buffet should be able to 'make' some $.
 
Hi! My wedding took place two years ago at the Sentosa Beaufort and I still think that having a dessert buffet was one of the best decisions that we made for our wedding celebrations. If you are really interested, u can work with your coordinator to condense the menu. In the end, we end up with 7 courses, with strict portion control. And, be sure to inform the guests right at the beginning that they can expect a dessert buffet. Then, those interested diners can pace themselves.
 
HI PK, do they only allow you to buy dessert table package from them?
Can we ask other cake shop to make for us then bring into hotel???
